5:23 Turns out that the 1 time stellar stab on original stab (Incineraor's Fire Move) is x2 (boosted from x1.5 - The same as a fire tera)
But its other type moves (bug, normal, etc) only get a x1.2 stab.
It's kind of bizarre how complex this mechanic is. It's confusing everyone.
Make a pure new type not a new tera type please Nintendo
How does it work in cases of a Pokemon that can change Type mid-battle? Do they get the higher boost for their new Type?
I don't know the exact data but it seems to me that they do.
So this new Tera type benefits coverage and using different moves as a fight goes on, non choiced attackers would benefit the most based on coverage
@@SakuraiHikari15yeah they probably do take the new type into consideration, but only the type it has in the moment, like how stabs work.
Something not mentioned is that the "stab once per type" does NOT apply in raids. You continue to gain Stellar's all type stab bonus regardless of how many times you use a certain type
Couple that with a Contrary Serperior with Leaf Storm, after three of them, you get +6 Special Attack, STAB, _and_ double damage against Terastalized opponents!
Technically it is mentioned since the raid pokemon is terastilzed and he mentioned that you always hit super effective on those.
@@Drjos Not exactly; super effective moves and STAB moves aren't the same.
@@Drjos That's specifically when using Stellar Tera Blast.
This makes Stellar great for raids where you want to attack with a type that would be terrible defensively for that raid. Like the Iron Bundle if you wanted to use Tera Rock type, good vs. ice, terrible defensively vs. Hydro Pump.
Fun fact, there are 50 Stellar Tera Shards, an Ability Patch, and a Gold Bottle Cap on top of the big green ball at the very top of the terrarium.
SOMEONE didn't finish the video lol
I didn't finish the video either lol
Guessing when you unlock flying you just go up there to get them? Also this is a cool discovery
Thanks for the fact. I also did not finish the video it was getting boring halfway through.
Bro got roasted by Austin John himself lol
Just to make sure everyone knows, Terapagos is unique. It retains the damage bonus for the entire time its terastallized, not only for the first move of that type
So Terapagos is the only one its actually useful on.
huh i thought this only worked in raids, good to know
@@jonathangoodwin5609 it's great on Arceus for raid builds, covers all types, stab and you get the infinite damage boost in raids
@@jonathangoodwin5609it’s also useful for raids battle cuz all Mons will remain bonus. But competitive wise yes, it’s situational
@@jonathangoodwin5609 Technically it's not useful on Terapagos. It is mandatory on Terapagos.
Arceus
Ability: Multitype
Tera Type: Stellar
EVs: 252 HP / 252 SpA / 4 SpD
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Judgment
- Acid Spray
- Recover
- Calm Mind
This Arceus is great in 6 star raids. Using plates you can guarantee good matchups and stellar allows for shields to be destroyed easier, whereas before Arceus was good but struggled using Tera normal against shields (yes you could use other Tera types, but no one would get 18 Arceus or change Tera type every raid)
OH I LIKE THIS
my Raid Arceus was NOT helpful remaining normal lol
this was my arceus build in every category. Sometimes i swap Calm Mind out for Cosmic Power just to get more defenses so i dont need to use recover or cheers as much, regardless of what you use, this dude shreds raids.
Just used this against a 6 star avalugg with poison tera had earth plate (but without the stellar tera type) but it works
Is arceus available now with Indigo disk or is it just a Trade in?
Can confirm this. This Arceus just destroys 6 star raids.
Maybe I just missed it but two things to note from serebii:
1. In tera raids the once per type does not apply, all moves retain the 20%/100% boost for the entire raid while terastalized.
2. Terapagos ignores the once per type feature of this terra type, it also permanently retains the 20%/100% boost for as long as it's terastalized.
There is ONE other advantage for Raids: Defensively, you can retain dual typing when Terastallizing. I don't know how many times I've been in a Raid where I Terastallized and then realized I just made myself vulnerable to something in my opponents move pool. No longer an issue if they're Stellar Tera, and you get the unlimited Tera bonus!
Offensively stellar tera is good, but defensively it's not that great because if you're a garchomp stellar you'll still be 4x weak to ice type attacks
Contrary Serperior was already absurd but now it has a new mechanic it can exploit
I was wondering about that....snivy is my favorite starter.
contrary enamorus
So, contrary ability is broken.....
Wdym?
If it doesn't go down due to it's rather low def. stats than pretty much.
I used it now in I guess 10 or 15 Online Battles and it's pretty fun to use when it stays alive lol.
(Okay, I'm not really good at competitive, maybe that's why it goes down every second-third battle)
Love that they called the new Tera type Stellar. I had a Pixilate Sylveon with perfect stats and the Unrivaled mark and named it Stella way before Indigo Disk released. As soon as I saw it I knew I had to make my Stella even more stellar 😂
i named my iron bundle ‘bb’ a year ago and was disappointed that it didn’t get a ‘bb league champion’ mark after beating kieran
Is your Sylveon from the Eevee raid event? Because that's the only way it can have the unrivaled mark. I was confused at first but realized that it could be the Eevee from the raid
same!! my stella is a shiny ribbon master i bred wayyy back in Emerald
Ah I have a shiny pixilate sylveon named Stella as well.
I swore I heard in game from the person who explains Stellar shards are that it works 1 time in the overworld battles but in Tera Raids it gets unlimited uses on all the moves.
It is actually a tip that shows up afterthe credits.
@@-en_x3 "in game", like I said, Briar who gives u the Briar's book explains that during Tera Raid battles it's unlimited uses but outside of Tera Raid battles it's once per typing.
See this is what I mean. Austin John is one of the most helpful people in the Pokémon community ever. Thank you so much Austin for always pushing out videos that help so many people!!!
Sky Form Shaymin and Espathra also deserve special mentions for Stellar Tera raid strats since their signature moves are basically OP versions of Acid Spray, which support everyone in the lobby unlike the Contrary mons. They also have reliable recovery moves so you don't have to use Shell Bell.
Fun fact, before the terapagos battle you get 50 stellar shards, so technically you can exit and change one of your pokemon to stellar type and beat terapagos with it
“The Azure flute is too confusing for players”
According to Serebii, if you use a move thats Stab along with stellar you get a x2 boost. I think this aligns tge original stab and tera type matching
Seems to me this will be most useful in raids, since the buff is always active in raids and not once-per-type.
It will let you run dual type pokemon and keep your normal dual-type resists (can sometimes be very important) as well as getting tera boost on both your STAB types instead of just one.
For one example off the top of my head, my Krookodile has a good handful of raid pokemon it completely walls with Dark / Ground typing, but usually once I tera I lose some of my ability to wall those same pokemon, which can make some raids tricky since you have to choose between keeping your defense by not going tera or getting your damage boost to the shield. Now I can keep my type and walling capabilities in-tact while also getting tera boosts, and on both Earthquake and Power Trip instead of just Power Trip.
Of course, sometimes you don't want to keep your dual typing in a raid, so it'll still be a case-by-case basis, not just slap it on every dual type pokemon. And throwing Stellar type on dozens of pokemon isn't going to be cheap either.
That's true because some pokemon like swampert (4x weak to grass), or garchomp (4x weak to ice) shouldn't use stellar tera because they keep the 4x weakness plus gain a weakness to stellar
This was so weird to me so I’m so glad someone is explaining it. Thanks as always Austin John!
9:02 as soon as you mentioned the Tera blast stage drop I wondered if contrary worked. Good to know it does.
So glad that Malamar finally has a really good niche other than walling incineroar in vgc
he REALLY needed it
I think that Stellar type is a good idea for making tera more unpredictable, which seems good ❤
Offensively it's good because stellar tera blast is super effective against all pokemon that are terastalized regardless of type, but defensively it's bad because you keep your regular type weakness. So a garchomp would still be weak to grass, water, dragon, fairy, 4x weak to ice, and it gains a weakness to stellar type
11:40 Austin's New Jerseyan is seeping out
I might have missed this detail in this video but in raids the one use 1.2× damage boost doesn't go away, even if you have used the move.
Thanks so much for always cooking up these amazing vids I would be totally lost without them!😅
Are just gonna innore the fact terrapgos is in a masterball
I would also like to point out that the stellar type boost in tera raids is actually infinite instead of just once per type. Only in the raids though.
I was hesitant to watch this cause I haven't actually finished the story dlc, but Austin John got us covered without spoilers cause he's a LEGEND ❤
You’re one of the view RUclipsrs I watch where I actively go out of my way to not block every single add so you get more revenue.
Thanks for the great content my dude
this conveniently was uploaded when i searched up stuff about the stellar tera type, nice!
Love Lurantis, so excited to use it on a bunch of raids now.
From a competitive standpoint, Terapagos will be the Stellar you see 95% of the time.
700 base stat total, massive bulk, and a 120 Base Power STAB move that cannot be resisted by any type makes it the obvious "click good button" mon. You'll be seeing this guy next to Amoongus, and you'll be seeing fighting types running Safety Goggles calcing just how much it takes to get through Max Defense, Max HP Terapagos.
Focus Band, Swords Dance and Speed Boost Blaziken has entered the chat.
@@dtell3424 Tera Starstorm becomes a Stellar Type spread move. It cannot be resisted or immuned by any means.
Biggest issue with comp Enamerous is availability. Not only can you only get it from PLA, but the way you obtain it is once per save, so EV/IV training and modification is a pain.
Not sure if a DLC feature has solved this problem.
EV can be reset with EV reducing berrys or a white mochi from the Kitakami DLC. IVs can be hyper trained. Natures you can use mints. The only thing you can't do is you cant get a IV stat of 0 so you can't use it for trick room teams.
@@maverickckj Sweeet! Little annoying this stuff is in DLC, that’s the way it always is.
@@tomjames9681 They used to be in $60 full priced sequels with less than 20 changes in the whole game. Personally I think cheaper dlcs are more ethical than Ultra Scarlet & Ultra Violet
@@KazeSenseii At least then you could wait for the sequel and get the complete game. Now it costs you the base game and DLC cost.
My point is putting competitive quality of life changes behind a pay wall is garbage, full stop.
@@tomjames9681 the only thing not available in base is the White Mochi. everything else maverickckj mentioned is in base game...
And here i was thinking focus energy + razor claw. I was using that combo on Duraludon through the dlc
8:19 I also used stellar terra blast on my contrary serpeiror which is nice because along with leaf storm stellar terra blast lowers stats but it raises them in this case, also it’s good for raids
Ive built an arceus with Stellar tera, since I can change its type at will with the plates, stellar allows me to always have a tera boosted judgment
The terapagos with max health max spa with leftovers is also an immortal beast in tera raids: So if you solo, just set up calm minds. Or in group you can use cheers and just nuke them.
I misunderstood what Stellar Teratype did. I thought it was a boost to every move but if you had like say two fire type attacks only one of them would get the boost, but that the buff would remain, not that it would be used up. Thanks Austin for clearing that up for me
Thanks Austin this was really helpful! And just to be fair, VGC and Competitive Experts are few and far between. As soon as the embargo is lifted, this DLC will change things in competitive. Hopefully my boi Incinaroar will rise again.
Honestly the goat of showing everything on pokemon
The GOAT
I must say that Synchro Mode is great for shiny hunting if you're near the area that is. I lost a shiny Galarian Slowpoke due to me being far away, plus going into the Coastal Plaza to boot.
Can't wait to put this on my protean choice item meowscarada.
Contrary serperior is really good for grass tera leaf storm combined with giga drain you wouldn't need a shell bell
My shiny Arceus is definitely getting it. I’m so happy I spent time in bdsp to get him shiny instead of being impatient like normal and just catching him in the first battle.
I like this and I finally figured out what the stellar tera type is and also who I got my ass kicked when I tried using terapagos in a tera raid immediately after I got it. But I feel like you explained that one type of move only gets boosted one time like 15 times. Like I love this channel and you helped so much in legends arceus. But I get it! It boosts one type of move one time!
Serperior, Rampardos, and milotic are going to be meta breaking
While I wasn’t thinking about contrary, I was actually thinking of Ogerpon with defiant. Not sure if it would be good, but just something I thought about
Sadly defiant doesn’t activate on self inflicted stat drops
ogerpon's tera type cant be changed unfortunately
Defiant wouldn't work since self conflicting stats won't work
It’s interesting for high coverage sweepers in my opinion that’s about it. Trying it on my Archaludon now. Lots of coverage in its movepool
Offensively it's good, but defensively it's bad tera type because you keep your regular weakness (swampert 4x weak to grass) but you also gain a weakness to stellar type
My Mewtwo VGC build is an all out atacker that uses AV so having a Stellar tera type on him is great!
I love you, “if you’re a casual player like me” brother in Christ you explained how this works going on pc to put it on paper there’s nothing casual about you with Pokémon. Keep up the great work as always Austin always helping me and my fiance (soon to be wife after the holidays) with the Pokémon’s. You’re amazing happy holidays bro
stellar tera Arceus is gonna slap in raids now. Been waiting for it since i could put my arceus in the game and stellar got announced
Stellar Tera is huuuuge for avalugg. You can get a monster defense stat with iron defense and bonus from snow because you are still ice type then you can hit a beefy body press that’s buffed by stellar.
Actually if you terastalize avalugg into a stellar type you keep your regular weaknesses, but you become a stellar type instead of your regular type, and you gain a weakness to stellar type
Really helpful thanks Austin
Thank you! This is so helpful
Thanks after i got teropigos and had no idea what steller tera ment
Tera Stellar seems REALLY good for Archaludon, no? One of the most popular sets from the start was Assault Vest with Draco Meteor/Dragon Pulse, Flash Cannon, Electro Shot and Body Press because Stamina. Considering Steel/Dragon is a great defensive typing already, keeping your defensive type matchups while boosting all of your moves just seems to fit too well to me.
also Hisuian Zoroark
Don't think you even need Electro Shot, it's too unreliable and loses you a turn if the weather changes. And I personally prefer Stalwart to ignore Follow Me and Rage Powder. I'd put Aura Sphere in there instead of body press.
And only now did I realize we may be talking about two entirely different formats lol. I'm a vgc person, but yeah, your set makes a lot of sense for singles.
Offensively it's a good type, but defensively it's bad because you still have your regular type weakness. So garchomp for example would still be weak to grass, water, dragon, fairy, 4x weak to ice, and it gains a weakness to stellar type
@@dtell3424 Garchomp isn't weak to grass or water, and on some pokemon it isn'P bad defensively because they already have a great defensive typing like steel fairy or steel dragon..
didn't even think of the raid builds but those are strong, thanks! best practical application for me so far has been getting it on my favorite mon, luxray isn't great for shiny hunting but hes earned a ton of bbq points
You can actually get the Stellar type before catching Terapagos. You get shards from the wild tera mons in the underdepths and if you're lucky like I was you could find some on the ground too and then go to get your tera type changed
Honestly I think mechanically terastilizing is a really good mechanic, especially with the addition of stellar, I just wish we didn't have the funny hat lol. Dunno why it couldn't just be a flaming aura or something in battle. But oh well, take the good with the bad I guess xD
I like how SOME of the hats look, but stellar's is too much for me
Does Austin actually sleep? Pumping out these videos like someone fed the gremlin after midnight.
my Snorlax in Sleep does NOT like me this week
im digging these videos keep up the great work.
It's basically the gems of previous generations on steriods minus the item slot. i love that it's only an offensive tera and didn't have a defensive aspect to it.
Terastallize is definitely the best introduction to Pokémon battles since double battle in gen 3. It adds so much more versatility, depth & unpredictability… it’s really fun! 😁
Not really since defensively you keep your weaknesses so swampert is still 4x weak to grass type, but with stellar it gains a weakness to stellar type
Hi
👋🏼
This was awesome! I really enjoyed this video, I have not got the DLC for either yet. But it’s videos like this that make me want to buy it right now
Conveniently, i was looking for a reason to throw Malamar on my team because he seemed cool. Now i actually have one
so stellar is useless
Yes
No
5:20 Serviper contrary STELLAR Terablast against Tera raids,
YOU ARE WELCOME!
OMG.... 8:20....
I completely forgot about the new Tera form until now that’s cool asf thanks for another great video 👍🥳
i feel like this'll be powerful on arceus with judgment
Talk about the cut scene that happens when you bring Terapagos to the crystal lake in Kitakami!
I’m glad we have Austin John to answer this question, the little thing that shows up explaining it didn’t help at all
Hey Austin thanks for everything you do! I think this dlc is the best we’ve gotten and hope future Pokemon games are as good as this!
@Austinjohnplays Idon’t know where we would be without you giving us these videos on how to be better in scarlet and violet. I just wanted to say thank you
Was wondering how this works. Thanks AustinJohn!
Hey Austin the stellar terra type in raids acts different it always gives the tera stab boost. It tells you that once you unlock the type in one of the tutorials if you read it all the way through. Also i love your content its helped me in all of my nintendo gaming.
oh my god i needed this i was so confused thank you so much
5:55 "If You are casual player, like myself." You made my day mate !
I think You should made merchandise with this slogan, like a T-shirt with Your face on it and sentence "Austin John - casual player, like myself."
Any pokemon in a Tera raid battle. As each move type gets unlimited uses in a raid. Def will see new type in raids
There’s a leve 80 stellar Garchomp down behind one of the crystals. Kind of hidden. But if you beat him you get a lot of tera shards of diff type.
Where do I find it?
4:48 I KNEW IT!!! My prediction was correct (stellar being an anti-tera measure)! Feeling very big brain now 😂
10:53 for serpirior I personally like to use contrary in doubles with my milotic, lead storm for obvious reasons, gigadrain to bleed from milotics recover, and bulldoze on milotic to slow everything else down, while speeding up serpirior. Milotic also has hydropump and ice beam for good damage, and the only uncovered weaknesses would probably be bug.
Gastrodon might match up well with your Serperior too!
I don't comment here much but as usual you're always so helpful. I haven't started any of the DLC at all yet so naturally when I saw this I was very surprised. I must say this is really OP and I'm not sure how to feel about it tbh.
Austin is the goat for the last little bit about stellar type
I went up to the top of the terarium as soon as I could fly and I was so excited that I was probably one of the first people to find out about this
It's great for 6-7 star riders (everyone probably have box full of them), but my top 3 will be: Terapagos (obviously), Malamar and Enamorus (1. Contrary; 2. Stellar tera blast; 3.???; 4. Profit)
Another massive W from Austin John! I like your Raid bosses they definitely give this game replayability because grinding Dens are not content!
4:45
Listening to this point a question came to mind… what if say a Pokemon with the ability contrary used it?
In my school vr game Goalius use of Terrastrizalised Stellar type makes him unstoppable
You said Contrary and I say up straighter because that is one of my favourite raid strats with my lurantis
I have my shiny hunter Breloom as a Stellar type! If I don't get the quick ball catch, it makes it more certain to false swipe the pokemon down after I Spore even if it's usually resistant.
Question, what if a multi hit attack (such as petal dance or population bomb) were to hit the target wile stellar terastalisd, would it do extra damage on all attacks or just the first one attack
I think i might have a way to spread awareness on helping people find others a union room. If there is a way each time you create a union room lets say it starts with a 1 reset each time til you create a room that starts with 1 then people would randomly type in codes that start with 1 for union rooms.
Austin I don't know if you notice but Arceus doesn't lose the 1 time stellar bonus when you first use Judgement but if he has other move that matches the Judgment type then that move loses the Stella Bonus but not Judgement
Without you, I would be so lost! Thank you!
THEH JUST MADE MY BOY SO MUCH MORE POWERFUL!!
At 11:05, Grass Tera and Stellar tera would result in the same grass stab tho, since stellar doesnt change the pokemon's type, and only adds the tera boost and change the tera move's utilities.
oooh contrary serperior with terra blast is gonna be amazing
Thanks for video as always. Off topic game freak missed the opportunity to make something really good with area zero. Imagine Pokemon game base on area zero only
Thanks man I give an iron hands the stellar type and I keep on dominating all raids so far
Thanks Austin!
It’s nice I can watch these videos. Refuse to buy the dlc or support them anymore but I’m still interested in the lore.
