    Unless you're willing to flash a modified BIOS, you're loosing at least about 15% performance running any Arc card in these older OEM systems as Arc is designed around Resizable BAR and these systems have no way to enable it despite being supported by anything with PCIe Gen3. Granted, the RX 6400 isn't really an option either since it's problematic in Gen3 slots and the 1650 is just too expensive, and you mind as well get the 3050 6GB. Hopefully the 3050 6GB will push used 1650 LP prices down to a more reasonable level, but I've managed to grab a couple for around $100, and that's what I would suggest people with these system buy.

      H61/H81 chipsets for 3rd/4th generation (which is what is in the Optiplex 3010 and 3020) only support PCIe 2.0, so a modified BIOS may or may not help in this case. But I wouldn't be surprised to see it for the Optis since they're so popular.
      I would have liked to see him run some actual GAMES, not just 3DMark.
      Oh, hey... we meet again. lol

      @@SeeJayPlayGames You're absolutely right, the 3010 and 3020 are Gen2 only, so the BIOS mod would be worthless for those people, but the system in the video is a 7010 which uses the Q77 chipset and definitely has Gen3. So it would absolutely work, but I don't think it's worth, even thought the A380 is really the best value at around $100 right now in the LP market... at least for a new card. It's just that modifying a BIOS and flashing it to the system is super risky for most.
      But yeah, I would have liked to see some actual games testing as well. Still might be better than resorting to something like a 1050 Ti or an RX 560 on the used market. I'm currently working on a bunch of testing with a ton of LP cards, A380 included. So, I'll be finding out for sure.

      Been working on follow-up video showing how to use ReBarUEFI by xCuri0 to modify the BIOS and demonstrate the difference in games, but ran into unexpected difficulty specific to Dell. I’m pinning your comment to help ensure viewers are aware, and if I can’t get it working soon, I’ll have to take down this video - I don’t want people thinking they can modify the BIOS with ReBarUEFI in this particular Dell if it’s not possible or that games are playable without it. In my experience, it wasn’t just a performance decrease, but the games stuttered bad enough to be unplayable. I’ll work on new videos demonstrating it in a different brand of old office PC with PCIe Gen3.

    • @SeeJayPlayGames
      @SeeJayPlayGames 10 месяцев назад +1

      @@TheGameBench oh, you're right, I didn't realize it was a 7010 when I posted that. And yeah, flashing the BIOS would be a risk, but we're talking about a $100 system on the line here. Certainly a risk my broke ass wouldn't care to take, but people with more money might dare.
      I just wish there were more decent single-slot low-profile cards for this market. I got into SFF because I was in a transitional period of my life and needed something that would be easier to move with. And for that, it's been a good machine. Though I have to say, buying one of these machines has made me resolve to not do such a limiting thing again... next time I'm going with a full-sized PC that can take a real video card. And probably not a DELL anything. Maybe Lenovo P520 or HP Z4 G4.

    I have seen several YT vids on not using resizable bar on the ARC series. Seems to hobble the GPU by about 15%. YMMV. I think you could make a video with this setup, and show how well it plays some older and less demanding titles. Since the vid card could be transferred into a new build, down the road, you might get a mom/dad who want to upgrade the old Dell in the garage for the kids to play minecraft, roblox, or something similar, and then move the card to an upgraded PC in a year or two as the kids get older.

  • @Raintiger88
    @Raintiger88 10 месяцев назад

    I'm going thru what you went through right now. Except, my A380 fans stop spinning just after it starts booting. I've had to put a fan on the A380 to prevent overheat. Doing the install/uninstall of the card in my test bench with B460 and i3-10100 has trashed that boot drive. I'm not trying to get it working on a Thinkcenter M Series with 16GB RAM and an i7-3700. Still can't get it to work.

    • @Raintiger88
      @Raintiger88 10 месяцев назад

      @mayconrj2149 Without the fans? Absolutely it won't. It gets REALLY hot and I know this because when I first trying getting the card to work, it was in my test MB with i310100. The fans would not turn more than a second while it waited for the drivers to load. The card locked up during the driver install and it burned my hand when I reached down to see how hot it was. Your only option is the Sparkle which is a single slot card. I did get it working in the Thinkcenter following pretty much what the author of this channel did. I put it back in my test MB and now, oddly, the fans turn as they should. However, I could not get it to work at all (stuck on VGA light during boot). I 100% do not recommend this card to anyone.

    • @Raintiger88
      @Raintiger88 10 месяцев назад

      @mayconrj2149 @mayconrj2149 I commented on this, but it doesn't seem to have posted. Bottom line is absolutely no. If you need single slot, look for a Sparkle card. Single slot and will work for you. I posed my experience with the B460 on pcmasterrace. PS: 100% do not recommend anyone buy this card. I did get it to work on the thinkcenter, but as others have already mentioned - performance is less due to the lack of resizable bar. I put this back in the B460M, but cannot get it to boot (stuck on VGA LED on MB). Oddly, the fans spin now just as they should on that MB. Installing the intel drivers seems to flash the BIOS on the GPU which is something they should tell you if it's true. I did not do extensive tests on the Thinkcenter, but it appears only marginally faster than the 780M on Ryzen APUs. That's sad, if true

      They don't. You'll leave about 15% performance, or more, with it disabled and you can't enable Re-Bar in the BIOS on these older systems even though it's a supported feature of any system with PCIe Gen3.

    Thanks for the review. It be great to get a follow up on real performance rather than synthetic. My 7010 sff is currently on order and I have really been torn into which GPU. Never considered the A380. Ideally, the 1050TI or 1650 would be preferred but prices in Australia 2nd hand are just ridiculous. My 7010 will be used for emulation so almost willing to go down the not so ideal 1030 route (the DDR5 variant).
    Pretty keen to run some Teknoparrot games as a bonus hence the Navidia GPU preference but to be realistic , I think the 1030 is lacking a bit of fire power.
    I did come across a 1050ti variant from AliExpress made by GraphicsPlayer for $200 Australian dollars.
    Not a lot on intel out there regarding these.
    Anybody here got any idea if worthy of a gamble? Or maybe give this ARC a bit more consideration?

    • @OptiGPU
      @OptiGPU  9 месяцев назад

      For performance, I’d recommend GTX 1650 or RTX a2000. How much more are each of those right now in your country? I’ve seen the 1650 price come down recently in the US. The problem with the a380 is lack of Resizable BAR support in PCs older than 10th gen. There is a workaround that should work for gen 3, but I haven’t been able to get it to work with Dell’s BIOS. A follow up on performance in games is coming, but without getting ReBarUEFI to work, it’s not pretty.

    • @langers503
      @langers503 9 месяцев назад

      Look forward to the follow up :)
      Yes totally agree that the 1650 is the preferred choice but just out of reach financially. Currently if you can source on eBay or marketplace, folks asking anywhere from $320-400 US dollars and a little more expensive for the A2000. 1050TI a bit more realistic but have noticed they are snapped up very quickly. Seen 1050’s sell for around the $100 US mark here, but very hard to get. For the time being I’ve just snapped up a new 1030 (DDR5 Variant) which will be fine for now and will run most emulated games I throw at it and a few teknoparrot games. Just can’t justify spending that sort of cash at recommend GPU’s. It just defeats the purpose of building a cheap emulation system. Might as well put those funds towards a full rebuild using a 3060 for example and have the best of both worlds utilizing for newer games as well as emulation.
      The RX6400 looks like a good option at around $160 US dollars but again, being a AMD card , prob not a good option for teknoparrot.
