Hope you read this Phil. Your videos have inspired me to get back into riding. I did BMX into my teenage years and did some light mountain biking as an adult. My son showed some interest so the beginning of last year we both went all in. Needless to say, we're completely obsessed and love watching your videos. My son has autism (albeit quite mild) and some of his friends wanted to ride with us, but not all of their parents were able to afford bikes. That motivated me to start a non profit, where we take kids with disabilities, who wouldn't have had the opportunity, riding in and around Pennsylvania. So because of you there's about 8-10 little kids out here having the time of their lives and just having fun being kids. Thanks!!
SawySos ... I appreciate that, thank you. Right now where going through some legal work. I knew there'd be some stuff, but it's been a lot, as far as insurance, and making sure we're covered if a kid falls off a bike and hurts himself. Another local non-profit that runs a football league is helping us out so we'll be able to officially take donations once that's all taken care of. One thing you often don't think about when starting a business or a non-profit, is growing too fast. It could be more challenging than growing too slow, so just trying to make sure the infrastructure is on solid ground before we consider outside donations. I'll definitely reach back out though, and again, I appreciate that. Thanks!
Thx Phil. I’m so grateful there are dads trying and including kids. We built these and My kids , and kids all around the neighborhood are hitting it non stop. I’m all for all dads and moms building these and helping out kids. With no sports on tv and lots of parents working at home it’s wonderful to see kids on their bikes. Parents join in. We r amazed at how many kids and kids’ parents we’ve met. We find ourselves setting our lawn chairs and a permenant bench and all of the sudden our hiuse is a hot spot, and I’d consider ourselves to be non social. Now kids are begging our kids to play and neighbors wave to us all the time. We’ve let kids paint it. Since Then we now allow all kids to put stickers on the side of the ramp.
Hey Phil you probably won't see this. My entire life I have been kind of embarrassed to speak since I have a lisp and I often speak to fast and slur my words, seeing you improve on your voice overs has really made made me more confident when I myself am speaking. Thanks for making videos!
Phil, I enjoyed watching how to build your jumps. That is not why I am leaving a message. I enjoy watching your videos because you don't use foul language. Every other mountain bike video, they are drinking and using the 'f' bomb. Thanks for being a role model for our kids and KEEP making videos.
This has to be the friendliest MTB channel out there. You could use cut lengths of old tyre to help the rams grip the road and protect them from wear and damp
Thanks for noticing Joey It's something I've been working on. The voice over is the hardest part still. I have learned that if I can't see district peaks in the audio waves, it means I'm speaking too fast and slurring my words too much.
I really dig these project videos because it's stuff that parents can build with their kids or friends can bodge together in an afternoon and goof off with all summer!
Hiya PHIL! Next time you want to bend some thick ply wood over something, run a few (or lots if a big curve) 1/2 depth saw cuts a 1/4 inch apart on the back of the sheet across where you want it to bend. This gives the inside surface of the curve the room (grooves) to compress, closing the gaps and helping the ply to bend. :)
I built these ramps 2 years ago and started with them butted up together. Fast forward to today and I can hit double at the bike park with ease. Thanks for the the vid.
I was wondering to myself which RUclips "friends" you would choose...but you really impressed me with inviting the next generation! That decision, conscious or unconsciously won you huge kudos in my book. Way to expand MTB!
This is great Phil! What is so awesome about your ramp is that it is so versatile in every way possible.....it can be extended, it's curved edges, the flat top. It's great! What is even more great is that you are teaching youngsters who have a passion for mountain biking how to improve their skills, that's the best part about this video, buddy. Keep up the good work. I will definitely save this video and watch it over and over. Thanks! God Bless.
Love this video! We teach jumping clinics at Ninja using similarly sized plastic ramps. They are great for learning timing, where to compress, where to land.....all in a safe environment. Really like that you can start with the ramps close together and slowly move them further apart as riders gain confidence and master their timing. // PS. Wish I was riding as well as those kids when I was that age!
Built a very close replica of theirs today for my boys (9 & 11). It is the perfect size to get them started and looks like it will give the lots of options as they improve! Thanks Phil!
Ok the ramps got a lot cooler when you demonstrated all the ways you can learn on them. I will have to build some to teach my girlfriend how to bunnyhop over obstacles and logs and no pedal technical sections. Brilliant!!!
Thank you so much! I've been slowly getting back into bikes as my kids got into them and the bike parks are an hour+ away here! I'm going to make these with my kids this weekend! Can't wait! Thanks again Phil!
Totally using this idea for teaching my NICA team some more advanced riding. Awesome content Phil, glad to have someone like you to watch and learn from.
It's so much fun to watch the creative ways you used these for skills. And super inspiring to see you feature the younger shredders on this video. Thoroughly entertained the whole time. You tell a great story my friend.
That's exactly why that jig saw works so well.... it's old. #theydontmakethemlikethatanymore ;) This looks like tons of fun. As a skateboarder, i've built at least 20 or so ramps in my time. Awesome video Phil! I am sure you know this, but most transitions are drawn by placing an anchor point and using a string. The length of the string is how many feet the transition is in builders terms. Like you can have an 8.5 foot transition on a 4ft tall quarter pipe. Basically the longer the transition, the more mellow and less aggressive the ramp will be. It's rare to draw a transition in the shape of a dirt jump, but I do it from time to time to make odd feeling and unique ramps with some flavor. Glad to see you got the next generation out there shredding them!
Thanks for inspiring me to progress my skills, Phil. You’ve shown me that you don’t have to be a kid to learn new things. I’m in my 40’s and you have been a big part of my motivation to improve, slowly and always in my comfort zone. I’ve gone from nervous to launch my wheels off the ground to being able to handle significant drops and launching at speed, just since March. Keep up the great vids! And perhaps congrats on finishing school are in order?
I'm not a ramp builder and I'm sure there are a lot of good ones out there. Using 1/4" is good but usually I've seen applied one layer at a time. Of course a wider radius will make for smoother bends too. It's cool that the neighborhood kids are able to take their mountain bikes over some sweet jumps.

Haha loving the lack of patience and finding "alternative" methods of getting the plywood to bend. I have similar issues when trying to do things that take longer than half an hour! Great video again Phil!
Nice design on the ramps. A much easier way to get those shapes is using much thinner plywood. Most places have something closer to 1/8 of an inch. Instead of screwing them one at a time, use clamps to hold all the layers (6+) to shape with glue between the layers to form a laminate. After it sets take the clamps off and use a just a few screws to attach to the rails. It will be 10x stronger (and smoother) than what you have. As in you could literally drive your car over it.

Cool jump man, I love the kids. Only downside is that the landing needs to be about double the size. Its a good confidence boost for begineers knowing the landing is larger. It goes get to be heavy to pack around tho...
Id be lying if I said I wasnt thinking about building a set of these for myself. Something that might be a cool addition to skills you could teach with these would be different widths of board that could fit between for teaching skinnies.

Id be lying if I said I wasnt thinking about building a set of these for myself. Something that might be a cool addition to skills you could teach with these would be different widths of board that could fit between for teaching skinnies.
“Also gave it a cool battle ship look” ohh phill, you sure do
Love when things look like battle ships
i never done much woodwork my self, but this one made we want to start :)
great great video, obviously i don't know you, but you seem like such a nice person with the way you describe these kids.
great video keep it up.
Why do those six-year-old have bikes that cost more than my car
I was wondering the same thing. the best I have is a Trek X-caliber 8.
Spicy fireball same here bro
Mommy and daddy
They can wheelie better than me too :'(
I'm poor and not even as good as some damn 12 year olds
@@maximusgladi8or Trek X-caliber 8 is a fine bike! I was just at a mtb festival in Denmark, almost 600 showed up, and over the weekend there was 3 separate events in the same city area ( Silkeborg ) more then 1500 riders showed up all in all! I have seen biked there fom the cheapest of the cheap, and the most expensive things ever.... I attended a few of the rides, and I did just fine on my Roscoe 8 2019 edition.
Phil drives an Element?
Respect.
Cool ramp. Those kids were awesome 🤙
Skillz ! Everybody missed your videos, Hope all is well. Enjoy the rest of the vacation ! and then.....( Lets play bikes some MO ) kidd !! |^ :
Excellent video Phil!
These are really nice and versatile
Me and my roommate built a ramp out of the spare wood after a workshop project. Didn't work off any plans and the jump is super boring. Your jump looks amazing, definitely following this design in the future.
Aww that was cool, and I have to admit, if I had a set they would probably make me a better rider.
I dig the new funky intro
Awesome stuff Phil!
That was a sweet jigsaw, with the metal plate in the back no less!
Ok first off your new intro is dope man and also have those kids in your vids more often they are badass
I'm jealous of these kids! They have a really good group of friends that ride together all the time. When I grew up I was always a lone ranger. I'm stoked for them!
How heavy are they? I made Seth’s ramp and I can barely lift it
Drew Herron Seth’s second ramp was heaps lighter ( I made both from his plans )
Yeah Seth's ramp still isn't that light
Seth has a Napoleon ramp complex! We (Jake, my son and I) love that guy!
Use a hardwood like oak or cedar
It's a bit lighter
Mini BMX and friendly ramps would be a fun combo!
Nice work Phil! I predict plywood sales going through the roof.
