In this lesson, we take a good look at what we do in every day speaking to realize that it is possible to hit higher notes that might have been previously "off limits" before. Singing begins in the mind and can limit our vocal abilities in unnecessary ways. Let's learn how to not let our minds limit our range!
I have tried to explain this phenomena to many friends. Where a person's natural speaking voice does affect where they sing naturally and figuring out how speech can help you understand going higher or even lower. Delivery of the lyric itself and vowel shape is more important than people like to think. I'm no expert but it's good to hear these things I've noticed echoed so eloquently. Great series of videos 🤘
AWE SUM, if our voice (the sound) is a mixture of vocal chords vibrations, muscles and air flow, how can you say that we cannot train those ‘ingredients’ to expand vocal range? We can practice our vocal chords to vibrate faster, and with greater amplitude therefore, to increase vocal range.
Nelson Brilhante - That clown doesn’t sing. We are all born with potential range, not usable range. Just because a person can squeeze out a C5 doesn’t mean they can sing it. In an untrained state they may only be able to sing a C3.
i don't like this symbol🤘. its satanic stuff.. earrrggghhh
@@Dandontlie Or it's "I love you" in Sign language ;)
Stop
Any other phrase that doesn't make neighbors call the police?
haha... really anything will work... my kids inspired this one, cause that's what they say to each other in the phase they are in (many times a day)
"These pretzels are making me thirsty"
lmao!
Lmfao....I'm dying here
literally had to turn it down, got paranoid they might
Fun Fact: "I told you to stop" is actually a cover. It was my mom's hit single when my brother and I were kids. Nice Cover, Chris! 😂
We perform this song in our house as well
I used to practice this song on the daily
It's also Melania's favorite song and phrase.
I bet "hit" was literal
The hit follow up was "Would you like me to give you something to really cry about?" :D
Me : *Trying to sing*
Chris: I TOLD YOU TO STOP DOING THAT
ok ;;
I did as well I am wondering if the pitch was an F?
Johnny Sinns giving singing lessons after hearing so many high pitched voices :)
haha most guys should understand that comment
HAHAHAHA WTF
He's a freaking legend 😂
My actual thoughts.
Hahaa
I love how your falsetto sounds like Mickey Mouse
Dylan Duke hahaha that’s so true!
Totally
"I told you to STOP!" - Steve Carell
That's perfect lol
ruclips.net/video/4hlfCdNBlME/видео.html
It reminded me of him too lol
No I won't you stop it 😂😂😂😂
"Oh God, please NO! NO! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO"
I was doing the exercises and my wife said I told you to stop”
I said I’m glad you’re doing the exercises too lol
HAHAHA! ...YES!
Amazing tutorials bro!
Behold, the most vanilla Rage Against the Machine song ever.
Quite True!
Holobrine He’s totally killing it with his Zach de la Rocha impression
While I was trying to sleep. "I told you to stop doing that" keep on echoing to my mind. Help
haha
My girlfriend told me to stooooooooooop watching this video.
I'm starting to hear Michael Scott losing his mind about Toby coming back 😂
haha!!
I got an ad saying that RUclips videos won’t help you learn to sing and then they said to buy their VIDEO lessons! How hypocritical and ridiculous is that, and for the record I’ve learned a lot from your channel on how to fine tune my voice. This advert keeps coming up and it still pisses me off! 😂
This was the funniest singing video I have ever seen.
that {TOLD} is an A4.
you welcome.
You sound eerily like Mickey Mouse lmao
STAAHHHHHHHHHHP
Meanwhile, an entire SWAT team has assembled outside this guy's house
Haha
My neighbour was passing by my door, this I had the volume up too loud. He knocked to ask if everything was okay lol. I promised there was no DV going on, and I was alone, asked him the video.
HE suggests to you to consider a better phrase - he was upset and said he was tempted to call the police instead of knock.
I promised him I would pass it on.
I'll try the lesson you're giving, good job
If it was a "more neutral" phrase, I wouldn't be able to entertain myself with all the crazy stories people share about their practice experiences :)
Neighbours: i told YOU TO STOP!
me: i told YOU to STOP
Force vs flow. This is what allows me to hit high notes. You have to be relaxed and just let your voice naturally go there without tension. Tension/strain will mess you up and give you a bad pitch. Glide they're and ride the wave. 10 years of singing experience and it took me that long to discover it. I stumbled upon this by accident. This takes massive concentration and I recommend people practice sensational awareness in order to get this. I have to articulate though but that is also another thing that people are missing. A good mind-body connection.
Okay! I stop now... Don't be so aggressive... LoL Great lesson Chris
I love when you crack yourself up when you’re doing funny sounding exercises. These videos are so helpful. I’m not a vocalist by any means. I actually just really like to sing in my car and stuff and my girlfriend always tells me I should try to learn more. I love ‘trying’ to sing Layne Staley or Alice In Chains. I would love to see you do a video on whatever song of theirs you think is most interesting. Laynes voice is awesome I hope one day I can replicate that grit and range.
Repitition legitimizes. Even if its just a random yelling.
Lyrics:
I told you to stop
I told you
I told you
I told you to stop
I told you to stop doing that
I told you
I told you
I told you to STOOOOP!
I told you to STOOOOP!
I told you to stop
I told you
I told you to STOOOOOOOOP!
I told you to STOP!
I told you to stop
To stop
To STOP
I told you to stop
Do what I told ya
Do what I told ya
I told you to stop
I told you to stop
What are you doing? I told you to stop!
(Not going for any pitch)
I told you to stop
I told you to STOOOOOOOOP!
To stop!
I told you to stop!
Stoooop.
This has cracked me up really good. Well played.
You haven’t ceased to amaze me Chris! I also found that C5 note. Doesn’t sound fantastic or singable yet, but it’s quite amazing how we speak so high yet can’t sing it 😂 let’s see how this goes
Your lessons are so addictive, man. I already feel like I improved some aspects of my singing techniques just by watching your videos. You also seem to be extremely humble and an awesome dude. Keep ‘em coming!
After doing this exercise for about a minute I broke my record for the highest note I've ever sung, awesome stuff!
This is hilarious! 12:08 ... and that is on top of being a beneficial lesson! ;)
Why isn't this a Meme yet?
I was doing the exercise and he told me to stop doing that...
me too. what should we do then?
Stop ✋
Edit the "I told you to stop" session into the background of the "fuck you I won't do what you tell me" section of Killing In The Name and it will sound like an argument between the alternative middle school teacher and that one kid who's been there for six years
Should've yelled "I declare bankruptceeeeeeeeh"
HAHAHAHAHA! Michael Scott
My neighbor called the police because they thought I got raped.
Stop!✋
But when I try this my voice still flips into falsetto at the passagio (vocal break). Do u know how I can fix this? Even if I support lots
Do you have anything else I can say instead of “I told you to stop?”. My parents think I’m psychotic lmao
I told you to keep going?
You see for me, my natural speech is very chesty and low. I don't really hit falsetto notes like that naturally. In fact, my falsetto range is very small and it's something I've had to really work for bc for a long time I had no head voice or at least it was incredibly weak.
OMG you have the most funniest and even amazing tips to sing better. I'm so happy I found your channel. I've been surching for so many things to help me, like apps, online courses and all was making me feel like it was so much responsability and little boring details (I know they are necessary tho) that they were making me very anxious and I have this problem. I'm a very anxious person and I always end up no practicing things because I'm afraid it will take too long for me and I'll never be able to learn. I know, it's a lot of stuff going on in my mind, but your videos gave more confidence somehow. I don't feel so much under pressure. Yesterday I gave up singing a cover from a band I love, because the vocalist screams and I'm bad at screaming. Then I said to the guys from my band that I couldn't do it and I changed the song. Than I just watched you video about how to scream and add distortion to the voice and I was here following you, doing the exercises. I realized that If I had seen you video before I wouldn't have give up. It would have taken few days of practicing. Anyway, thank you so much! I'll do the cover for sure in the future. 🤘💙
This is great!
that was fucking great advice except for when people get around practising "I told u to stop doing that" in parks or local areas....might bring forth the hero type people to jump out of nowhere and try to save the day...SUBD, your a bit of a legend bro......12:56 oh yeah let it out
I can hit the notes in falsetto easy, just not in my head voice
I see a lot of strong points to this idea and im gonna try it.
Because basically our speaking viice is also our singing voice. Is there anything else? of course none but our own voice. So i agree to all of this. Thanks for sharing bro!
Right!! Soooo much available in our speaking voice if we let it inform our singing. Most people keep them separate which is very limiting.
Imagine WIll Ferrel high : I TOLD YOU TO STOP DOING THAT
This is working out great for me. Except now my roomates think im schizophrenic, because they know im by myself. Lol
I just pictured his wife having a confused breakdown trying to do chores while he was recording this, and I feel bad for laughing.
Great videos man!
Haha
Hahaha. Love this
Muahahahaha..... Damn....
Wait- you sound like Michael Scott when you yell that phrase 😂 love it
From 5:22 he kinda sounds like Stevie T.
To the T.
sthaaaappp
Omg I was thinking that in my head, glad I found this comment.
That’s so perfect
Will Farrell 😂
Other voice coaches: "well, you have to sing like this and hit that note and etc" Chris: "hey, man. Just do some stupid sounds and we'll find your voice." well, it works for me. Thanks Chris.
YES
I was doing this, but my wife told me to stop! Awesome lesson!
I havent laughed that hard in awhile , thanks for that
*I TOLD YOU TO STOOOOOOPP*
5:17
Your videos are gold thank u master Saitama
My neighbors are telling me to stop...
That’s probably fair :)
You sound like that that guy from the Office 😂
I love your video Gonna yell at the pigeons to stop shitting on my corridor.
Hi Chris, this was a great technique. Most of us ain’t aware of our speaking voice and when applying emotion and expression, will enable us to shift our voice to a higher register.
Thanks to this explanation of yours I managed to stop squeezing high notes out of my throat (literally). I can't thank enough for making managing own voice possible in such a simple way 😊
Glad it helped!
I thought this was clickbait, but it turned out to be fun and entertaining. I like how you stumbled upon this and conveyed the information. Nice. New sub
Nice! Welcome!
I really wish I discovered these videos 3 years ago when I was starting to distort my voice and expand my range.... (not that those things go hand in hand) instead of doing permanent damage to my vocal cords!
Great stuff! Excited to binge watch this channel!
The trick to singing Higher is to sing in a place where blind men see or a place with golden streets.
Creed..😁
Golden streets are in heaven
I can't thank you enough for giving out this quality of advice for free! 💗💗
I wouldn't have made it as far as i have today with my voice if it wasn't for your love of the craft and belief that the proliferation of it should be obtainable by anyone with passion enough to seek it out.
In my native language (Polish) I naturally speak SOOO much lower and I really am not able to say that phrase correctly. I think I gotta change my speech voice a little bit and try to experiment. But thank you very much for making me aware of this problem. Starting to practice yelling on some imaginary person, nieghbors, beware. :D
Just tried this. Worked well but i kinda had heaps of phlegm jump out at me lol. But i actually felt my throat relaxing rather than tightening.
It's funny, I just told myself to stop watching RUclips videos and get back to work! :D
Another great video man! I am going to say "I told you to stop doing that" in dying cat and see what that sounds like. Hope the neighbors enjoy 🤣
Hey Chris, Great work I’ve been following you… I’m trying to remember the video you made about jumping to a high note quickly as a way to trick your voice… please let me know what video if you get a chance to read my question thank you!
I can't...i can't stop the watching your videos man they're amazing! Thank you soooooo muchhh!!!
I love that you don't care about being ridiculous to make an excellent point VERY well. It seems like all of your videos take this great approach.
Anyone else went listening to Rage Against The Machine after this video? :D
Keep being you. You're good at it.
I would totally purchase the "I Told You To Stop" song. Just let me know when it is on iTunes
The whole nasal resonance thing exploded my mind
Wife was in the other room suuuuuuuuper confused.
5:00 he sounds like mickey mouse🤦🏽♂️
Nah Mickey is considerably higher by a 4th or a 5th
Haha that's fucking great. I have become very dysfunctional with my singing and I need tricks like this to get back in track. Love it.
that last song should become a meme
You are either a father or a school teacher. Because those two use this phrase a lot!
I'm having traumatic recollections of my childhood @___@
Don't do this in the present of big dogs. Lower the Voice. Just in case you want impress them.
Ha!
My god, U are helping so much man. Amazing breakdown.
When Chris startin to apply vocal fry during an argument you know you dun fucked up
I'm playing that for my kids. So I don't have to yell at them. Great lesson!
GREAT idea! Where do you think I got the phrase :) haha
5:18-5:27
This reminded me of James Hetfield singing "I am the table". So funny and so helpful.
**tries it**
Awesome, the neighbors are singing along!
U must have kids. Sooooo funnnyyyyyy. My husband does this song well when he's fed up with our son lolllllllll.
this makes me want to annoy people in order to make them to sing for me in high notes
haha... It'll most likely work! :)
Chris--I really want to thank you for this video. I've enjoyed singing for many years, but was always frustrated by not being able to hit higher notes and always having to transpose the key downwards. This video really unlocked something for me and now--even at the age of 49--I can finally sing several songs that I never could. I need at least half an hour to warm up my voice, but the progress has been wonderful. I even managed a passable rendition of Bridge Over Troubled Water while loading the dishwasher the other day. Thanks again!
Glad to hear!!
Your videos may as well changed my life. I’ve dabbled in recording my own music and I’ve always wanted to be able sing higher (baritone👋🏻). Your breakdown of compressed head voice totally unlocked a new range for me. Im hitting pitches way higher than I ever thought and making them sound punchy enough that you can’t tell it’s falsetto. So cool. Thank you.
the seinfeld vocal exercise
I can sing high notes, but they sound too weak ¿how could I thick the sound of high notes? (I´m a woman)
THE END SOUNDS LIKE A FUCKING PSYCHOSTICK SONG 😂😂😂😂😂
11:38 For some reason this brought to mind Michael Scott from the office yelling at Toby
How to sing higher:
4:52 become Mickey Mouse
i love your channel, it's been very informational on helping develop my voice. And more and more I'm noticing some of the stuff you say cracks me up when I think about it without ANY context, now my abs hurt but i still love your videos.
Man you guys are so good at singing and also great at explaining things 😊💪
When I speak, I can't even come close to the high pitches I get with my untrained singing without having cracks
Keep at it! It isn’t a quick thing for some !
When neighbors held a party, inviting rock band, and me trying to sleep getting annoyed.
If you are bass voice like me, there is almost impossible to hit something higher than f4.
This is the plot of a Recess episode where Mikey uses his singing voice to impersonate a grown man on the phone.
Dude you make learning more about singing hella fun
yay :)
Thanks. You're really onto something here (that's not mean to sound patronising :-) )
