DEAD Switch Lite | Can I FIX It?
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 7 окт 2024
- This Nintendo Switch Lite stopped charging and now has no power. Obvs it now doesn't turn on.
Will it need a new USB-C port? Or will there be more wrong with it?
Let's try and fix it!
Hope you enjoy!
Steve
PS. I'm not an expert in repairs at all. I do this for fun, and it may not be the best or safest way to go about repairing broken stuff. I'm pretty good at melting plastic though. Please don't copy me - I'm an idiot.

Nice work Steve btw what flux do you use.
i cant imagine why anyone would skip the songs. theyre always fun. love these videos man!
Makes you wonder why none of the other electronics repair RUclipsrs sing in their videos. Filling a niche?
Love the song, the repair and the incorrect amount of thermal paste!!! Awesome job as usual!!!! 🐺😁
You can drastically reduce the probability of pins not soldering onto the board correctly by using the soldering iron to cover the pins with solder before you hot-air-solder the connector onto the board. This is good practice particularly for the hidden pins under the connector.
Steve got the best repair vids you get it all with his.
He doesn't apply the correct amount of thermal paste but we all still love him.
Isn't the Tronicsfix guy also called Steve...?
ITYM perfect
@JopieHaargel sorry I was only talking about Stez. Honestly, I'm sure we all watch similar repair youtubers. Out them all Stezstix just has best production value in my mind. Hes got great personality/entertains/Solid solder joints/good comedian and raps for God sakes lol. All while repairing random stuff. I definitely appreciate his videos.
@@JopieHaargel He is but he's also incredibly cringe
LAL steve is cringe asf
The first replacement port seemed fine, and it's possible that the battery was just over-discharged. It looked like the battery had some protection in place and was slowly recovering, kind of like a 'wake-up' process.
Yeah, the switch does weird thing with the battery once it's overdischarged. i'm pretty sure you're right.
@@SaitoGray I’m so o
I so much would love to fix a nintendo switch, I've never had one, so I'd love to get one broken and then fix it. All the repairs are something I so much love.
Honestly I would love to see you doing more covers over the normal rap that was bloody brilliant mate.
Home made YT channels, that are this good, are few and far between !
gotta love the references you do of other tech repair channels, keep it up
Yeah - quite a community they have :)
I went to school for electronics repair 25 years ago and have an assistant degree in electronics technology and have been repairing mostly musical equipment for the past 30 years now. You did a good job. My only criticism is that I would have changed the two smd caps, they are probably bad, just not bad enough to be grossly out of speck. As a Morrison, thanks for singing my cousin Jim's song on key at the end.
I just wanted to let you know that I love your videos. They're always so entertaining (and also informative-I put them on to keep me company while I work on my own electronics. I just recently got into fixing up old electronics and there's so much to learn, but I learn a lot just watching how you identify and solve problems with the things you work on)
That first shot of usb port removal was trully artistic. Well done Steve!
what a diQlicker HA HA!
Hey I really appreciate your videos. You're a huge source of inspiration for me getting into soldering. I got myself a little station and I'm building up my arsenal, putting together kits for my friends. I've built radios, Bluetooth speakers, random projects... My end goal is to be able to repair old consoles and things as a hobby. I'd really like to mod an old ps2 with an SD card slot and hdmi out... I think I might be good enough to do that soon!
Totally awesome. I’m at a loss as to how this channel only has 109k subs.
Good display of problem solving and logical thinking even though we may not be trained electricians we can still use our limited knowledge to our advantage! That partial short is pretty confusing, would be good to see if they're all like that.
I have never soldered anything in my life. This, is the exact reason I will begin my soldering journey. The exact same problem plagues my switch lite (same color too!). Thanks for the video!
I have to ask, just how did you damage the charging port?
@@talon12020 I have kids. I'm guessing they dropped it while they were charging it because they port only works if I manipulate the USB-C cable in a way for it to make "contact". I'm assuming I've if the solder points on the USB C is not "solid" but, I need more equipment to find out.
You've got both kinds of music here: Country and Western! 🤩❤
New music goes hard. I admit I used to be a skipper, but not now.
That deadpan stare into the camera - incorrect amount of thermal paste, indeed! Loved it!
RIP Harry Chapin - took from us far too early. Very nice cover Steve - well done!
love the song. I think hot dropping port with anchor points pre-soldered is a mistake though. Kinda hit or miss sometimes, and if not heat soaked long enough with the port in place (getting the port to same temperature as board), can cause cracked solder joints over time. It's more reliable to just solder the anchor points with a soldering iron after you've secured the pins first (pre-tinning the port pins helps a lot too). Regardless of how I personally feel about port dropping, you did an excellent job, absolutely love your video's, keep them coming!
I cannot skip the song! EVER! I hope you perform at your pub
Love the 80th synth music that reminds me of Ember Jensen
Please give us more of the high pitched speech muppet guy. I love it so much. Congrats on another great Repair.
I've loved all your content for a long time. Funny how much time has passed. I love the youtube plaque behind you. You deserve it and more. You're videos have become so much better over the years and I won't be surprised if you become one of the top youtube channels someday.
The smoke reminded me of the basement in that 70's show :D
Could watch you videos for the dismantle song alone :D love them all!!!
Best intro song yet, top marks.
I love the dub you made of "A horse with no name"! Awesome!
That went from, "Sure, I should be able to help you with that" to "You owe me $80" real quick!
awesome song and awesome vid!
Not gonna lie, that was the first of Steve's songs I've not jumped ahead on for a long, long time. Loved this vid, excellent work and top-drawer as ever. Thank you.
The best feel-good(f) channel on the interweb!
Damn I'm really digging this patreon jam.
That music section gave me life. Thank you for that. Also thank you for the video. Could you do one on replacement of the left and/or right analog sticks please? I trust YOUR videos more than anyone elses on YT
I wonder if your battery was in sleep/recovery mode. It was completely discharged and if it had been for a while the battery chip turns itself off completely to avoid destroying the battery through self discharge. When this is the case it will start taking a tiny charge (like 0.01A) just to turn on the battery's circuitry and begin trying to charge the battery. If it can recover the charge in an appropriate way it then charges with more and more current until it can charge normally. If it doesn't charge normally it shuts down. That's pretty much what we saw, except that it worked the second or third time you tried.
I love the new song style. I hope you do it once in a while alongside your normal! Great video
Holy shit. How do you find the time to maintain a RUclips channel while simultaneously coming up with lyrics about your Patreons week after week? I can barely muster up the energy to get out of bed every day. Respect!
Thanks for another fun video to watch!!
you sir, are a master solderer! aside from the fact that now, when i smd solder, i find myself saying "solid" (lowering my voice of course) and "nice", i've learned a lot since watching you from the beginning, and i have improved quite a bit. thanks for all! keep up the great work. ( and i always look forward to the rap, don't let anybody tell you otherwise.)
That was a "solid" amount of thermal paste you put there. 😜 Great to see another stupid thing brought back to life. Also digging the new musical style at the beginning.
😅 thanks Heidi! 👍
"This is where I wish I knew more things." I love it.
So glad this is the first time i didnt skip the song. I dont get condemned and i got to witness that beautiful pop country
Dude that song was genius. Love your work and your style. Thanks for great content and ingenuity. From Victoria Australia
I never skip the patreon song... but todays? Excellent. Loved it. Like, no particular affection to any musical genre, it was just fun to have something new!
I never skip the songs, and this was worth it! Great video too. I like how “suddenly stopped charging” translates to “I wrecked the port” most of the time.
I love watching these right before I work on my own videos. Always puts me in a great mood.
Absolutely loved every second of that we honestly need a movie titled Steve the Legendary repairer of things.
That HHG song was pretty epic.
best part was the eye contact for the "incorrect amount of thermal paste" lmao!
Wouldn't the tiny shavings of metal from the dremel disc and USB port go all over that motherboard? Probably should have covered it up? Other than that, great video and great fix as per usual 👍
Once again, a great video :) best part is always when you're like 'this should do it' and I see there is 8 mins left in the video...
This Patreon song is so much better then the rap, keep it up! Also love the video :)
Nice fix Steve you do a fabulous job with all the items you do😊
Awesome music in this one Steve
I never knew I needed high speed Dremel sounds in my life until now
I love when you rip on Tronixfix, makes my day every time!! Great HHG song as well!!
Music was out of this world. Nice.
Freindly advice. Some times the screen just blacks out. I had a charger indicating charge was going into the switch, but the switch was black. Held power and volume - and the switch rebooted.
Hi Steve 👋! Thanks for your video 😊)
I'm from Ukraine, and let's check how much Ukrainian are here, and watching your video! If you are from Ukraine, like this comment! Thanks.
Thanks UK for supporting us in this difficult time.
Great video. Your subtle frustrations are very relatable in the way I approach my repairs. 😂 Thank you for sharing.
Stümpern für Fortgeschrittene Germans really do have a word for everything. Even for your channel.
best song so far, love ya work
I would suggest folks get JSTD001 cert for soldering. Goes a long way! There’s a rework one too. IPC 7711/7721.
Best song yet Steve, great work. You make it look so easy.
Hi Steve and everyone, someone has taken your image of RUclips, and has sent me an e-mail and tried to scam me via Telegram saying I had a giveaway or something like that. Also he/she has given a telegram contact which exactly matches yours. Please be aware!
One of my favourite songs on this one. Beats a rap!
Cat's in the cradle, and the silver pin, little switch blue and steve in the moon
Hey Steve, great video, as usual.
Just wanted to ask what flux you are using. I have never seen such clear flux and I want to get this too 😀
Such good fun these clips and more innuendos please :)
Nice repair. The change of chip was probably unnecessary, no?
there was some shorted components on the left and after the chip change they were fixed, the usb port when it breaks shorts and damages that component almost always
"Stümpern für Fortgeschrittene" - could be the name of a course I visit everyday :D
love the Patreon song and a nice fix
I though I saw the solder on the left part of the port was so close (not sure if touching) the first pin. Also, what a nice parody of the perfect amount of TP from Tronix Fix jajaja love it
You should record an album....in regards to the switch, excellent fix. Always enjoy your videos
Thanks. Step number 2 worked. I was panicking…. Can’t afford another oled switch now…
Love the music change!
Why watch this channel if you skip the music? Amazing stuff as always
Have to say that I really love your videos. You have way more courage than I have and I work in designing electronics 😁For future I would invest in getting soldering paste. You cleaned the pads really well for the connector. If you'd then applied some solder paste on them, maybe all pins would have become 'solid'. But great work there!
Man, I love this channel.
Another interesting fix there Steve 👍
That song was epic!!! "If you're still here, thank you. But if you skipped..." I laughed too much at that! 🤣
Too much paste is fine. Too little is the only problem ever. 👍 Great work!
Who's to say what the correct amount of thermal paste is.. live your life, rebel Steve.
I love that call back to tronics fix lol !
Great job. Loved the new song and you can only end with monkey Joe Tokyo! Anyone else is just wrong
Instead of grinding the port down when I fixed one of these for my kids a few years ago I used needle files to make the port hole in the shell slightly larger. Then it fit the standard usb c port fine and once assembled you can barely tell the difference.
Hilarious, once again. At this point I'm not here for the repair anymore, just the funny banter.
Nice one Steve !
Cheers Mart! 😍
Loved your song this week
I did the reset button you showed in your video a few times and took my game and SD card out. and left my switch along a few hours and my brother came in and I told him my switch wasn't working and I turned on the switch it was working again thanks for the tips. I was worried that I had to buy a new switch.
I listened to the whole song, no skips this time.
I love the aidetek boxes...
Genius songs, sarcasm & humour Whats not to like !
Dude, the incorrect amount of thermal paste was killing me. What a great gibe to Tronix Fix.
Thank you Steeve !
For peace of mind, I'd suggest:
Check for shorts
Remove port
Check for shorts again
Install port
Check for shorts one last time
Tedious, but at least you can exclude the case where the short is the result of bridged pins on the usb connector.
Thanks for not rapping this week. I grew out of rap many many many years ago, so this I can listen to! 😎
Rap is like diapers. You need it for awhile, then there's a long stretch of life where you don't need it, then it becomes necessary again if you live long enuff.
That's what Regis says.
Still a "peace", though 😂
Always crack me up!
Pov: old head has been hating rap for 40 years and can't think of anything positive to say
Hate to break it to ya, but literally take the same vocal track, change the background music, and it's still rap.
Rhythm And Poetry.
@@Boogie_the_cat +1
good job Steve, but im gonna have to dock you points for putting the correct amount of thermal paste 😎
