- Welcome back to Dreaming of a Chateau!
In this episode we take you through weeks of preparing Puy Vidal for our very our first creative retreat called "Painting France" which took place in mid-September 2022. We prepare 5 guest bedrooms with bathrooms, create an oil painting studio, furnish outdoor and indoor dining spaces, and clean and polish the Chateau from top to bottom- all in a 12 week period!
Hosting this 7-day all-inclusive oil painting retreat was by far the most challenging goals we could have taken on in our first year in France. We had committed ourselves to delivering the best possible experience for our retreat guests who trusted us with their big international trip since COVID began. What transpired was a magical week filled with twists and turns that inspired and transformed not only Puy Vidal but us as well.
Stay tuned to the end to see the completed bedrooms, common areas, outdoor spaces and more as well as some scenes of our guests enjoying the workshop.
These are the adventures of Julia, her fiancé Caroline, her sister Penelope and her parents Maruca and Robert; an American family taking a leap of faith, living out a long-awaited dream.
Chateau de Puy Vidal is a medieval fortress turned renaissance Castle, and is located in the Charente region of Nouvelle Aquitaine, France. This channel is dedicated to our love of chateaux, old stones, magic, family and history. We share with you our process of applying to visas, setting up a business, purchasing a property sight unseen during COVID all before moving across the world. What happens when your dreams come true?

i have tears of overwhelming joy in my eyes as i am watching the last seconds of the video. So much work and love was put into this preparation and the warmth of the whole atmosphere during the workshop transpired through the screen, simply melting my heart. As a painter myself and lover of France, chateaus and beauty, i would have loved to participate in such environment. Please create another video showing us in detail all the lovely rooms and dining table decorations or even food explorations, because i saw your mother cooking some delicious dinner on the stove. Everything was such a treat for the eyes, i didnt want it to end.

As you film going around from room to room, there are some views that take my breath away. You are so rich in talent, space and inspirations. Keep up your great work. Your guests will be so impressed and inspired as well.
What you did in just a few months is nothing short than amazing. 👏 Your chateau now looks inviting, warm and cosy. Your clever ideas, good taste and attention to detail made all the difference. Well done! The final reveal in the last minutes almost felt a bit rushed after the intense buildup and I would love if you could show the different rooms and spaces in more details if you ever get a chance - as a before/after type of video maybe... BTW, "Chambre bleue" would be be written with an "e" at the end of bleu, because it's une chambre (feminine). Lot of love and keep the wonderful videos coming! 🧡

I was never averse to the pale blue drapes and woodwork colour but with the carpet gone its looks ten times better! Its a very sofisticated blue!

The mattress surfing made me smile :) My mum thought I was crazy when I said, and I'll get a shipping container and ship all our stuff there. Now I can say that you guys did it and it's not such a crazy idea. I think it's just because she sold nearly everything we owned before moving from New Zealand to Australia but I can't part with most of my stuff that I've spent years collecting and also treasure hunting for. I have an antique French display cabinet with a dome and carved dragon and phoenixes that perch on top of the dome I bought for myself a few birthdays ago which was a real bargain that I feel like it will be going back home. Thrifting for treasures and antiques in France to decorate a chateau is a dream, I can't wait and is something I enjoy watching others do ;) The tile paint did wonders. You're very inspiring and motivating!

The twine and springs on the box spring sets was they way they were manufactured and are much more supportive than today's box spring or foundations as they are also called.
