As a Francophile and French teacher with a penchant for history, architecture and renovation, I’m very excited to see what you’ll do with that amazing place. The grounds are my favorite. Maybe someday we’ll have a French chateau story of my own to share!
So very excited for you all! It is going to be spectacular to join along with you on your family’s new adventure. The chateau is truly amazing. ♥️ Why chateau? Well its the ultimate fantasy for most of us, the romance of history, the architecture , that master of craftsmanship, the story of the people and life in and around them.
Why dream of a chateau? That's easy. They are magical! Not just the building itself, but the gardens, the grounds. It creates a magical space that invites special people. Just look at Lalande. It's no wonder that most people discovered The Chateau Diaries during lockdown. There are those who look at the world, and then there are those who "create" a world. I wish you good luck. Your chateau looks absolutely beautiful and I can't wait to see your journey.
I love all things old, especially castles, homes, buildings and the restoration of them. I am not that interested in owning a castle/chateau, but the restoration and history is what fascinates me. My dream is a little cottage by the sea, but I do admire those who take on these projects. Looking forward to what your channel brings.
It's very exciting to be able to follow your journey right from the very beginning. And since most of the ETTC-DIY chatelains are Brits, I will be interested to see it from an American point of view. Best wishes and I'll be watching from Louisville Kentucky!
Actually there are a number of different châtelains from different countries, including America, but as ETTC was initially produced as a program of Brits finding life in France for Brits to watch, until it took off around the world and created the ETTC-DIY spin off, it was servicing that community. I don't think there is any particular 'point of view' for following these owners except for the love of history, gourgeous/sometimes derelict and all so interesting, DIY, and following how their lives change and move with the pace of French living, no matter what country they started from, we all enjoy watching

There’s a lot more that’s relatable on the personal level, and it’s easier to identify with their humor and emotions for me. I’m inspired differently too. (Not that I don’t also appreciate all the other folks out there too, but my 🐥🐥🐥are have a special place in my heart always.)
You have put a lot of thought in this vlog. It's almost like a little philosophical essay. This so different from so many other chateau channels. I like this stile and i find it very promising for the next videos. (BTW: love the chime of your clock)

Chateau for me means community. A big house where a collection of adopted and blood related family lives, loves, and works together for the betterment of the whole group. That's why I love watching Chateau diaries, and Doing it Ourselves, and many of the other vloggers as well. I am so glad you'll be documenting the process to attain visas and the whole journey to ex-pat and live in France. I am super interested in all the hoops (I'm sure it's not riveting, but for someone who may want to do it herself one day, good info to know). I patiently wait for your next chapter to unfold.
Being a history buff, I have always loved anything old. I always wonder The who, what, where, why, and how of it. You have an amazing adventure ahead of you. I’m excited to follow along. Questions: Do you have an estimated date for move in? What are your plans for the chateau? What skill sets do each of you bring to the chateau? 😊
This was a very eloquent dissertation of your thoughts upon Chateau! I feel I should tell you -until I got my DNA results in 2018, I never knew I had so much French ancestry. Unlike my other family members, I was drawn to baroque music, castles , chateau & as an artist I migrated toward pastel painting exclusively. After a deep ancestry search, I learned my ancestors were Hugenots from Meaux France who escaped murder by decree of King Louis XIV ! They were educated and skilled in all manner of refinements. They owned castles and landed estates, all which was taken by force because they defied the Catholic Church and would not convert. Those who did not die in France or on the shores but made it into England are my direct ancestors. Trying to condense this into 1 paragraph, I need to tell you I learned from a professor who studied these matters, there is such a thing as "inherited Memory" passed down through DNA. I experienced this when my spouse & I visited the real Biltmore Chateau in NC. I felt as though I had been there before, so much so that I did not feel at home anywhere else. I cried seeing the majestic mountains of N.C and everything about the way they lived was part of my true identity. In 1999 my grandaughter was born & I took care of her everyday my daughter was at University studying for a degree. She is the only one in all my family including extended ones that is very nearly like me. She credits her love of culture, the arts, music and even the French she speaks -to me. My thought is perhaps you might consider a deep search into your own roots to see if you have that lineage also. I also learned many of my close family lived in those exact locations, but I simply did not know. Blessings to you all!

Scrolling down I saw other dear friends, Anna and Philipp of Chateau Le Fleur, and scrolled down to find your story. So of course I looked you up on YT and discovered that Stephanie, Philip and Davie advised and helped you with the purchase of your Fairytale Chateau! You have amazing mentors! Anna and Philipp in Normandy are also delightful, resourceful and their vlogs are very entertaining. Philipp is also a filmmaker but you will know that already. I subscribed to your channel and am looking forward to watch your vlogs tonight. Welcome to the family! About myself, I am Birgitt, a lady of a certain age. I am a German - Dutch retired business woman living in TX. First of all, anyone that saw Stephanie’s tour of your new chateau would have no question as to why you bought it without being able to view it in person. It’s spectacular by anyone’s definition. As to how I got here, it kinda beats the hell outta me. 🤷♀️ My love is really in contemporary Art and Architecture, with an emphasis on small space design and multi-function furniture. I love seeing rooms and furnishings that fold out and in like origami to meet several needs, as well as their creative storage solutions. I subscribe to many channels of that ilk. That said I’m no minimalist, and collect Art Glass and fine pens. The serendipity of RUclips first sent me How to Renovate a Chateau (Without Killing Your Partner), I guess because I watch a lot of stuff from outside the USA. I stayed because of the top drawer filming/editing/scripting and humor. It was there that I first saw Stephanie and checked out her channel, bingeing my way through her playlists. I love Stephanie’s channels for the vibe and the people, basically they’re just a whole lotta fun to hang with! I connect with Stephanie and Philip, and Chateau living, in the love of objects, Architecture and furniture, and their appreciation for collections. There are a number of minimalists on the small space channels that deride the accumulation of objects, and I can’t help but wonder where they think great museums come from, and how Artists can work full time without collectors? So that’s the VERY long winded answer on how I got here. You can always enjoy and learn from good taste and design - from any era!

How happy was I when I received the notification that you had put up a new video for us. I am glad that we will meet each of you before you leave for France. This is the first time that I will be able to see and learn more about the chateau owners before the journey starts.as for your question… To me, chateau represents beauty, yet very very sturdy. It’s our past. They are old and sometimes stingy, but it becomes a place of marvellous beauty when a team of patient people restores it. They are also a place for finding treasures that don’t exist on this side of the ocean. Our family history started there, so there is also the curiosity of seeing what our ancestors saw and did and of course to take a peek in the homes (chateaux)that still stand . Thank you again for accepting to share your lives and your journey!

In 1977 I was an au pair with a family in France and visited some of the beautiful chateaux de la Loire. That was the start of my love affair with these buildings in France. It's wonderful to see many chateaux being developed and becoming beautiful homes for the 21st century.
I am looking forward to your adventures in France with your new life in the chateau. You’re already ahead of the game because your production values and ability to speak about your future journey is very good. There are now many vlogs, everyone wants to own a piece of the pie. Inevitably they become redundant and boring. I don’t think that’s going to happen with you because of your professional background. Keep it fresh. Can’t wait.
Really looking forward to following your journey. I have often thought that the reason Chateau appeals to so many of us in this modern age, is because not only of the history that comes with every brick of the building and that is something we do not have a lot of coming from young countries (like Australia and America) but because of community. We are often so divided in our modern-day living and I truly believe that many of us, long and seek connection on that broader community basis. Chateaus were meant to be inhabited by communities of people. Two people rattling around in a 45 room chateau would just not do the place justice I think. Its blossoms with life the more life you cram into it. I see this at LaLande. Thank you for being gracious enough to share your journey with us.

How happy was I when I received the notification that you had put up a new video for us. I am glad that we will meet each of you before you leave for France. This is the first time that I will be able to see and learn more about the chateau owners before the journey starts.as for your question… To me, chateau represents beauty, yet very very sturdy. It’s our past. They are old and sometimes stingy, but it becomes a place of marvellous beauty when a team of patient people restores it. They are also a place for finding treasures that don’t exist on this side of the ocean. Our family history started there, so there is also the curiosity of seeing what our ancestors saw and did and of course to take a peek in the homes (chateaux)that still stand . Thank you again for accepting to share your lives and your journey!

In 1977 I was an au pair with a family in France and visited some of the beautiful chateaux de la Loire. That was the start of my love affair with these buildings in France. It's wonderful to see many chateaux being developed and becoming beautiful homes for the 21st century.

I have often thought that the reason Chateau appeals to so many of us in this modern age, is because not only of the history that comes with every brick of the building and that is something we do not have a lot of coming from young countries (like Australia and America) but because of community. We are often so divided in our modern-day living and I truly believe that many of us, long and seek connection on that broader community basis. Chateaus were meant to be inhabited by communities of people. Two people rattling around in a 45 room chateau would just not do the place justice I think. Its blossoms with life the more life you cram into it. I see this at LaLande. Thank you for being gracious enough to share your journey with us.

In Australia no one beside the millionaires would be able to buy Chateau . Price would be minimum 20 million dollars. France is very lucky that people saving all of the Cheatau, buying and renovating them. if not average people , everything would go in to ruins. Greetings from Australia. =)
