People has always complained about the noise getting into the car with Hondas. Honda fixed this and now the car is too quiet so they put that speaker thing to shut people up for 1 second.
Comfort mode there is no sound ...at least there is an off mode.. Sport mode yes, you can hear it. +r mode it's about 50% louder than sport, it does sound fake video game like at high rpm especially during rev hang, but it's not that bad. still completely livable.
@@setdecinmotion6719 You can just feel the car though. I've never relied on the sound for know when to shift. Do people actually do that? That aside, I have a 2018. I love Honda but this series has so many contradictions. Talk about saving weight and leaving a moon roof out, but then add all the other tech bells and whistles. Red seats in the back don't add extra weight.
Richard Favreau lol there are so many better cars on the market for 50k, buying a civic at 50k+ is never worth it. I could care less if it’s a Type R, it will be more than 20 years before this car is worth more than 50k if it ever is for how many they are making now 🤷♂️ Even 40k to me is a joke, but at least it’s more justifiable than 50k for a civic. On the used market this car is pretty damn compelling, but with dealer markups can’t see a good reason to over pay for a brand new Type R you will lose money regardless

entertainedbyidiots I got a 2009. Love it so much, I’m modifying the absolute hell out of it. Pistons, header, intake, chip tune, brakes and replaced valves, seals, vtc and timing chain... Matriea, the Mother of Dragons. 🐉
Even though people say 4 cylinders sounds the same I really like how Honda's 4 cylinders sound my uncle purchased a 2019 Accord Touring 2.0t and I like the motor.
I love this generation of Honda Civic. It has been around for half a decade and still considered to be top of the compact car class. i also love how even my old fashioned K20 still averages 34 MPG. Even the startup noise sounds cool lol. Very happy with my car.
Changing the steering wheel from leather is such a bad mistake. They just turn to trash as the oils from your hands ruin it over time. Those kinds of steering wheels are great with gloves on a race track but this is a street car. Aside from that I do like the Type R.
I added a K&N filter to my Type R and it really does boost up the sound of the engine and the blow off valve. Don't need much to make the car sound louder. If you want it even louder, just add an intake.
A sunroof would not add unsprung weight. It would add sprung weight. Unsprung weight is basically suspension, wheels and tires. Sunroof would add extra weight up high which is bad for handling.
Just got the 2020 model... upgraded from 07 g35 coupe with 260k miles. Love it so far.. but the only complaint I have is that the front grill is not mesh but just a flat black plastic piece. Just knit picking here
"Fake noise" shouldn't exist in a sporty car. I love the sound of my 2.0 turbo engine. (mine's a Ford). I prefer to drive with the windows down so I can actually hear it. And the exhaust is pretty cool on this car. They really shouldn't try so hard
We will apologize for the exhaust sound. There is a strict restriction on the exhaust sound by law. (under 92db at 3500rpm) So many OEM in Japan will set the exhaust sound around 83-86db at 3500rmp to pass the inspection test (every 2 years), and keep it under 90db even if the glass wool wears out over time. That is the reason for the exhaust sound being so crappy.
Over 2 years dailying my 2018, some of my complaints are the ride quality is great on smooth roads, but I live in PA, and more often than not, our roads are definitely not smooth. Also, build quality. I've gotten a number of rattles in the interior, and the exterior paint is VERY prone to chipping. Another thing about the power delivery - you want to keep the revs up on this thing because otherwise, at low revs, there's a bit of delay before the turbo boost actually built to rocket the car forward. Will say this though - an aftermarket exhaust (which I have on mine) helps with the car's fairly terrible stock exhaust note.
Planet Earth when I drove it stock for 20,000 miles, I enjoyed/liked it. After I modified it and I’m at 27,000 miles, love it. Stock for stock, type R hands down is a hell of a car. But you rarely use 300+ whp as a daily, so it’s really up to your preference/needs when choosing the vehicle. Given my lifestyle, that is nothing special than being a regular person, I just wanted a daily capable of some fun pulls, use for occasional track days, awd, sun roof, heated front seats, reliable and the wrx was perfect for me. Plus there was no stupid mark up on price. Yes type r is track monster and capable daily, but I live in NYC, doubt it lll be capable of handling snow with all season tires. My wrx pulled through a driveway with an incline in 6+ inches of snow with all season tires when I was vacationing in lake placid in February.

It's interesting that you're just getting a lot of the features we have had in the UK from 2017. You mention blind spot monitors. My 2017 edition has them. I think we had two editions, the Type R and Type R GT, so I'm guessing you're getting some of the things we've had on the GT. All the best and a great video.
The Cup2 Tires and black roof you mention are saved for the Limited. The black Type R in your video has the PRL intake with the logo stencil the same way I have mine!

I would’ve liked to see a more subtle looking CTR like the the Euro spec Sportline, go Stateside for those of us that would like a more mature looking car with a smaller spoiler and not that massive wing and a darker interior with black or grayish front seats without compromising the performance. Although granted maybe the CTR look more naked without that massive rear spoiler. I would like to see the two stand side by side before making a decision to which I actually like and maybe someday buy
I love the power, seat, room, quietness. I prefer the quietness then noise. I am very surprise how well takes the bumps with such low profile tires. I just wish the tires have more rubber for protection of the rims. I wonder if I can disable the exhaust sound though the speakers?
I'm about to go pickup my boost blue 2021. I do plan to daily it most days(I have a beater 91 accord for other times). I think the car looks awesome. Maybe that is me being a honda fanboy from birth, but I think the looks are crazy but so is the car. I'm excited for the practicality and the quick fun side of the car as well.
Sofyan, our canadian Type R actually has the lane watch camera for even the pre refreshed model, as well as standard wireless charging. But blind spot monitoring would be nice.
abcdLeeXY in the UK Honda released a spec of the Type R called “Sport Line” with a low profile rear wing, 19-inch wheels and black seats to appeal to buyers put off by the over-the-top styling
I'd drive it wearing shorts and support socks (with sandals). 65 and checking one out tomorrow. As long as my bike fits with the seats folded, it's a possibility. Hate the interior too.
The only thing i would love to change is adding the center seat to the back. While i rarely have back seat passengers in mine, it would be nice incase i found myself having to drive 4 of my friends. If you're debating getting one, do it, i love mine so much.
I still would love it if they made this same platform but less boy racer, like maybe the next gen ILX’s type S version maybe I drove a type R when I worked at a Nissan, Kia, Honda Acura dealer and it was SOO GOOD but I think it’s SOO over started for me, I like my 04 TL 6spd and how fun it is but looks professional when it needs to be
I don't think there is any manual option on Acura anymore, just look at their new interior, there is no space for traditional shifter but that weird touching pad😂
I think the r has aged great and looks amazing in 2020 I think they were ahead of their time with the styling. Yes it’s a bit gaudy but i think that’s where design is going on the car industry
I think it's pretty crap that Honda didn't give us the option for the stealthy Euro wing or more practical smaller wheels. Alcantara touch points and black wheels are the worst industry trends.
V detailed and informative review as always. One small correction, the shift knob is 90 grams heavier, not lighter. A properly weighted knob lends to that balanced and smooth shift feel.
What about Custom Drive modes?Something I didn’t like about my 2019, I wanted +R Mode acceleration with Comfort mode suspension for highway driving. I just hated the soft acceleration with comfort mode with no way to get around it. I also hated the insane brake dust and clunky shifting, hopefully they addressed all of that now.
And, don't forget to open a separate savings account for replacement of the wheels and tires. Wear and damage are serious concerns! Also, the spare tire is optional!!
The list of things you want added or changed makes it sound like you want a $40,000+ Civic type R. As if the dealer mark-ups I've heard about aren't bad enough! If I could have it my way I'd be fine without a sunroof (for the exact reason Honda gave you), get rid of the amplified engine sound (I expect Hondas to have a subdued sound... like it's a ninja haha), I'd nix the fabric on the steering wheel, and the "nanny" systems would be axed.
A type r MSRP plus tax in cali will run you above 40. This is like when people all got excited for the model 3 Sr+ feeling it it's only 35 reading the website.... Nope... It's not just 35. Just like this car is not just an MSRP price (despite the markups). This car does have a price tag that can be expensive with fees and taxes and reg. Which is why I always thought of just getting a sport an then running a hondata....and then I drove the r and was like damn... Let me just throw myself in more debt... Stupid Honda driving experience... Trust me don't drive this car if your on the fence and don't want to throw away money.
You mention that the lack of sunroof is to save on “un-sprung”weight. Correction, other than the wheels and related hardware attached blow the suspension, the rest of the vehicle is “sprung-weight”. Please be move accurate.
1-2 gear grind 😡 Honda fix that 💩 already! I had it from day one driving home after taking delivery and has been happening intermittently. It’s the delay valve on the slave cylinder which I just had removed. All years have this issue albeit hit or miss and the luck of the draw if you get it on yours.
Not a big fan of the spoiler, wish the sport line was sold in North America. Maybe the Next gen Acura Ilx will see a type s version with the same motor and this can be our more grown up version of the type r. One can only hope.
28:12 I just don't get it with the Golf R prestige. People put this car on par with the CTR but from going out to autox/HPDE events, their performance hasn't impressed me at all. The Golf GTI TCR is a faster car than the Golf R but yet, that car could barely keep up with a Hyundai i30N on track, let alone a CTR. I just have to ask WHY people put the Golf R in the same performance league as a CTR when it really isn't.
Also totally different experience driving a Golf R and Type R. I test drove both before buying my Type R. Golf R is okay but doesnt feel that special or fun. The Type R actually has personality. I love this thing.
that interior bruh...ha ha, i agree with you; sure the golf r is great in a straight line and can be tuned aggressively too, but stock? no thanks; CTR all day every day.
Now is a good time to buy a civic type R due to the pandemic that's going on in the world right now they're still 2019 sitting in a parking lot at dealerships for at lease more than 6 months
The problem he mentioned at 22:54 is a common problem that was happening in all cars, it was caused by a bug in Waze. The problem is now fixed, they released an update 3 days ago with a fix for this issue
I was waiting for the 2021 limited edition but Honda California told me that it won't be release this September. I instead got the 2020 Rallye Red Type R.
Good video. From a UK 2018 FK8 owner the infotainment is CRAP (too laggy) but at least you now have a row of buttons down the side. I just do not use mine, it is on BBC Radio 2 and there it stays. I cannot afford the risk of taking my eyes off the road to see where I am touching on the screen. I always have a set of leather driving gloves on, so save marking the wheel and it is just a nicer experience but the wheel buttons are too small and too many. My last car Renaultsport Magane has paddles behind the wheel for volume and mute. We get a better deal over the pond as our engines are quoted at 316HP and I fuel mine with Shell V-Power 99 RON. Can't see me going for a 2020 model, I will just wait. Hopefully the next one will have a larger fuel tank.
Honda did wrong with the nonsense enhanced sound from the civic si... and why in the world did they have to add Honda sensing package, I thought this was their enthusiast car
Just an FYI, the Waze issue is NOT the car's fault. It was a Waze bug affecting tons of people in tons of different cars. An update has fixed this now.
Wish the Black 2017 CTR was driven as comparison, as I saw that it had mods. Would've loved to have heard the aftermarket intake, which in itself enhances the driving experience tenfold, as the pronounced blow off sound is intoxicating. No need for fake, digital audio sounds...🤦♂️ What's the point of bringing older models (especially one with mods) as comparison, when you only did an exterior comparison. Opportunity missed.
I just wish the Honda Civic type R had a normal duel exhaust or quad like the WRX and sound a little bit more aggressive to match the looks. Plus I think the duel or quad exhaust will settle down the looks of the type R. Because rn it looks a tad bit to much. But still a great car and I bet it perform well on the track.
Supposedly there is a bug in WAZE causing an issue with CarPlay. My Focus ST with Sync3 will bug out with volume control during music playback. I have yet to try it with iOS 13.5 released yesterday but I did read it was a bug with WAZE itself.
Yea my gripe with this car is the fact that you got those stupid lines or whatever on the vents, the exhaust being so damn quiet(driving the N type is amazing and super fun to drive and the exhaust is just absolutely amazing).
Honda keeps badly outdated infotainment systems in their cars. Big problem in current generation Civic is very low seats. When you are tall you almost feel like sitting on the ground. Dashboard is very high, you feel like sitting inside a bucket. Previous gen Civic was way more comfortable to sit in.
I hate exhaust sound through speakers. Speakers are for music.

I love my 2019 Rallye Red Type R
I still would love it if they made this same platform but less boy racer, like maybe the next gen ILX’s type S version maybe
I drove a type R when I worked at a Nissan, Kia, Honda Acura dealer and it was SOO GOOD but I think it’s SOO over started for me,
I like my 04 TL 6spd and how fun it is but looks professional when it needs to be
“I wish they had a sunroof” and those sunglasses, lol.
😆😆 you know we are all waiting for the Acura type S now and praying a 3rd pedal
Yeah a ILX type S type this same powertrain with the option of the 10 speed from the RDX it would be my dream
@@romulas-cushmanproject3273 Get a 2.0T Accord sport then😂same power train but detuned with that 10AT seem to be a great option to you
I don't think there is any manual option on Acura anymore, just look at their new interior, there is no space for traditional shifter but that weird touching pad😂
@@kencai6803 I am with you. No manual for Acura.
Keep on praying
I like that Active Sound Control, it makes more engine noises in the cabin!
I think the r has aged great and looks amazing in 2020 I think they were ahead of their time with the styling. Yes it’s a bit gaudy but i think that’s where design is going on the car industry
No
@@deanmarr785 🤣
I think it's pretty crap that Honda didn't give us the option for the stealthy Euro wing or more practical smaller wheels. Alcantara touch points and black wheels are the worst industry trends.
New age Honda is shit
V detailed and informative review as always. One small correction, the shift knob is 90 grams heavier, not lighter. A properly weighted knob lends to that balanced and smooth shift feel.
One of the hottest intros man...great video!
I’m experiencing the same thing with the Waze in my 2019 Mazda CX-5. I deleted Waze off my phone and it fixed the issue
a civic hatchback exl is what i wanted for a first car but when i heard of the type r.. it made me rethink all my thoughts on it
And, don't forget to open a separate savings account for replacement of the wheels and tires.
Not so much not being accurate, more like not grasping the concept of unsprung weight, otherwise how do you make a mistake like that in a review.
I absolutely love my 2019 the 2020 updates are very welcome I wish it came on the car since 2017
Argenis Perez , hi. Do you experience the 2nd gear grind or the 4th gear lockout 2017 2018 and 2019 owners complain about?
1-2 gear grind 😡 Honda fix that 💩 already! I had it from day one driving home after taking delivery and has been happening intermittently. It’s the delay valve on the slave cylinder which I just had removed. All years have this issue albeit hit or miss and the luck of the draw if you get it on yours.
What's been your detailed experience since you removed the delay valve?
How and where can i find a video to remove this thing
Fr shit is annoying and embarrassing.
i have the 2019 honda civic hatchback rn and this is a real life dream ....
Not a big fan of the spoiler, wish the sport line was sold in North America. Maybe the Next gen Acura Ilx will see a type s version with the same motor and this can be our more grown up version of the type r. One can only hope.
I agree, plus sport came with 19" wheels. A R for grown ups, at least this grown up
To appeal to Millennials, Honda made the Civic Type R’s look like full size Hot Wheels
Lol! True! ☝️
Those colors are dope af 🤘🏼🔥❤️🖤💙

I just don't get it with the Golf R prestige.
Got the first 2020 CtR in the Bay Area. Love it and worth the wait.
Imagine this exact car in RWD 🤤
Why
Actually they left space in the back for a 4wheel drive set up
Sofyan, did you encounter the 2nd gear grind and the 4th gear lockout owners from MY 2017, 2018 & 2019 complained to honda?
Am i the only one that loves the big wing ??? 🤣
I love mine haha
Hopefully the next one will have a larger fuel tank.
you have some realy good POINTS and i wish HONDA will listen to you and the rest of the honda fan boys
Honda did wrong with the nonsense enhanced sound from the civic si... and why in the world did they have to add Honda sensing package, I thought this was their enthusiast car
The add ons that arent needed in this car are poeple bitching abought it , so honda added it just like the volume button
2019 best year
How does adaptive cruise control work in an manual transmission car?
The rear seats was because it being a “sprited Race Car” they were meant to be removed easily and caged for track use
Sofyan! There's a 2021 Acura TLX Type S teaser! Can't wait to hear your opinion on it and then review of the debut next week
Wow, you give us a ton of info in every sentence. Thank you. I'd like to see how well the headlights cover the road.
I prefer Aegean blue to boost blue
Just an FYI, the Waze issue is NOT the car's fault. It was a Waze bug affecting tons of people in tons of different cars. An update has fixed this now.
I just bought a Rally Red 2020 Type R!
I’ve had my 2019 CTR for 3 months now and nothing but great things to say about the car
I usually dislike red cars but this rallye red is something else🥵
I was blown away that you didn't get Lane Watch in the 20. My '20 MY19 has it. Did you get LKAS in the US?
Man that black one looks beautiful. I ache how much I want this car
Wish the Black 2017 CTR was driven as comparison, as I saw that it had mods.
Would've loved to have heard the aftermarket intake, which in itself enhances the driving experience tenfold, as the pronounced blow off sound is intoxicating. No need for fake, digital audio sounds...🤦♂️
What's the point of bringing older models (especially one with mods) as comparison, when you only did an exterior comparison.
Opportunity missed.
Shouldn’t Active Sound Control be ASC rather than ACS which is being constantly mentioned? 14:50
Yeah what the hell were they thinking with the steering wheel material?! The previous leather wrap is amazing
Esse TYPE R É UM SONHO !!
By the end of next year hopefully have my deposit ready for either a 2019 or 2020 Type-R can't wait it's an awesome looking machine.
How much is it in your country? And how much are you going to deposit? I am from Australia and it costs around 35-50k
@@Jun2894 £25k in the used market here in the UK but hopefully I find one for £20k where I will either deposit £5-£10k
Please upgrade your production to 4k, it'd look so much better 🙂
Totally agree with the lack of blind spot monitor and subpar infotainment system. come on honda
I like the Sport Line's smaller wing. To me, it's what that car needed.
It’s preference. For me the lower the better. Bmw 3 series has it perfect. Old civics were too high.
Hard to get excited for this exhaust when a Kia Forte GT’s exhaust puts this to shame.
