I flew to Asia's least visited country, East Timor / Timor Leste, with their national airline Aero Dili. Here's what happened.

The "offical Noel Philips East Timor meet n greet"😂❤ i love when RUclipsrs film their fans coming up and saying hi. Did you ever imagine you would have such a worldwide audience?!
Noel is most engaging.
Did they post your passport too? haha...
Hi Josh, guess AeroDilli needs more consistency with their experience!
No, thanks to Incogni, my personal data is safe 😂
Hahahahaha
LOL😂

Noel must be sleep deprived. Teasing us with the mystery next destination at the end, having completely forgot he told us where he was going next half way through the flight....
Another cracking video.
He just wants to make sure that we're paying attention 😉
Heehee, I said that too 🌼😂 gotta love Noel, but yes I don’t know how he does it sometimes - it must get exhausting not to mention the constant jet lag. We appreciate him.
I only heard the end part 😂😂😂
Noel has flown on 100% of this airline's fleet. 😂
I'm impressed by his ability to survive food poisoning 😃
Is there a mix of meds taken as a preemptive strike ? 😃😃
Or did he actually skip ingesting it 😃😃😃
they actually have a cessna too you can see it at 14:59 after the twotter
The hotel looked fine to me. As long as things are clean and tidy. You had a TV, a mini-fridge, a desk, and a/c.
Yeah all I'd need...
Yeah I guess it wasn't up to Noel's usual standard of Hilton and Marriott 😅
Was thinking the same thing. That hotel was perfect. Much prefer to stay in places like this than the chain hotels.
It all depends on how much it costs.
Looks nice and clean for me (someone from southeast asia) probably a step down from a westerner who flies often
The “Loo Review” straight after the luke warm chicken in flight meal experience, very well edited 😀
Always enjoy when you show us a little bit of the destinations you fly to. Keep it up Noel.
Glad you enjoyed it
Nice bit of nostalgia for me..... one small point: the island you point out at 20:27 is actually Atauro, which is not Indonesian, but part of Timor-Leste. Great island to visit.
Have been to Atauro! Stayed there overnight back in 2012 in a beach side shack. It was where I first saw fireflies in the wild! Lovely island, worth the ferry trip over and back. Think the ferry we took over we shared with the Australian ambassador at the time!
It looked not too bad. A little rough but not bad. The people were friendly. The airline was basically economy. The beach at the end looked beautiful. The hotel was pretty nice. The pool looked really nice. Another awesome stop on your journey Noel. Looking forward to the next adventure. Sending positivity to you Noel ❤
Very bad, and very poor
@@dedeyusuf223😮😢
Really like the footage of the destination, please do this more often! :) Your flight reviews are always exciting to watch, but showing what it is like at the destination is superb!
You are such an optimistic and witty person and I think this really helps your channel stand out. I love your videos!! Just found you and have been binge watching and learning a lot. Looking forward to the next one!!! Cheers!
Thank you so much, & welcome aboard.
Thanks for yet another wonderful video and review. Don’t let the haters get you down Noel 😅
Love the little epilogue you did at the end. Nice to see the hotel and the area.
Thank you Noel for always keeping me entertained with your posts. One of my favorite RUclips channels since Covid. I hope to run into you one day at IAH.
16:57 The hotel manager always sleeping. Surprise he's awake upon your arrival 😂
As somebody who did a report on East Timor for my International Law class this video and the fact that there's tourist coming here makes me so happy!
That’s so cool. What was your report about?
Been there 6 years ago, would love to go back it's a really interesting destination
Oh thats cool! What did you report on?
They forget to wash their butthole after defecating
Im sorry I thought I responded! It was about the genocide
Thank you so much Noel for this lovely video I really adore you and appreciate your efforts 😘
Glad you enjoyed it!
Huge respect for East Timor from Malaysia. It is always nice to see a country continue to progress after independence
Still poor, it would be better if they were not independent
@@dedeyusuf223 its sad but its true, comparing to the other side of the island, feel more lively
Isolated, they can't go anywhere, poor thing
Maju di mananya pembangunan juga sisa dari zaman pemerintahan Indonesia itu😂
Coba kamu kesana pasti tau keadaan sebenarnya
@@Jhon650 yeah, but they are part of ASEAN now, so as Indonesian I rather encourage them to progress and move forward, simply for the region, and they're our close neighbor anyway
Really love your videos Noel! Really appreciate all the hard work that goes into making each and everyone of these videos!
Glad you like them!
You did a great job on your videos Noel and I also love to look at airplanes too Noel 😊
Hi Noel I love your channel thank you for doing a video on this airline and hope your personal information is safe with the airline.
I would like to say when you checked into this hotel it was a shock to hear the clerk say he was from Wollongong I'm from Wollongong nsw Australia you should one day take a trip to Wollongong it's beautiful. Happy travels and can't wait for the Darwin video. 🇦🇺❤❤
The Sam Chui shade @4:01 💀
😂😂😂😂😂😂
Sam is definitely deserving of all the shade. He's ridiculously bland.
@@CallieMasters5000different strokes for different folks i guess. There is a space for them all . SC seems to be genuinely enamored by aviation as where majority of reviewers are only interested in the onboard/ground product.
Some people don't have Sam's cheerful and personable personality. He is really happy he left finance and got a chance to experience all the unique aspects of aviation while people like Josh and that Swed guy are grumpy all the time
@@Peichen01honestly. If i want to see a “review” of something i watch Jeb Brooks , when i watch Sam it mainly comes across as as insightful because he shows way more about aviation than anyone else . And people only bitch and moan when he does anything with the ME3. He can do a behind the scenes with Air france or Azul and they are all quiet . He does the same thing with a Middle Eastern carrier and he’s instantly a sellout.
Great Video Noel❤Still Love the loo reviews and keep videos coming 👍👍❤️❤️
Another nice one Noel ! Except for the sound !!!!! The Loo review volume nearly blew my head off !
Just imagine the people watching this video in a public space...
Hey Noel, thanks for sharing Aero Dili and East Tiomor, it's awesome to showcase this airline and country, I hope the airline improves and just maybe next time you fly on it, things will be better!
Whew. Was starting to worry we wouldn't get a vid today! It's not a Sunday without one of your vids!
Thanks for showing the hotel and around the city some! Love seeing the extras.
Glad you enjoyed!
Gettin' silly on Aero Dili, got a Grandma Hazel and a Grandma Tilly. 😅
All jokes aside, judging from Noel's experience, I think the airline is decent. Beautiful little nation and friendly people. Noel is truly living a dream!
It would be great if Noel could buy a t-shirt that says Air Dilly.
I understand he had to Picc a Dilli😇
@@stephenhemingway8218
Well i thought it's a 'lil bit chilly, like my ex who went by named Millie.
Thoughts of her made me bit grimly, then i realized she's as hard as a mama grizzly.
This video a little different as it’s nice to actually see the place your flying to, really enjoyed this one Noel 😊
Thank you for visiting Timor 🇹🇱
Well another what i call another jolly video nice to go to a place and the locals are friendly thanks for sharing the delights of aero Dilli and the town of Dilli look forward to the nxt adventure 😀
Oh yes! Mega looking forward to you getting silly on Airo Dilli. Cool vid Noel.
Another great vlog Noel, totally love all the different airlines you fly and all the countries you visit, you always make it so special and great viewing, 👍✈️
Glad you like them!
The hotel was simple but it looked nice. I love how your videos take us to some pretty out of the way places!
Glad you like them!
Awesome content as always.
Glad you enjoyed it
When you told us you flown with Aero Dili to East Timor weeks earlier, i am a little bit worried since the warning by another of my favorite aviation youtuber and your friend, Josh Cahill. 15:23 it's my favorite part👍
Yay new video from the 🐐❤️
Noel this is another great video well done let's be honest not many of us going to get to East Timor so thanks for the trip.
Glad you enjoyed it
I love your weekly videos...been watching since lockdown...love from sunny portsmouth uk xx
Thanks so much
How often do you run into viewers on the channel in these semi remote locations? That was awesome
I recognize the lounge in Bali. Not the worst lounge I’ve visited. Smart to eat BEFORE the flight (especially after seeing Cahill’s video!) Continued Safe Travels! ✈️🙏🏻
Great trip report 👌 Noel. If only your food had been hot. Looking forward to your next upload 👋
Yes see you on the next one. Safe travels Onward
Thank you for sharing!
Great video as always! Will you be flying to Greenland when Nuuks new airport opens? I'd be really interested to see it!
Thanks Noel, for always showing me places I didn't even know existed.☺️👍👍👍
You have never heard of East Timor??
What it is the bathroom in your hotel and well the room overall isn’t bad. It’s not fancy. But it does look clean and comfortable. Which really is what you need. If you’ve been traveling and are worn out. Doesn’t have to be fancy. Just clean and comfortable and relaxing.great video my friend. Thank you for posting and sharing.
Ask for that television though lol, I think my iPad pro 12.9 inch is bigger than that lol
I seldom leave comments. After watching your video I would like to visit East Timor. Thank you for showing me places that I would call paradise.
Another great video from the far reaches of the globe. Those little kids were so amazing, even they know that your only 1 of 9 others who look like they are from out of town. They reminded me of kids from the 1960's when kids were allowed to play outside with other kids and have fun. The motel was nice and had that nice island vibe to it.
Yep great review once again, looked like a nice friendly cabin crew, lavvy a wee bit dodgy but I think as they grow they'll do well, cheers Noel
Hi Philips
Thnks to visiting My country as A Timorense i'm verry happy beacuse you can introdios my country and then axplore my country so
Thnks so much .mr Philips Obrigado..🇹🇱🇹🇱
21:54 The beautiful beaches of Dili, in East Timor. Such a lovely place. (In Background Garbages Beach). 🤭
Thank you for coming 👏😘
Great quip about Sam Noel. Josh was so right about them.. Great video as always Noel.
In Oz if you get the chance, fly the Dash 8 Qantaslink flight from Cairns to Hamilton Island. Lower altitude means you get to see the Great Barrier Reef (sit on the left) for much of the flight. The short runway at HTI means the flight would turn into a cruise if the brakes fail. Hire a golf buggy & drive past George Harrison's house.
Thank you for sharing this type of flight!!😮😊
Glad you enjoyed it!
@@noelphilips You make me laugh many times with your travels! 😂 Hahaha!!
16:18 I would recommend using the seat belt, because - unexpectedly perhaps - even still with those sketchy airlines you are using, getting hurt in a regular traffic accident, is still one of the greatest risks when travelling.
It will be nice for East Timor to thrive and grow. Hopefully tourism will flourish and not damage the country environmentally. I've met People from Timor and they are wonderful. I'd love to visit this country
Noel yiu are crazy to some places you fly but I always make time to see your episodes they are awesome
The island you pointed out is not only of Indonesian island but it's one of east timor island and it is call Atauro. And there's a lot of nice beaches and places to visit if you're lucky.
Thanks for go East Timor Im from East Timor Leste❤❤❤
It one of my long life dreams to travel to every country Portugal has colonised. I'm sure some resentment might linger, but it fills my heart with joy seeing that one Portuguese trait has stuck: being friendly and happy. Love to all my Portuguese-speaking friends ❤
Love your videos Noel... Thank You
Glad you like them!
Noel, if I am not mistaken your hotel in Timor was one of the first ones to be built just after independence. It was built for aid / govt workers working on the transition to full independence. The hotel was built from containers and whatever was around.
Since you flew from bali i can see how contrast if we compared bali to dili. Dili is like way more underdeveloped than bali
I knew you’d eventually fly AeroDili after what happened when Josh flew on it right?
It's good to see content like this - the vast majority of us will never get to fly on Aero Dili to East Timor, so thanks for taking us all along with you!
Glad you enjoyed it!
22 years after separating from Indonesia, East Timor is on the list of the poorest countries in the world (World Bank 2023).
What is happening currently in Timor Leste.
1. Most of the necessities of life are still imported from Indonesia.
2. Natural oil resources are increasingly depleting.
3. Low quality of human resources.
This results in this country being unattractive for investors and far behind other countries in the ASEAN region
mimpi tk seindah kenyataan
As in many other Countries, isn't that right Abi ? East Timor is a friendly Country, its people are Catholic ( Indonesia is an Islamic Country and have lots of poor people there too) . The Oil should be an important and positive resource for the developement of Timor but I have many doubts about that . Oil for the poor Countries is poison most of the times .
Greetings from 🇵🇹 Portugal.
Another great balanced video Noel. Thoroughly entertained! Although, I must admit I was sweating when you started talking about weirdos stalking you hahaha I was sure I was gonna make the list thank goodness I didnt! HAHA. I hope your ribs recover soon looking forward to the next video. I Just got back from 3 weeks away meself MEL-SIN-CAN-PVG...SHA-CAN-SIN-MEL I couldnt remember which lounge you recommended in Changi ended up in the SATS as the boss has free access through CC. Anyhoo all the best to Rach and the kids.
Very enjoyable Noel! Nice to see Wollongong represented with the hotel owner! :D
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great to see you had the mission aviation fellowship plane (MAF) on arrival to Dili. Susi Air also fly in West Papua. A NZ pilot is still being held hostage in West Papua, been over a year now I think.
How lovely to see the pride of the Aero Dili employee to see Noel flying his airline. Very nice.
I believe East Timor well within the tropics at 8 degrees South of the Equator. Therefore beaches could be called tropical, without a problem.
It's a right shame when such a lovely little country had to go through such a rough history. It could've been more to the likes of Singapore if they'd been left in peace. Hopefully they'll keep it up. Such lovely people deserve better.
Sadly oil is the main reason why Indonesia invaded the area
You have to remember that this was the cold war and there were indications that the East Timor independence movement was viewed by the likes of the US and Australia as being tied to communism (which is why for example Australia tried to keep journalists out of the country and keep the Australian people from finding out what was really going on and why Australia were in favor of Indonesia taking control (because they saw the alternative as communists on our doorstep)
@@jfwfreo Whether it's for or against our ideals and values, the outcome could've been better with peace rather than war. That's all I'm saying.
@@petesmart1983 Oil still makes world go round. And it's probably true they invaded because East Timor looked weak, having just gotten their independence. Otherwise they would've invaded, say, Norway, as well. But that would've been grave mistake.
So to me it seems like a classic bully move.
And the new president of Indonesia was one of the army generals responsible for the genocide, how messed up is that?
Looks beautiful
Great video Noel i love watching your video. I miss your pilot vlogs are they coming back?
Since I injured my ribs, it may be a bit, before i can fly myself again. :'(
@@noelphilips Oh sorry to hear you are hurt, i hope you feel better soon my friend
Great video
I mean it looks like a pretty awesome place if they could clean it up a little bit... Reminds me a lot of how Costa Rica used to be...
Definitely agree, especially with the proximity to Australia, they could probably do really well with tourism if they start putting more effort in.
@@schalitz1quite interesting that there’s not more of an Australian influence there given the history of Australia and East Timor. Australia is pretty much a pseudo protectorate of East Timor.
@@loganbaileysfunwithtrains606 what do you mean? Mind if you want to whole essay?
Who the hell writes my man Noel hate mail. I love you man. You're my favourite
Enjoy your holiday in East Timor 🇹🇱 ❤❤
Noel. Great show. Thank you for all your hard work.
Not too dreadful! Nice trip Noel!
Finally an upload, something to watch while I tuck into my filet o fish shortly. Haha
The last time I saw Dili was during the troubles, as in IT contractor for one of the many non gov orgs working in the region, arrived on the HMAS Jervis Bay, flew out on a Canadian operated Hercules, but even then the locals were very friendly. Great to see them moving ahead, (was the bridge completed yet??)
You do the coolest things.
Congratulations 🎉
Great video.
Glad you enjoyed it
Wonder video! I had never heard of Aero Dili before, very interesting to see what they are like.
Thank you for visiting my country east Timor sirr
If you're going to Darwin and have the time, take a side trip to Litchfield National Park, there's some beautiful waterfalls there.
I hope your ribs heal well! 🩻 That takeoff was stunning! The kids so sweet
Noel Phili goes silly on Aero Dili...another great video. Always interesting to get a review of an airline and to see part of the world that I'm fairly unlikely to see. I'm amazed Josh C's passport was posted online - surely that's a gross breach of privacy. Anyway everyone connected with the airline seemed very friendly.
expensive fare for untourist destination that's why nobody get on that flight.
Josh was right about the food served in Aero Dili but so far you are having a great time with the public relations part of it. We all know why, It's your wonderful personality!
Well, one is a normal friendly person, the other one is... different.
I must admit after Josh, I would not really have risked it if it had been anything but hot.
I have to say, I have a funny feeling about Josh. Although the story posted by the airline was somehow weird, but I don’t know how to take Josh. He is a tad too often involved in weird situations for my taste.
A delightfully delivered ditti from Dili!
Thanks bro for visiting east timor
Jeez, Lord Noel's video is coming 75 minutes later than usual. This one is a premiere. Looking forward to it. Cheers Lord
I frequently travelled to Dili back in 2005-2011 as part US Congress Inter Parliamentary program/funds to rebuild and support Timor Lest Parliament's library.
I always preferred the Esplanada Hotel to the Hotel Timor, altough the later hotel is just 5 minutes walk to the Parliament building.
Back then, the rooms in Esplanada were made from stacked 40ft containers. It looks much nicer now. I recalled there were no fridge, tv, water dispenser. Just the very basic: bed, aircon, table and bathroom.
But I love the lounge/resto on the 2nd floor above the lobby. Good food and great view to the ocean.
The room looked fine, has air conditioning, a bed and indoor plumbing so that's all someone needs
Radio equipment in planes these days work on different frequencies to wifi/Bluetooth and cellular data. There is no risk with it interfering with the radio/electrical equipment of the plane. 👍🏼
