Never reimport your registry backup to restore only this settings ‘just’ to get back to non priority if it’s more than few days after. It will erase any other modification to the registry naturally done since the backup. The backup is to be used only in case of colossal failure/mistake right after this modification.
Correct the backup is solely for a catastrophic issue if you accidentally change something during this process. Not for future use I should have made that more clear.
You're truly brilliant🎉🎉🎉. In my eyes, you surpass Microsoft. After enduring two years of hardship, you managed to resolve the problem with just one step. My setup setup includes a 3090 GPU, 10900 CPU, 32GB of RAM, and a Reverb G2 headset.
So you've got a 1,000 horsepower racing machine and still getting stutters from FS. Now I KNOW it's not the rig, it's the game. How many people needlessly upgraded their hardware just to find out it was poor game optimization the whole time 😂😂
@sgtstedanko7186 Absolutely, I couldn't agree more. I made the leap from a 3070 to a 3090 and put together a new gaming PC specifically for flight simulation. Despite the upgrade, I could barely manage 26 FPS, and the visual quality was quite disappointing. However, things turned around when I stumbled upon the guidance shared by @2020fsers. Microsoft's track record is a bit lacking in terms of completing their products, both on the software and hardware fronts, leading to subpar optimization, as you rightly pointed out. I'm really grateful for following this channel; it's been a game-changer. I was nearly at the point of giving up and considering selling off my PC.
Hey, thank you for all the things you do! I have been following what you show and all the tricks for a long time and they are very helpful. I have a question because I got lost: several times in your videos you showed one small program in which only the used graphics card was marked as a priority, I tried to find it in your videos, but I couldn't find it. Do you remember? Regards
All of your videos are so helpful, thank you very much. I had one question relating to reinstalling the Nvidia drivers directly from the Nvidia website and that was simply this - when you do it that way, is it okay to then update the drivers using something like “DriverEasy” or do you need to update the drivers in the future using the exact same approach? I asked because the detailed process is relatively labour-intensive whereas clicking on driving easy is a lot simpler! Any feedback much appreciated and please keep up the great work
Thanks for the comment.I would probably not use driver easy to update my nvidia driver. If you're talking about my debloat process for removing g force As being a little bit labor-intensive. Than what you can do is just run the driver from nvidia and Select custom install and then uncheck g force. This won't remove all bloatware , but this will get rid of g force which is a main cause of stutters.
You are welcome 😊 hope the pimax goes sooth . I'll be tearing into mine tomorrow I was supposed to on Friday but was editing all day. I have a 3 part series planned for it.
Thanks me too lol I just finished series 1 and editing starts tomorrow. I hope this series can shed some light on the crystal especially fitment . In part 1 I solely check out and compare hardware from the varjo and hp reverb to the pimax as most people will probably be coming from those sets and they are all nice have lol .
Hey mate, just wanted to say that you are a performance badass. Thanks to your tutorials I'm getting much better FPS with my old PC. I will be able to wait until MSFS 24 before buying a new PC. Keep up the great work!
Found the problem with start up connection. For whatever reason, I went into General Options, and saw that " Online Functions" was turned off somehow. Turned them back on and all good. Old age catching up with me. Just purchased the Seneca V, by Carenado. Very nice plane. Really looking forward to the Beechcraft Duke, turboprop. Thanks again.
This was truly a gamechanger... My Flight Sim has way better performance and loading times are really fast compared to how I had it. Thank you for this video! This Helped a lot. My Specs: GPU: RTX 4090 - CPU: I9 13900KF - RAM: 32Gbs
In terms of performance I suppose there is no difference between method 1 and 2. Am I correct? The boredom of method 1 is to do that every time you start MSFS
Awesome. Tonight im flying from birmingham to london at night. Oh yes. I can finally play without any crap. Now i just need to upgrade my Quest Pro to a Varjo Aero and ill be lost in the clouds every night. Cheers bro. Bboy.
Placebo. In Win 10 and lower the active task (game) will always have the highest priority. In Win 11 with Intel E-Cores enabled the task manager will switch the active task to the E-Cores only if it's in the background, then switches it back to the P-Cores as soon as it's active again (fullscreen/mouse in the window). People can trick their mind if they believe something, but not changing the reality itself :)
I guess you will just have to convince everyone that this helped in the comments that it is all a trick and they are not experiencing smoother gameplay in msfs. But then again, if it's all smoke and mirrors then you really don't need to watch this anyway, not to mention your system is running perfectly with no stutters or glitches, or is it ? I'm just trying to wrap my head around someone watching a stutter video if you have no issues.
I tried this tweak yesterday, and I have to say I had a negative result. After double checking the syntax of the regedit entry, here's is what I observed > major video stalls, major sound dropouts, intermittent sound distortion. Game became almost unplayable. I had verified after entering the registry tweak and running flightsimulator.exe, that priority was showing "high". Upon reverting registry back, and eliminating the entry, machine returned to normal. I attribute this outcome to not allowing certain background tasks enough time to complete their interrupt to stream audio and/or video. I do not blame 2020 fs'ers for this problem, and could be due the architecture of my machine, a Corsaire One Pro. I'm only guessing at this outcome. Just be aware that if you experience these issues, you may have to restore your registry as mentioned in the video.
Thanks for your info . This is the main reason I suggest everyone test their system the manual way first to make sure the 2nd method will be worth it to do. But happy you are back to normal .
Hello, I am a loyal follower of your content, since it has helped me a lot to improve the quality of my MSFS. With the new SU13 update, I have more stutters than ever. Do you have any new solution to this? Greetings and thanks in advance.
This worked for me; maybe a couple of FPS more, but the stutters are very much reduced and tolerable now. The main thing I've noticed is the render latency, down from about 20-30ms to virtually zero, flicking between 0.0 and 0.1ms. Maybe that's the key? Anyway, great shout, thanks!
Thank you. My "older" system did not react much better. Watching CPU / GPU usage & temps, noticeable less strain. Stutters still exist. I'm wondering, using this same approach, is it possible to reduce "priority" settings on other system demands - that may - help this MSFS "High Priority" be more effective ? Thoughts ?
No it doesn't work quite like that so most of your services are running as normal or below normal only a select few operate at a high priority. So anything over normal is getting more priority than the normal services . It's just a way to have stages so you can set up others as above normal and some on high and then the pc will prioritize In order of priority . So setting other things lower than normal will essentially do.nothing other than slow down some processes that you may need at normal priority.
Hey man, thanks for all you do! I've just tried one of your other tutorials which makes my sim noticeably smoother, so am looking forward to going through the rest of your videos. I have a question though, I am often limited by main thread and my GPU memory seems to be overloaded, which leads me to suspect that it is the reason behind the many CTD's on long flights (memory!). I often see this without an error message, and many times during cruise away from clouds my game stutters it also happens around terminals or at a totally random stage. I am in the medium range of PC's for MSFS and your one video seems to be the only one out of the many I have seen to have helped with this slightly so far, so I'm wondering whether you could provide any further help on this? Thank you!
Hey, thanks for the comment .. yes I have a couple suggestions . You say the gpu ram is maxed out so I assume the vram? There is another issue of memory leakage but that is on the pc ram that's different. So if you are maxed on vram on the gpu then lower your texture resolution 1 notch ( from high to medium or ultra to high). Second I recommend the islc cleaner program this will help purge your pc ram memory when it starts to build up and help for long haul flights .
Great video. One question. Where is FlightSimulator.exe within the Registry? Can't find it. Also. Are you experiancing connection issues with MSFS? Alot of folks think it's a server issue. What say you?
Hey Steve there's no flightsim.exe folder in this main file that's why we created it. It's only for startup on programs . So msfs is set to be default priority so that's why it doesn't need to be here. As far as connection if we go on past experiences it's most likely the server .
Great video! I have been using this for a couple of years already, changing it in the task manager every time. The priority change also helps you when flying in VR, right ? Or does it juts help in 2d mode ?
Poolshark I’ve found this also helps a bit in VR with all my flight sims. I use oculus/meta headsets and use the free addon Oculus Tray Tool game profiles to set it per app. Works every time I startup msfs and doesn’t require changes to my registry.
Your welcome thanks for the comment. You must be talking about process lasso for the paid program . It is an excellent program and I will do a tutorial on that as well but this way I showed is a great alternate way that we can keep some money in our pockets . 😀
Another Awesome lesson and funny the only airport I have stutters is one near me otherwise it runs like a top so i Ill doing the Ctrl Alt Del thing everytime I fly see if this helps Thank You
Another viewer said that for windows 11 it was the same process . But I don't have win11 so I cannot confirm. It should also work for the steam version.
In Process Lasso, in addition to setting the priority to High, I also disable Windows Dynamic Thread Priority Boosts (I don't remember where I saw this advice). Is there any way of doing this from the registry only?
Hmm ok I'll also take a look at that in process lasso did switching that help you at all? I don't think you can with the registry well maybe you can but I just don't know lol. I also have my system locked at 5.0 ghz on all cores so I don't have dynamic frequency changes.
I gave this registry tweak a spin, and though the gain in fps was small, the sim seems to run smoother. I was flying a helicopter, and flew through the downtown area of my city at low alt. All seemed good. Will this tweak also work for DCS_Beta/MT? Thanks for this! It's a great instruction video. 👍
In theory, Yes, it may help. It should help to some degree for DCS and any other application (game, etc.) that is CPU intensive/CPU bound. If you have an awesome CPU and the bottleneck is the GPU (graphics card), then it won't likely make a _significant_ difference.
This may have solved some of my stutter issues but not yet the cats pajamas. Did a flight KJFK/KJFK and stutters may have been less but still present. I am thinking some of my issues might be with FSLTL. I can be at 45FPS with FP loaded in to the PMDG 737 and once I load up traffic it dips 15-20fps. Would love to know how to cure that.
Try and turn off multi-player and retest that seems to help a good bit when you get close to airports. But there are so many things causing stutters in this sim I hope they fix this soon.
@@2020fsers this MP suggestion has helped greatly. Even though I am not getting 45 fps on takeoff it is much smother and less jerky. What settings would you rec fro FSLTL and scenery draw issues. Thanks
Fsltl I dialed things back a lot 40 ifr flights I think 10 vfr and 5 ground aircraft but the draw distance is around 50 mile for ifr and 10 miles for ground aircraft .
I ran into something similar with FSLTL and Map Enhancement. I set the processor affinity to leave one or two cores free to run "other stuff," and this helped a lot! I've been testing real-time priority and leaving one/two cores free, and this also helps. I don't know which is better yet.
I appreciate these videos but at the same time I am growing tired of having to tweak MSFS2020 on my above average PC. I have 10 cores/20 threads, 32 GB of Memory and a 3080 with 12 GB of memory. Three years after the game release I should be able to load a fresh install of Windows, just load MSFS2020 and fly stutter free but we all know that isn't possible It feels like the sim is built on a house of cards and one new Windows or Nvidia update will cause it to all come crashing down. It feels that way because sometimes that is exactly what happens
Yep i agree and just like with the last idk 1 or 2 drivers , msfs came out and said don't use it because it was causing so many issues ctds . There needs to be much more optimization happening and less worrying about pushing msfs2024. Idk is it just me ?
Thank you for the excellent tutorial! I assume this method would work for other programs as well as long as you test it first (manually) and know the executable file name? Also new subscriber!
I’m able to do the same with the Oculus Tray Tool (OTT). I just setup a game profile for msfs and set the cpu priority to High. Kicks in every time I startup msfs. Works with any Oculus/Meta headset. Doesn’t work with Quest headsets running Virtual Desktop though because that app doesn’t have access to the official Oculus sdk’s. Like you say it does help a bit. Thanks mate and cheers.
Hello, my friend, I have a problem with a simulator, how can I draw a map towards the landing runway, and I watched many videos and found a solution to the problem, but using an autopilot when approaching an airport, a pilot pilots a plane instead of me. Is there a way to draw a flight plan and draw towards the runway or the landing route without using Autopilot Please reply as soon as possible

Thanks for the comment yeah it looks like you have the best cpu for the sim that's out there so this may not help you all that much 😀 but hell yeah on that powerhouse you got there.
That I'm not sure the 3 entered at the end is what tells the pc what priority to run and 3 is the number I would leave it at above normal then because I'm not sure what to tell you to input there.

@@2020fsersyeah dunno! I’m running a Ryzen 5800X3D with a RTX 4090 on an X570 motherboard on “Ultimate Power Plan” so don’t know what/if any factors are causing to set priority to “Above Normal” rather than “High” when 3 is entered for CpuPriority. But FS does seem to be running smoother. 🤔
Hello , as i followed your detailed instructions using the method 2 , i started the sim but unfortunately priority is still in normal. I doubled checked the registry and everything is according your instructions
The instructions are correct. Make absolutely certain that the spelling and upper/lower case is correct. *Any* discrepancy will result it no priority change.
Hi - when I set the priority to high in method 1, it has always stayed in high even after multiple restarts… Is this ok? Shall I just leave it, or still use method 2? Thanks
One comment I would make is in your cut and paste section for the registry, do not copy the dash - in front of "Computer". The stutters have decreased and my FPS has increased 5 to 10%
If MS would do a decent job of coding we wouldnt need to spend two years doing things like this to run their software. Addendum: In Win11 23H2 this caused a issue. When turning my head quickly in VR a micro stutter is noticeable. Had to undo it manually. The exported copy wouldnt write it.
I'm getting screen tearing in MSFS when I run Navigraph or other apps. Never had this before. Like my G-sync isn't working or something. The moment I turn off other apps everything is ok again on the same sim settings. Could it be this higher priority mode or something in Nvidia config?
hmm no its not due to running msfs at high priority i also run those apps with no issues. do you have your vsync off if you are using gsync? also maybe try and turn off you gsync for msfs and try it . i did a performance video not long ago talking about screen tearing and how to eliminate it you may want to check that out . and are you sure its screen tearing and not a stutter issue ?
Anyone using Addons Linker can use the following option to set high priority (no need for registry editor 🙂) OK don't know how to add a snippet to a comment!
@@2020fsers Tools -> Options -> third line down and to the right...check Box "Force high priority". BTW is there a method to add a snippet to these comments? 🙂
Just the fact this game is so resource heavy yet fails in so many critical ways, like flight model. Let's call it what it is. It's not a "flight simulator" but rather "scenery simulator with aircraft models"

This is the problem with MSFS this should never be a problem and they really need to get this fixed, well at least by when FS24 comes out
they need to fix a lot lol . i almost feel like 2020 will fall to the waist side once 20204 comes out idk i hope not .
Thanks brother!!!!
Your welcome thanks for the comment 👍
I tried the same with MSFS 2024 with no luck, can you do the same for 2024? thanks
Budd you are the beat
Throw in an S as well, but remember to remove the A. But the beast wouldn't be too far off either..LOL
Thank you I appreciate it .
Mines in real time, I should change to high? Why is real-time bad? Is it too much priority?
Yes real-time is to high of priority and may cause other services not to perform correctly and cause a crash .
@@2020fsers ok thanks I haven't had a crash so may leave it til I do
For any reason in the future if I want to remove this, is it possible to juste delete FlightSimulator.exe in the registry?
If you want to revert just delete what you created in registry.
what about the set things like spotify to low priority thanks for help in advance
I would not lower the priority of any other programs .
@@2020fsers why not
Lowering their priority may cause issues in response time for those services and programs .
Best thing to do is not run apps like those while simming
@@2020fsers Rog thanks
thank you so much! will this also work on X-Plane 12 and the FenixCDU application?
Yes, you can use this method on any program. Run the program to get thse exe file in the details and follow the rest .
Thanks a lot 👌
Your welcome thanks for the comment 👍
Amazing 🎉 👏
Thank you 😊
Does this work for Windows 11 and is it the same process for the Steam edition of MSFS2020?
Another viewer said that for windows 11 it was the same process . But I don't have win11 so I cannot confirm. It should also work for the steam version.
Nice one.
Thank you !
@@2020fsers I think it helped, but this is just a subjective feeling. I did no scientific test here.
Can you add the reg path for 2024 in you copy paste notes area of this vid? I just did this for 2020 I’d like to do this for 2024 also
Never mind easy with your video
Thank you
I gave this registry tweak a spin, and though the gain in fps was small, the sim seems to run smoother.
Thanks for the comment 👍 yes it will also work for dcs but with the multi core implementation now you mat not notice a difference.
Three years after the game release I should be able to load a fresh install of Windows, just load MSFS2020 and fly stutter free but we all know that isn't possible
It feels like the sim is built on a house of cards and one new Windows or Nvidia update will cause it to all come crashing down.
Win 11 should be similar? Thanks
Im really not sure 😕 I would be the last person to get advice on win 11 it's just something I don't have So i can't try .
Thank you for the excellent tutorial! I assume this method would work for other programs as well as long as you test it first (manually) and know the executable file name? Also new subscriber!
Your welcome thanks for the sub. Yes your correct this will work for any program just follow the same steps and get the executable.
Thank you again!@@2020fsers
I’m able to do the same with the Oculus Tray Tool (OTT). I just setup a game profile for msfs and set the cpu priority to High. Kicks in every time I startup msfs. Works with any Oculus/Meta headset. Doesn’t work with Quest headsets running Virtual Desktop though because that app doesn’t have access to the official Oculus sdk’s. Like you say it does help a bit. Thanks mate and cheers.
Oh awesome i did not know that and I'm sure lots of quest owners don't either thanks for the info 👍
I'm a bit late on this I know but this should work for MSFS2024 too shouldnt it?
Hello, my friend, I have a problem with a simulator, how can I draw a map towards the landing runway, and I watched many videos and found a solution to the problem, but using an autopilot when approaching an airport, a pilot pilots a plane instead of me. Is there a way to draw a flight plan and draw towards the runway or the landing route without using Autopilot Please reply as soon as possible
I use little.navmap and you can draw any flight plan you want and export it to msfs.

fingers crossed ... just had my Flight sim CTD first time ever 40 minutes in ....Brand new build 7800x3d xtx brand 7900xtx 2TB m.2 990 pro Asus Prime B650m-AX Corsair: 32 GB ddr5 5600 850x PSU 6 140mm BeQuiet fans 2 of them on a B/Q 280 aio it runs CPU and GPU 35-70c all set on ultra 60fps showing thread occasionally as the bottleneck gonna try this or just use Eye tracker5 again ...Thanks for the input ....Got it pinned up top for now....PS this all started when they updated in July/August
This tweet won't do anything for your bad ass setup 😄
Thanks for the comment yeah it looks like you have the best cpu for the sim that's out there so this may not help you all that much 😀 but hell yeah on that powerhouse you got there.
I will stick to manual it's no big deal.😊
You can also use addon linker as well
I followed instructions to the letter and double checked but for some reason the priority is at "Above Normal" i.e. not "High" Any Ideas?
That I'm not sure the 3 entered at the end is what tells the pc what priority to run and 3 is the number I would leave it at above normal then because I'm not sure what to tell you to input there.

@@2020fsersyeah dunno! I’m running a Ryzen 5800X3D with a RTX 4090 on an X570 motherboard on “Ultimate Power Plan” so don’t know what/if any factors are causing to set priority to “Above Normal” rather than “High” when 3 is entered for CpuPriority.
But FS does seem to be running smoother. 🤔
Just tried with DCS and it works fine i.e. sets to High. I wonder if its maybe something to with Steam version???
Anything over normal should be ok. But that is strange
@@Texas1FlyBoy Done sir, everything is ok, perfect, thank you so much
Thanks for the help flyboy! 🙂 glad everyone got it working
A third option is to use Process Lasso to permanently make MSFS run in high priority mode.
Yes you can do that to .
This also works for X-Plane 12'
yes you can essentially do this for and program
I can do this with any game. Yes?
Yes but may not make as much improvement as msfs due to the single processor usage of the sim.
Does this also apply for windows 11?
Yes it should
awsome, thanks!
@@2020fsers
You're welcome
am too old a keep forgetting it before a set it
Lol oh come on now we are only as old as we feel at least that's what i tell myself 😆
You really dont need to, windows is smart enough to manage tasks by itself. It will use priority on the program in the foreground anyways.
Hi - when I set the priority to high in method 1, it has always stayed in high even after multiple restarts… Is this ok? Shall I just leave it, or still use method 2? Thanks
well it shouldnt work like that but if it stays in high no need to do method 2
Forgot to mention. I’m on windows 11. Is this still ok?
Yes
Great tip. Thankyou.
Your welcome thanks for the comment
One comment I would make is in your cut and paste section for the registry, do not copy the dash - in front of "Computer". The stutters have decreased and my FPS has increased 5 to 10%
Awesome thanks for the comment
How does it
work for windows 11?
Yes. Us W-11 users would like to know.
Im not to sure about the reg editor on windows 11 you may still be able to use ths manual way the same
It works on Windows 11, I just tried it and am running Win 11.
Thnx for a great video and thnx to LonsomeTrubadour for checking it in W-11
It really makes a difference thx
I get an error message when I try to import the backup file.
you can also just delete what you created
@@2020fsers Thank you!!
I agree with you .
Tried this windows nt does not exists on my end
I'm sorry I'm not sure what to tell you then other than the manual way.
What option ? I actually tried to look there 1st before ending up using the reg editor but i couldn't find it .
@@2020fsers Tools -> Options -> third line down and to the right...check Box "Force high priority". BTW is there a method to add a snippet to these comments? 🙂
Thanks... not sure you can add snippets
how do you undo this in the registry?
I explained that at the end . Delete the flightsimulator.exe folder that you created .
I explained that at the end . Delete the flightsimulator.exe folder that you created .
No matter what I do, it stays at above normal. Need some directions, please.
Which method 1 or 2. If 2 make sure all spelling is correct and capital letters are properly used like in the video.
Same here. Follow instructions to the letter checking spelling etc. but is at "Above Normal"
Good tutorial, well done, but there is no need for the gimmicks, video/photos etc. Your content alone is enough.
Thanks for the compliment ☺️
Just the fact this game is so resource heavy yet fails in so many critical ways, like flight model.
Let's call it what it is.
It's not a "flight simulator" but rather "scenery simulator with aircraft models"
And with 2024 coming I don't think 2020 will get the love it needs
Does anyone know how to disable humidity completely? Nowhere can I find humidity values in any folder.
Video too long. Should be no more than 2 minutes.
Thanks for your input
It does not turn off once you change it 😂😂 don't go in to registry editor you wasting your time
Don't do it in the registry once you set it ones it's done now use to all that bullshit
YOU ARE GREAT!!!!!!
Thank-you😁
