I've flown aeroflot, severstal/Rossiya airlines from Moscow to cherepovets back to Moscow twice in one year as a tourist from Australia. Easier for me as my girlfriend is Russian and knows all translation. Never had a problem at the airport, maybe because I need to attend the Russian embassy in Sydney to obtain my visa. St Petersburg is wonderful and my favourite Russian city
747 pilot here: It's normal to do type-I propylene glycol 'wings and tail' as we call it, when there isn't a large amount of contamination on the aircraft. It's a hot mix to remove localized contamination. When you need something more, as you referenced, you will use Type IV fluid, which provides ice prevention. You would want to do this, for example, if it was actively snowing. There is a bit more to it, but that is the basics.
I work with united in the states and this is correct. As a ramp agent we have a lot prep before the even pilots get to the aircraft like warming up the fluid and figuring out if we need one or both fuilds (I live in the south where it gets cold but not to where we need type IV). Now we do the full body spray per request of the captain. It's obviously different from the cockpit view to compared to the ramp side view but it all works hand and hand. It's a lot of work for a quick spray bug It's all about safety.
Different de-ice fluids , Type 1 , Type, 2 Type 4 does not have anything to do where you de-ice on the aircraft. I live in Scandinavia = a lot of snow & ice condition during winter. Every de-icing is unique. Current weather situation decides what de-icing is needed .You follow the "HOT charts" . HOT = Hold Over Time. 99% you do not spray the fuselage, only wings and tail= stab and fin. Maybe you need Type 4 for your HOT. First remove the snow and ice with Type 1. Then another go with Type 4. With Type 4 on the wings and tail you have enough time to taxi to the runway and take off even if it is snowing heavily.
And look at our subways in NYC, they are disgusting. Russia is NOT a bad country and the politics SEEM to be working. Poo Tin for president. I would take him in a heartbeat over our diaper wearing dementia patient.
I've just been to Uzbekistan. Their metro in Tashkent is very nice too. Every station has a different interior design. And, yes, clean and free from advertising. The trains are much the same stock as we saw on Josh's video, and you can see the Soviet contribution to the station design. No USB on the trains though.
I like that there's more of the places you visit in this Russia series compared to older videos. The blend of vlog and airline review works really well, especially for places not many people are able to visit (Russia for obvious reasons)
Jet engine issue your are correct I was a Navy pilot! Engine vibration is one of the important factors for aircraft to ensure flight safety. High Cycle fatigue with alternating stress caused by excessive vibration or resonance will accelerate parts damage, then make the structure failure, at last reduce the engine life.
This is a bit misleading. The airspace above the Baltic Sea is not totally "owned" by the countries around its coast. There's an international corridor(which is not under the control of anyone of those countries) like you pointed out and Russia or any other country can fly its planes through it without authorization. So it's not that they're "allowed to fly", any country *can* under international law fly through that corridor regardless.
@@JoshCahillcorrect but the route flies over international waters and not over territorial airspace. It's the same in the Atlantic ocean, Russian airliners continue to this day to overfly the Atlantic, controlled by European ATC, without prior authorization. They just can't overfly the countries themselves.
Russian planes(or any other plane) while flying over the Baltic Sea fly through several Air Defense Identification Zones(ADIZ) not territorial airspaces and usually as a courtesy and to avoid any confusion contact the ATC of the respective country. But the ADIZ(you can fly through the part over international waters) of a country is not the same as the territorial airspace of a country(forbidden to fly through without expressed permission). For example the ADIZ of Russia around Saint Petersbourg extends way into Finland's territory and Finnish jets of course can fly through it without Russian permission as long as they don't cross Russian *territorial airspace*. @@JoshCahill

I work as an ATCo in Saint-Petersburg, Russia,. as for your question how flights from Kaliningrad fly to Russia. All flights uses neutral waters as a route to St. Petersburg, where anyone can fly and ATC is provided like normal flights, just in this case ATC is free of charge for flights in neutral waters. After the airplane enters Russian airspace, it flies as usual on normal routes. It is impossible to prohibit flights in neutral waters, as it is a space that does not belong to anyone, but the country to which ICAO has entrusted this mission is responsible for ATC and should provide it always.
Can you give more details? Which ATC is in charge of those international waters? Are they international because they are greater than 12 nautical miles from any nation’s coast? Who pays for the ATC if it is given free? Thanks!
@@JO-nh6mo I was referring to the current reality of the use of neutral waters by Russian air carriers. Only a notification procedure is used to fly to Kaliningrad, no permits are requested and there are no fees. At the time when relations between Russia and the European Union were at an acceptable level, none of the civil airlines flew exclusively using neutral waters, so there is no description of the cost of such flights, perhaps when relations return to normal, Eurocontrol and the Russian state ATM company will surely discuss this point.

This is completely false. ATCO here in your hatred Baltics. International waters does mean only that they do not fall under sanctions and can fly their stolen aircraft there. Within a sometimes narrow corridor, not closer than 12NM from coastline. ATCO’s of FIR still provide normal services (+ additional bonus of armed fighter appearance in case of silent treatment) e.g. separation, probably sometimes shortcuts etc. Through Eurocontrol every russian company passing our FIRs pays according to tarrifs. With freakishly long delays, but pays. I am eagerly waiting for the day when in the middle of passing the NATO lake they declare mayday and ask for immediate landing. This will definitely be fun. Karma is a b*tch.
B737 pilot here. Just want to agree with 747 pilot comment. It’s all about the degree of snow&ice contamination on the aircraft and current weather and temperature. I fly extensively in Norway, obviously a winter country and we both deice and anti ice the aircraft depending on the situation. I could see on your video during your embarkation that there was some snow in the wing root and I was immediately curious about whether there would be some sort of deicing at least. Surely enough there was:) So it’s all about the degree of contamination and current weather. I’m not going to do a lecture about the whole thing here, but the airline made at least some necessary treatment based on my minimum observation of the current status. Ural is like a half low-cost airline, I am surprised they even have business class. However, all these problems and delays on that airline happened even without sanctions. As a Russian I haven't ever tried them and honestly don't want to. 5:29 Seoul subway also has USB and even wireless chargers in the trains :D Also Moscow metro didn't remove English language on ticket machines after February 2022, instead they did it much earlier, during the pandemic. The same thing happened with English announcements.
I think they added the english options in the metro for the world championship (or whatever that big sporting thing was circa 2018), and then they gradually disappeared afterwards.
The thing with Ural Airlines is that it was always like that, if you want to fly a Russian airline and get great service fly Aeroflot or S7. Ural airlines is kind of a scam and will just get you where-ever you need to be without any service. S7 has decent business class offering on their 737-800 and 320/321neos, service is incomparably better than Ural and seats are newer.
You are correct back then one can actually find East Asian passengers on S7 and Aeroflot because they are the only two in Russia to be in an Airline alliance. Sadly you cannot find S7 Priority Emerald tier in HKG🇭🇰 NRT/HND🇯🇵 KUL🇲🇾 Oneworld Alliance hubs of East Asia in the case of Aeroflot bonus go to these airports in East Asia PVG/SHA/XMN🇨🇳 TPE🇹🇼 ICN🇰🇷 and CGK due to their SkyTeam Elite Plus status suspended. If anyone plans on visiting Russia - it isn't all that hard to open a bank account, even if you are a foreigner. For most banks, you can apply online regardless of citizenship (as long as you have valid documents to be in Russia) and some (Tinkoff, for example) will even deliver the card to you for free.

My father is from Moscow, and my mother is from Saint Petersburg. And there is a real difference between people in Moscow and Saint Petersburg. Many international tourists prefer to name Moscow as London and Saint Petersburg as Paris and it really looks like. Moscow is more for business and government structures but St Petersburg is more for slow pace living and European style Baltic living

Worked with several Russians in a maintenance discipline and they were the nicest...and funniest people ever. Great workers as well. We all were eventually "promoted to customer" as the facility was shut down and all landed on our feet and feel fortunate that business failed, considering the present.
Hey Josh, I recently flew from Vladivostok to Moscow on Aeroflot B777, the plane was not sprayed, and the flight was 8 hours. Service in economy class was good. I love your videos thanks for your content. I recommended visit Vladivostok in the summer, there is beautiful nature there, but it's better not to think about the architecture , it's just terrible, although it has Russian Golden Gate Bridge)😁

Type 1 spray is on wings and tail only, if all you are doing is removing ice from the control surfaces. Type 1 might be put over the whole pane if there is snow covering the complete aircraft. Sometimes if it is loose powder snow as we get here in Calgary, Canada they might just spray air of it. Really depends on the snow type and if it has iced/bonded to the aircraft.. Type 2 is green and that stops snow build up on the wing surfaces as the plane taxis for take off. Type 2 is only put on the wings and control surfaces.
Point of correction my brother, they never removed English on any machines. English was never there on some machines, and is actually been added on new machines. I've been living in Moscow since 2015 and i can reliably tell you that no English was removed because of some war, that's a very misleading narative.
@@JoshCahill probably the machines that replaced the ones you use just didn't have English but one thing for sure no language is being suppressed or anything along those lines and I'm sure their English wasn't also sufficient enough to use the correct wording lol. Now all new machines being installed have options for a number of languages and not just English even in banks. Even their university websites most of them now have English comparing to how it was back in 2015. I have a question for you, did you notice any difference in how Russian pilots handle planes compared to other countries in terms of banking angles, steep climbs and speed. You should try S7 I hear it's one crazy airline lol. I like your videos by the way, big fan.
Actually, the Saint Petersburg is colder than Moscow, so I just think when you were in Moscow, the ° was lower, and when you were in Petersburg, it's Vice versa. Because of humidity, Petersburg is always colder in winter and hotter in summer,so it's just lucky you

We all appreciate your sacrifices Josh , -20c now that’s what I call cold . A friend of mine who flew to Russia many years ago to visit his Russian girlfriend said the same thing about the residents of Moscow . He fly with his girlfriend from Moscow to Ekaterinburg but the turboprop aircraft he was on ran low on fuel and landed in a paddock from which he and his girlfriend had to find there own way from that point , fortunately his girlfriend knew how to get home from there and some hours later , many buses and a fair bit of walking they got home . They are now married, have 2 kids and live in Perth Western Australia.

Moscow is Europe, everything from Urals to west is Europe. So there are hundreds of Russian flights allowed in Europe. European Union has banned Russian flights from European Union airspace. EU is only a small part of Europe. Just as USA is not North America and even smaller part of Americas (North and South).

I flew a Il-62M from Stockholm to St Petersburg by the fall of the iron curtain. Lovely people in St Petersburg back then. On my way back we flew to Oslo before flying to Stockholm. It was.... different. The Il-62M felt like it was the earth curvature that dissapeared below it more than it actually gained altitude. 😅 thanks for a lovely video
Before the war, entering Russia was always easy (scan, stamp, and you're out) but the tough part was the exit at passport control. They go through your passport like crazy for a good 2 minutes and then you're stamped out.
Flying around the Baltics greatly increases the price from Moscow to Kaliningrad. Moscow- Riga used to be less than 100 euros for a 400 mile flight. Helsini-Riga and Riga-Vilnius are still around 50 euros.
When I worked on cruise ships, we overnighted in St. Petersburg and it was amazing. Not necessarily the warmest people but I met some very nice locals and we talked and laughed a lot. Amazing architecture. Very sad to see what’s going on, for all of the people on both sides. Like you said, you can’t blame everyone for the actions of their government. I think that’s true no matter what country it is. Safe travels.
5:20 - The Helsinki metro has built in USB chargers on their metro, trains and buses! Public transport here is on another level compared to my previous country.

Doesn’t matter, Russian airlines or foreign, for example Turkish, Emirates, Etihad…We usually spray fuselage and nose, than aircraft long time parked on stand (night, 2 days, week, month)
Ural Airlines is one of a kind here, you far from the only one who got their flight cancelled/delayed flying Ural. In fact, in January this year, only 1 flight out of 25 departured on time from the airport in Omsk(Siberian city). Our aviation struggles, but this one is just horrible.
Hi, ATCO from Scandinavia here. There are certain letters of agreement between different air traffic management areas such as Sweden and Russia/Kaliningrad here. Be assured that your flight is indeed handled by Scandinavian ATC, and it's considered legal as, like you said, the flight goes outside of EU sovereign airspace.
Ural was sketchy even b4 sanctions. I do fly a lot on my business trips, and it was always a rule of thumb to prefer aeroflot/s7 when possible, since they have a larger fleet and cancelations was a rare situation. Right now it is kind of interesting since S7 took a bigger hit out of russian big two since they optimized their fleet to mostly rely on one combination of aircraft and engines and that is airbus + PW and out of all engines PW's are the ones that none of current russia's partners can repair. S7 do proper regular maintenance but they had to shrink their fleet and now there are cancelations here and there, while they try to optimize their flight map to prefer siberian routes
I don't think it was cancelled at the time when you arrived to the airport. Due to problems in aviation lately we always check the airport's online flight table to make sure the plane is actually going to depart before leaving home. That's mostly useful because of delays that happen from time to time: you check the online departure table, see that there's a delay (because plane had a delay previously flying out from another country) and stay home a little longer instead of spending many time uncomfortably at the airrpot
and in terms of cash: can be right can be wrong but Chinese union pay works in many places there. ofc you need cash with you but still it might be possible for you to obtain union pay card and use it here
and in terms of engine's vibration: yeeah i definitely noticed it too flying lately. wasn't a thing in the past and mostly occurs on the older jets. Might have the same reason there's a vibration on idle in older cars (where engine mounts may be worn out and it is not economically viable to replace these) - it can be fixed but it is not necessary and quite expensive/parts are unobtainable so they run it as is.
Regarding ‘thermal’ base layers - you should try Icebreaker merino wool - light and warm and breathable. You’ll forget you’re wearing them. I’m from the northern most city of Canada. 🥶It’s a worthwhile investment of my time to watch your videos. Interesting and entertaining. Informative too, sometimes.
Ramp agent here, so usually when deicing there are two MAIN types of fluids used, type I and type IV, type I is only used for deicing and getting snow off, and type 4 is for keeping snow off for a short period of time, depending on the SOP of the airline, type 1 can be sprayed on only wings and tail, or full body, in this case I assume they just requested type 1 wings and tail meaning that's all they spray to get residual snow off
Flights from America to Korea, Japan, and other nearby countries have also been rerouted to avoid Russian airspace. My friend recently flew Korean airlines from nyc to Seoul and looking at the route I was suddenly reminded it was the exact same as what flight 007 was SUPPOSED to be that was shot down after getting lost in USSR's airspace in 1983. It's almost like we're back to the cold war era. Her flight was delayed so I made a joke to her "tell the pilot you're late for your layover and to instead proceed forward over Kamchatka to save time" 😅

As an employee of aeroflot group, i am a little into russian airlines atmosphere :) Rerarding Ural, they supposed to inform your agency or yourself at leaast by email, double-check itz just in case... But yes,i think u r into.... let's say,coming to a compensation. They moved you from one flight to another and left you with no meals. I would suggest to ctc them. One more important thing, you would better try s7 airlines - the serious competitor to all the others, supported by government. It's a shame that the victims of the sanctions are just normal people like you and I. Why punish the people of a country for something they can't rlly change? I mostly dont have an issue with car manufacturers and shops not selling their goods, but when it comes to aviation(like not delivering spare parts nd stuff), i'd say thats a few steps too far. Cus at that point you are mainly endagering innocent civilians' lives.. I wish any Russians that watch this the best of luck tho.
Josh - regarding de-icing procedures, to my knowledge de-icing depends very much on standing hours before flight, f.ex. overnight or just landed and actual temperature. After snowfall, normally you de-ice the complete aircraft while with low temperatures only wings are most exposed to icing. I experienced once in Stockholm that my prop aircraft had to return after a longer waiting for takeoff after de-icing as their de-icing fluid was only validated for 45 min to start which they obviously exceeded.
ATC controller here. I am not based nearby around Kaliningrad but: Basically we all want all aircrafts to take off, navigate to their destination and land safely and thats our upmost priority, no matter where aircraft is coming from, where is it going to and from what country does it come from . The flying path to and from Kaliningrad was strictly indicated by IACO and every flight has to follow the path and procedures within the agreement. As we know European Air Space s closed to flights to and from Russia meanwhile we can not cease and delegalise domestic flights within the country which is banned from EASA. As far as i know the first section of your flight to St Petersburg is being navigated by Gdansk Airport EPGD until its being connected to Stockholm for the most of its flight over Baltic Sea. Then Helsinki EFHK tooks over to navigate it through Gulf of Finland then, once the aircraft leaves European Air Space thats it. Russians take over and we don't really know what happens next.
I flew on a Sukhoi Superjet from Edinburgh to Brussels a few years ago when Brussels Airlines used them on the route .. I was in seat 1A ... It was very noisy with the generator or whatever it was by my feet ... Not the best flight but a type of aircraft that not many folk will fly on unless they go to Russia ...

I've just been to Uzbekistan. Their metro in Tashkent is very nice too. Every station has a different interior design. And, yes, clean and free from advertising. The trains are much the same stock as we saw on Josh's video, and you can see the Soviet contribution to the station design. No USB on the trains though.
Metro in every other City could do this too, but then Ticket prices would probably double

Jet engine issue your are correct I was a Navy pilot! Engine vibration is one of the important factors for aircraft to ensure flight safety. High Cycle fatigue with alternating stress caused by excessive vibration or resonance will accelerate parts damage, then make the structure failure, at last reduce the engine life.

This is a bit misleading. The airspace above the Baltic Sea is not totally "owned" by the countries around its coast. There's an international corridor(which is not under the control of anyone of those countries) like you pointed out and Russia or any other country can fly its planes through it without authorization. So it's not that they're "allowed to fly", any country *can* under international law fly through that corridor regardless.
It’s controlled by European ATC and partially the route goes through their airspace as well.

It's the same in the Atlantic ocean, Russian airliners continue to this day to overfly the Atlantic, controlled by European ATC, without prior authorization. They just can't overfly the countries themselves.
Russian planes(or any other plane) while flying over the Baltic Sea fly through several Air Defense Identification Zones(ADIZ) not territorial airspaces and usually as a courtesy and to avoid any confusion contact the ATC of the respective country. But the ADIZ(you can fly through the part over international waters) of a country is not the same as the territorial airspace of a country(forbidden to fly through without expressed permission). For example the ADIZ of Russia around Saint Petersbourg extends way into Finland's territory and Finnish jets of course can fly through it without Russian permission as long as they don't cross Russian *territorial airspace*. @@JoshCahill

I work as an ATCo in Saint-Petersburg, Russia,. as for your question how flights from Kaliningrad fly to Russia. All flights uses neutral waters as a route to St. Petersburg, where anyone can fly and ATC is provided like normal flights, just in this case ATC is free of charge for flights in neutral waters. After the airplane enters Russian airspace, it flies as usual on normal routes.
It is impossible to prohibit flights in neutral waters, as it is a space that does not belong to anyone, but the country to which ICAO has entrusted this mission is responsible for ATC and should provide it always.
Could you please quote the source in AIP or AIP SUP referring to the "free of charge" transit through a FIR ?
Can you give more details? Which ATC is in charge of those international waters? Are they international because they are greater than 12 nautical miles from any nation’s coast? Who pays for the ATC if it is given free? Thanks!

I was referring to the current reality of the use of neutral waters by Russian air carriers. Only a notification procedure is used to fly to Kaliningrad, no permits are requested and there are no fees. At the time when relations between Russia and the European Union were at an acceptable level, none of the civil airlines flew exclusively using neutral waters, so there is no description of the cost of such flights, perhaps when relations return to normal, Eurocontrol and the Russian state ATM company will surely discuss this point.

This is completely false. ATCO here in your hatred Baltics. International waters does mean only that they do not fall under sanctions and can fly their stolen aircraft there. Within a sometimes narrow corridor, not closer than 12NM from coastline. ATCO’s of FIR still provide normal services (+ additional bonus of armed fighter appearance in case of silent treatment) e.g. separation, probably sometimes shortcuts etc. Through Eurocontrol every russian company passing our FIRs pays according to tarrifs. With freakishly long delays, but pays. I am eagerly waiting for the day when in the middle of passing the NATO lake they declare mayday and ask for immediate landing. This will definitely be fun. Karma is a b*tch.
B737 pilot here. Just want to agree with 747 pilot comment. It’s all about the degree of snow&ice contamination on the aircraft and current weather and temperature. I fly extensively in Norway, obviously a winter country and we both deice and anti ice the aircraft depending on the situation. I could see on your video during your embarkation that there was some snow in the wing root and I was immediately curious about whether there would be some sort of deicing at least. Surely enough there was:) So it’s all about the degree of contamination and current weather. I’m not going to do a lecture about the whole thing here, but the airline made at least some necessary treatment based on my minimum observation of the current status. Ural is like a half low-cost airline, I am surprised they even have business class. However, all these problems and delays on that airline happened even without sanctions. As a Russian I haven't ever tried them and honestly don't want to.

Also Moscow metro didn't remove English language on ticket machines after February 2022, instead they did it much earlier, during the pandemic. The same thing happened with English announcements.
I think they added the english options in the metro for the world championship (or whatever that big sporting thing was circa 2018), and then they gradually disappeared afterwards.

The thing with Ural Airlines is that it was always like that, if you want to fly a Russian airline and get great service fly Aeroflot or S7. Ural airlines is kind of a scam and will just get you where-ever you need to be without any service.
S7 has decent business class offering on their 737-800 and 320/321neos, service is incomparably better than Ural and seats are newer.
You are correct back then one can actually find East Asian passengers on S7 and Aeroflot because they are the only two in Russia to be in an Airline alliance. Sadly you cannot find S7 Priority Emerald tier in HKG🇭🇰 NRT/HND🇯🇵 KUL🇲🇾 Oneworld Alliance hubs of East Asia in the case of Aeroflot bonus go to these airports in East Asia PVG/SHA/XMN🇨🇳 TPE🇹🇼 ICN🇰🇷 and CGK due to their SkyTeam Elite Plus status suspended. Key reason for it the Ukrainian War

If anyone plans on visiting Russia - it isn't all that hard to open a bank account, even if you are a foreigner. For most banks, you can apply online regardless of citizenship (as long as you have valid documents to be in Russia) and some (Tinkoff, for example) will even deliver the card to you for free.

My father is from Moscow, and my mother is from Saint Petersburg. And there is a real difference between people in Moscow and Saint Petersburg. Many international tourists prefer to name Moscow as London and Saint Petersburg as Paris and it really looks like. Moscow is more for business and government structures but St Petersburg is more for slow pace living and European style Baltic living

Worked with several Russians in a maintenance discipline and they were the nicest...and funniest people ever. Great workers as well.
We all were eventually "promoted to customer" as the facility was shut down and all landed on our feet and feel fortunate that business failed, considering the present.

Hey Josh, I recently flew from Vladivostok to Moscow on Aeroflot B777, the plane was not sprayed, and the flight was 8 hours. Service in economy class was good. I love your videos thanks for your content. I recommended visit Vladivostok in the summer, there is beautiful nature there, but it's better not to think about the architecture , it's just terrible, although it has Russian Golden Gate Bridge)😁
I came back on the A350 absolutely great service. I think for the sanctions imposed Russia has done pretty well. A month ago they paid back some leassors

Type 1 spray is on wings and tail only, if all you are doing is removing ice from the control surfaces. Type 1 might be put over the whole pane if there is snow covering the complete aircraft. Sometimes if it is loose powder snow as we get here in Calgary, Canada they might just spray air of it. Really depends on the snow type and if it has iced/bonded to the aircraft..
Type 2 is green and that stops snow build up on the wing surfaces as the plane taxis for take off. Type 2 is only put on the wings and control surfaces.
Point of correction my brother, they never removed English on any machines. English was never there on some machines, and is actually been added on new machines. I've been living in Moscow since 2015 and i can reliably tell you that no English was removed because of some war, that's a very misleading narative.

@@JoshCahill probably the machines that replaced the ones you use just didn't have English but one thing for sure no language is being suppressed or anything along those lines and I'm sure their English wasn't also sufficient enough to use the correct wording lol. Now all new machines being installed have options for a number of languages and not just English even in banks. Even their university websites most of them now have English comparing to how it was back in 2015. I have a question for you, did you notice any difference in how Russian pilots handle planes compared to other countries in terms of banking angles, steep climbs and speed. You should try S7 I hear it's one crazy airline lol. I like your videos by the way, big fan.

What an amazing video! I knew that Moscow metro is like a huge underground museum, but I didn't expect it to be so clean, without any ads on the walls and stuff like that. And the streets as well. I would be afraid to walk outside in my area at 5 am, but from the looks of it your morning walk to the metro looked pretty safe!

I've been to Moscow 5 times now, and I always feel safer walking around there at night than in my own city.

A friend of mine who flew to Russia many years ago to visit his Russian girlfriend said the same thing about the residents of Moscow .
He fly with his girlfriend from Moscow to Ekaterinburg but the turboprop aircraft he was on ran low on fuel and landed in a paddock from which he and his girlfriend had to find there own way from that point , fortunately his girlfriend knew how to get home from there and some hours later , many buses and a fair bit of walking they got home .
They are now married, have 2 kids and live in Perth Western Australia.

De-icing is mostly done for the wings, rudders, stabilisers, and elevators as these are important moving parts which can be dangerous if ice builds up

Moscow is Europe, everything from Urals to west is Europe. So there are hundreds of Russian flights allowed in Europe. European Union has banned Russian flights from European Union airspace. EU is only a small part of Europe. Just as USA is not North America and even smaller part of Americas (North and South).

I flew a Il-62M from Stockholm to St Petersburg by the fall of the iron curtain. Lovely people in St Petersburg back then. On my way back we flew to Oslo before flying to Stockholm. It was.... different. The Il-62M felt like it was the earth curvature that dissapeared below it more than it actually gained altitude. 😅 thanks for a lovely video

Before the war, entering Russia was always easy (scan, stamp, and you're out) but the tough part was the exit at passport control. They go through your passport like crazy for a good 2 minutes and then you're stamped out.
Flying around the Baltics greatly increases the price from Moscow to Kaliningrad. Moscow- Riga used to be less than 100 euros for a 400 mile flight. Helsini-Riga and Riga-Vilnius are still around 50 euros.
Not at all because this route is subsided and have train alternative(Russia - EU transit treaty).
When I worked on cruise ships, we overnighted in St. Petersburg and it was amazing. Not necessarily the warmest people but I met some very nice locals and we talked and laughed a lot. Amazing architecture.

Doesn’t matter, Russian airlines or foreign, for example Turkish, Emirates, Etihad…We usually spray fuselage and nose, than aircraft long time parked on stand (night, 2 days, week, month)

Ural Airlines is one of a kind here, you far from the only one who got their flight cancelled/delayed flying Ural. In fact, in January this year, only 1 flight out of 25 departured on time from the airport in Omsk(Siberian city). Our aviation struggles, but this one is just horrible.

Hi, ATCO from Scandinavia here. There are certain letters of agreement between different air traffic management areas such as Sweden and Russia/Kaliningrad here. Be assured that your flight is indeed handled by Scandinavian ATC, and it's considered legal as, like you said, the flight goes outside of EU sovereign airspace.
Ural was sketchy even b4 sanctions. I do fly a lot on my business trips, and it was always a rule of thumb to prefer aeroflot/s7 when possible, since they have a larger fleet and cancelations was a rare situation.
Right now it is kind of interesting since S7 took a bigger hit out of russian big two since they optimized their fleet to mostly rely on one combination of aircraft and engines and that is airbus + PW and out of all engines PW's are the ones that none of current russia's partners can repair. S7 do proper regular maintenance but they had to shrink their fleet and now there are cancelations here and there, while they try to optimize their flight map to prefer siberian routes

I don't think it was cancelled at the time when you arrived to the airport. Due to problems in aviation lately we always check the airport's online flight table to make sure the plane is actually going to depart before leaving home. That's mostly useful because of delays that happen from time to time: you check the online departure table, see that there's a delay (because plane had a delay previously flying out from another country) and stay home a little longer instead of spending many time uncomfortably at the airrpot
and in terms of cash: can be right can be wrong but Chinese union pay works in many places there. ofc you need cash with you but still it might be possible for you to obtain union pay card and use it here
and in terms of engine's vibration: yeeah i definitely noticed it too flying lately. wasn't a thing in the past and mostly occurs on the older jets. Might have the same reason there's a vibration on idle in older cars (where engine mounts may be worn out and it is not economically viable to replace these) - it can be fixed but it is not necessary and quite expensive/parts are unobtainable so they run it as is.
5:20 Well my trains here in Germany usually have them or even full-blown up to 80W outlets. Even some buses have USB-slots.
6:20 you got to Domodedovo metro station from Paveletskaya and they took a bus to airport, but could use Aeroexpress train from Paveletskaya station

Ramp agent here, so usually when deicing there are two MAIN types of fluids used, type I and type IV, type I is only used for deicing and getting snow off, and type 4 is for keeping snow off for a short period of time, depending on the SOP of the airline, type 1 can be sprayed on only wings and tail, or full body, in this case I assume they just requested type 1 wings and tail meaning that's all they spray to get residual snow off
Also type IV is thicker and made to stick to the aircraft but then sheer off upon takeoff

Flights from America to Korea, Japan, and other nearby countries have also been rerouted to avoid Russian airspace. My friend recently flew Korean airlines from nyc to Seoul and looking at the route I was suddenly reminded it was the exact same as what flight 007 was SUPPOSED to be that was shot down after getting lost in USSR's airspace in 1983. It's almost like we're back to the cold war era.

Great video for those of us interested in Russia but for obvious reasons, don’t want to fly there right now, especially being a US American. Some day, I’d love to see Moscow and St. Petersburg. I also love their incredible architecture and metro adornments. Thanks, Josh!

Rerarding Ural, they supposed to inform your agency or yourself at leaast by email, double-check itz just in case... But yes,i think u r into.... let's say,coming to a compensation. They moved you from one flight to another and left you with no meals. I would suggest to ctc them.
One more important thing, you would better try s7 airlines - the serious competitor to all the others, supported by government. They take 2nd place in russia,but the are on their own for a long time, my respect. I think, you could be well entertained here, in both classes:, j and y.

It's a shame that the victims of the sanctions are just normal people like you and I. Why punish the people of a country for something they can't rlly change?
I mostly dont have an issue with car manufacturers and shops not selling their goods, but when it comes to aviation(like not delivering spare parts nd stuff), i'd say thats a few steps too far. Cus at that point you are mainly endagering innocent civilians' lives..

Josh - regarding de-icing procedures, to my knowledge de-icing depends very much on standing hours before flight, f.ex. overnight or just landed and actual temperature. After snowfall, normally you de-ice the complete aircraft while with low temperatures only wings are most exposed to icing. I experienced once in Stockholm that my prop aircraft had to return after a longer waiting for takeoff after de-icing as their de-icing fluid was only validated for 45 min to start which they obviously exceeded.
For your question about any metro in the world with a usb charger- Merseyrail have metro trains with usb chargers and wifi (this is Liverpool)
Quick Google search spits out many cities where public transportation (including metro) has that.

I am not based nearby around Kaliningrad but: Basically we all want all aircrafts to take off, navigate to their destination and land safely and thats our upmost priority, no matter where aircraft is coming from, where is it going to and from what country does it come from . The flying path to and from Kaliningrad was strictly indicated by IACO and every flight has to follow the path and procedures within the agreement. As we know European Air Space s closed to flights to and from Russia meanwhile we can not cease and delegalise domestic flights within the country which is banned from EASA. As far as i know the first section of your flight to St Petersburg is being navigated by Gdansk Airport EPGD until its being connected to Stockholm for the most of its flight over Baltic Sea. Then Helsinki EFHK tooks over to navigate it through Gulf of Finland then, once the aircraft leaves European Air Space thats it. Russians take over and we don't really know what happens next.

I flew on a Sukhoi Superjet from Edinburgh to Brussels a few years ago when Brussels Airlines used them on the route .. I was in seat 1A ... It was very noisy with the generator or whatever it was by my feet ... Not the best flight but a type of aircraft that not many folk will fly on unless they go to Russia ...
