@@batteries_sold_seperately of course it's unpopular when compared with pop music. Literally everything is less popular than pop music. That's why it's called pop music.
I had the same thought. Heavy metal is like Godsmack (except their two most recent albums), early 90s Metallica, Judas Priest, Disturbed, Black Veil Brides' third and fourth albums, Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, etc. Slipknot is (mostly) nu/alt-metal influenced by groove/death/thrash metal and sometimes grindcore.
I got a buddy from work into metal. He just turned 21 and mostly listened to like, most popular music, the Rap, Trip Hop, Indie, funky stuff (think like Tame etc.) and he wanted a metal list for playing airsoft. It's actually been proven in clinical studies that metalheads have BETTER mental health than the general population. As proof. Old metalhead here, never been depressed a day in my life and am perfectly happy.
I was born in 04. I started listening to Slipknot in 2010 about 2 months after the death of Paul Grey. It scared me at first due to the masks and the music. And my cousin was the only guy who loved their music. And about 5 years ago, I finally understood what they were saying. And I really started listening to them. I’m now 18 and planning to go to my first slipknot concert next year at download. And I’m so gutted that I never got be at download 2009 or see the remembrance of Paul grey. And I was crying my eyes out a year ago due to Joey. And even though this band is over 20 years old, they’ll never die. And never be forgotten. Slipknot has been my cure for so many problems in life and it still is. No matter if its screaming, depressing or both. And even though I’m a maggot and I’m pretty much the only one in my area and majority of my family, I’ll always be the Pariah. And I do not give a shit. RIP Paul Grey and Joey Jordison you crazy motherfuckers. Never forgotten. And thanks for all the music you made for kids and adults around the world. You made us outcasts become united.
I was born in 2010, recently I’ve been getting into metal. I’ve started with slipknot a few months ago! I’ve gotten into more heavy metal, metal, death metal bands that I love. I was born when you started listening to slipknot, lol.
I was born in 2007, currently 15, and my introduction to metal was System Of A Down’s “Chop Suey!” a couple years ago when I first saw a drum cover of it by Jacksepticeye. Ever since then, I’ve been getting more into metal and it’s become the main genre I listen to. I like different types of metal and frequently listen to bands like SOAD, avenged sevenfold, Metallica, and of course Slipknot. Recently, Slipknot has been growing on me even more and has slowly become my favorite band ever. I guess metal is just the one type of music that resonates with me the most for some reason.
I'm "Gen Z" and I've been listening to Slipknot for years. Hell, I listen to some of the most stomach-turning metal genres out there, like slamming brutal death metal
Chimaira - Pure Hatred ... ZAO - The Rising End ... Thank me later. :) (though chimaira has a much better catalog than zao, but zao does have one or two brilliant songs even if i think the rest is kinda garbo)
I am 14 and I love metal. slipknot is without a doubt one of the greatest bands ever. I like bands like five finger death punch, motionless in white, three days grace, paparoach, new years day, korn, nine inch nails, Lorna shore, from ashes to new, disturbed. And of course SLIPKNOT. I will never understand my generation.
Stuff like this makes me realize how important bands like BMTH are. Teenagers get hooked on Amo, move to TTS, start to get used to the screaming in PHSH, give it a year and they know the words to Diamonds Aren’t Forever. It does so much for the scene in general.
This is pretty much what happened to me with Avenged sevenfold, like i started with like their self-titled album and pretty much most things after that, got into Waking the fallen, started getting used to those types of screams in that and STST and now i have most of both albums in my playlist
Been lurking on the edge my whole life growing up listening to the god fathers of metal. But never threw myself into it. Until Covid, now I wanna say 75% of my music is some type of metal, the rest being a split between classic rock, modern rock, rap, and even a couple country songs. Going to my first metal concert this year, super stoked.
this is wild dude i go to a high school in california with like 2500 kids, and i can guarantee you that at least 80% of them know who slipknot is, even if they don't like them

@@elchomper.1063 it's the "media à la carte" effect that started with the internet and the capability to listen to anything you like at any time, you develop a walled garden that's populated with the stuff you already like and nothing else. unlike before where you had to passively listen to whatever was on the radio or tv. and you became exposed to things you normally wouldn't search for. Now you need to actively search for different things, it takes extra effort.

I'm DEFINITELY not 15, 🤔 and haven't been for a long time, but I absolutely agree that Metal is therapy for me. Any negative feelings just go away because of the music i listen to. I'm the most well adjusted chill person. My oldest son and I go see metal bands as often as we can, but at least once a year. We've been talking lately about how much we've been missing Slipknot, it's been about 7-8 years since we've seen them. Enjoy Slipknot and other metal bands, it gives me hope for the future 😄🤘🏻
My son is 12 and he's a budding metalhead.. thank God! He's actually seen Slipknot live with me. Among a few others. And my 7 year old is on her way as well! There's hope yet for the future generations!
Limp Bizkit has music may be one of the dumbest things I've ever heard, and then the kid saying they sounded like Fall Out Boy 🤢 I don't think there's any band or music worse than Fall Out Boy I hate that band more than anything they're horrible.
This is why you start them young. My little cousins who I lived with for years absolutely love metal cause their cool uncle blasted it and plays the drums and guitars.
That's easier said than done. When I was growing up there was no other music than Country music. My family were country purists, it wasn't until I was 13 or so, keep in mind I was 13 in the 90s, my cousins came to the house one day and played for me 3 Little Pigs by Green Jelly. I have been chasing heavier music ever since, having to hide my metal albums and the inserts. Because my dad would straight beat the shit of me for being into that "Devil Shit".
That's how it works. I grew up watching my father playing his acoustic guitar and listening to his vinyls, like maiden, metallica, Europe, scorpions, etc, so it was just natural. At 14 I also started how to play guitar so I can play my fave songs. I hope I can do the same when I have a kid.
Not really, people can change their tastes all the time. People just grow up and listen to different things. I got into metal by myself. I still listen to other genres outside of metal too as I am not close minded and stick to just one genre. Parents have been trying to make their children like them for generations and it hasn't worked. When they become teens, it's the time where they begin to question things. The main thing that has stuck is religion but many have been able to question that too. You believe in these things because mommy and daddy told you. Many people begin thinking for themselves. Getting someone into something requires being kind but if they try the music and still don't like it then leave them alone. As not everyone will be into it and that's fine. Many people I talk to aren't into it but we get along. I don't need everyone thinking the exact same as me.
As someone in gen Z. I’ve listened to metal since kindergarten. I still remember when my mom introduced me to Korn. I’ve never looked back because it’s all I’ve known

Better late than never. I feel like a lot of young are missing out on great music because they don’t wanna put in the time to actually hear what the lyrics are saying. Slipknot’s great, I still listen to their first two albums. But after that it became gateway metal. That isn’t to say they put in less effort, or that it isn’t good in terms of their technical ability or musicianship, but they made a conscious decision, the smart decision, to tone back their heaviness and appeal to a wider audience. They’re a sellout band. But, if you ask me, any band that has the opportunity to become rich and famous by selling out and DOESN’T is one that is financially irresponsible and missed out 😂

But to them it's the most brutal terrifying music they've ever heard. Rlly reminds us how metal is still pretty damn unpopular even though every metal head knows who slipknot are

Is not that unpopular lmao
@@batteries_sold_seperately of course it's unpopular when compared with pop music. Literally everything is less popular than pop music. That's why it's called pop music.
The guy that said heavy metal is too much should look up how heavy metal sounds, it’s the lightest metal sub genre it’s like hard rock
For me Judas Priest- Heavy metal is THE heavy metal song, so was confused with the kid's statement.
I know where he's coming from, he probably just got confused with the sub genre
I had the same thought. Heavy metal is like Godsmack (except their two most recent albums), early 90s Metallica, Judas Priest, Disturbed, Black Veil Brides' third and fourth albums, Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, etc.
Slipknot is (mostly) nu/alt-metal influenced by groove/death/thrash metal and sometimes grindcore.
He probably meant extreme metal.
Metal is just short for Heavy Metal, all Metal is Heavy Metal. The subgrene you mean is classic Metal.
I got a buddy from work into metal. He just turned 21 and mostly listened to like, most popular music, the Rap, Trip Hop, Indie, funky stuff (think like Tame etc.) and he wanted a metal list for playing airsoft.
A few weeks later it sinks in. I come into work for close and he opened the store for the day and all I hear is,

This is why you start them young. My little cousins who I lived with for years absolutely love metal cause their cool uncle blasted it and plays the drums and guitars.
Gen Z, didn't start young. Still turned out better than these shitheads.
My 4 and 10 year old kids are desensitized to the “heaviness” of Slipknot because they’re a house hold name to us.
