Reply to this comment with your best pirate Type ARRR pun. Oh, and read the full review here: edmu.in/2Tlg1De
It's great that you guys got the carwow stick of truth concept
rrrrrr you sure about that.
We know that pirates can’t be journalists. Cause they Type AARRR way too much
LARRRLOS Cago!
I like you keeping it real about the Type RRReal
When I was 20 years younger, I would drive a Type R as an everyday, even in traffic. At my age, the improvements to the 2020 Type R have me thinking about a Type R again. I might get old, but it seems the Type R idea does not necessarily get old. :-)
I enjoy this reviewer. You can tell he's a good driver, but he doesn't get bogged down in speed and concentrates on things that a purchaser would really want to know. Thank you.
Carlos is really professional 👍
I'm 43 and I daily mine. I have two sets of oem wheels. One set with Sport Cup2 and the other set with all season 245/35-20 for a bit more sidewall to be more forgiving on bumpy roads.
All you lucky dawgs !!! hahaha
I am 40... ermm wait I forgot... ah right 43 this year and I 'vant one !!! (a CTR)
I also drove a '91 Si that I had tuned to all the bits for beating absolutely everything in sight on backroads, so yeah, we're all the same here I think ^^
Im 42 and have a 2019 type r. Once the stock Continentals wore out at about 10K miles, I switched to Michelin Pilot sport 4S!!!
I'm amused that people who are 40-something are replying because my 40's were over two decades ago! LOL.... :-)
I love it when a Honda is out performing so many other performance cars in the world and is FWD. Honda has made a monster that not many cars will ever want to track time compete with. Like he said no other cars can even come close to the comparison in the class.
Thank u for honest humble review....it's rare nowadays)
What!!
It really is!!!
Always great reviews from you Carlos! However, this video spent a lot of time talking about the new active sound but we never heard it once at WOT in +R mode! Just cruising in top gear on a back road. 🤷♂️arrrrrr!! (My type R pun)
when are u getting a Type R? :P i know you love Type Rs
Azzashi May pick up a CPO one someday, but we’ll see. The buggy Honda sensing and active sound is a bit of a turnoff for me with the 2020s. I’m really curious to see what Toyota does here with the Yaris drivetrain in the US.
Had my 1st vtec experience driving my buddy's gsr, you always remember your first.
As someone who has just hit 33,000 in my 2019 Type R, I wish I had some of these updates on my car. Good news, I can get the new brake rotor assembly put in when I wear these ones out 🙃
I too have a 2019 Type R and will most likely get the new rotor setup when its time to change. Damnnn 33k miles already on a 2019? ive had mine for almost 11 months and just hit 6k miles yesterday. Haven't driven it too much since this quarantine.
@@TwinTurboFX I owned my 2018 for a year and a half and I'm at 6k miles lol. Not much driving to do during this quarantine. I'll be upgrading to those 2 piece rotors too! But I'm going with a less aggressive brake pad. It gets tiring cleaning up all that brake dust!
TwinTurboFX I’ll also be upgrading when the time comes. My 2019 only has about 3,800 miles. I wonder if the grill upgrade is an easy swap too.
Jonny O nah..I just don’t drive a lot period. I drive like 5000-7000 miles a year.
Dammm son I have 2018 and I’m at 5500 ish ...where r u goin lol
I'm coming from a 2015 mk7 Golf R which I just got rid of a few months ago. I'm really in love with the Type R in Gray. I don't care what anyone says I think it's stunning with those flare fenders from a rear diagonal view. So mean looking... And I know it'll be a hell of a lot more fun than my DSG golf R with its numb steering and so so handling. And front wheel bias AWD which was useless except on launch. What I really like about the golf R was the individual option where I could keep the steering and transmission etc in race or Sport, yet put the DCC suspension in comfort or normal. I saw that the Type R can be adjusted from normal to sport to track but you can't adjust them individually correct? So I guess when you put the car in track or Sport, then the suspension also stiffens up without the option to leave the suspension in a softer setting. I live in South Florida and the roads are as smooth as anywhere in the world without a pothole existing so does anyone care to weigh in on how harsh the ride is for daily useespecially since I don't have to worry about rough roads? I had my golf R lowered with h&R Springs and rear sway bars, with a tune and full bolt-ons so I'm assuming I won't mind the ride but just curious if anyone has any opinion going from one to the other. Really looking for a driver's car and I'm not a big fan of the focus RS interior and that it's a Ford.
I'm 57, daily drive a '17 911, and love this car!
My honda type R has 330 hp STOCK on 98 fuel (Euro) (282 km/h top speed). It can lost traction in FW at 5th gear - it don`t need`s more powa. This car dont needs breaking improvements . This car dont needs suspension improvements. This car dont needs louder exhaust ( ...What about long distance traveling? plus ;u want to drive fast and draging attention to yrself? u like tickets? ) THIS CAR NEEDS : 1) new infotainment system ( current one is a useless trash) , 2) new sound system with subwoofer - current one sounds like 1990 accord taxi. 3) Configurable startup ! when u start engine - car will always sets Sport mode (hardned suspension) and auto-stop engine - u need to reconfigure it every time when u want to drive it.insane!
I got great mpg on my 2018 model. If your cruising on the highway, you can get 40 mpg or close to it. It a great over all car. It has great performance and easy to live with. The 4 doors and hatch back comes in handing when you have kids and dogs. It’s a great car.
You had an Integra GS-R say whaaaaaat lol
As an owner of a '19 Type R, I can tell you the car is amazing. Negatives are you feel every bump and it feels like a huge one in reality it's not. It will shake the entire car where my other cars just roll over it with a tiny little bump feeling. The tires are so thin that you MUST buy wheel and tire warranty when you buy this car!!! I was driving mine home on the interstate after buying it, 27 miles in I hit a pothole (in Florida mind you) and bam...wheel was bent!! You see this all over the Facebook groups, horrible tires, many guys downsize to 18 or 19" wheels. Great car but spend the extra few hundred on the wheel warranty, I've had to use mine twice in the last year alone. Those wheels MSRP for 1300 bucks at the dealer.....Great family car:)
I couldn’t agree more. The thing with our cars is we have to change the tires after getting the car, which I think is dumb. :( but everything you said is 100% true.
Hey man. I wanted to know if yours is having the 2nd gear grind. I want to get a Type R but I’m afraid of the transmission issues some owners have been reporting.
The Honda Civic Type-R Sportline would have me as a customer, but the current North American Type-R with what I think is a gaudy looking rear wing is just too outlandish for my taste.
I think if Honda brought the Sportline to North America that they would sell many more.
Car buying Day Dreaming, Thank you RUclips reviews :-) ....Carlos Largo, One of the best Car reviewers..... CNET Brian Cooley is fun to watch too, but Carlos reviews gives me a better overview of the cars I always wonder about how it would be to drive them :-) .... as a car guy, it's nice to see other cars being driven and get the opinion of car guys like Cooley and Carlos, since I can't afford to drive so many cars, like most of use ... but Carlos reviews are very Good. Keep it up, thanks
A thorough and comprehensive review. Well worth my time.
fcuk , i wish it came in with a Dual Clutch Transmission + All Wheel Drive option !!! , would be great for all seasons and daily driving
Appears you may be in the market for a VW.
I love to watch reviews like this. I love honda civic. Even though I dont know how to drive, I always daydreaming to have one of the these type r. But it was just an imagination hehe.. damn its hard to be poor hehehe
Awesome car!! I love the channel! I own a 2019 Type R and have only put 2,900 miles on it in a bit over a year! I have been in the hospital often with health problems so I haven’t been able to drive much!! I broke my tibia and fibula On my upper ankle and I haven’t been able to drive Manuel transmission with my injury on my left leg! It’s been killin me not to be able to drive! I am a big Honda fan!! Prior to my 19’ Type R I owned 4 different civic Si’s over the span of a decade!! I owned three different generations of Si between the 4 Si’s!! I owned a 09’ , 12’, 14’, And a 17’ all sedans! I think the upgrades on the 2020 Type R’s are great but I have mine paid off and I bought it for MSRP! Yes the upgrades are great but since Honda didn’t add horsepower numbers on the 2020 I think I’ll keep mine! I would I rather have the 2020 but there isn’t enough for me to trade up !! Keep up the amazing content! I love the channel!! I look forward to the next video!! 🚙👍🏽😀🚙👍🏽😀
Hey! Get well soon and don't get hurt again!!!
Feel better man! You’ll be out there rowing gears through ur Type R in no time
Why in world didn't they sell this car with a set of Michelin Pilot Sport cup tires.
Continentals are okay but they are a Far Cry away from the Michelin Pilot sport cup series
You didn’t mention the most important part of the change, ie the volume knob! 🎶🎶🎶 😁
😀 the knob was introduced for the 2019 model
I love how the Honda Civic Type R is still a great family car!
One of the best reviews I've seen yet on RUclips. Thank you!
Only problem is dealers marking the price up like crooks. If it wasn’t for that I would’ve traded in my car for it
I say the same. Never bought at MSRP so definitely not paying markups.
they need to bring the Touring version from Europe over, with the small wing and black interior
more grown up
I like this car! In the EU, they have a Sport trim that has a smaller rear wing.
@@lamesamelame I agree Sergio. I think 18 inch or 19 inch rims are ideal for most roads with potholes.
I think the wing or spoiler on the type r sport line is from the si
I wish we got that version here
I'll take it with the OEM wing
Personally, I think the ridiculous spoiler is part of the whole Type R appeal. But you gotta give Honda credit for offering options.
This is the car that in 20 years will be a classic and people will look for it like they do those old Integra type S models.
Do you mean the Type R and not the Type S?
the vent hole on the passenger side bumper tilts me because the driver side doesnt have one.
Same here.. I like symmetry
Honda hit a home run with this generation's Type R. I am the proud owner of a 2019 Type R and LOVE it and I ESPECIALLY love the way it looks! To me the way it looks with that huge, beautiful spoiler reminds me when I look at it, I did not pay for a "regular" Civic because I sure did not pay "regular" Civic money for it. This thing looks like a "hot hatch".
I am happy for the improvements for 2020 but I am 100% fine with my 2019 and don't feel like I am missing anything important especially seeing how I have a physical volume button :) I love the leather steering wheel of the 2017-2019 and I also love the look and feel of the round "cue ball" style shifter knob of the 2017-2019. I don't care for the piped in sound on the 2020 and am not missing the safety features. Our other car is loaded with safety features and I appreciate them but at the same time sometimes I can find myself relying on them too much. Without them in the 2019 car it forces me to pay more attention to my environment and be more alert which is what I want to do especially when driving my Type R. Also I don't know about the reliability of the new Rev Match System combined with the Adaptive Cruise Control set up. It just seams like that will be a head ache to repair when it fails. Another reason why I am glad I don't have it on mine.
I'm just so glad to actually have this car and also very glad I could (1) actually find one at a local dealer and (2) did not have to worry about the huge dealer mark ups. We really got a fantastic deal on our Type R. For those looking for the 2020 Type R keep those 2 things in mind and be prepared for them but after you find your car, sign the paperwork and drive it home you will be so happy to have it the difficulty of getting it will just fade away and be replaced with a HUGE smile :)
BTW, how did this car get away with not having a front license plate installed? I was told, at the dealer, from 2019 on it was illegal in CA to drive without a front plate and the license plate bracket was already predrilled into my front bumper from the dealer and yet this 2020 model does not have it. What is going on here unless Carlos is not in CA.
Is the radiator upgraded or is there just more openings to allow air to hit it?
I totally agree with you about enhanced engine sound. I'm fine with it as long as it actually enhances the true engine sound and not making a 4cyl sound like a 6cyl, or a 6cyl sound like a V8, etc. I look at it as like a rock concert. The band is playing real instruments, but they also go through speakers to fill the space.
The pen test is legitimately the most accurate and important test.
I want a video of all of edmunds drivers in a race across town at 5 o clock in LA traffic. I want to see what vehicles they choose and who navigates traffic the best.
$54k plus tax and license...... a bit spendy but I love it. Sat in one at the dealership when I bought my 2021 Civic Sport Touring.
This thing in person is so clean! Add on some wider rims and my god its perfect
Next year i'm looking forward to getting my first Type-R the FK-8 either a 2018-19 model. The aggressive styling appearance just looks simply awesome especially the red trim interior which is really nice with them very comfortable bucket seats. The Type-R handling is superior i really can't wait to feel the drive.
👍
Great review. To the point and no goofy b.s.
Johnny Lieberman and Carlos Lago are still the best dynamic duo of all time
Such a great review Carlos 💪🏼 💯🔥
Hey Carlos!! Just subscribed because you are here!! You are a very good reviewer. Following!! Love your reviews!!
Love this car the looks the handling a pure drivers car perfect for a 55 year old kid and my wife doesn’t drive stick , she has a nice car so I’m sure she will give me the ok
Props to the 4k video! Great quality
Problem is there should not be any auto rev matching... either you know how to drive manual or you don't
hi all anyone tell me if the 2020 honda type r has the rev match off in sport mode ?i know its on +R mode and have to disable it ,is it the same in sport cheers, as im almost there buying one just annoying turning rev match off every time getting into the car
The tires are the only thing that bother me about this car , I don’t think u can drive this car in the Midwest ! Is there any other 20 inch tires u can run besides the summer tires on this car ?
I love the wheels and overall look but where I drive in Chicago and suburbs the potholes would destroy the wheels every time.
DC2 Integra Type R (01-0252) forever and ever.
To anyone that’s owns a Type R. Is the second gear GRIND problem bad???? I want to buy one but I’ve read that some come with transmission issues. Gear lock out of higher gears and grinding 2nd.
Hello viewers,
I am deciding between the 2020 Golf GTI and the civic type r and am struggling to choose one. You guys can reply stating which one you would chose and why. I am also curious to see which one is faster 0-60 and 1/4 mile so if you know, feel free to let me know
depends what you want really. if you want absolute performance the type r wipes the floor with the GTI. interior and creature comforts is where the GTI has the edge. Hatchback practicality id give to the R for its rear seat space and greater trunk space. Im not sure what the 0-60 and 1/4 mile times for the GTI are but the type R has been measured as low as 4.9s and as high as 6s for 0-60 (FWD with no launch control so its up to you). 1/4 mile for the type R seems to hover between 13.5-14 depending on the launch.
I bet this car is super fun to drive, but it’s wayyyy too out there in looks, I’m much older now and no way I could roll around every day in it. I own a 2020 GTI and it just simply blends in more with subtle hints of performance.
"leave a comment so you can get it out of your system." NICE ^^
Also, a person who drove a GSR "back in the day" checks all the right boxes in my book ;)
SUB'D !
I don't know what its called a hatchback because its bigger than a damn sedan! xD
Does this type r require premium gas or is regular okay?
Does the Type R have rev hang? Thinking of trading in my Si for one someday. Si has tons of rev hang though which ruins the driving experience for me. Would love a Type R but won't bother if it has the rev hang.
No it doesn't. Go test drive, you'll love it.
I would have daily driven this, but the 20” wheels posed too much of a risk for damage on pot-hole ridden American highways.
I liked the honeycomb bottom corners in front!
If only you could get them without the dealer tacking on 5k, 10k, even seen some with 25k over MSRP.
I need the type Rs turbo and rims for my black 2020 sport 2.0.
Great review. I have an identical Type R. Can take my wife, daughter, dog and all our gear for our frequent 350 mile trips in comfort. And I take it to track days. Very few cars that can do both while coming with a manual tranny.
Edmunds pen of truth
Okay, fair enough. When wearing a helmet the need to hear rrrrRPMs is important, but speakers are for music not car engines (that's my option). Maybe they could have put an easy to see rpm light bar somewhere, or a heads up display (or maybe a 3.5mm jack for the engine). It's okay though because I have my car, and that's fine with me.
I threw a pun in there for ya.
You had alot more fun when you reviewed the porsche boxster
I'd like a type R , but I'm not willing to get rid of my camaro ss1LE for a step down in performance .
Step down? In terms off? Hondas are reliable and fast with excellent cornering, the camaro modified may have the straight line, but the honda will have everything else with a 289kph top speed
My dream car, I hope to be able to afford it in 2030 for $25,000. Saving up for it Honda!
Lol that's a long way my dude. Just start investing in the stock market.
It’ll be more like 20k by then unless someone keeps it as a show car lmao.(which would be dumb because its meant to be driven).
You have no idea how bad I want a Type R or a new Toyota 86 order with the options I want
They just won't throw in the rear sear center armrest huh!?
I dont like the huge spoiler wing in the rear, there must better looking way to improve the aerodynamics !!!!
Should I get Honda Civic type R or Ford Focus RS
If you don't need AWD go Type R. Really depends which car you like better, I have a Type R so im leaning that way lol. Although the Focus RS was considered they just were not really around and I was not comfortable buying used... heard bad stories about the headgasket repairs not being done correctly. The Type R is pretty reliable, the only weak point is the transmission.
The car is a performer. Style wise not really my cup of tea. Can you imagine if they would have made an R back on the 8th gen coupe? That would have been a sweet-looking car!
Great job!
4 cylinder turbos sound beautiful to me
And I drive a diesel V8 😄
Exceptional video, thank you.
Are they not gonna show what's under the hood?
Why no 5 seats
Dealer markup is insane on these cars brought a volestor N instead
Why can newcomer Hyundai to the hot hatch market provide a very satisfying exhaust note in the Veloster N, while veteran Honda can't?
Honda it's really time to get your act together for the 2021 Type R, with a raw active exhaust that matches the cars over the top exterior.
which is worth to buy compared with wrx sti then ?
Both great choose what you like most. I'd go with the Type R///
Larlos Cago!!!
The 2020 type r is proof that car makers don't give a fuck about what the person on the ground thinks
Can you de-activate the auto Rev matching?
Yes
Nissan370Z Glass ok boomer
Not to be that person but the white balance is terrible. Everything seems so white. Like there's a transparent effect over the video.
They should make
One in a 2 door
Love it but it’s fugly! I’d buy it right now but can’t get past the look. I hope the next gen is an improvement. Or if they would sell the sport line type r. If not the sport line at least the option of the sport line’s black bucket seats. Give us older guys some options!
I'm in +R mode all the time, because of two words Type R.
Huh wasnt a high revving engine what defined a type r????
Yaa 🤔 Love the TypeR and the 5th generation is my favourite looking while the Ek9 is my favourite sounding...I'm still not sure if spending the extra $1000+ to get the 2020 but I guess since 2 piece rotors and brakes with stiffer springs I believe and weight loss might amount to the extra cash you shell out 🤔👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿 so I'm leaning closer to 2020 over the 2019 cause I like the rear end on the 2020, more So than the front end with the 'Nike Swoosh' body color, they added to differentiate from the previous models. My way (2019 front end mixed with the 2020 rear end hehe if I had my hands in the final design) @honda #typer
American muscle cars are real sounds the faster. Like the Hemi Challenger or SS Comero or GM V Cadillac .. Anyone agrees in 2021
Nice car
Great video. Miss your reviews on MT. The rev match system does change with drive mode. So in +R it does match revs considerably more quickly, and in comfort it is kind it lazy. I assume you were using +R on the track anyway, however. As for the brakes, they can be fitted to the 2017-2019 FK8 and the FK2 as well for that matter. But you have to replace both the pads and the rotors, as the rotors are thicker and the pads are thinner. Which is fine, since the rear brakes wear out 2-3 times more quickly than the front because of the active handling using inside rear brake to help in corners.
At 180inches this is NOT a hot hatch! It’s massive compared to the Cooper or even the Golf!
The exhaust pipes remind me of Mort from family guy
Can u fit a baby seat 💺 on the back seats?
Yes I have two car seats in mine.
does this car come in automatic transmission?
Fun car for sure
I bet Girodisc makes a two piece rotor for this car.
This is a great car!
I’ll just wait for the 2022 redesigned Type R.
That’ll be a long wait though, plus the dealer mark ups will be crazy the first 2 years.
I bet the curb rash on these rims will be real bad...replacing them will be super expensive too..wish they had optional 17s...
Nah 17s won't clear the brakes. They just don't work modern on cars. Also 3 years in only a pothole and off track excursions have slightly scratched one of wheels barely noticeable. Trick is to back into your parking spot and not suck at navigating tight spaces.
Few are outfitting their Type R’s with aftermarket 19’s, people are saying that the look is more proportional.
what? no heated seats? savages!
Is tht a sports car?
