It’s interesting that you have received so many questions at the border. As a Dutch person i’ve been to Russia 5 times in the last year and a half and I never even received a single question even though we are seen as an unfriendly nation by Russia. They only made a joke once and asked if I had weed on me😅.

I enjoyed this episode as I’ve always wanted to go to Russia but …….. I also want to say that it really enhances your vlog and our ‘experience’ when you include some scenes from the city/country you’re visiting - like you did here in Moscow. I’ve watched almost all of your videos and that element of showcasing the place you’re ‘landing’ in takes it to the next level. I’ve seen your old IG photos of your travels ( Afghanistan) and loved them as a travel enthusiast myself. Keep safe and well.

I’m British, I recently travelled to Russia to visit my girlfriends parents. We flew into St Petersburg and was held at the border for approximately 2.5 hours. The FSB staff who dealt with me were extremely professional, it was scary at first but they really only care you have the correct visa. What a fantastic country once I was inside, I am really looking forward to going back 👍🏻

Hi Josh, I had the pleasure to work in and out of Moscow and St Petersburg for 20 years. I saw the good and bad of the country within this time. The architecture, museums and as you said the Metro is stunning in Moscow as well as St Petersburg. The people I worked with were amazing, but sadly we lost the office over what has happened.
You are right, Moscow is a bucket list city, in Winter as well as summer.
If I remember, the Raddison where you stayed is part of Stalin Sisters, which are 7 near identical buildings around the city. I used to stay in the Hilton Leningradskaya which was also one of the sisters. The hotel was just amazing, we stayed there a lot and even received an invitation to the staff party which is something that I will never forget.
We always flew BMI (back in the time) and then British Airways in and out of DME and then the Sapsan train up to St Pete's. The BA crew were not allowed off the aircraft, so it was one of the longest working days for them within the BA fleet.
It was always interesting going in and out of immigration, even with a full working visa sanctioned by them...!
Happy Travels , your vlog brought back a lot of fond memories.
Strange, I've never had an issue going through immigration in Russia (even in recent years - as recent as two months ago). It's pretty normal actually. Exactly like most other countries with the exception of the United States.
Depends who you worked for.....@@dennisrettke
@@andywhite6713 what's that supposed to mean? I am Australian and arrived on a tourist visa. Lol. If you are talking about the US immigration experience, then if you're American you would not know. They hassle each and every foreigner regardless of where they are from or for what purpose they arrive. Once I became a permanent resident I could go through the "citizens and residents" lane. That experience was much different - a friendly "welcome home".
"Hey Josh" I watch your channel more than the news because I get more out of it 😊

I've accumilated 25,000 aerofloat miles in the last two years. I've flown their 330, 777 and 350. They paid off the leasing companies early this year. They somehow manage to get the spare parts. They're really nice to tourists.
The pay offs are only a fraction of the original values and not for all airplanes.

One of the reasons you found the fries better in Russia.
Mc Donald’s, tries to source as much of its products locally as possible. Obviously they did that with the fries and the new owners, maintained that relationship.
You will find Potatoes from colder countries have much more flavour than others. This is very true as well, with seafood
very intersting!

Not a new owners techically, a company is now under control by one of the former major franchise owners
Moreover, McD retained the right to repurchase, hoping for better times. Even the fonts and color scheme have not changed, only the logo. Therefore producers within the country remained the same

I just returned home to California from Moscow a few days ago, around the same time this video was made. It was my fourth visit since February 2022 and my experiences were similar on the Aeroflot flight I flew between Moscow and Samarkand, Uzbekistan. Last week, upon exiting the country, I was taken back for a 30 minute "interview" at passport control. Completely understandable given the terrorist bombings that have occurred in Russia and the lethal aid being supplied by the West. It's worth noting that, unlike the EU and US, which harass Russian visitors extensively even before the invasion, and now make visa issuance to them or entry all but impossible in many cases, Russia has kept its doors wide open to Western visitors. In four visits and more than six months of aggregate time there in the last two years I've not had a single negative experience. Such incidents at passport control and others mentioned are small inconveniences compared to the wonderful experiences that await. Nice video Josh!
i lived in Moscow from 2009 to 2014 doing my uni and i can tell you, the city is so beautiful and unique that i never ever stopped exploring it and always being amazed, i hope all this ends soon and i can go visit again. Great vid Josh

They (border guard, part of FSB) interrogate people from "Unfriendly countries" and also Russians who left the country avoiding mobilization or who emigrated some time ago. And that's why they're asking if you have a Telegram account - if you're a Russian citizen and you wrote something against the war or Putin's regime in private conversations or even if you're subscribed to some "wrong" channels - you'll definitely have a huge fine or even could be imprisoned from 2 to 15 years.

why brave? what risk he had there? Moscow is much safer than most of the western capitals.
@@fulger2010 Most of the comments here are from western media propaganda victims such as this guy. The comment section is defintely exposing the pathetic western mindset and how brainwashed these clowns are.
Really enjoyed the video, love to see more of Russia. I don't agree with sanctions on commercial aircrafts, it's not the right thing to do, many non Russian passengers travel on these Just like Josh. Beautiful buildings. ❤

Hey Josh, welcome to Russia! Thank you for your message about the dark side of many countries around the world, It's very refreshing to hear a Westerner say this after the demonization that Russia, her government, and her people have been subject to for over two years.
As a Russian repatriate with family members living abroad, travelling has become quite a bit more expensive; I used to fly to my other home country for roughly $350-450 for a round trip back in the day. Now the same flight would take me twice as long and cost north of $600, often significantly so.
I’m definitely hooked to this channel. Others love to fly to fancy places in first class seats on the worlds best airlines. Here is a guy who flies mostly economy and taking some risks both in the air and on the ground!! Great job 👍
You are the best aviation youtuber. I like your very nice opinions and thoughts on the situation and how you took it. I did myself 2 aviation trips to Russia since the start of war. Flew Kostroma Air Antonov’s and Vologda Air Yak’s and also Rossiya Superjets. Aeroflot is underrated in many people minds. Moscow is beautiful city. Wish you good luck Josh!
In 2023, Forbes compiled a rating of airlines that make low-cost and regular flights from Russia abroad. Analysts have compiled a list of the 30 most popular destinations and compared the airlines that fly there by average prices, number of flights and available cities. The list of 30 popular cities for departure from Russia from September 2022 to August 2023 includes Yerevan, Istanbul, Tashkent, Dushanbe, Antalya, Baku, Bishkek, Osh, Minsk, Dubai, Khujand, Almaty, Astana, Tbilisi, Samarkand, Tel Aviv, Namangan, Kulyab, Chisinau, Bukhara, Ferghana, Belgrade, Urgench, Phuket, Bangkok, Ganja, Bokhtar, Denpasar (Bali), Dalaman and Paris. Aeroflot became the leader of the rating, which received maximum points for the frequency of flights, as well as for the route network.
My daughter visited Russia in 1993 as a high school student. She was 18 at the time and traveling with a student group. What made her so very sad was the poverty of some of the families her group was staying with. She was "horrified " at the toilet facilities in those homes. No paper was allowed down the loo. Also, neighbors pooled their food so the Americans would have an abundance. She was impressed with the bread, homemade of course! Her mama isn't a baker. She came home with the knowledge that she was a very blessed young woman from the USA. Josh, thank you for your work. Your channel has helped me weather some difficult times medically speaking. ❤
I did a summer abroad in Beijing in 2001 for college. There was no paper allowed in the toilets in our dorms. I was horrified at that as well.
Did she also went to India. 😡
There is poverty is every country. I have seen appalling poverty in America. Families who are food insecure, 4th graders who can’t read, and homes with no indoor plumbing.
Come to Greece, no toilet paper allowed down the toilets here as well not to mention that in a lot of tourist locations in the smaller town and villages have no toilet seats for the toilets, guess they are too expensive to constantly replace. Biggest problem is that the guys are to fu¢|
90s was a very harsh time for Russia, Its thankfully gotten better though. Its why so many people support Putin, The times now with his leadership are simply just much much better than what people had to suffer through post USSR breakdown
