I struggle with this too. The youtuber Lab Muffin is a good resource for the science behind sunscreen. In short, it's fine. Personally, I decided to use the sunscreen I need and sacrifice somethings I don't need to reduce my environmental impact.
I use the Drmtlgy. For me it was the price. I love it. I'm a 61 year old, olive skin, soccer, fishing, hiking outdoors woman. We are in the mountains thus closer to the sun too. Thank you for sharing I will be on the look out for other options you may present in future videos. 👊🏾⚘️
Can you guys share a little about the differences between the tinted Elta MD sunscreens like the UV Clear tinted, UV Daily, UV Physical, UV Restore, etc.?
I use The daily formulation and love it. I tried the clear and it irritated my skin. Turns out it has lactic acid - an AHA - a chemical exfoliant that I typically only use 1x a week at most.
I would love to see comparisons with Elta MD UV Clear and UV Elements, not necessarily together but whatever you think would be a good comparison to show for each! You guys are awesome, absolutely adore your channel and authentic information!
I recently switched from DRMTLGY to Elta MD and I really love it. I have spent a fortune on skincare, but not on sunscreen. Now I'm commited to better sunscreen. For me, Elta MD is worth the price.
I’ve been using EltaMD tinted sunscreen every day since 2010, when I turned 50. It does have a shiny/dewey finish, which I HATE, so I use a pressed finishing powder (No7 or Bare Minerals) over it. Not only does it knocks down the shine but it gives me enough coverage that the combination works great as a natural looking foundation! Even if I’m shooting a video, it’s still the combination I use, I just might go a little heavier on the powder or use a darker shade, for more coverage. It feels so much nicer than wearing actual foundation. I’m just realizing now at 62, I should have been putting the EltaMD on my ears too.
Thanks for the review. For me the Drmtlgy one is best because I have extremely dry skin. This sits beautifully under my foundation so much so that I don't have to use a primer.
I'm always on the lookout for a mineral sunscreen that doesn't burn my eyes, doesn't leave me whiter than I already am and is water resistant. I'm a sweaty person, especially in the summer so that is super important. My main concern with some of these tinted sunscreens is they leave me looking like I don't know how to match my foundation color to my face. It's definitely not easy!

I use the tinted Australian Gold. Super affordable and so comfortable, some say it may get a little dry by the end of the day but I use it over serums and moisturizer and never had any dryness on my combination skin. Can’t beat $14 for a product with a decent ingredient list.
@@lizroberts1569 i wish I could say that it may just be that yáll have a different taste but I’m also disappointed in the las tube I bought. I’m wondering if they changed the formula or it’s different between shades. I got the shade darker than my usual and it feels very heavy.
Great topic! I agree that the Elta md clear would have been the better comparison. It use to be my absolute favorite. Then DRMTLGY came along at a better price point and I switched. The only difference I could see was the Elta MD had a more beige color and the DRMTLGY has a more pink color which works better for me too. Both are great! Thanks for the video. Love you guys.
I have used both elta & drmtlg. I like both. But both are shiny. I dont know why they dont have matte option 😢🤔 even the phydical which drmtlgy claimed is matte, its still shiny…. Sad
I’ve been using the DRMTLGY tinted moisturizer for years and I love it! I’ll agree that it can be messy since it gets on the inside of my mask throughout the day, but a pump or two is enough to cover my whole face and provide coverage for all day without getting in my eyes like regular sunscreen!!
LOVE Solara Suncare!!🌞 Hands down favorite of all time. They have so many different application methods, I love all of the options, both active wear and everyday.
Suggestion - instead of a beauty blender sponge, use a silicone beauty blender. The silicone doesn’t absorb the sunscreen like the sponge so you will know how much you have applied. Thoroughly enjoyed the ‘derm wars’ concept. Great information. Thanks

Love you two doctors, and your informative videos! My new goal is simple - SPF every single day! Growing up, we treated SPF like car seat belts. Dad would say “put your seatbelt on” when we were going on the highway. (Guess we didn’t need it around town?) and SPF was for when we went to the beach - once a year for a week! Ah…Growing up in the 70’s 🧐
You are both just WAY too adorable! The “dewy” argument 🤣🤣. Then Dr Shah checking himself on the phone and wandering up to check on his hair 🤣🤣. Thanks for the great info, esp on blue-light. I am a pasty white girl and I ALWAYS wear sunscreen. Currently using La Roche-Pisa’s spf50 tinted mineral lotion. I am happy with the product, but dang, that tint is way too dark on me. Do these companies know skin comes in different color tones?
I really appreciate your sunscreen videos. I have multiracial skin, and now that I have children, I want them to have better sunscreen options than I had (circa 70’ and 80’s). I’m sensitive to mineral sunscreens, and break out like crazy. Now if Naturium had a sunscreen…my routine would be complete. Keep up the great work, and thanks for informing your fans!
Hi Docs. I’m the girl (71 ha ha) who purchased your 3 pack fro Biossance. Also got 30% off. I love it!! As I use up products I’m replacing them with Biossance products. Love, love. Has made a huge difference in my skin. I’m also enjoying a Brand that is Eco Friendly. Thanks
I been using the DRMTOLGY physical tinted sunscreen every morning before my workout which is outside. I like the packaging and the ingredients. It is very GLOWEY… but, I also like that when I sweat it doesn’t hurt my eyes. I wish I could find a good Spf 100 for my face and body that doesn’t hurt my eyes.
I have been using DRMTLGY's non-tinted for a couple years and it's my ride or die. Elta MD just pills so much that I don't think I'm actually getting proper coverage. Finding a tinted sunscreen has been super tough for me, everything I try is too deep or too orangey. The quest continues :) Love love love you guys, your videos are such a delight!
I must say, both Doctors are extremely informative yet entertaining and comfortable at the same time. Love it. Thanks for this video as well, definitely been debating on which sunscreen to choose between the two.
I need a body sunscreen that feels like a moisturizer but doesn’t live a white cast on my tattoos! I’ve been defaulting to face sunscreens because they don’t leave you feeling sticky or grease but it’s really expensive to use then on the body!
i like the eucerin daily hydration spf 30 for the body on low sun exposure days. banana boat light as air is good for more sun exposure because it’s spf 50 and water resistant.
I recently discovered Bliss tinted sunscreen, which is very nice. I usually use Avene tinted compact as a year round conclear, works great. I’d like to see more videos on drugstore sunscreen’s, how about neutrogena, particularly the hydro boost line.

I’ve used DRMTLGY for about a year now. I read reviews on the Elta MD and saw a lot of very fair skinned people have said it’s just too dark and I’m very pale. I do have to say that the DRMTLGY does burn your eyes if you forget you have it on and rub your eyes.

I am crazy about sunscreens and have tried so many different ones over the years. And of course, I have tried these 2. I have used different versions of Elta MD and I found DMTGLY because it has similar active ingredients to one of the Elta MD sunscreens, it is SPF 46, and it’s way cheaper. DMTLGY feel so light weight, not sticky at all but it took me so long to wait for it to properly absorb because I look overly dewy when first apply (I use the 3 fingers rule for my face and neck). IMO these 2 are among the best ones you can find in US. I still prefers Japanese sunscreens hands down. They feel literally like nothing on skin and they are very effective. I just brought a UV camera for sunscreen in a compact mirror form. I want to check how well sunscreens last during mid day. Very excited!😊
