I flew aeroflot during the days of the CCCP. I was in Russia with my dad who was assigned to the United States Embassy in Moscow. It was right before The Cuban Missile Crisis. Turboprop aircraft. Between those and the DC3, DC7 and Consellation aircraft I even flew on a BOAC Comet a JET! STILL have the droning sound in my ears and I am almost 70 years old. Mom and dad were both military doctors who very often were assigned to the Embassies around the world. As a MILITARY BRAT I traveled with my parents. In 1958 I flew to India with my mom who was stationed at the Embassy in India. She put me in a Monastery up in the Himalayan Mountains and the Monks gave me my first Tibetan Mastiff puppy to keep me company since they didn't talk back then. But I still love those older aircrafts with their noisy propellers. I bought a Dehavilland Otter DHC 3 with floats since I inherited my parents ranch in Alaska and can only access it via float plane. Buffalo Air has a few DC 3s as cargo planes Josh should try hitching a ride on one of those flights.
Last July I flew Aeroflot from Lisbon to Moscow (Boeing 737-800) from Saint Petersburg to Moscow (Airbus A320 winglets) and from Moscow to Lisbon in an B737-800 again. Very satisfying, good service (not slow), kind flight attendants, in their retro 50's uniforms. One thing that is becoming rare...they served a light meal in the one hour flight between St. Petersburg and Moscow. So, it was batter than expected. I'll fly aeroflot again! So, when will you fly TAP Air Portugal? We have several Airbus A330-900 neo. TAP, the first air company to fly this model! You will be very welcome in Portugal. See you!

I flew Aeroflot in March JFK to SVU and on to TLV on B777. Service was remarkably good (better than expected). Pros: low cost (was able to upgrade from Comfort Class to Business Class and still pay only 1/2 of Delta's fare); friendly, responsive cabin service; decent food quality & quantity (two meals and three snacks); expedited security & boarding processes. Cons: cabin luggage was weighed to the gram , entertainment options were less than ideal, on-board Internet was slow; cabin was heated to sauna-level heat. Would I fly them again? Absolutely! (especially on long-haul flights).
Good review. It's not an airline I've ever thought to fly before, but will keep it in mind. Moscow is my favourite city in the world, so hope I can get back there one day. Keep up the great work!
Well, I was impressed by Aeroflot both on their triple seven and their A330. Honesty, their Airbus is a bit run-down, but still good. On which airline do you get pancakes and shrimps for breakfast on economy class? People spit on them that they are rude. I did not meet any rude flight attendants on Aeroflot. Their pilots are coming from the Soviet Air Force. And they know what to do and how to do.
Hi Josh, thanks for the review! I frequently fly with Aeroflot and I would generally agree with your impressions - the airport is not the nicest transfer point, being too small and crowded. A330s are pretty used being the most aged planes in the fleet, it is much better with 777 and planes on short-haul flights. Try it, the experience at A320s is pretty nice - they are all fresh, clean and cosy. However I am really disappointed with the comments I've read, people are SO stereotypical and narrow-minded. It sounds funny for me when I hear people complaining about Aeroflot being unsafe. Guys, the youngest fleet among big airlines, no crashes for a long time, very qualified pilots and reliable security service at the airports. Keep in mind that Russians majorly fly with Aeroflot even if they have an option with foreign airlines on flights to Europe, although Aeroflot is more expensive usually. However judging by the comments the people would just say we are stupid :) So hope you try Aeroflot again and you will like it's short-haul service. Thanks!
@rana pipien I feel really sorry for those people, who believe that Putin's state and Russia as a nation are the same things. Aeroflot is not a military company to be hated due to political reasons, it is a huge modern and very safe civic airline. And my concern was not about one's attitude towards Russia - I was surprised people do not simply check facts and read about the newest fleet and statistics before calling it a nightmare in terms of safety. The airline and it's safety were discussed, but not international politics I think it is really not wise of you to claim that 'people do not like Russia'. Millions of people all over the world do not like the current American president, however, does it make them hate the country? Probably not :) So please, have some respect to Russians, distinguish between the regime which took over the country and the nation.
Aeroflot is doing a great job to improve. Fly them a lot on the London - Moscow route and not had a bad experience save an unruly pax. Best thing is they got rid of the majority of the surely babushkas - the younger generation are trying harder and if you get one of them to crack a smile, it lights up the entire cabin.
I flew with them on January of this year, Beijing to Spain with a short layover in Moscow. I gotta say I was impressed, since the cost was very low, I expected food and service to be low quality. Flight was full of Mainland Chinese, so it was loud and uncomfortable, but for reasons out of airline's control. I think the crew is a bit cold, but it can be a cultural thing, Latin American airlines tend to have nicer crews, but Hispanics do like to be babied, and are much more sensitive. I would definitely fly with them again.
It’s a shoehorn! My husband and I fly with Aeroflot often and from SIA to SVO often. We live in Melbourne. He is an MD and lectures and teaches in Moscow. I enjoy the smallBussiness lounge at Sheremetyevo. Some one always invites us to share space. One hour to begin service, like hot towel? Maybe flight attendants were dealing with difficult passenger. Hopefully unlike you. Aeroflot is great airline, great service and food.
I remember flying Aeroflop in 1978, Bangkok - Moscow - London, in an IL 62, with a three day layover in Moscow. Most bizarre flying experience of my life! I remember, even though I was only 14 at the time, my father and I were given an endless supply of little bottles of vodka and caviar by the most rude, offensive and arrogant stewardesses I've ever encountered! The cabin was kept at temperatures more suited to Siberian huskies but we were informed that they only had 30 blankets for the 62 passengers! And despite being advertised as a direct flight to Moscow we made three stops for one or two passengers to get on each time. Brilliant experience, but sure looks like they have upped their game since then!!!!
I regularly fly their business class on a Boeing 777 from Shanghai to Moscow and back and it’s so much better than A330. 2 years back they used both 777 and 330 on this route, one was morning and the other was night flight and I always tried to go for 777. The amenity kit in 777 was Salvatore Ferragamo last year, this year they changed to cosmetics from l’occitane (bloody cost-saving), but rest is good. Service is usually fast, bed is flat, towels are warm and food is good :)
Josh, great & honest review as always. Always look forward to your reviews on RUclips. I noticed both Aeroflot & Korean only operate SVO-ICN/ICN-SVO 3-4 times a week which surprises me considering the load factor & the route. Cheers Josh
Aeroflot is one of my favorite airliners. They have really good value, especially on domestic flights. Highlights are that you always have included checked luggage, and no matter how short the flight is, there is always a minimum of a snack and tea/water/juice on economy. Hello Josh Priviet.nice vidéo. I am french and had travel in July 2018 to Saint Petersburg for World Football cup in Russia by Aeroflot. My conclusion Aeroflot is better than Air France.
Talk about flight safety. My dad has told me numerous times a story when he literally flew Aeroflot’s airplane even though he was a passenger and didn’t have training regarding flying. This happened a little after USSR fell apart. He was on a business trip to Siberia and the group’s leader told him that they have a custom that every time one of them flies the plane. The leader ended up going to the front and pretty much bribed the captain. My dad was kinda horrified but went to the front, took the controls, turned the plane to right and then left and according to his words said ”that’s good”. He said to me that the passengers in the cabin were angrily staring at him when he went back to his seat. This happened in the early 90’s
The 90's were a horrible mess for Russia and former Soviet bloc countries so I'm not surprised that the standards were so low that they let anyone with money have a go flying a plane. There were 2 cases of Russian passenger planes crashing and killing everyone on board 1 was because of a a drunk pilot and the 2nd was the pilot let his kids try and fly the plane and they ended up crashing it. Very avoidable and very sad incidents.
The reason the omelette is soggy, because that’s the style of the omelette in Russia. My friend who is russian said its good to eat it that way with bread.
I went on United Airlines and it took them 3 hours to get us water and other drinks. It was also like 37 degrees (celcius) inside. Aeroflot isn't that bad compared to the American Airlines.
Aeroflot was an airline to be avoided at any cost but appear to have really lifted their game. A friend of mine always wanted to breath test the pilots before he boarded!! I notice you were using chopsticks while your neighbour ( man of Asian appearance) was using a knife and fork!! Great review Josh but might give them a miss next time I fly to Moscow!!!
Better do not. It only seems. I flied only once and they forgot my luggage. Also there are plenty of negative reviews on their company. Highly untrustworthy company
@@sandutav no need to talk nonsense! Aeroflot, one of the most reliable companies in the world!!! With the best cuisine and service. the youngest fleet of aircraft. And according to statistics, Aeroflot does not lose Luggage, unlike many companies!
Hey Josh. Lovely video! I'm quite sure you should have asked for some bread and a new blanket. One part of the flying and service experience is how airlines tackle complaints in-air. I'd love to see that as well. If you ever come visit us for summer feel free to leave a shout and I'll show you around Moscow and its surroundings.
I only have experience with Aeroflot economy class, in2017 (BUD-SVO, SVO-HAN). It is hard to compare with business, but all I can say is that my experiences were definitely positive (except one unfriendly check-in agent in Budapest). I was really confident with catering, they served a good quality and delicious meal, also the amount was generous (SVO-HAN) . During the shorter flight(BUD-SVO) there was a sandwich, tasty, and appropriate amount for that time. To be honest, I did not care about wifi, but checked the entertainment system. The choice was not really my taste, but still could enjoy documentaries about the Russian space program. The cabin crew was nice, and luckily I also could get in a conversation with the passenger on the neighbor seat.
That's a lot of setup to put that food in the bowls. Yes they don't come from the kitchen in the bowls or preheated. Service may have been slow to your liking but still good.
Hey bro, I’m glad I made your day. My hobby is civil aviation, and I got a few friends on here. Your videos are amazing. I recall the stuck in China one! I’ve been there dude, they haven’t got a clue. Glad we’re friends bro! RgY! 💯👍✔️
To Seoul and not Beijing? I can’t imagine why?! ;-) Ps... keep up the good work! Du bist der beste und deine Aufnahmen werden einfach besser und besser :-) LG, from an ex- Flight Attendant
Josh, you should have gone upstairs. Take the elevator on the right side by the reception. Upstairs is quiet with showers, massage chairs and you can sleep peacefully I missed my flight and spent the night there). There’s food and everything there too so no need to be stuck in a full room downstairs :)
Actually the miso sauce dish sounded tasty. The Japanese do broiled tai (red snapper) basted in miso (fernented soy bean paste... like in miso soup, you must have had that before?) really deliciously well so sounds like the Russians have a halibut version. I’ll give a try if I ever find myself on Aeroflot business class
SU was used a lot by Scandinavians to/from the Far East 25-30 yrs a go. They were almost half price of the classic airlines. Their long haul aircraft was Il 96. The Tu 154 flew until like 15 yrs a go on the OSL-SVO route. I remember when the A-310 came to SU. That was cool to see a western aircraft used by the russians. Lol!
My worst experience with ryanair was when the plane was delayed leaving Rome and I ordered a hot sandwich, when it arrived I started eating until my mum noticed it was half frozen. This was my only bad experience with ryanair, the stewards and stewardess were extremely kind and refunded the money for the sandwich.
Блин классно комментируешь и у тебя отменная дикция ,хоть я из России ,но все понял.Сool comment and you have excellent diction, even though I'm from Russia ,but I understood everything: 3
Josh, it's called a shoehorn (shu die Hupe). My understanding of the halibut dish is that it was popular amongst the Jews of old Odessa for dishes where meat was forbidden and its popularity fell off after the expulsion of the Jews by the Tsar. The leaves help it cook without dryness and the sauce gives it the zing. I had it years ago in Edmonton.
As a former employee at the airport i dont have a great experience with the crew of Aeroflot. They barely speak english and somehow they think I'm Russian so they kept talking Russian to me. And it was with all the flights i handled. Maybe a thing to work on?
I fly Aeroflot every time, because it is the airline of choice for any european-asian business travel. Ok, I live in Russia a few month in the year. What I should say... The most beutiful flight attendands and a normal business class. Not overdone, the price is affordable and the food is good. The flight attendands are friendly, the food is good. Maybe for western guys - some detail might be strange, but hey never experienced life in Siberia. They never pushed back a Tupolev 134 together with all other passengers by hand. For my Aeroflot - 5 thumbs up! It is not Ethihad, but it is good for what it is!
You just got in the very strange time, when Aeroflot changing their brand-pattern on some amenities, amenity kits, dishes, cutlery etc... Also they soon will replace their “old” A330 with brand new A350-900;) Also they have an amazing business class on Boeing 777-300ER.... Waiting you to make more video about Russian aviation, also, check this channel: PoletMe Aviation Videos He has got a lot of videos about Russian aviation, especially flights on old Soviet planes like AN-2 etc.... He also have English Closed Captions and he explain how to get on such rare flights)))
Hi Josh, amazed by your report, really nice!!! I’m flying Aeroflot since I was a small child, it was the first airline I’ve flew with.... It wasn’t to long ago because I’m only 14)))) but I love aviation and you’re reports So I have Aeroflot Bonus since 2012. And 8/10 of all my flights are with Aeroflot, and I can say, that Aeroflot is SUPERIMPROVED airline, their b777-300er are the best (in business class) I also noticed that service is sometimes slaw, but not too slaw. It depends on cabin crew. I always get the best one:)))) I’ve flew both of their a330 business class cabins, one, that is superold is veery cosy, also, they had really nice amenities, but not this year, by the way, they’ll change their a330 with A350-900 starting January 2020!!! Waiting for this event!!! Also I love their SSJ100, it’s super cosy))) I REEEEEEEEELY WANT YOU, TO MAKE VIDEOS ABOUT RUSSIAN AVIATION)))) YOU MUST MAKE IT!!!
I flew on Aeroflot in the late ‘80s when Russia and the Ukraine were the USSR and I flew from Moscow to Kiev. I thought I was going to die and that they’d never report it so my family wouldn’t know what happened to me. 😜 I remember there was no liquor and they had a guard on a chair (a regular chair, not an airplane seat) facing the passengers by the cockpit holding an AK-47 rifle. They would only fly in clear weather because the planes weren’t equipped with weather radar. I did survive with the help of a high dose of Valium.
Hahaha is this for real? I heard some crazy stories flying Aeroflot back in the days. My dad said there was a goat on board when he flew once in the 70s.
Oh yes, the Aeroflot of yesteryear was a whole different ball game. I flew in the late 1970's from Tokyo to Moscow, and it was an experience I'll never forget. Burly female cabin crew thundering down the aisle, a leaking aircraft, a cabin filled with cigarette smoke, and if you were seated near the rear they ran out of food before they reached you. Josh's experience is so different!
Pierre Nine Josh’s experience is very enlightening. I don’t even remember the food because I was loaded on Valium. I do remember you would lift your seat cushion and put your carry-on in that space below your seat. I also vividly remember there was no alcohol. Just when you need a drink (or 6) - nothing.
You should try the Aeroflot 777-300er it’s the best airplane of Aeroflot, (in my opinion.) I recommend the premium economy of the 777-300er it’s the best.
Another great video. I flew with Aeroflot in economy last year (mistake). When the person in front reclined her seat, the distance between her seat back and my nose was an incredible 7" - I measured it with my hand. You don't have that problem in business class!
I saw your Insta post about this earlier and was really looking forward to watching! My mum had a friend who died when an Aeroflot flights crashed in Havana but that was decades ago. I hear they're really good now! Do you live in Australia by the way? You seem to spend a lot of time here on Qantas! :)
In Economy class, I not know if everywhere, but from PVG to VCE no wines/alcohol. But I will try soon the business. Anyways whoever read the company is pretty worthwile while most Europeans are falling Aeroflot on the countrary is risings + consider the many Asian options
I actually laughed when you mentioned how slow the service was or the blanket being old or the cabin being outdated, or the egg, or no coffee... Your facial expression was epic. Try flying Singapore Airlines business class. You'll be impressed. Lol
Your always hungry and want to eat just after take-off. Actually, I prefer the all days when food was coming late. First was drinks and crackers then maybe an hour later starter and the rest of the service
Josh it is called a Shoe Horn!!!!!! I LOVE YOUR FLOG!!!!!!!!! I AM SORRY I CAP, I AM DYSLEXIC, I AM NOT YELLING OR SPAMMING, I CAN SEE BETTER WHEN I TYPE MY SPELLING!!!! I HOPE U UNDERSTAND!!!!!
Josh, Aeroflot has prices that suit Russian buyers that don’t have the same purchasing power as westerners. Btw, if you knew Russian, you could probably bargain for yourself, and ask what’s goin on and not feel like your left out of the system ;) (hire me, I can help with that. If you’re going to be reviewing other Russian airlines, you’ll definetly need that.)
hiii josh...1st..let me say..you are very handsome mister. Now..what i would like to see is perhaps you flying to Lebanon on MEA or other airline and exploring the country. I went on United Airlines and it took them 3 hours to get us water and other drinks. It was also like 37 degrees (celcius) inside. Aeroflot isn't that bad compared to the American Airlines.
I always enjoy your reviews. Good job.
I have never tried them but maybe SU 233 to Moscow but Im still not sure
As usual awesome review Josh it's so comprehensive
Seems like a decent airline overall (not the best but also not the worst) , might consider flying it in the future!
I love your videos Josh! I’ve subscribed finally dude! 👍💯
Your comment made my day :) Welcome onboard!
Hey bro, I’m glad I made your day. My hobby is civil aviation, and I got a few friends on here. Your videos are amazing. I recall the stuck in China one! I’ve been there dude, they haven’t got a clue. Glad we’re friends bro! RgY! 💯👍✔️
You are my favorite RUclipsr! Like all the videos Josh!
Shoehorn! Wasn't expecting that in an amenity kit!
Of course it's safe!!!
I agree! The title is dumb.
Most good looking aviation Vloger on earth.
Love from India 🇮🇳😊

Great video, Josh! *Aeroflot seems to be not **_THAT_** bad despite being severely underrated.* :)
*Cough, see above * ;)
Economy is crap
Don't forget that is business class, which makes it sub-standard by any yardstick.
It's not that bad, unless you need to change flights in Moscow. They have the WORST costumer service.
I see that you landed in Seoul before. I would love to see you do a review of Korean Air. It's amazing!
wonderful review. i loved it😊
Josh, you should have gone upstairs. Take the elevator on the right side by the reception. Upstairs is quiet with showers, massage chairs and you can sleep peacefully I missed my flight and spent the night there). There’s food and everything there too so no need to be stuck in a full room downstairs :)
Glad I watched this video. Was thinking of flying from HK to St Petersburg via Aeroflot. Now, I'm thinking, only as a last resort...
I fly often from Vladivostok to Moscow +/- 9 Hours. Never had a bad flight and staff are always attentive.
It’s called a shoe horn. Great review as per always. Happy travels. Australia 🇦🇺 day this Saturday so a long weekend down under. And it’s 🥵.
I loved this! The music was a great fit - it had a slight comedy air and it looked like you were trying not to laugh a lot of the time 😂
Josh, it's called a shoehorn (shu die Hupe).
Tolles Video wie immer Josh! ✌️ Und passende Musik für Aeroflot! 😅
This seat is almost exactly the same compared to the old business class seats on saudia (saudi arabian airlines) you can find on their 777
Even airindia
Man, Air Koryo is stepping up their game!
That made me laugh so much lol
I love the gypsy music!
Nice vedio. Aeroflot Boeing 777 fleet has the best passenger service than their a330s
Good review
Josh Cahill Absolutely 100% the truth. It was an experience I’ll never forget.
Wow I’m super jealous! The good old days haha
I need a telescop or some strong glasses to view that tiny tv.what did you get for desert?🧐interesting flight josh!
Good, maybe, but safe, I'm pretty sure it is, they actually have decent pilots capable of landing an Aeroflot on fire.
I Love Aeroflot!
But at 5th Of May....
That was a sad moment in SVO
Superjet...
Challenge Time yes...
This is not very good plane...
RIP all people who died at this crash...
As long as you got there safe, that's all that matters.
Great video 👍 ✈️
“Shoe horn” 👍🏻
In Soviet Russia, you don't choose what to have for breakfast on the airplane, the breakfast chooses you!
Please Alt+F4 and go play Fortnite
@@impic2135 I don't play fortnite or any of that shit, who do you think I am, some kind of whiny teenager? Go flame somewhere else.
@luihime You're acting like one right now man. Sorry
@@impic2135 nice, you're turning the tortilla now. Go away love.
@luihime ok bye
I saw your Insta post about this earlier and was really looking forward to watching! My mum had a friend who died when an Aeroflot flights crashed in Havana but that was decades ago. I hear they're really good now! Do you live in Australia by the way? You seem to spend a lot of time here on Qantas! :)
Yes Australia is pretty much home :)
I just took the aeroflot, planes are ok but airport transfer was so small like 400-500 people try to cross only one check point...It was hard.
No flat bed on Business class long haul? No way!- lol
Lol
What about the fare? Is it impressif too? I mean as cheap as that aeroflot?
I love Aeroflot
Seats remind me of the old Air France business class (circa 2010) on their 777 - great vlog Josh
Well, they don't fly 737MAX so they are pretty safe! 💁♀️
They are the worlds most dangerous Airline, check ratings!
@@bkfmoto2359 Which ratings? googled it, wasnt able to find that
2 Hrs after Food is not yer Serve!😝😂 they make hungry josh😅 and that bowl is big i never saw that in other airline.keep safe😇
Try Azimuth and Alrosa in Russia :)
Josh, are there no Korean speakers on the flight?
I flew Aeroflot from Moscow to Guangzhou, China, and all in all it wasn’t that bad....ahahah
Your always hungry and want to eat just after take-off. Actually, I prefer the all days when food was coming late. First was drinks and crackers then maybe an hour later starter and the rest of the service
All russian airlines sounds cool please do it
No spoilers but DEF worth a watch. I may have committed murder if X took X. Your patience is amazing @josh cahill
Josh it is called a Shoe Horn!!!!!! I LOVE YOUR FLOG!!!!!!!!! I AM SORRY I CAP, I AM DYSLEXIC, I AM NOT YELLING OR SPAMMING, I CAN SEE BETTER WHEN I TYPE MY SPELLING!!!! I HOPE U UNDERSTAND!!!!!
Great review. How do you find all these cheap Business Class fares? especially one way.
What is the brand/name of your hoodie in this video?
Josh, Aeroflot has prices that suit Russian buyers that don’t have the same purchasing power as westerners. Btw, if you knew Russian, you could probably bargain for yourself, and ask what’s goin on and not feel like your left out of the system ;) (hire me, I can help with that. If you’re going to be reviewing other Russian airlines, you’ll definetly need that.)
Hey Josh, that thing in you amenity kit is called a Shoe Horne. 😉
Anybody notice on same parts of the vid the engine tune don't sound even?
The Russian Areofloat is The Number One super bowl party in this Airlines.😁😎🤔🤔😘🤗🤩
hiii josh...1st..let me say..you are very handsome mister. Now..what i would like to see is perhaps you flying to Lebanon on MEA or other airline and exploring the country. I would loooove to trael to this country as it's country is beautiful and the people are very welcoming....lmk will ya....enjoy you
I flew Aeroflot from London to Narita and the flight from London to Moscow was amazing but Moscow to japan was not good at all.
