The Type R still dominates the FWD performance scene. We detail the changes good and bad including the cooling system. Fun and affordable sports cars are dying off and the factories being idled this may be a critical time to buy one. The VW Golf R, Veloster N, Miata, Focus RS, and 370Z are the other options.

Can you defeat the engine noise?
Yes by removing the glove box surround and plastics and removing a wiring harness to module. They did not give you a normal way to turn it off.
Nobody like fake moans, just give it to me the way it is.
@@savagegeese That's similar to how you unplug the fake noise box in a GTI/Golf R, except you have to get at it from under the hood (I know, because I scraped up my hand doing it myself when the VW service department wouldn't). Why why why is it like this? It would solve every problem I have with fake engine noise if these companies would just give them an on/off switch so some of us could just turn it off and forget about it forever. Would be the simplest thing in the world.
Whoever invented the fake engine noise fad should be shot, revived and shot again for good measure.
I have an accord 2.0t manual and yes I unplugged the anc module and it eliminated the fake engine noise
You know Honda made a good car when all people have to complain about are the fake vents.
Well said
And how they overheat on track
@@ianholmquist8492 Watch the video.
What about the problem with transmission grinding?
@@giovanhagar not sure if they made any improvements but I have a 2019 CTR and never had any issues with grinding. I think mostly is 2017-2018 cars, but not to say 2019 cars don’t have this issue but I don’t hear about as many complaints.
As far as the overheating they opened up the grill to help with that but plenty of cars over heat on the track if you aren’t careful. You have to remember it’s turbo four cylinder so it’s going to make some heat but from what I understand it’s not every CTR that gets tracked over heats.
I love the new Civic Type R! I shaved 53 seconds off my work commute!
Must be nice to not have traffic.
How long is your commute? 😏
🤣🤣facts
That’s a win in my book lol
hahaha
I was deciding among an STI, GTI, CIVIC TYPE R, and Veloster N. Thanks to a silver lining of quarantine, I got to drive every car by myself. The Veloster for me took last place overall. Well after having my mind blown by the type R, I couldn't justify the price because a used STI seemed to be a better deal. I got into a 2016 STI and was told to "take my time" test driving. I slammed it for 45 minutes and gave it a real hard thought and came to a conclusion: I called the Honda dealership and bought my 2020 Type R in the Subaru parking lot that day.
I'm kinda in the same spot man, i was set on a sti, then the type r and veloster N came out couldnt decide ended up getting a tacoma because life happened haha. Maybe in 3 years the new sti finally comes out.
I’m coming from a 2016 Sti myself and I like the 2020 type r so much better.
I have the 2005 Sti as well and the 2016 doesn’t stack up to that car either imo. I’m not sure if I can put a finger on it, but the engine feels less perky, suspension feels more numb and the car feels like it was being kept from realizing it’s full potential. I guess if I were to choose one word, dull comes to mind. I just had more fun driving the 2005.
@@timkono5645 I agree. I think the 2005 is less burdened with mandated safety and emissions equipment, less insulation, thinner glass making the 2005 lighter. This would make it have better power to weight ratio which would make it faster and handle better.
I walked out of Honda and bought an AWD Stinger GT 3.3TT and it was 3k cheaper.I used that 3k to get an exhaust and geomet rotors all the way around.
@@doctorrobert60 One thing i can notice right away is that the hood is aluminum on the 04/05 sti and believe the roof as well which was done for weight savings. Lastly, there is no antenna as it is integrated into the rear window with the defroster. I also did a side to side visual comparo with the 05 engine and there are more lines and more attachments, which tells me that the engine was updated quite a bit to meet the emmissions regs you mention. it not just optimizes the cars performance with these little tweaks, it also makes the car's overall look very simple.
8 months later and I still enjoy watching this video- it never gets old!
Difference from the first time watching this video vs. now? I own this 2020 Type R now and watching the video is just as good as actually going out for a drive in it.
Guilty of the same thing ❤
Once i sat in one of them and thought: Damn, i'm gonna buy this one. Then i remembered that i am broke.
My grim, but privileged reality too 😥🤣
They are half the price now..😂
Good thing they come off lease in 2 or 3 years with low mileage. That's how I'm getting my 2020 Lexus GS - F with the naturally aspirated V8 in 2022.
Were can i get one half the price unless it was in a wreck and fixed to sell or beat up in a track .
@@opadilla123 they are not half priced off that person needs to pass that weed
I am in my mid 40s and I LOVE my 2019 Civic Type R. I guess I am old because I am not going to change a thing! As you get older you value something called a warranty and there is no way I am going to mess that up. If I want to go faster I have FORZA. As a husband and a father of a teenager this car is a keeper for sure. As we get into a time where some people want to electrify everything on 4 wheels I believe drivers cars like the Civic Type R represent the pinnacle of gas powered cars. Sure electric cars may be quicker but there is no better bond between man and machine than a great engine, a balanced chassis and a good manual. This car will stay in our family to remind my children of what cars that were meant to be driven felt like vs the cars that drive you. Aside from the barfing, great job all around. You might want to get that checked out though.
Civic as the pinnacle of gas powered cars...LMFAO Ok, you like your Civic. Cool. But take your foot off the hyperbole pedal.
@@jamesvelvet3612 OK. I guess reading carefully does not count. I said cars "like" the Civic Type R but it is not the only one. The way Honda set up the smooth power delivery in this 300+ HP car that gets close to 30 MPGs is pretty impressive and this is all with great reliability so I do stand by my claim that the Type R represents one of the cars that is at the pinnacle of gas powered tech. Did you know, the Type R just set another new record this time on the Suzuka Race Track? Also Engineering Explained has a good explanation of how well designed the Type R engine is: ruclips.net/video/BtkGMUY-4hs/видео.html
That’s why I’m never getting rid of my 8th si. That car is a even further embodiment of truly connecting with your car.
looks fun as hell
@Camaro 1968 not ugly, but not everyone will like this flashy happy-go-lucky spaceship styling. I opted for the 2019 mazda 3 sedan instead, just because of the styling alone, even though the Honda is 2x faster and it handles better (there was a 15%off deal at the end of 2019 on the Type-r, making it close in price with my full-spec mazda, so it wasn't the price).
Bought mine a year ago after turning 61, best and most fun car I've ever had.
2019 Type R owner here. I appreciate that you sum up the looks very well. You either love it or hate it and it definitely not for everyone. A lot of automotive youtubers miss the point of what this car is and go off about the styling and lots of BS comes out of their mouths. Honda knew what they were designing and thats why the type r is such a desirable car and the value of it remains strong.
Agreed. The styling isn’t really my thing, but I also don’t care enough to say no. It’s the price that I just can’t get to in this stage of my life. So thank you for buying one. Maybe I’ll be able to afford one used one day.
I some what agree. Honda could have put that drivetrain, engine and Type R badge into pretty much anything and it would have sold and been special. I mean, I would not buy a Civic HB because I don’t like it’s looks but I would buy a Type R because of the engine/drivetrain.
Danielson Gomes pretty much applies to every vehicle. Can’t please everyone. The critics of the type R are just blabber mouths that couldn’t be objective. I’m not digging the type R, but I respect it and the reasoning behind the design.
Must be irritating as fuck to wash - bet it dribbles water for ages out of all those nooks and crannies no matter how much you air blast it.
Danielson Gomes what did you pay for it?
This godsend car is one of the few reviewed new cars I might actually buy.
I have a 18' and love it! Do it!
x6dingle6x Same! Incredible car.
I would have bought this if it were out when I was car shopping a few years ago... ended up with an SS 1LE which was just sitting on a lot inconspicuously
@@joe718gt4 not a bad choice either way I wouldn't feel bad with an SS
Looking to buy one now and all I can say is good luck. They’re all sold as soon as they get delivered to someone on the waiting list, probably for $43-$45k
This car runs circles around any Subaru including the S209. From seating position, steering feedback, shifter feel, ride, body rigidity, interior room and comfort, cornering precision/overall handling, high speed stability, linear power delivery ......I literally can’t think of any area other than perhaps engine sound where this car isn’t so far superior and the fact that it gets there with FWD is like winning an ass kicking contest with only one leg. I’ll admit I thought this car was ridiculous when Honda first announced it was going to do an over 300HP front wheel drive car in a segment that already had (at the time 2017) some great AWD competition but after spending time in one it’s truly a world class driving experience coming from someone who has owned several Porsche GT cars. The fact that it barely depreciates (assuming you can purchase one for MSRP?) and maintains it value also speaks volumes to what a great car it is
Remember there's always going to be a little hate for honda but the truth is there no way subaru is better than Honda to much quality in Honda brand
14:10 You can see how well Type-R eat that corner on Mark's face.
We love my wife’s 2019 Type R. We put a Delrin shifter knob on it because the OEM knob gets waaaaay too hot in the sun; we tinted the windows and; we fitted 18” Enkei wheels with Michelin PS4 tires 245/40/18’s. Those changes have delivered absolute perfection as a daily driver. Love these cars😍
Robert Rishel excellent choice of wheels. Those 19’s are stupid and a tire blowout waiting to happen.
Great job on the mods. Practical and aesthetic 👌🏼
@@lotsofcurveslover They're actually 20s and they're there for a reason it's to clear the brakes and increase rigidity in the corners
@@rudigerjones4798 try driving those 20's here in the Detroit area. My Evo has 18's with 13.8" rotors, the same exact size as the CTR.
You don’t need 20” or even 19” wheels to clear the CTR’s brakes. They’re not that huge. Supercars with 400+ mm brakes need 20” wheels. The CTR’s work fine with 18”s.

I'm 46 and I don't. But I do make snarky comments on RUclips.
Picked up a 2020 6 weeks ago and same age.
How do you like it?
@@ciello___8307 click on his profile. he's got a few videos on it.
I'm 56. Kinda thinking of considering a CTR as a purchase. The lack of feel put me off, though. I mean, I love to drive and the way the car feels, which in large part includes the feedback from the road, is everything to me.
I'm 40 and I bought mine last year. I mulled around buying and SUV and saw 40K stickers. I decided to go back and have a look at a Type R as it was 4 door as well, the room inside is huge, almost Accord like just a few years ago! It is so comfortable as well with plenty of power to make it fun for a dad mobile. I love how much room the trunk has so I can toss a stroller and bags in there with ease. I passed on a 2000 Integra Type R back then when they were new and said I would never make that mistake again and bought my current type R and have been so happy with it meeting my needs. If you are considering a WRX STI, go drive one of these, you probably will end up buying them. I wasn't allowed to test drive so I jumped in a Facebook group and asked someone locally if I could drive theirs and they were so friendly and helpful to let me drive it. It's the perfect Dad car for the man who still wants speed in his life! Now, if only they would do an Odyssey or Accord Type R!!!
Nice to see the changes. Seems like they are finding a balance of updates for the their crowd, but also maintaining their product cost and placement . I still love the hatch style and would rock this thing. Awesome video!
Mr. Goose,
As previously said, your original review was what convinced me to bite the bullet and buy the 2018 MY.
To the day, I regularly track it, do shopping runs, and take the kids to daycare.
Cheers from Romania!
Does it overheat on track? Many of these do
@@ianholmquist8492 I track it at a 2.6 mi track.
I've put the new 2-piece OEM rotors, track pads (Ferodo DS 3.12), braided lines and fluid. All else stock.
In 60⁰F weather I can run two laps back to back and then I need to do a cool-down lap.
Realistically, I'm happy with it.
More laps would mean more aggressive changes and I'm still under the 5 year warranty.
Hope it helps, let me know if you need more details.
The FK8 will go down in history as one of the last great non-electrified performance Hondas of the Turbo (post-NA) era. Just like the s2000 was a game changer in 1999, the FK8 sent many competitors back to the drawing board. Now bring back the s2000 Honda!
I'm still in love with that color. absolutely phenomenal video as always Mr. Goose. happy for the improvements, this car deserves it

I like the TypeR but I'll never know for sure if I want to buy one because no dealership will let me test drive one.
Yeah that's messed up
Two dealerships let me. Find a used one on a Honda lot, or better yet, on a non-Honda lot.
I found two of them for rent on Turo near me. They might be available in your area. If i was serious about buying it then I would pay the $100 to have it for a full day and have an extended test drive to make sure I like it. And I wouldn't have to deal with dealership sales people.
William Bellis III did they let you test drive a new one?

As a very happy 41 y.o. 2019 CTR owner, I have to admit I don't feel like its aesthetics may (or should) fit a specific demographic category. As a friend of mine said: "it's a very honest car: its looks speak volumes of what the car is all about". It *looks* aggressive because it has a *very* aggressive soul - which suits me just fine (balding and grey hairs in my beard included :D ).

Man, I love your reviews. Your passion for driving is palpable. Thank you for your work.
Good job once again! I’ve owned several vehicles, and by far my 19 CTR is my all around favorite. I can’t imagine ever getting rid of it.
Jack's calves...a godsend. Nice review gents, fell down the rabbit hole this week and it has been a joy to watch.
The 2021 Civic Type R just lapped Suzuka faster than a Ferrari F40. The Type R is an amazing car. Fast in straight line speed, amazing in the corners, and has incredible grip. Tremendously fun to drive.
Technically that was the limited edition Type R that isn’t released yet.

Gotta say, i was always wanting this car since it came lut but did not realize just how good it was til i bought mine. This car makes u wanna drive it all the damn time regardless who ur going. Also, as far as the car lookin very aggressive and over the top, about 40% of the ctrs i see on the road are older mid 40s men who i guess just couldnt get over how good the car DRIVES. Fantastic video! Best one on youtube for sure! I had a 2018 CTR, and unfortunately had it stolen recently, which broke my heart.. I have a 2021 on order and look forward to experiencing these new changes!
One of the most informative videos on this car! Thank you
another amazing video. Outside of some brake pad woes I went through with Carbotech for the track, the Type R is an amazing car. I considered upgrading from my 2019 to the 2020 but it's just not enough additional value for me to trade up. Maybe I am weird, but at 37 years old I have no issues with the styling but I also love my german car styling as well. I don't take a hard stance on the flashiness of the Type R aesthetic vs. my much more refined B9 S4 or E92 M3. I love them all. This video sums up the Type R so well. I would encourage anyone considering one of these cars to take what this video says to heart. As someone who has owned this for 16 months now I love it and added a few cooling bits like upgraded intercooler, also upgraded to a Mugen steering wheel and short shifter/knob...with some good tires it's really an amazing "do everything" car. It's more enjoyable at Road America than my M3, and it's practical with the hatch space and 4 doors and the Comfort mode of adaptive dampening is really amazing for what this car is.
I do have concerns about the computers in the car as it ages and reliability over time which is completely unproven, but I think as Mark says - you need to weigh everything when it comes to cars, and something to weigh is "if you want a modern car, you will potentially sacrifice some autonomy and ability to DIY fix some things or maintain your car on the cheap" but the upside in this case is that there really isn't anything that does what the Type R does for a driving enthusiast as a daily, practical machine. And to those of us who have bought the car, it's well worth it.
All you really need for these more modern cars is a decent scanner, that has bidirectional controls, which you can pick up for around $300-$500 on places like Amazon.
With that in hand and some googling skills, or even better a personal subscription to ALLDATA, you can DIY anything.
this is my dream car ever since it came out,
I was looking at videos years after years! someone like my age could never pay for this...
I'm 23 years old and with some luck in my life, I did it!
I achieved my goal and made it happen. my dream came out, and finally, I can get my type R from the honda shop nearby straight out of the showroom.

But watching it, I appreciate some of these tasteful and artistic touches.
Thank you for adding index. Many other reviewers should do this.
I think I will forever like the exterior styling. Maybe its the fact that it looks so extravagant, maybe its the fact that imo looks a lot better than the previous CTR, maybe its both.
But I genuinely feel like it looks great, and would rather have it looking the way it does, than a much more subtle thing.
Mabey it’s because I’m 17, but I love it too
I agree, it's beautiful like most Honda's from about 2003 upwards. I don't get all the hate that this and the WRX get. These cars are very Japanese styled and sort of manga futuristic which is so interesting to look at. I find 90s Japanese cars to have the most bland boring styling which everyone seems to love these days.
Yup it looks great
please Honda: get us a new S2000 COUPE/RWD around this engine! Pleeease
Now that's a car I'd consider buying!
Thing would snap. These bigger more powerful engines just require more robust components and that would make the S2000 cost $60k+. Plus the frame would have to be completely redesigned. It wouldn't be the same car you know and love (cough cough Toyota Supra)
@@bassandspaceable If honda made a new s2000 it would probably be an excellent car and at 60k people would still buy it, I know I would. Honda completely delivered on the type r the car community in the real world loves it unlike the supra. Honda wouldn't fuck up the s2000 like Toyota did the supra. Just because the s2k will be different from the older one doesn't mean it won't be better. The new type r is more fun than any other type r it's the first one to be serious attempt at being a sports car. It's leaps and bound different from the older type rs and it's wildly successful and respected. As long as the s2k has a honda engine and a track tuned suspension it will sell just fine. Why you would assume honda would go the route of Toyota makes zero sense.
@@rudigerjones4798 I actually own a Type R and I came about it because I was in the market for a used S2000 but then saw how expensive they were used. @@bassandspaceable Not bigger and more powerful than the LS engines that have been swapped into the S2K and older MX-5s for years.
Mazda still produces the MX-5, and it's still as every bit affordable. Honda could easily build a new S2K with the Turbo 1.5 from the SI to compete with the MX-5 and have a Type-R model with the Turbo 2.0.
Maybe Mazda would even respond by packing the ND2 with a Turbo 2.0.

I had driven this car twice in the track. The experience was amazing. I said it was magic. The mechanical part of it is excellent but I really don't like fake engine noise and fake vents.
When mark shifts down just before the final thoughts , rev-maching his downshifts its sounds like it's an auto shifting unit . . . This guy shifts consistently like a machine.
CTR has Auto Rev Match; I hate this.
Antithetical to Soichiro's vision. Learning is part of the experience; ease of use being baked into the vehicle is something a lot of manufacturers are shifting towards. I hate it.

I despise crossovers as do many car enthusiasts but we aren't the majority. Small modern families with practicality needs and a desire to sit higher are the majority. It's sad that we won't get a basic car that's also a perfect enthusiast car again. We can always get close in a more modern way.
Man i was just catching up with the CTSV review...and this comes out :)
Thanks for the details on the 2020 updates
Loved the video! As always keep up the great work! Also since you guys have been doing some older cars as well. Have you thought about doing a Nissan 350z? In particular a nismo or clean 07/08 one. Not sure what else you have planned and how you pick between cars, but I just really enjoy your reviews and wish you could review all cars haha
Just bought myself a Polished Metal Metallic 2020 TR yesterday!⭐️❤️
Congratulations. I picked up my PMM a few months ago. Loving it.
I think that for a while, mostly in the early 2010s Honda/Acura kind of lost their way in sporty cars but they are definitely in the upswing now. Very excited about the new Acura TLX Type S, MDX and the Accord and Civic are great.
Had a 2018 Accord 2.0T manual, traded it in for a 2019 Bullitt, that car (the Accord) makes you want more power, front wheels constantly spinning, but a great sedan.
Also, Honda just slashed the manual in the Accord. :(
This is the most positive you guys have ever been on a car grrwt video as usual
Very detailed and great analysis.
If Honda can make this why can't they just give us the S2000 back?
Maybe because sports car market gains them less revenue than economy car market? It's still sad tho
@@christmasisawesome9348 True, but they could just partner with Mazda. Take the Miata platform, and make a new S2000 with the Type-R powertrain.
Because souping up an existing economy car is much more cost effective than making one from scratch.
Most of the people who can afford this have a family now and want something practical but still want to live the fast and the furious life.
An updated S2000 with this engine would be all the sports car most people need, like an engineer's wet dream of a MGB.
Such an amazing car. I have a 2018 and cant get enough. The styling is a little crazy but to me that was the appeal. Golf r looked too plain. Sti is too old. Focus rs is gone. I wanted something new. Something different. I think overheating is a big issue with those who run aggressive tunes. My final thoughts are that as a young kid I watched the car scene blow up with body kits and wheel mods. Never had enough money to make it happen so I spectated. Fast forward to 2018 I bought my car with that same child like excitement except instead of having some horrible looking body kit that doesnt fit honda gave all the exterior flare like a body kit from the factory. I know there are people who will still mod this car but too me you can run stock and the car looks like you spent money doing a legit custom design. Great review
Great review as always boys
Great review! didn’t know about the app, thanks!
I daily drive a GT86 and test drove the CTR today. The power from this driveline is incredible. I love the pedal responds and mechanical shift feel. The directness reminds me of my s2k, it almost felt NA. Many say the sound this four popper makes doesn't match its looks but I wasn't disappointed with the sound. More loudness would make it too ricy for me.
The art of FWD is perfected in this car BUT.. I still notice the unrest in the steering when pushing the car. When driving my 86 home I immediately felt what I miss in the CTR. The test car had 11K miles on it and the front tires were almost done. They go for about $200-300 a piece so the consumables on the car seem to be high (with the 86 I do double the miles of spirited driving and the tires are still reasonable).
Driving the car in comfort mode it felt too wobbly for me. I guess drive modes are fashionable these days but I would be happy with some ohlins or KWs if that would lower cost and complexity.
Bottom line... I'm not sure if I can part with the 86... the 86 dances with you and you feel it with the hips. The CTR is brilliant in its way but I like how Mark says "it makes you wish for Honda to do something RWD".
tysm, tossing up between 86 and ctr. made up my mind :)
great review, however i was waiting the whole time for them to point out the alcantara steering wheel as being a con but never mentioned it. keep it up guys. we need more likes and dislikes, if youre watching the video try to leave one!
You really enjoyed this car I can tell. Great video as always.
You Geese deserve many many more subs! Great content.
I guess I'm not normal for my demographic cause I love the looks of the car and have since it came out. I'm in the same demographic as you Mark but I wouldn't change a thing looks wise. I still have never been in one but hopefully that will change one day.
After this review I get even more excited to buy the Civic Type R, which I already plan to do. I am currently the owner of a Nissan GT-R SpecV and this is the only car that can replace my SpecV with dignity regarding my wishes. Nice review and keep them coming !
Its worth believe me
to be honest id keep the specv im planning on getting the type r and upgrading to a gtr in a few years
Don’t buy the Civic type r it is junk and riddled with problems. I have owned one and it was a nightmare of second gear grinding
@@Fatboyray1 I've had one for 2 years now and I dont have that problem.
Dont sell your car. It will be worth $400,000 someday soon when we move to electric
I love my pre-lift version, with same sonic grey color :). Thank guys for doing a great job. Cheers.
This is literally my favourite generation of Civics. I’ve only got a regular civic FK5 because I simply can’t afford it. I honestly wish this Type R would stick around forever. I love this look so much and dream to have one, one day 🥺
This is and will be one of the best sport car for this price range.
The only problem is the rear body design. It's not bad but it's just too too...
I think it is the best one for the money. A bmw 240 would be closest
I wish I could get over the looks of the entire 10th gen Civic in its entirety. I have always bought Hondas and this time around when I needed a new commuter I went with the Corolla hatch because I just hate the way these cars look. Hard to argue how good it is. If I could have this car and never have to look at the outside, and just enjoy the drive, I would be happy to have one in my driveway. For now I keep my K20 powered Civic SI as a weekend ripper.
1996-2005 is the best body style of the Civic in general. Design just got worse and worse every generation after.
excellent presentation guys. Thank you
Savagegeese-The production level of your videos is super high end
the engine cover made me think of my lawnmower, and I love hate this car, hate the exterior design, love the performance offered
Yeah, I don't like that cover at all... Spoon offer a red version of the actual valve cover which should be standard fit IMO (and no silly beauty cover): cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1406/5370/products/t_FK8_e3_83_98_e3_83_83_e3_83_89_e3_82_ab_e3_83_90_e3_83_bc_e3_83_ac_e3_83_83_e3_83_89.jpg?v=1550375666 Apart from being plastic, it doesn't look that different to the old metal valve cover.
I'm in my 20s and I still think it looks garish, particularly the faux vents on the front and rear bumpers (I guess there's about one square inch of cutout in the front that's actually functional). Wouldn't mind if the next gen civic was just a heavy refresh of this architecture but then need to change the front and rear bumper covers and get rid of all that black plastic, something I thought they'd do in the refresh but apparently weren't listening. Ohh, and I'd like it if they offered the civic si as a hatch and the sport as a sedan (wouldn't more people with an auto and a semi sporty model prefer a sedan?). I understand why they don't do that though, want to further separate the si from the type r buy having different body styles. Still, for the price, a civic si as a hatch back and with more conservative styling and less rev hang would be just about the perfect daily
Trevor Hsu better to offer the R as a coupe. I bought the Si only because the hatch looks the worst of the 3 body styles for myself and the coupe reminds me somewhat of my previous Integra 5R. Had a R been offered as a coupe I would have easily grabbed it up.
I agree, I really like the sporty look of the GTI vs Type R
Trevor Hsu I agree, if they would offer a smaller spoiler I would buy it, but it’s just too gaudy.
one issue with the japanese were that they were horrendous at designing cars that on a universal level, doesn't look completely idiotic. If you visit Japan you will know what I mean, although at least within their own culture that's perfectly acceptable and even something to culturally appreciate. However, Jeremey Clarkson got it right that when they had to attract the younger masculine western market, they simply went and adopted a design inspiration that was entirely European. See for example the birth of the Lexus LS400, employing their top designers to sunbathe in sunny california for a few months to observe and then steal styling cues from bits from Mercedes, others from BMW, others from well, Mercedes lol. Another clearer example would be the NSX and Ferrari's at the time. In a sense the JDM design culture is borne out of the Japanese desperation to appeal to the horsepower thirsty Westerner, of course the little twists and subtle changes within them eventually defined what came to be known as the JDM car culture, now looking unique on their own.
Yet for some strange reason they still can't quite get it right themselves after all these years. The new NSX for example, completely designed by a white American woman who is also pretty young and kinda hot. On the other hand, the distinctive presence of the E36 is actually quite easy to explain, as that was designed by a Japanese car designer, and it's probably one of the most badass looking BMW's ever made. I'm dreading to find out who designed the LS500 as I consider that my favorite car of all time in terms of pure beauty, fingers crossed the Japanese weaved themselves a metallic masterpiece.
Jay H the 2nd gen NSX was not completely penned by the lady you are speaking of. She came along after the design was essentially completed and cleaned it up.
Thanks for the update of the update
The 10th gen Civic (Type R) became Honda's new platform for WTCR when WTCC adopted TCR regulations in 2018: 2000cc turbo, factory car, FWD racing. They needed an entirely new AND production engine away from the HR412E 1.6T hence why we get the new Civic Type R and K20C1. A lot of racing regulations heavily dictate the final design of sports cars and motorcycles sold to consumers.
Just imagine if this had the double wishbone suspension upfront. :)
I've had my type r for a year and a half, and it is easily the best dual purpose car I have had. Comfortable on the street and enough room for the kids. Also very enjoyable on the track. The looks are going to be subjective, but with smaller wheels the car looks much better in my opinion.
The wheels look great. It's a smaller wing that would make it look better.
I feel the same with my si.
"It shows you what Honda is capable of doing when they put the energy and effort into it." So true.
Superb vídeo! High quality
