G'day Folks and welcome to my How to Build a Sick Kicker Ramp Video! The video is a Step by Step Guide to make the process as simple as possible for you. Hope you enjoy it and make sure you get out in the shed with the kids and make one.....You won't regret it! Cheers 👍😁🇦🇺
I respect all these videos of people who spent a lot of time building ramps as a kid. We just took some ply wood and cinder block and called it a day. Not knowing if (when) the board was going to snap was a rush
A lot of good stuff in this video, even if I don't need a ramp...like how to use pvc to cut an arc. Always fun to watch. Now you get to watch your 10 yr. old and his friends enjoy having a ramp you wished you had back then. You are lucky you fell on a grassy surface...fell off a skateboard when I was much younger (tile floor) and screwed my shoulder good! Some time soon you can show us your boy using the ramp (when the yard is not soggy).
I had no plan to make this wiggy wiggy, or what ever he called it, but it came out so nice, I might have to! Also, this guy is Australia’s version of Mr. Rodgers...how could anyone not love him! Great video, as usual!
The flexxy plastic pipe(conduit) is the best method for creating the curve in the kicker/launch ramp! If you have seen the other Australian fella with the long hair and moustache they did a similar kicker but it required a 10.5 foot radius to mark a mellow curve and also not making steep quarter pipe instead. Thank you good sir! Been making big and small ramps and they’re lookin great!!
Thanks, awesome tuto! I was looking at those expensive ramps, wondering if I should get one or not. After watching this video, I made one and still have enough wood to create a second one... 50€! Perfect!
Great video Shane. Loved all the tips. Watched with my 8 yr old son, and I'm sure he is going to want me to build this soon lol. Keep up the great work. "GREAT TIP KNACKERS !!!" 👍👍🇬🇧
Oh mate, my two favourite things in life, woodworking and mountain biking. I'm 40, and I'm still making ramps, and jumping them. It never gets old🚴♂️🤘🤘. Love it. Another amazing video mate, thank you. 😀👍. Tom, kilkenny, Ireland
@@diyforknuckleheads ah cool, let's keep it up so 😁😁. Wow, time has been good to you so, you don't look your age, what's your secret 😄😄. Have a good one mate. Thanks again . Tom
Thank you so much for the tutorial, a little tip from a skater here , you can put a piece of sheet metal on the tip to ride into the kicker nicely and it Dosent damage the wood
Freaking awesome mate. So remember using bricks, old tires or whatever we could find to make ramps. Too bad RUclips wasn't around 30 years ago, I am jealous of kids today
Good one knackers! I always remember building a huge (flimsy) jump with my mate when we were 10 year olds. I ended up face first into a brick pillar and woke up getting X-rayed with a busted jaw. I've never been too flash at risk assessment!!!
I went arse up on the kids scooter not too long ago. Wasn't even showing off, coming a bit down hill, it had been raining that morning and the back just went "Nuh had enough of this" and went out from under me 🤣 Shoulder still hurts too Great video mate.
What a awesome dad you are! I'm sure your son is very happy and proud of his father! 👍👍👍 After watching your great video... I noticed you showed your backyard and the cement block retainer wall... Any chance you could show us how you built it? Thanks again for the sweet videos!
Cheers mate 👍....Yeah the ramp gets a workout....he's actually using it as l write this 😁 The block wall is very easy to assemble as all the blocks just slot into the next one. The only tricky bit is getting the first course level. Unfortunately l didn't make a video building it 😢 Have a great weekend 👍🇦🇺🎄😁
Thanks for the great vid. I just "inherited" a bunch of power tools from a friend, and your vid is very helpful for me figuring out what to do with the random sheets of ply I have lying around. (Mine'll primarily be for skateboards tho.) Any comment on grain direction decisions, whether for sides or surface? (I'm thinkin I'll make the grains on my side pieces horizontal. For the top surface, I know it bends easier with grains horizontal.)
Glad you liked it mate! In regard to your question, what you said is correct regarding the top which is the most important. As far as the sides go, mine was vertical which l think looks pretty but horizontal would also be ok. Good luck with it 👍🇦🇺😁
I just wanted to comment and thank you for posting this video! I especially appreciate the inclusion of imperial units of measure! I watched a lot of videos last night on building BMX kicker ramps and liked this one the best. I modified your design by making it wider and taller because I will be using mine for jumping RC cars. Built it today and I am super pleased with the results! Just wanted you to know how good it worked for me!
@@diyforknuckleheads I'm hoping to test it out this Friday with one of mine. I bought my girlfriend's daughter one for her birthday coming up on the 13th and that lit a fire under me to build a new ramp since I wasn't happy with the ones I made before.I'm thinking it will work pretty slick. I've probably got enough material to do another one without buying anything else and based on how it goes I will either make one taller, shorter, or about the same with a steeper curve to it.
Hi mate. Awesome video. Thankyou. Can you help with the link for material list/sizes you mentioned at the start. for an old tech limited chippy dad. Clicked every button I can see but no luck. No backing g out now my you g blokes seen it.👍

I just want to say thank you I followed your tutorial on how to make a kicker ramp and I succeeded me and my son 4 years old wrote it and we liked it he wrote it with his scooter and I rode it with my skateboard hit me back regular message I'll send you videos thanks again
How do you keep the piece of plywood which goes on top of the ramp (the part that you actually ride on) from breaking? I got the 1/2” plywood and when I start pushing it down to go with the slope, it starts cracking and I’m afraid it’ll snap. TIA.
As I’m comparing the slope of the ramp in the video, I think I must have made mine too gradual in the beginning. When I lay the plywood on top of the ramp without it being screwed in, I have about a 2 - 2.5” clearance. I think I’ll have to cut it in half and do a little grinding.
I think you need to put a layer of anti- skid covering on the ramp surface to prevent the wheel rubber from losing traction. I would have made the side cutouts smaller.
Glad you liked it Alan.....it's an awesome little ramp....my kids love it!! In regard to the paper, just use label paper......the brand isn't really important. Buy the label paper, it comes in A4 size. Peel all the labels off which will leave a shiny surface which is what you want. The shiny surface of the paper prevents the ink from absorbing into the paper. Make sure you print in reverse orientation and keep your fingers away from the ink on the shiny paper as the ink is just sitting there on the surface. Good luck 👍😁🇦🇺
Thanks for your reply. I love the look of the transfers. I've used stencils in the past, but the colour looks WAY nicer the way you did it. Best of luck, Alan 🇮🇪

What is it that you use for the logos? Are they transparent stickers or is it some sort of ink transfer? It looks like the latter but I can't find anything that appears to do that. Any chance you could either post a link to the product used or give us the product name/number from the packet? I've watched the other video about this but it also doesn't make it clear what the product used is. Thanks.
G'day Phil....It's nothing fancy, all l use is label paper that you buy from your local stationary store......you know, the A4 sheet of paper that is covered in labels that you peel off and stick to things like envelopes.....peel all those labels off and throw them in the bin. Once the labels have been removed you are left with a shiny surface and that is what we want to print on. The method also only works with inkjet printers. Once you have downloaded an image from google, make sure you reverse it which you can do in your printers settings and away you go....Oh yeah, make sure you place the shiny side of the parer down in the printer and once the image has been printed.....don't touch it as it will smudge.....hope that makes sense ....l actually made a video on the process a few years back...Here's the Link to Image Transfer Video. The instruction starts around the 5.40 mark in the video. Good Luck!! ruclips.net/video/-A-Un_X21lU/видео.html......Good luck 👍😁🇦🇺
Ross that is a countersinking drill bit. When the yellow bit stops spinning you've reached the correct countersinking depth for your screw head to finish basically flush with the top of the wood.....hope that makes sense 👍 Thanks for watching 👍😁🇦🇺
I wonder if your stud finder would work better than the one I bought here in Texas last Fall. I've taken it to 2 different bars and can't seem to find a stud anywhere. :-)

I nearly laughed myself into a heart attack when you came off the bike. I'm going to have to build a smaller version for my grandson. Came out a treat, mate.
Hey Shane. Sorry it took me a while to watch the video. Been busy. But, just wanted to say, the kicker looks great. Why's it called a kicker? Nevermind...I don't need to know. But I would like to know how you managed to measure a fly's fart? lol Also, I liked the dog joke!!!! 😄 👌❤ Nevermind again. I figured out how you measured the fly's fart. Must've used a fartometer!
Never seen this way to draw a transition radius. I will give it a try, but its pretty inaccurate, you reallydont know what your radius is. Nice video and ramp too. Thanks
Ramp was a masterpiece mate. Your Boys will love flying off that. My only question is... Why are you working in Cmtrs?? Only Ladies measure that way. 😂🍻🦘
I had 3 Sons who were always building ramps or mounds to thrash theirs bikes on. Once one of them didn’t work out his landing area & cut all his fingers when he crashed down on top of corrugated iron fence. I was a little agitated about this near call, & he replied...Dad if I hadn’t put my hands down, it would have been my neck, for the chop. I was then very happy he had saved himself & had only cut his fingers. 😀🍻🦘
Not maybe not mate..definitely not not..a no go area to be jumping off boards in this young age of ours... Wouldn't want to come across a face to ground interface.

Hey Shane. Sorry it took me a while to watch the video. Been busy. But, just wanted to say, the kicker looks great. Why's it called a kicker? Nevermind...I don't need to know. But I would like to know how you managed to measure a fly's fart? lol Also, I liked the dog joke!!!! 😄 👌❤
Nevermind again. I figured out how you measured the fly's fart. Must've used a fartometer!
Hahahahahaha...l like it Sandi!/.....l'll have to use that one in the future 👍😁 Thanks for watching 😁

Now to line up the flaming trash cans to have something to jump over.

I only have hand tools
I had 3 Sons who were always building ramps or mounds to thrash theirs bikes on. Once one of them didn’t work out his landing area & cut all his fingers when he crashed down on top of corrugated iron fence. I was a little agitated about this near call, & he replied...Dad if I hadn’t put my hands down, it would have been my neck, for the chop. I was then very happy he had saved himself & had only cut his fingers. 😀🍻🦘
Hahahahaha...close call mate 😬 👍👍
Must have takenyou hours to hose the backyard that much just to get out of showing us your skills on the ramp ;-)
