I use the Australian Gold as a makeup foundation for daytime. It's a little drying in the winter, but I use extra moisturizer. Cotz also make a good one that dries matte.

Love this advise. I have similar skin concerns as you mentioned. I tend to stick mineral sunscreen because of my sensitive skin. A sunscreen I have been using lately is supergoop’ s Matte Screen. What I love is the texture of this formula. It is really soft when you apply it and it never irritates my skin. The colors blends in fairly close to my skin tone.

Agreed! Even if I could spend these amounts every now and then I'd have to use much less than the recommended amount to make the tube last longer. I think the Cervave tinted SPF30 is good. Sunscreen is expensive but at least the Cerave is cheaper than these ones.

La Roche Posay tinted mineral liquid (but only uses titanium dioxide), CeraVe tinted spf 30, and I love Physicians Formula cc or bb cream (tinted spf 30). If you want to double up for security, try Olay mineral moisturing sunscreen (I love it alone on days I am staying indoors) with the PF bb or cc cream or CeraVe on top. 😎

Quick update: I ended up getting the Australian Gold Botanical fair to light (I have very pale skin) and for the most part I really do like it as an affordable option. It feels really nice and mouse like, and I was even able to get my boyfriend to wear it daily too! But I will say that it does look still a little too dark and orange on my skin, especially if I need to reapply. It's not too bad though and I really like the matte look, it helps cover up my acne just a tad so it's not as noticeable. I'm considering trying out one of the other ones recommended here but not sure which yet.

I adore the Australian Gold sunscreen as it is perfect primer for my combination skin. I am very fair but this sunscreen used as a primer for any of my make-up does not change the color of my complexion at all. I purchased once the Sisley tinted sunscreen paying 8 times what the Australian Gold BB cream costs. To my surprise the low price BB cream from Australian Gold was better than Sisley’s one.

The fact that I'm 46 years old, have suffered from hyperpigmentation my whole life, and am just finding out about the need for Iron Oxide in my sunscreen for the first time this week makes me want to apologize to my teenage self for all of the lingering spots that could have been avoided. lol Thanks to you and Dr. Alexis Stephens for enlightening me via RUclips. I had always heard that tinted mineral sunscreens were better for POC, but never received and explanation as to why until I found you both. Thank you, thank you, thank you! Also, I'm a HUGE fan of the EltaMD UV Clear and just received the Colorscience sunscreen the other day and can't wait to try it. Good day Dr Ellis. I have skin similar to yours(as you described). I love tinted sunscreen as I am also low maintenance. I have mature skin(60) and have used Elta Md broad spectrum 46 and SkinCeuticals physical fusion 50. I purchased today Supergoop mineral sheer screen 30 at the sales clerks suggestion that it is completely natural product. Is supergoop an appropriate product for mature skin(also 30?). How does it compare to SC and Elta MD?for mature skin. Thank you very much

The Elta MD clear sunscreen also pills on me - really frustrated because I love their UV Shield and wanted to try something new. I’ll try the tinted version though!

Thanks Dr Ellis for including clips of application so we can see the end result for each sunscreen. Ironically the Australian Gold is not available in Australia!!! It's made in Florida and not distributed to Australia so that one is out for me!

I also love the elta MD but might try another brand you have recommended next time. Would you consider doing a video about self tanners? Are they safe to use if you have Melasma and or Hyperpigmentation.

Such a great video, I love tinted sunscreen!! Colorscience Flex is tough to beat, although I have to mix the fair and medium shades to get a nice match. I have oily, acne prone skin and rosacea and the Colorscience does not cause any issues for me. Hope to see a similar product from Prequel in the future!! Drmtlgy sunscreens are also very nice but a little too shiny for my oily skin. Alastin is lovely but too dark for my skin tone. I wish they would make more shades!

I have used most of these mentioned here and always end up going back to the Australian Gold Tinted. I have combo skin and the "fair to light" is the only one I feel really protects my skin under the HOT & HUMID Florida sun (Miami). The others tend to leave a greasy feel to my skin, and I have to reapply more often, and as you mentioned the AG does not transfer, which is awesome.

La Roche Posay’s mineral tinted sunscreen is also amazing ! I have acne-prone skin/ oily skin and use it everyday, it really evens my skin tone and diminishes any redness I have. Highly recommend!

I'm sadly returning La Roche Posay's tinted sunscreen today (even though i've been buying it forever:( It layers on perfectly, matches my skin tone and doesn't break me out. Unfortunately I just found out that unlike its original (not the tinted mineral version), it relies only on Titanium Dioxide, so there's no Zinc Oxide to provide the Broadband spectrum protection (so you're left unprotected from the UVA rays). I'm so disappointed that it's something I missed - Dr. Dray has a video about it! Especially for the price point - it is 1.7 oz compared to the other mineral tinted sunscreens that not only properly protect you but have antioxidants and include great active ingredients such as niacinamide.

I love that product as well ! I’m mixed race and it does leave a tent, but it does not bother me. I love it. Personally, a white cast never bothers me because I know the benefits of mineral sunscreens. I love them. As long as I apply my colored SPF cc cream on top everything is good.

I have been using the Elta MD, but started noticing peeling. Also the packaging gets so dirty and the pump stops working before you finish the product. I love it, but I cannot stand the peeling. Sooo after watching and hearing good things about Colorscience, I am going to try the Flex.

Hi! I have been using supergoop cc cream tinted mineral sunscreen as a replacement for foundation and I’ve been liking it. My skin is oily and hot humid weather doesn’t work the best but with a setting powder I’m happy with it. I have the Australian Gold tinted one but haven’t tried it yet. I often us MD solar science tinted mineral because I love the antioxidants that it contains. I’m still looking for my holy grail.
