As an iranian i always said that its only take one person to embarrassed whole country.last year i was in tehran international airport to send some package and saw a cab driver start lying and scamming a tourist. Its make me fraustrated and also angry so i start to talking to that tourist and decided to give him a ride to his hotel and spend almost 2hours to teach him about common scams and after one week he texted me about gratitude and having the best time in Iran. Josh im very sorry for your experience in iran and i hope you have better luck and experience next time

Wow the food looked less than appetizing! 🤢And indeed the jet has seen better days inside but like was mentioned in the video, this service looks like it's just meant to get you from point A to point B and that is all. 🤷♂
I'm an American & I've met a few Iranians while traveling internationally. Every person I met has always been extremely friendly, polite & a pleasure to be around honestly.
Spot on mate. I have 3 Iranian cousins and they are the 3 nicest people you will ever meet. I have met several Iranians also whilst travelling and they are a great and proud people. Don't judge Iranian people by the actions of the Iranian Government.
The first check-in agent was very friendly. When everyone is friendly in a service type company, it is more often than not, because of training and policy, but when someone is friendly in an environment that does not care or train their staff well, then that person is very special because they are real and their style of service is just part of their authentic personality. People like this are rare and are hard to pick out in a company where service is generally good, so I feel you were lucky to have this experience. Not in terms of airline service but for having had this opportunity to meet a genuinely good person.
Wow your review is really appropriate for this video and I appreciate your realistic mind .The people of Iran are in a lot of trouble, but they are kind and warm. Unfortunately, they have not been properly trained, and because very few tourists enter Iran and the doors of the country are closed, less of them know English. In this video, the crew is not rude, they cannot speak English. They answer with just one word, but the young generation is very intelligent
Sometime certain bad situation or having bad day can affect a good person attitude, its only human, so does having a good day have have positif and happier behavour even on a bad person
Iran is a fu*king hell. Talking from experience. I just travelled to iran and they stole my wallet and id card and credit card. Now I can't get back to my country (germany) and I just fuc*ing regret it. I have a lot more reasons that u shouldn't travel to iran.
Hi, Josh, I'm a Canadian, I went to Iran in 2017 for 15 days. I flew from London Gatwick with BA and never had all these experience that you had. When I landed at Tehran Airport, they just looked at my visa, asked a few questions and I was let in. It's an eye opening experience to travel through different cities. People were friendly and I walked around sight seeing without problems!
The fact he checked in at the wrong counter and was transferred in a car, plus being a westerner might have caused Iran officials to suspect that he might have been a spy or something?
I am Iranian and you will fall in love with the delicious Iranian dishes such as Kebab, Fesenjan, Qorme Sabzi and Grilled Chicken. It is a pity that you came to Iran but did not visit the sights and cities of Iran.❤

As an Iranian I found this whole video really embarrassing🤦🏻♀ So sorry you had an unpleasant experience on that flight. Iranians actually used to be very nice and hospitable people but I feel all the recent economic/societal/political pressures have been taking a toll on them and they've become weird. Also giving tips (and definitely asking for tips!) is not a norm in Iran, and that weird driver that took you to the VIP terminal shouldn't have asked for it, and I wish you had refused to pay him any tip. smh

@@pouyaneav3664 when your female air crew don't have to cover their heads and when you give women equal rights I may think about it. Until then Iran is correctly regarded as a pariah state. Move on.
Regarding the fuel situation: The same is valid for all European airlines in Teheran. You don’t get fuel there. That’s why we at Lufthansa also take our return fuel with us. For our 747 the Teheran ops was quite tricky. Every landing was at max landing weight. Meant, a relatively high approach speed as IKA’s airport elevation is around 3300’. That made it impossible to fly the approach as published and required us to circle down to be able for a straight in approach. At night. With Very high terrain in the vicinity of the airport. After landing you have already hot brakes which get even hotter because the taxiway back to the terminal has a downgrade so you permanently have to manual step into the brakes. And then it happened where everyone thought: These Germans are joking, aren’t they?? Why? Our arrival time in IkA is around 1am in the night and when I flew there for the first time in August 2012 it was still around 24*C (75*F). During the outside check I observed a lot of ice in between engines 1 and 2 and 3 and 4 on the lower wing surface. Having ice there is not a problem at all but I had some kind of idea how it would look like on the upper surface. There we go, the area in between the engines was also covered with ice. That’s because of all the fuel we had in the tanks for the return flight that of course cooled down on our flight from FRA to IKA. So while ice on the lower wing surface isn’t a problem- it is ok the upper wing. For the 747 that means: No departure without de-icing the wings and stabilizer. Now can you imagine, when I asked the ramp agent from Iran Air , while everyone is running around in short sleeved shirts, if I could have a truck who could de-ice our wings? In August?? At times where we didn’t give Iran Air fuel and they did not give us fuel? There were just 2 solutions: We somehow can make it happen that Iran Air fills up their one and only operating De-icing truck and then would be so kind and also de-ice our aircraft- or we would have to wait till afternoon until the sun was out long enough to warm the fuel enough to melt the ice. Lufthansa Station Manager took control of the situation and around 45 minutes later a fully filled de- icing truck was ready for us. We got pushed back, then towed to a remote area and got fully de-iced. Started engines and, flying M0.87, landed in FRA 25 minutes ahead of time. I flew the Teheran Ops for another 10 months and have to say that the Iranian people are just one of the most kind I have ever met around the entire world.
Excellent first hand account! Unintended consequences of fuel sanctions. That cold soaked tankered fuel icing up the wings! I wonder if override of the fuel control system to constantly transfer fuel from tank to tank might have helped? In flight and after landing. Keep center tank level high so only belly ice and wing tanks at where they go but keep moving the fuel so it picks up heat from max wing surface area. I love the 747!
I have a question. Is the station manager of an airline hired locally or are they hired at the airline's hub and sent to live in the city where the destination airport is?
Nice video Josh but start realizing that planes only use fuel when they go up. Once in the air it is compressed air that keeps airplanes in the air. You don't really think that 100.000 litres of fuel fits in those wings, do you ?
If any country in the world got sanctioned like this, you wouldn't be able to even take a flight. Iran is doing a great job despite all that. I personally take Mahan Air, and their service is amazing. I've never been on Iran Air before, but it certainly cannot be compared to other airlines that have easier access to everything.

As a Black and current American Army Soldier, I love my brothers and sisters from Iran. Sadly our governments do not get along. But I have nothing but love for the people of Iran who are just trying to live a happy and peaceful life for families, friends and God. Back in 2017 I met a couple of Russian Army Soldiers who were visiting Dallas. They said the same thing to me about Americans. So it is my duty to pass the love forward. I know everything will never always be peaceful in our life, but we can love each other; even if we have different beliefs and cultures. God Bless the world.
I served in the Army during the last days of the cold war and was in Germany when the wall came down. Your statement is what we try to teach our soldiers. Thanks for being a good representative of what being an American soldier is about.
He most likely mentioned it because that's how the media wants us as a people portrait. The media wants all people to be divided, as that's what sales their stories better.
From Iran: You the Americans are our brothers and sisters no matter how stupid both our governments are and the controlled media divides us. The Iranian government is not the representative of our nation at all. That's why most tourists get shocked when visiting the actual people in the cities by our well-known silk-road hospitality (search on RUclips visiting Iran). At the same time the US government has been trying its best to keep our barbaric regime in place(the west installed regime in 1979). Because the weapon manufacturers profit billions of $ annually from selling equipment to other Middle Eastern countries plus gaining a lot from sanctions by buying our resources for very cheap or no cost (blocked money). Peace and Love to your nation and all other Citizens of the Earth!
@Ted Ching to even think something like that is possible these days in America is crazy. If something so Ludacris were to happen; minorities would win because we outnumber whites here in the States. What makes you think minorities wouldn't stick together and overthrown Tom? Even Native Americans would jump in and get their long awaited revenge. People think that white people run things. We just allow them to. Black and brown people built America, we set the standard for pop culture around the world. Women of most nations mimick the image of the black woman. And I know this for a fact because I've lived all around the world while in the Army. And the music coming out today proves such. Even Country music has low bass and people rapping in it. So what makes you think a race war would happen when they literally can't live without us or our culture?

So sorry to hear about this experience. Iranian people were so friendly on a journey we had once with a group there that we all broke into tears because of being fully overwhelmed of this friendliness. Hopefully, Iran's future will be one that allows its people to be happy again. And free.
Depends what you mean by freedom. If you mean living in a democracy....Iran has never been a proper democracy. Being happy? For some happiness is all about mosques and Spiritual leaders, for others its about the liberal western lifestyle. About the shah representing freedom. Yes some laws were more liberal but the biggest criticism he gets is that he was a puppet of america and showed the US had control over Iran during the 60s,70s.

I am very surprised how bad the flight was. I have flown with Iran Air myself and have always found the crew in particular to be very friendly and very hard-working. The atmosphere on board was always very special - very pleasant. Iranians are usually very friendly people and you can feel that as soon as you are on the plane. You didn't notice much of that in this film. Maybe people were irritated by the camera.

I don't understand all the people who feel the need in the comment section to talk about how wonderful Iran is and defend the country. This man is just giving a review on the airline, not the whole entire country of Iran. In many comments people say how amazingly friendly the people in the country are. Okay, that's great! However, this is a review of the airline food, service, and the airplane itself, not the locals in the country. Just because somebody was friendly to you doesn't mean they were friendly to this man, and so putting your experience up over his is very gaslighting. Also, I think it depends on what you look like. If you look like a foreigner, you might not get treated the same then if you look like you are Persian.
Before the revolution (in the 70s), Iran Air was one of the top airlines in the world, that even had orders placed on the Concorde. I would have liked to see how you got your passport back. 22 years ago when I traveled to Iran on my own they also kept my passport for more than an hour and I could see them scrutinizing it at length behind their office window. You probably attracted attention somehow. I looked like an Iranian in my headdress (which is compulsory) and kept being questioned in Persian (which I don't understand) by strange guys probably of the religious police up to the departure gate. Your crew were probably just being cautious to not be seen overly friendly with you (as a man & foreigner) because the religious stasi is everywhere.

About 15 years back or less, I did go through the same journey with Iran Air Business class (Teh-Lon O'Hare) and IMHO it was one the best experience I've ever had. VIP launch in the airport was cozy and comfortable with great food and drink selection (Of course except you know what), all complimentary. The plane wasn't this AB nor a 747 but very comfortable. The breakfast was started by serving Iran's famous Caviar on slices of boiled egg with a real silver custom-designed spoon, on a tray decorated with personalized natural fresh roses that smelled so well (I believe Ghamsar rose), and the hostess was as if she was only dedicated to our seats and our wellbeing! (Yes only a few people were in that cabin similar to yours). She was constantly looking at our welfare, and even invited us to visit the pilot's cabin and talk to the crews there! There was a time, a few decades ago, when travel to Iran, Iraq, Syria, even Afghanistan was relatively normal and pleasant. There was evidence of western modernization, women were being allowed some independence, access to education, starting businesses and so on. There was a genuine sense of hope, at least in some areas of those regimes . . . but that was then. How fragile all that was. Travel into any of those areas now is a risky proposition at best, if not entirely impossible for western travelers.
We as you mentioned during your flight a country with highest sanction implied on it. It should have a reward how on earth this airplane can still fly safely, in overall they could serve you with better breakfast since Iranian food usually well known but that is when your airline with tight budget and your ticket is very cheap for a business class relatively.
I bet if they weren't a sanctioned airline their cabin would be up to standard, the crew would be trained in good customer service and the food service itself would be upgraded. I agree with you on the coffee though, it tends to be rubbish across iran as a whole and I think it being a tea drinking nation should be no excuse for that. If your food is served piping hot, that is not a bad thing, all you need to do is wait for a minute. If the food had not been served piping hot you would have complained about the temperature not being hot enough like you did with the coffee. No mention of the fact that iran air gives a generous 30 kg luggage allowance even in economy. On the whole it seems you went into this review with a set of pre-formed opinions probably influenced by what you hear about iran in the US media. Could tell you are US based from the way you pronounced aluminium as aluminum. On the whole I think iran air deserves an award just for managing to keep operating despite years of unilateral US sanctions which have no basis in international law. I look forward to more objective and unbiased reviews from you in the future. Good luck with your travels.
I suggest you watch his review on Mahan Air from Dubai to Tehran where he speaks in detail very highly of the Iranian people. Also from his accent, he is clearly not from the US, even though that doesn't have anything to do with his review.
Wow you sounds so angry , he wasn’t harsh, and he said his critique in the most gentle manner one can imagine. But it’s true Iran is shit now, and has been absolutely shit since 1979. The Iranian people have been screwed and horribly manipulated and extremely been oppressed by a fanatic murderous terrorist Islamist entity of Khaminai. Trust me, talk to Iranian who manage to escape Iran and you will see how much they are yearning for their country to be free from that Islamist occupation of Khaminai since 1979, seriously just recently the Iranian regime executed a famous Rap singer just because of a few words in a song. How could that country, under such regime ever flourish or be part of the West? (West as it’s been prior to the Islamist quiet invasion , meaning around the 90s and early 2000s) . The Iranian know that if that regime doesn’t disappear they are fucked and trust me they beg the West to bring them back Democracy and Freedom, which the Iranian people deserve

I’ve been living in U.S. for over four decades with 5-6 trips to Iran for family visit. I have great interest in understanding and digging into differences of cultures, particularly between Americans and Iranians. For majority of Americans visiting Iran, despite all the sanctions and hardships, for many of them, experiencing Iranians human interaction is extremely addictive and pleasurable. That is why many of them regret for their first visit staying for a week. Then many of them plan their next visit for 3-4 weeks. And for some much longer. Many years ago an American writer (unfortunately I forgot his name) visited Iran during Rafsanjani’s presidency. I watched a host of the public TV nightly news asked him about Iranian people and their anti American sentiments. I’m paraphrasing what he said: “Imagine Martian aliens exist. With their space ship they circle Earth in order to find a good sample of human race to understand humen and for cultural exchanges.” Then he said: “I’m very certain they will select Iranian people for this interaction.”
Definitely interesting footage and an experience with Iran Air. The staff at Tehran airport definitely seemed a lot nicer than the cabin crew. I would say if you find another airline to Iran, take it lol

Hello, wanted to add some point of view as flight attendant. I work for a European company and mostly operate flights w European passengers but we also had a contract w Iraqi airways and I got to operate those flights as well. So let’s start with the seating. I understood that your boarding pass got rebooked to a different seat. The thing is, while boarding you want to keep things smooth and fast. I operate a 737-800 with a single narrow aisle. A lot of time what happens is that passengers sit wherever they want, or they ask you if they can sit at the overwing exits which has more leg room. But what happens is if somebody sits in a different seat than assigned, then when the passenger that has that seat comes, then there’s a problem, the whole aisle gets blocked, the whole boarding has to stop and this just prolongs the boarding. Sometime we have a CTOT which means time we have to take off or we will have to wait in line. So sometimes you just don’t have enough time to chit chat with every passengers be extremely polite despite them sitting at a random place they decided they like… but yes she could’ve been a little more nice with the “wait” and follow it with something like after the boarding is completed and the window seat stays empty, you can absolutely move there. Just to give you a view of the other side
So much chatter and very little sense. He originally HAD THAT WINDOW SEAT. Then it was changed without his knowledge by the check in agent. Why??? So now he boards and wonders why his seat is not the window seat he booked? So he asks to change it. And he gets grief from the dragon lady. He did not change his seat. They changed his seat.
Greetings from ARKANSAS!! It's definitely a different experience because of politics, laws, culture, etc which is the whole point of the adventure. I have to say my experience on Iran Air to Persia was quite amazing, impeccable, and enjoyable. I LOVE the food!!
@@FransceneJK98 you should watch some of the food Vloggers channels and see how well foreigners are treated there. "When in Rome, do as the Romans do". Each country has its own customs, dress codes and religious beliefs. I never try to apply western standards in countries I visit, especially the ones that have different cultural background from mine. Happy co-existence in humanity requires respect and acceptance from all parties. PS: The fact that their planes are "falling apart", is not really their wish or fault. We in the West have created this outcome...
I had a domestic Iran Air flight on an A300B4 in 2015 (THR-TBZ-THR) with a friendly and professional crew. Either standards have come down since then or it's a hit-or-miss... Indeed the security officer was a bit apprehensive initially (especially when I wanted to take photos inside the aircraft), but eventually I was even allowed to sit in the cockpit for landing in TBZ.
@@VirgilZandig He has a verified channel so it's not far-fetched. Many in Canada were saying the same thing about Hollywood going back to the '90s but were scoffed at...and now it's confirmed it is.
Great Video Josh. IIRC, Lufthansa does the same thing at their First Class Terminal with the passports, so passengers don´t have to go through the hassle of the passport control and can just enjoy themselves at the lounge. Was that the case here too?
you have got the whole thing wrong, they have been keeping the passports since the beginning of the Revolution in 1979, in the early eighties you had to drop the passport at least 24hrs prior your international flight, so the security agents from the government would have enough time to check your name to their database. Iran is not a democracy and normal rules of laws and respecting the rights of the citizens don't apply there. I haven't traveled back for over 30 years, but I see that some things have not changed a bit in more than 3 decades. Iran Air is is one of rudest airline operation out there, and they still hold your passport so they have enough time to run background check on everyone.

@@amirhosseinfalahati4388 I do wish you luck and I do see, as most are following what is happpening in Iran, today, the protests of people, especially women, and young women, facing the government and police regarding what is and what is not considered "moral" and we have all heard about the young woman who was taken away by the "morality police" and ended up dead...as well as other very young women who publicly criticized having to be forced to cover up who ended up dead. Their families say the government did it while the government says the young women I am talking about committed suicide. We see women, around the world, indeed in the United Nations, cutting off locks of their hair in solidarity with the women of Iran and the rights they are wiling to die for, in order to dance, not be forced to wear a chador if they do not want to...being forced into buses by police who brutalize them for having, simply, a hajab that they feel is not put on correctly....or what they believe to be correct. I was only a school boy when the Shah left Iran for NY to be in hospital as he was dying and what happened after he left and how the world changed for Iranians when the Ayatollah came into power. It saddened us all, seeing a free and progressive Iran go back 1000 years to a repressed and theocratic state. We are with the people of Iran...hoping that things will change and that the people of Iran will not be forced to do things they do not wish to and that they will be able to openly see what is happening in the world without fear of punishment or death. We do wish you the best. Let the religious amongst you practice the religion they wish to but let those who might question or doubt of not believe what others believe, be able to live openly without fearing for their lives. That is what I hope for, for everyone right now who is facing brutality...for whatever reason. Peace.
"There’s a feeling you get in an airport, especially before a flight that’s hard to explain". That! I think it has to do with the fact you go a dimension up, namely into the air and that you will go far away. With trainstations it is different, though checking in through customs when going to a different country sort of is special in its own way, like from Amsterdam to London where you also travel under the sea for a time, sitting to wait in a lounge and a guarded locked off platform. Security even check waist bins on the platform for nefarious stuff.
I am watching this immediately after watching the Mahan Air video & its amazing the difference between the two airlines seeing they are from the same country & I would imagine have similar sanctions. If I was ever flying to Iran I know which airline I would take. It is amazing that the plane that was over 30 years old looks to be in better condition than the plane which is less than 10 years in age (in regards to the cabins).

An Iranian wearing a tie is unheard of, that is amazing to see. I traveled there for 17 days in 1999, and it was absolutely wonderful. Iran is one of the most fascinating countries on Earth.
Iran Air used to be a nice airline pre-1979 and certainly pre-sanctions. The last time I flew on Iran Air was probably more than 20 years ago and the food was actually really nice although I did not enjoy the check-in and boarding process. The sanction has and continues to hurt the ordinary people of Iran, but also companies that would be serving the airline industry in Iran or any other businesses for that matter.

Although the Iran air have to use old plain because of sanction and it's not their problem, it's limitations that they cope with. I think the crew was pleasent and they couldn't flirt with you because they had some duties. by the way, at the first, you went to the mistake counter to get a ticket and they gave you specific individual transfer and guided you to the right place, which companies or airlines have don it before?
Not how planes work luckily., They can carry Full Passengers, Full Cargo + Full Fuel and still be able to take off. That applies to all Commercial planes, Only some Military planes with large bomb loads have to take off with like half fuel then refuel in middair as they are too heavy to take off with full tanks + bombload. Seats were empty as its business class on a trash airline that people only use if they have to
@@Triley215 You missed my point in reply to the OP. Planes dont remove passengers and cargo so they can take enough fuel for long trips as the OP stated. They are built so they can take Max passengers (all seats) Max full cargo bay and Max full fuel tanks and still take off. Landing weight is a different story.
@@tbas8741 but…they do. If a route is towards the route limit for a plane, and the wind changes direction to a way that’s not common (increasing the headwind) then the flight would either have to remove passengers, remove cargo, or make a stopover to refuel.

The first check-in agent was very friendly. When everyone is friendly in a service type company, it is more often than not, because of training and policy, but when someone is friendly in an environment that does not care or train their staff well, then that person is very special because they are real and their style of service is just part of their authentic personality.
Amazing story! Thanks for sharing and I agree with you, Iranians are wonderful people.
This is that kind of feedback I wanted to read

From Iran:
You the Americans are our brothers and sisters no matter how stupid both our governments are and the controlled media divides us.
@Ted Ching you don't understand. If you did then you wouldn't have to ask. Maybe it's not for you to understand. Did you ever think about that?

I never kept a precise record but I imagine I have easily passed the million air mile mark and have travelled with all the major international carriers - including the now impressive Middle Eastern and Asian Carriers - so this is actual experience not a thought bubble.
I can’t believe the airport driver asked you for tip! That’s dead cheeky that! He’d be in a massive problem if you’d have reported him to the airline and he surely knew that! That’s why he said to you that you’re a good friend just before you got off his car!

I've been on Iran Air, to Tehran. It was a very nice journey except over Turkey we experienced a lot of turbulace. I thought the plane was going to break. But the service inside was so nice. They kept bringing food, snacks drinks. The meals were so tasty.

@@alinaqirizvi1441 Partly true, why dont they look for better air though? Descending or Ascending can have good results.
He is just blantant lying
Not sure why you found the crew weird and hostile. You keep complaining about your boarding pass being changed to an aisle seat but we see you sitting next to a window in the middle of the plane just as you asked for in your first check in. If you landed at the wrong terminal that was not the airlines fault. I have flown on both lufthansa and iran air over ten times and my experience has been that the catering on iran air is better.

Sounds like bs

You’re right, from my own experience with their business lounge that was the case. They brought back my passport with the immigration’s exit stamp.
you have got the whole thing wrong, they have been keeping the passports since the beginning of the Revolution in 1979, in the early eighties you had to drop the passport at least 24hrs prior your international flight, so the security agents from the government would have enough time to check your name to their database.
When you talked about how much fuel they have to bring, it made sense why the front was empty for weight and balance for take off
Not how planes work luckily.,
They can carry Full Passengers, Full Cargo + Full Fuel and still be able to take off.
That applies to all Commercial planes, Only some Military planes with large bomb loads have to take off with like half fuel then refuel in middair as they are too heavy to take off with full tanks + bombload.
Seats were empty as its business class on a trash airline that people only use if they have to
@@tbas8741 there’s also a very restrictive weight limit for landing. I’d be more suspicious of that than the max takeoff weight

Planes dont remove passengers and cargo so they can take enough fuel for long trips as the OP stated.

Landing weight is a different story.
@@tbas8741 but…they do. If a route is towards the route limit for a plane, and the wind changes direction to a way that’s not common (increasing the headwind) then the flight would either have to remove passengers, remove cargo, or make a stopover to refuel.
