    How bad do you think it would be to try the drill and pin trick on the shaft and linkage? I like your calm down to business presentation. Have a hard time watching instructional videos where there's too much comedy or enthusiasm. 😄

      I appreciate your kind words! I don’t recommend the drill and pin trick. I believe it weakens both and all the pressure is now on that small pin. I’ve seen them fail. thanks again

    Man you have a gift for sure. I feel confident I can replace my lever. I've worked on Metric bikes for years I just got my first Harley.

    That leaking base gasket made a helluva mess around there didn't it? I couldn't abide that if it was my bike.

      It sure did! It will eventually need a new one.

    Is this bike getting its rebuild? Didn’t see another video. My 03 ultra has the loose shifter rod, I’ve put it back on 3 times now, the last time I put more effort into getting things as clean as possible and added a couple drops of red locktite, and it’s actually been holding for quite a while now, but, I have the parts and tools on order, all due by Friday so I’m going in.. I’ve noticed my back rim getting a lot dirtier lately, one or more of those seals is leaking a bit, not enough to make me low on any fluids yet, but got to fix that. Next I plan to do the improved cam plate and oil pump, and I may even jug it up to 96”. This is the first video I’ve seen of yours, but I did subscribe, have you done any in the cam plate yet? I’ve seen several but like to see several peoples takes before I jump in, never hurts.

    Great video! Had to do all this on my 2005 Road King a couple years ago. Looks like he already had a couple seals on the inner primary that needed replacing anyway (unless thats not oil leakage I see there). That shift shaft looks mangled.

    Jim’s Tool part number 5516 will save you a lot of grief, and you won’t have to remove the transmission.
    I enjoy watching your videos, and the way you explain the fine points! Ride Free, and I hope yer dad is healing up!

    The same guy that says cut the shaft to get it off, is the same guy that puts 12mm nut on the clutch cable. Just saying!

    Heat the arm up and bend the arm away From the crome piece .

    • @butlercustoms
      @butlercustoms  7 месяцев назад

      Not sure if that would be good. That arm is attached to the shifter shaft and that shaft has a gasket keeping the transmission oil inside. And that arm is pretty thick. So it would require a lot of heat.

    Thanks, I just watched 10 videos on removing the iner primary cover. You're the only one I see. Take the time to show every step. Bolt by bolt. Very helpful. I have a bad leak behind the primary. On the transmission end. So, I'm going all in ...

    That's mainly one of the reasons why I remove the heel shifter people tend to stomp on those things and it gives me extra space in the floorboard.. great video thank you

      I completely agree. I tell people to never use a heal shifter. It’s good to have one on there but only for the purpose of if the toe shifter slides down and gets stuck and won’t come back up while you’re riding. Thanks for watching and commenting!

    I got to do that to a 97' Ultra Classic I picked up this summer. I'm glad I found this video, it's not that bad, but damn I'm addressing it asap! And with how much of a pain it is to replace I'm going to bite the bullet and buy the Baker Truss style shift lever. Thanks for spending your time doing these videos!

    Great video, I haven’t torn a big twin trans apart yet but watching you I’m sure I’ll have no problems. That issue of that shaft going bad is because the owner never checked to see if that had come loose I guess and after a bit or continually tightening well it goes to hell. I just came across your channel and I can’t believe I sat for the whole video. You made it interesting and enjoyable to watch, kudos and I’ll be watching. Thank you!
