That one phrase, " it's not about hitting the center of the target but executing the shot" that has helped me more than anything else I have ever heard. I repeat that in my brain as I'm pulling through my shot. It instantly changed my shot process for the better and made me more consistent.
because of joel i have not shot an uncontrolled arrow in 7 yrs..shooting 300's became actually easy..very high x counts and numerous perfect scores also..so i started to shoot a 5 spot at 30 yrds and then 40 yrds to keep testing myself..i shot target archery since i was 15 and am proud to say i shot several 300 games on blue face single spot with fingers and won my state championship one year also...looking at a bullseye target started to burn me out so i wen into 3d shooting which i enjoy but still shoot a vegas face and 5 spots from time to time..walking in the woods knowing you will kill anything that walks within your comfortable shooting range is the most powerful thing to experience as a hunter ever! i really feel sorry for guys who will never get to feel what thats like
Thank you for doing this for everyone. I didn’t know I had target punch and I learned I did. I tried fixing it today and my accuracy went up dramatically at longer distance
This is awesome. I’ve never seen the pull through method, or whatever it’s technically called, explained so well. Thank you for all the great questions you asked him and sharing with us! Wonderful techniques.
As a master archer that he is it seems like he's taken the art back to the fundamentals. It seems like he's basically teaching everyone to go back to the time you first shot a bow...especially with a release....I was aiming dead center at the 🎯 with my pin and out of the blue the arrow let out and hit dead center
Awesome video. I purchased Joel online coarse several years ago and it helped me tremendously with my target panic however I still occasionally fall back into my old habits. This video helped me understand why and what I need to do mentally on every shot to remain focused on the job at hand. Thank you!
It's hard for folks to understand that based on this quick video of picking people apart while they shoot, but after watching Joel work with this group over 2 days, there were some major progress & development! I think he's on to something for certain.
thanks for posting this. This is like Shot IQ part 2...the continuation from Elk shape camp. Joel Turner's shot process was game changing for me and Ive been shooting a bow (the wrong way) for 35 years. Keep us the good work, Dan- you are helping hunters gain knowledge
Great episode. I shoot a thumb release and always thought about this general idea of pulling my hand back with keeping my thumb set to not punch but couldn't quite figure out how to consistently do it. This nailed it.
After watching this video I have realized what I thought was squeezing the trigger for the last 15 years was in fact not squeezing the trigger at all. I got out of bed at 11:45pm and went and shot. Determined to teach myself this new process. Great video!
This makes a lot of sense and it was actually taught to me about 7 years ago. My question that I struggle with is how can this translate to a hunting situation where you dont have the time to take 30 seconds? Am I missing the true point here? I get the concept of target panic and certainly have not mastered it, but have made large strides. This cant work when its "now or never", buck of a lifetime, .5 seconds and hes gone. Im ripping one off baby! Help!!!
I watched your show with Clay Hayes and I realized quickly that your technique is also perfect for my daytrading. Those principles of taking aim, determination, and "no matter what" I think will help tremendously with trade entry discipline. I'll let you know how it goes.
@@ElkShape your content keeps getting better and better brother.. really enjoying the channel! Would love to see maybe how you breakdown maps for new area's for elk... Can't wait for the next one... I don't think i have you on my Instagram.. imm a be sure to follow and support ya bud! 🤟🏼👊🏼💪🏼🏹🦌
Love the video. There are so many great tips tricks and methods to take in from this video. He refers to open or closed loop several times. What does he mean by that?
I love the info this guy (Joel Turner) is putting out. I understand everything he's talking about. BTW I' a new "archer". I would say he is a top-notch teacher.
I have terrible TP. What i cant wrap my head around is the suprise of the bow going off, I THINK TO MYSELF, what if my pins not where its supposed to be when it goes off
Seems to me, in certain situations, major temperature swings- this hand stretching thing is going to introduce inconsistencies if its really cold, long johns, and the wrist strap MUST BE exactly the same EVERY TIME. IF it stretches, the release will be triggered earlier. What does Joel say about this??
B3 Archery is the original Scott family, and their version of the Talon or their original RhinoXT before they sold the company to TOG is the Hawk Flex. In case anyone is considering different brands. #NotSponsored Try them all!
19:50 Scott Hex has changed my life with the help of listening to Joel. You should try one out. Talk about slow. When you are ready and you are saying Slow and you can feel that release slowly move before it brakes it’s amazing! And you can set it as slow as you want to really get the mind where it needs to be.
So what Joel is trying to do is to make you cognitively present, complete concentration on the tasks at hand. Eliminating all distractions from your mind? Or did I get that wrong?
What I liked about you’re son was he was positive he did poop his pants. I hate the time when you’re pretty sure you did but not completely sure. Then you have a conscious decision to make.
No none of that, different releases keep ya honest. It's just what I do, probably doesn't work for everyone else. I mainly hunt with a Scott XT hook release.

So Good! Joel is amazing.
I like the biggest aspect of it all is the control of your mind
What a time to be alive. I feel very lucky to live in an age where i can learn how to shoot my v3x, from absolute legends. Thank you

“Just a tiny bit tho” Dan- “oh okay, we all do that” 🤣👌🏼
So awesome! Best reminders! Thanks guys😎
Glad you enjoyed it!
this is by far the best video ever THANK YOU
I have a Spot Hogg Wiseguy. I'll have to try this with that release!
Dude this video.....🤯🤯 love my thumb buttons way more than my wrist strap but this truly makes you think. Now I need to get home and shoot lol
That stretch the hand advice is a game changer
I'd kill for your backyard
Great advice great video, can't wait to try it out

That's what levi Morgan always preaches, He always say always trust the float.
Yessir
I will be incorporating some of drills into my shot.
Incredible! So much more than just pulling a trigger
Very informal video. I will definetly be saving this one for practice!

You’re going to make me look like a crazy person at the range this weekend.
@Deangelo Brentley No one cares
@Curtis Maverick You're full of shit

This is gold, thanks for sharing.

Smart man, thanks for the video. Bowmar button is awesome.
You had me at poopy pants!!! Nothing better than being a dad!!!
The best videos you made thank you so much for putting him on!!! I learned so much from this now time to put it in action!
Awesome to hear, that's why we do it!
Pure gold
Simply outstanding.Period!
I love this.
I can't wait for my bow to get fixed (waiting on a part from Mathews) so I can practice.
👍👍
Just recently getting back into archery. I realize I have a lot to unlearn.
I am using this philosophy in all aspects of my life.
Incredible videos!
How do Olympic shooters do it?? *** How does TIM WELLS release? AND ...Lmao, remember " kids say the darndest things! LOVE IT.
Great video josh is the man
Awesome information thank u!!!
Such an interesting vid man..i shoot the too simple and something i struggle with is consistently pulling through the shot..trying to make it natural.
Love this video. Have the ultraview on my nock2it and silverback they are amazing.
Joel looks like chuck Liddell from the side lol..seems super smart and explains stuff very very well
Crazy good content Dan thank you!
Appreciate it!
Excellent video. I feel like I just got a free leson.
I have terrible TP.
What i cant wrap my head around is the suprise of the bow going off, I THINK TO MYSELF, what if my pins not where its supposed to be when it goes off
Understanding perfection is unattainable is a mindset thats worked for me, I just do my best and trust the process - TC
Should you set your release to travel along way (stiffer trigger) or a light trigger to help pull through?
Super good video👍
This is identical to what I teach with regard to barbell training.
what if your pin moves, which it does and when you surprise yourself you are nowhere near the middle

Needed this. 🙏 I am a target panic machine.
Make any progress?
@@warrenmorgan304absolutely
Changed to a hinge release which helped a bunch.
Great video thank you!!!

Just not the same without him shouting (GO) or rubbing an arrow on your hat while your shooting lol
Wonder how this will work with a recurve or longbow.
Joel teaches a lot of archers that shoot recurve or longbows.
So what Joel is trying to do is to make you cognitively present, complete concentration on the tasks at hand. Eliminating all distractions from your mind? Or did I get that wrong?
Got that bowmar button eh?
Yeah I do...
okay. thats cool
The guy has his shit squared away.
Can you use the accubow to train
What I liked about you’re son was he was positive he did poop his pants. I hate the time when you’re pretty sure you did but not completely sure. Then you have a conscious decision to make.
LOL!!!!
Really good info brother! Def subbed to the knowledge 👍🏼.....happy to make you laugh man lol!
Does your tight spot get in the way of your rest cord? I have the same setup and it’s awfully tight
He is a Jedi.....
dudes a killer teacher but he looks JUST like Jim Carrey in Me, Myself & Irene!
Did anyone count how many times that trains horn honked?
Hey Dan I have adhd really bad my mind runs at 100 mph what can I do
have a set of instructions you talk yourself through
Elkshape why dont you switch to a hinge release?
Chris and DeAnna Lindsey I shoot several releases throughout the year: a few thumb buttons, hinges, index, etc...👍🏼
@@ElkShape what is your end goal are you just folding under pressure maybe buck fever just asking?
No none of that, different releases keep ya honest. It's just what I do, probably doesn't work for everyone else. I mainly hunt with a Scott XT hook release.
Mind blown eh dude? LOL
What is your draw length?
27

Thanks Chuck - I did in the press, good catch.
