Yea exactly, GMBN always say stuff like you have to learn a bunny hop and you have to use that in a jump, they say always the same, pinkbike is more detailled in there video’s👌

@@nickster0290 Yes, and they often say you should "use your hips" somehow to get more height, etc, but that doesn't make any sense without explaining what to do with the hips and why. Well, in comes Ben and lays it out, makes almost every aspect of it completely clear. What a boss.

this is awesome. as a pretty capable rider, I enjoy teaching my friends how to ride "better" but it's always really hard because I don't know exactly what's happening when things like getting bucked or dead sailoring occurs. having the physics behind each move really helps me understand why it all happens

Popping riding the back wheel- lean back made so much sense
I’ve been riding dirt jumps and pump tracks indoors in Toronto and figuring out how to get lift instead of absorbing is hard and following some other RUclips’s vid that say stand up and seem to tell you to pull up the bars just rotates you into a nose wheelie on a transition which is cool but not good when not confident!
Ben explains the physics and what is going on with the bike and your body input!
Thanks Ben! He explains things in a way someone learning can understand easily!

As someone who's been trying to learn to jump this entire year, your vid helped me out the most. The ONE thing I kept getting wrong was where I should be on the bike. Every video I've watched tells me what I should be doing...compress into the face, unweight the front wheel at the lip...blah blah blah... But NEVER did they mention about where your weight should be to prevent the bike from launching you forward! Bravo, my dude.

I didn't like Cathro when I first came across his videos but I've got to say this instructional series is awesome and now I look forward to the content he puts out. This is the first video I've seen - and I've seen a lot - that made me understand why and how I'm screwing up my jumps and what to do to correct it. He explains it all in a way that translates to the things I already do on the bike in other scenarios. I've probably seen all parts of these techniques explained by other people but never got the entire picture. I hope I'm going to remember this stuff when the snow melts because I can tell it's going to help me improve faster. I'm really grateful to all of you guys for making this series.

  • @abclimbing
    @abclimbing 2 года назад +1

Seriously have watched this video so many times. Here are my notes:
    - Go straight, pedals level, no turning on approach.
    - Knees above toes. Bend elbows and knees on approach. If you want to pop more, dip down more on approach.
    - Starting with the transition, not too early, press into face with arms and legs smoothly and evenly up the transition.
    - Rotate back, extend arms fully back in line with your fork. Head behind stem. Unweight the front wheel at the end of the lip. Allow your body to rotate backwards with the takeoff, do NOT lean forward. Drive legs into the remainder of the lip, making sure that your center mass is above rear tire and not too far forward.
    - For flat jumps, you may have to initiate a bunny hop **pull harder** with your arms to get your body in the correct position. For steep face jumps, this will feel more forward. You basically want your weight vertically above your rear tire when you pop.
    - Pop/straighten legs while pulling back on the bars **key**. Press the back wheel all the way up the lip, keeping heels down.
    - If you nose dive, you did not shift your weight far enough back prior to popping.
    - Relax. Let the bike level up beneath you.

BEST HOW TO VIDEO/TUTORIAL EVER!!!!! SERIOUSLY, plenty of slow mo, explained well. I’ve been riding a long time. I’ve watched literally every video out there. I’ve got no problem clearing jumps (I raced dh so it’s always been speed , speed , speed ). Now I want to get some pop and style. After watching this a few times and practicing for a couple of hrs really focusing on bits of this at a time. Then the next bit. Then putting it all together I was clearing larger tables. Where before I was having to pin it. Now I go “trail speed” and it’s so much easier and feels better. After a few days it became natural and I wasn’t thinking about it.
CHEERS MR CATHRO. Not only did you help a regular guy out. But I’m getting laid ALOT more.

This video series is a masterpiece - I'd watch the work of Cathro and the team on pretty much any topic. Also this got me really excited to head down to try some jumps at Cathkin Braes, so thank you again :)

2022, the year of the jump! I turned 60 last friday and I am determined to jump this year. I have ridden since I was 6, but never got into jumps and stunts. Videos like this will be a great help. I think a lot of it is just start small and keep jumping until it clicks. Self video and replay should help.
Might start a channel....'200 days of learning to jump' or something.
I also assume I will crash and burn a few times, but that is no big deal, been there done that. - Cheers
