Elk Shape something I’ve heard but never could test it. But I heard full colored strings affect arrow speed. Is this true and it may make a decent video!
Definitely digging what y’all have been putting out. We need more fitness vids like the days of old except a “do-along” WOD or HIIT whatever you’re feeling every once in a while.
I have been bowhunting for over 35 years.. Back in the day we were thought to point the arrow at the target and pull back to the anchor.. Now I have so much muscle memory that if I try something different, it just doesn't seem to feel right.. Love the videos.. We are never too old to stop learning.. I am retired from the US ARMY and a disabled veteran so I shoot my bow every day.. Have a great day and shoot straight.!!

Just found this channel and I'm super surprised there's not a lot more subscribers. Just got my first bow in January and my daughter just got hers this week, so will be our first hunting season. Love all the tips and tricks!!
Perfect timing. Was just at the physio today to get my shoulder on my bow arm checked out. He new how to work on my shoulder but had no tips for my technique to prevent the injury. Looks like I need to work more on keeping the scapula down and retracted. Loving the content, thanks for all the advice and tips.
20 years ago I was 22 years old and went back to college for a minute. While doing so, The Physical education class had a show and tell and I did mine over archery. The teacher said i could bring my bow in so I did. I had a high country max force that was pulling around 81 lbs. and I could pull that bow with ease even sitting down Indian style. Well when it was all said and done there was a guy in his 40s that you could tell worked out as he was probably 6'3 and 270 that wanted to pull this bow back. Oh you should've seen the looks from the class and teacher when he struggled and had to let down twice before he finally got it back. Now I wasn't a professional archer and never took classes but I knew how to keep everything tight and draw that bow. I explained its more about technique than just strength. Your video reminded me of this story !! People would be surprised how much they could really draw with sound technique.
I've seen guys at the range put their bow above their head to make their draw and then rotate 90 degrees to make their shot. Crazy... Awesome video man!
#1 source of issues is trying to draw too much weight imo. I'm guilty, and so many others are too. We start with the right form in mind, then we start contorting to get it to full draw. If everyone dropped 5-10#, it's amazing how quickly the form would be fixed. We need to train for more weight, and draw less weight. Help us Dan!
Excellent. One thing you might want to tell people about form is to keep your neck straight up and down and not to lean forward into the string to tough your nose. I mangled my neck doing this. Shooting a 28 vxr so string angle is more than some bows and makes it happen by accident
This great. As a beginning archer and someone who understanding the body and physics of sport. Makes total sense. I filmed this evening and for sure need to work on that should creep
Super well explained in detail which is missing 99% of the "training?" videos. I'm 72 and it's like damn near impossible for me to do this at hunting poundage which is 58#'s. Target bow at 49# I can get it done. Now back just 5 years ago it wasn't a problem. Old age makes for " adapt & execute"! Folks. Listen to him and work at it. It WILL WILL WILL pay off for just a little extra effort. If you have to shoot lower poundage and work into it-fricking DO IT!!!
Awesome info! I have had elevated shoulder issues like whenever I shot a bow, I think your videos are best for that, Thank You! For some criticism: when you draw with your release your thumb is in front of the "trigger". You are a pro so no problem for you, but for another layer of safety (for a beginner) it is better to fold the thumb in the palm, under the release button to prevent accidental discharge during drawing or letting back the bow.
Gonna send this to my friend todd how has had shoulder surgery a few months ago. Hopefully we can get him up and running before achery season. Thanks for all your information. Really liked the arrow building ones. I've built my own arrows for a few years and never realized how much I was doing it wrong.
Thank you! I’ve been flailing around trying to find a consistent draw form. When I get it right it is almost effortless(elbow about even with my ear). When I’m straining I find my elbow was either high above my ear or low near my peck. Also it helps if I think about putting my forward shoulder in my “pants pocket” to keep from shrugging.
Absolutely awesome video, perfectly explained, nice and clear to understand even for newbies like myself! You deserve so many more views on this! 👍🏻 Thanks for the info!
been shooting over forty years I use the corner mouth hook to anchor my hand naturally rests on my jawbone ,you're dead right that a consistent repeatable anchor point is key, but I don't know how you can shoot with the upside down hand position lol obviously comfortable for some , pretty interesting observations , I'm more happy with my technique now after this as I've never had accuracy or discomfort problems thanks cat many bulls-eyes to you
Great video guys! I’ll make sure to pay extra attention to that front shoulder today. Had a dream I won that rangefinder lol. Jk guys keep it up channel is growing and people are watching.
I've been dealing with tendinitis in my bow arms elbow for the past year! Super annoying. However, getting into archery helped with my broken collarbone rehab!
With your background in fitness, can you do a video on what ways you can help strengthen an injured shoulder? I have a 20% tear on my rotator cuff and a four-finger release pulling with my bicep is the only way I can get comfortable now but it’s a ton of movement. Dropping draw weight and strengthening around the injury is my focus now. Thoughts?
I used to point at the sky with elbow high doing everything wrong. Then I changed to the bicep drawing. Now I'm sitting here healing from shoulder surgery because of doing everything wrong & scared to ever draw my bow again. I wish I had you to coach me.
@@ElkShape Thank you for the encouragement. I hope I can shoot again someday but right now I can't even get close to raising my arm up into position. It's going to be a long road.
Good stuff! I feel like everyone says to draw with your rear elbow really high and I’ve found myself doing that but getting a lot of tension in my traps. Good point about starting with your lats pulled down and coming back level.
Haven't shot in a while, but i always found, anyone who is shooting above a comfortable draw weight always draws in their own strange way, just in order to get the string back, I especially seen it in compound shooters, It seemed like their method was "Pull as hard as i can untill the cams kick in and take the weight for me, where im comfortable."
if there was such a thing as a doctor of bow mechanics, then you would be it! I try to be the most efficient with my draw. there are many popular youtube channels that point at the sky with their bow and start lowering down when they start drawing. what's the point of that? that's wasted energy. i like to acquire my target and start drawing back. there is no reason to start high up and start lowering. am i right with that or is there something i'm missing?
Awesome video guys!Just like those awsome HDs ya'll are giving away day after my birthday:)07/04/87💪😜🥳Goodluck to all that Enter! And can't wait to see the next Vid
Excellent video. I feel like I shoot well but have a concern my form is off. There isn't a shop close by in rural Wyoming so these types of videos are super helpful
Good video and topic. What's the best technique for letting down a bow? Is there way that's best on your shoulders or quiet? Sometimes those cams on a high IBO bow just want to rip your shoulders out.
Solid info. I appreciate your eagerness to help us all improve. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and expertise!.. a question, I tend to bend my elbow a fair amount at full draw(left elbow, shooting right handed). Should I make efforts to break this habit?.. it influences my draw length, anchor point, etc.. I feel like I hear/see that I should have my arm fully extended, but it just feels off for me. Any tips?.. my accuracy is pretty solid, but always in pursuit of improvement. Thanks for any feedback/answers.
Okay so I’m just getting into archery now and saw this! Last year I had shoulder surgery and am still recovering regaining mobility in my holding shoulder What If this is my situation?
I’ve never been the high elbow guy and I don’t know why people do the bicep way. I do have to be mindful of my shoulder creep when I’m tired. I’m trying the butt cheek move tomorrow 😂
I wonder if that's why I put the arrow down 100 times to the 20 or 30 my body building family members puts before even starting to feel warn out. Form.
I’m disabled and trying to get consistent. I have nerve damage in my right leg. I have plenty of upper body and core strength. I can’t straighten my right knee all the way and have less strength in that leg, is there anything I can do to compensate?

3:19 if you're gonna show people how to draw; your front bow hand needs to be level with your front shoulder. Otherwise, you are going to have over an inch gap between your nose and string-- like you do at the provided timestamp.
