These videos should start this way: To see if any of this is worth doing, start the developer toolkit and take a flight. Watch the top and see what is limiting your frame rate. If the box below the frame rate says that you are Main Thread or CPU limited, none of the GPU settings are going to change that and the CPU will continue to set the frame rate limit. I used to run a laptop with a 3070 GPU and I always thought it was the video quality settings that were hurting me, but one day I realized that the real secret to getting higher frame rates was to back off on the Object and Tarrain LOD sliders. These have nothing to do with the sharpness of the graphics. They only determine the distance and density of objects in the view, and these objects are generated by the CPU and not the GPU. If you are flying near an airport and you lower your Object slider down, what you will see is that fewer planes and ground equipment will be seen in the distance. Traffic is also a big user of CPU time. When I finally figured this out, I could run my laptop 3070 at Ultra on most setting (other other than the LOD sliders, and get 50 frames a second. Bottom line, if you are CPU limited, none of the changes seen in this video will really do that much. Today, I have 13900 CPU, and a 4080, and at 4K, the GPU is loafing, but even with the 13900, the CPU is almost always setting the frame rate. Except for the LOD sliders, I run all other graphics settings at max, and the CPU is still the limit. The only real fix is to re-design the program to use more cores of the CPU and apparently this is happening because there will be a new MSFS later this year.
@@kennetha6594 Yes, unless you do VR, it is just about always the CPU that limits frame rate and traffic, Terrain LOD, and object LOD are the killers. Busy airports are best improved by lowering the traffic and the Object LOD, and complex terrains like Grand Canyon are best improved by lowering terrain level of detail, and _everything is improved by flying a slower plane_ rather than a faster one because the faster you move through the matrix, the more quickly the CPU has to work to generate the details that need to go to the GPU. When I got my 3070 laptop giving the best overall experience, I was running most graphics settings at Ultra but I was less than 100 on Object and not much higher on terrain, and I was flying mostly slower planes. If I flew the F-18, it would be pretty miserable, but the Cessna 172 was wonderful, giving me a very smooth 45 to 50 fps most places, but slowing down to maybe 26 fps at busy airports. I made the decision to sacrifice flying fast planes and busy airports to better enjoy how beautiful it is to fly around and sight-see. Anyway, my experience is that at 1080P, the GPU does not have to be anything super special and other than LOD sliders, most settings can be pretty high. At 2K, the workload on the GPU is higher, but it is still not all that high. At 4K, the 4080 is overkill. Most of the time, my GPU is a solid green bar in the developer toolkit and hardly ever goes above 10 millisecond response, while my CPU is usually running 18, to 25 and to get that, I have to lower the LOD sliders to lower than the highest Graphics setting defaults. There are so many vides that focus on the NVIDIA settings, and I have found that they do almost nothing. I tweaked to the specs provided in dozens of videos, and none of it mattered. It was always the CPU and I wasted my time making all of those changes. Hopefully MSFS 2024 will be designed to utilize more cores.
Running a Cyberpowerpc with NVIDIA GEFORCE RTX 4070...began to experience stuttering after tweaking settings per other less descriptive videos. Followed your suggestions, and now MSFS2020 is running buttery smooth, even at low altitudes. Thanks for the great info and articulating all the what-why-how. Thumbs up!
I changed my screens resolution with DSR and now my GPU usage is much higher and more consistent then before. It was sitting around 20-30%, but now it's between 60-80%. Performance has been nice with this change. I had a bottleneck with my pc and it helped me.
Followed your guide and finally transitioned to DX12 beta and wowzers! Huge performance boost (85- 100 fps) in the air and (55-65 fps) at CYYZ with a combo of high and ultimate settings. Smooth as butter graphically and visually beautiful now. This was absolutely what I needed to do. Testing is the key for sure! Thank you so much for this excellent video.
Thank you so much for this. Ive tried many tutorials in the past, but this one is the jackpot so far for me. I followed your Nvidia settings and my sim has never been smoother. Each flight is perfect, from start to finish. No stutters, smooth panning, even at heavy airports like EGLL and EGKK. I have a 3080Ti and my sim settings are a mix of high and ultra settings. LOD is at 190 and OLD at 130, DX12 and TAA. FPS between 40 - 52 on ground, dips to around 35 - 40 at heavier airports on Vatsim and with FSLT and Fenix, but all smooth 👏 Using the V-Synch setting „fast“ in Nvidia CP seems to cause microstutters for me, so Ive left that as application controlled and use V-Synch in the sim instead.
Thanks for the TIPS on settings and explanations. Last MSFS Update did impact 30 & 40 Series cards. Should we be using a VIRTUAL RAM even if I have 32GB Physical and only using SSD Drives? I had my older 2080 run better than my new 3080 as the game uses upto 24GB I set as Virtual but on my new PC I am not using one.
Very well done video, easy to HEAR and SEE. I went thru it all and everything was working. Came in next morning (after shutdown) and the NGX Updater from Nvidia came into play, about 10 instances of it were created (watching task manager), then the Flight Simulator would turn off. I could repeat this. I seem to have no way to stop the NGX Nvidia Updater. I re-installed the sim (via steam), and did a "restore" on all your (great) settings. Now I'm downloading the latest "release" from the sim. Somehow that updater doesn't know where the flight simulator is. And it is now on my "N" drive instead of the default "C". (That may be part of the problem). Thank you for a great vid, things didn't work out for me.
Why yhe CUDA system fallback policy in global seting have to be defauld and in the program seting you can change it? If i put it in global seting on fall back like in program seting was going to happening?
Hey John, been awhile. Been away from MSFS for a spell. As soon as I returned headed straight to your tutorials. Quick question I noticed on the 40th Anniversary edition the FPS counter is not available in Developer Mode. Ant suggestions? Also joined up as a Captain Club member. The least I could do for all the help you have provided over the years.
Hey thanks for joining 😀 welcome aboar🛩 . Yes thebfps tool has moved . Turn on Dev mode and go to the top menus to debug go down to fps counter and turn on
Great info as always! But have a question in the NVIDA control panel MSFS setting you don't have Max Frame Rate set to anything. Do we leave it off now and not capped at 30 or so??
I have never capped my fps to 30 in the panel some people do . I say do what works for you. Because everybody's system is different and some people get great results doing that. For me. I actually get a little bit of a stutter when I do that. I suppose it may help on a lower end c. P. U. So it's not trying to overload it..
@@kevinreed3236 I have a GTX1660 Super and it runs smoother for me capping at 33 FPS. Just experiment and you will hit your sweet spot. Good Luck ! 2020FSer, I really enjoy your detailed and thoughtful videos!
You can if that gives you better performance. There is no should do for msfs . Every system reacts differently to settings . You really need to test on your system various settings what works best for you . I prefer not to cap my frame rate and I get great results.
Thanks much for your tunes : It has helped me very much to get a very better image and smoother flight ! Take care of you and continue to your very help full videos. 😊
I hope this video helps. I switched back to Nvidia Studio Drivers for stability, but everything I see leads to memory issues. It is insane that you can have the most powerful spec computer and still have issues running this game. I feel more like Tech support than an Inspriing Pilot at this point 😂
Hi, your channel is great and your videos very well explained. One thing: I'm pretty shure that DSR Factors (DL) affects VR. I tried it several times with and without it. Or can't that be? I use a Meta Quest 3, Virtual Desktop, RTX 3080 and FS2020 runs in VDXR, I think (without SteamVR).
I'm now convinced about that and found that I never used DSR, but thought I would. Anyways, I watched your other videos about the Nvidia driver and clearing the cache and dialing in the settings for MSFS and I got really good results in terms of getting most frames at a reasonable grade of detail in VR on my 3080. thanks for the good tips @@2020fsers
As newbie, I’m over-whelmed with all the advice and aids available regarding best setting. It is obvious that Windows, WMR and MSFS settings are required. Regarding the other aids (Nvidia Control Panel, Geforce Experience, Nvidia Game Filters and OpenXR toolkit) is possible/advisable to use them all at the same time? Are there conflicts when more than one aid is used? Some discussion on this topic would be greatly appreciated.
Hey thanks for the comment most of the optional apps are compatible with everything . I have done lots of tutorials on various aids check out my msfs fixes playlist on the channel page I also did an update for su12 which still applies to su14 . And many others I also did an ultimate vr guide if using vr .
I have i7 12700F and RTX 3070ti I have done all the tweaking and have pretty good results: 30-50 FPS in most situations, very rarely under 30. However, the mainthread is always bottlenecked by CPU which runs twice higher than GPU. My question is: would uppgrading the processor alone change this relation and would it help to raise performance? Especially in relation to the coming of FS2024. P.S. thanks for this fantastic tutorial :-)
Which setting in the NCP was the correct one to change (and to what) if you got shimmering in fine detailed parts of the plane? Oh, and how about the rezisable bar in BIOS: On or off (and do I have to dig around in FS2020 to get it to work. Worth it?). Only having it On in Bios wont do anything in any gam, right?
Thanks for the comment . 1st for shimmering switch to taa in msfs if you don't already . Next any texture filtering settings turn off in the nvidia panel I go over 1 of them in the video. And resize bar I did a video on that I the msfs fixes playlist on the channel page. But yes you do need to force it on in the nvidia profile inspector. As for fps maybe 1 or 2 fps but it can remove stutters in sim but it all really depends on your cpu some it's good others not so much. So it's trial and error.
I see. Running in 2K, 5600X and 3060 Ti (+150/+800) 32Gb, Gsync... Not sure why I do get stutters both in cockpit (panning), but also when panning externally. Sometimes Its all find though... Its like throwing dice each time I shall play..how will the performance be etc... Thanks for a great guide! @@2020fsers
turning off gsync gives more stutters, with or witouth vsync in game or in ncp. So weird. But I also noticed that Reflex (not boost) gives stutters as well... @@2020fsers
Should I have Vsync on or off in the sim? (Nvidia gpu, g-sync monitor) great video! Would love a part 2 showing what to put graphics settings in the sim based on this.
@@2020fsers I figured out my ghosting issue was my monitors response time setting was on “fastest”. I changed it to normal and no more ghosting! Just thought to share in case anyone has the same problem. :)
I've been watching your settings videos for a long time now. I remember you talking about a setting that might cause texture flickering? Since the last update and MSFS reinstall, I'm getting some ground and building texture flickering. Ideas on what I could try?
It's wasn't necessarily flickering it is shimmers . The settings to help with that are the texture filtering options turning them off helps at the cost of some performance
It's wasn't necessarily flickering it is shimmers . The settings to help with that are the texture filtering options turning them off helps at the cost of some performance
You always want to check your load in the simulator with the in Sim FPS tool that will tell you your latency on both CPU and GPU that is what you want to go by if you need to increase GPU load then yes you can use DSR factors
I am not using the frame gen mod and I really don't recommend it . From all the people I have talked to It causes to many issues so I feel doing a video on it won't benefit the whole community ..
@@2020fsersthat’s very interesting thing to read… because I’ve seen many videos talking good about it and I was really looking forward to see a video made by you how to config framegen on MSFS. I like many of yours content and tips as almost all I’ve implemented on my PC and works flawlessly. If it’s not a problem for you, would you mind making a video explaining or sharing some article about drawbacks of the framegen?! Thanks in advance!
There's not Many drawbacks from frame generation on forty series cards. The problem comes when you're trying to use AMD frame generation on nvidia cards. Many people that have tried it have said that they see flickering, screen tearing. The toolbar menus are flickering, especially when you try to turn your head. They're not as sharp as they should be. The other issue that non40 series cards run into is that it uses an excessive amount of V. Ram, I believe that's because non 40 series cards don't have tensor cores and 40series cards do. The issue with running out of v Ram is it causes major stutters, so people then have to cut back on the texture resolution Or screen resolution so that it can limit the amount of stutters that they get. So for a very select few people I've seen are willing to deal with the issues And others don't have any issues. But the majority of people have problems. So for that reason, I don't want to make a video that a lot of people are gonna have problems with, the amount of negative comments that I'm gonna get from that is not healthy.. lol
Great video. Also I think at the v-sync part the g-sync and freesync info should be added, because it is much better than default v-sync. So if you have g-sync or freesync monitor you should not use v-sync - it should be just global setting - off.
Yeah i personally don't recommend the frame gen mode . There's too many things that could conflict with it and Microsoft flights simulator once there's updates and things like that.. thanks for the comment
I don't think you can do that but in msfs in the marketplace you don't need to download them only the ones you want . In your content manager you can delete what you don't want .
Great video as always. When you have time, would you put together a video on your recommended settings when using the latest version of the nVidia Clean Install app?
Yes i have that slated to do as well I'm panning on updating everything that has changed . The new debloat video should be in a week or so I have to space it out with some other content so I don't get complaints.
It's what I run. I just bought a good hdmi cable and that's what settings i use. It does make a difference in the colors especially if you can increase to 12 bit color I can only get 8.
At idle outside the simulator my load on the gpu is 2%, and on the sim it is on a scale between 72 and 76%. Were you able to use DSR factors? My GPU is an RTX 2070 Super my Ryzen 3900X processor. Thank you for your help.
Hello and thank you for the explanation about the Nvidia panel. You have mencioned that your gpu load was about 80% in MSFS. Mine is always at 99%. Is there anything I can do to reduce it? I have a RTX 3080.
Thanks for the comment. The only thing you can do to reduce your gpu load is cap your fps, or turn down texture resolution and all other options like clouds and buildings . All of those affect gpu load . But capping your fps or using vsync to cap your frames is probably the 1st thing I would do .
As always, very good video! But I have a question! In a previous video you said that in the Adjust Image Settings with preview, the control should be set to performance! Here in the video he stands for quality. Does that make a difference?
People had issues when you set to quality then set to adj 3d settings . So using the restore after you set to use 3d settings it resets all the settings to default so it doesn't matter where you had the preset slider on the 1st menu . Thanks for the comment
Hi. Just wanted to say a massive thank you for all your videos. They have helped a lot. I was wondering, could you possibly tell me what version Nvidia driver you using at the present time as I've. tried several and some of them are pretty nasty as you can imagine this. would be a great help. Thank you so much
If you're not getting 60 FPS in Flight Simulator, Vsync doesn't work. I will never go back to a fixed refresh rate monitor after I got a G-SYNC compatible monitor. All my problems with screen tearing and V-sync were solved with that move.
@@2020fsers Interesting. It looks like you are running a 144Hz monitor judged by the information I gathered from the Nvidia Control Panel in the video. So I assume you're not getting a constant 144 FPS in MSFS? Yet Vsync still works?
Hey awsome video Btw but i dont have display settings in the Nvidia control panel and i have tried to find a solution but nothing works, do you know an sulution for this?
Ok that's why some laptops are fixed with the monitor. If you were to plug in a monitor then the settings will show up . So it's normal for the issue you have .
I have a 32" Samsung tv. When I change resolution to PC (1680x1050 is highest), I get a transparent line that comes and goes in FS, depending GPU load. I also see the line when scrolling in Chrome. I have 10700k and 3060. Is there a way to fix it?
Ok for a TV you must select one of the options a ove the pc section . If it's a 4k TV select 4k and the resolution of the TV. What I showed here specifically used for monitors.. I should have said that in the video I just don't realize how many people are using TV's now instead of monitors..
That will depend on how much load you have on your gpu once you spawn Into msfs . Everybody has different things running on their system. So the amount of load you have with your setup specs might be different from somebody else's. That's why I recommend to check on your own system.
I have the frame generation installed, and why it does double my fps, i have alot of stutters and my sliders are only at 100 and 45(!) with my settings at high(mostly). If i put them higher i have tremendous stutters. I have a 3070ti, 32gb ram, i7 11700KF cpu, 500gb free space,... and a 4k 240hz G-sync monitor. I've set all of the settings in the Nvidiagamepanel, all drivers are updated,... I do fly with mods like the Fenix, 3rd party airports, rexaccuseason,... That does have a huge impact but that still doesn't explain why others with the same specs seem to have much better performance.
I've been messing around with my the v-sync settings, turning g-sync off in the nvidia panel... I've got rid of the stuttering setting it to DLSS quality in my case. But i still encounter a sorth of flickering/shimering panning around in the Fenix. Also, weirdly enough my CPU and GPU are both at only 45% while msfs is running? Ideas anyone? EDIT: I have no stutters anymore in the cockpit: back to TAA (DLSS isn't that sharp). V-sync on ingame, 100% refresh ratel. V-sync application controlled in Nvidiapanel. I've changed my refresh rate at the Nvidiapanel from 240 to 144 Hz and that was for me the biggest one. Thanks for your video's. The other one you made about setting MSFS to priority mode also made a huge difference for me.
I don't use the frame gen mod ive seen to many issues . So as far as settings I do know it uses much more vram and some people need to turn down texture resolution .
What resolution are you using? I assume 4K. Frame Generation is not recommended, it requires DX12 and a graphics card with a huge VRAM allocation, if you enable DLSS you will improve your stutters but with DLSS on quality at 4K resolution you are pushing slightly over 2K quality. In MSFS there is no magic number unfortunately, it’s about finding a good balance for all scenarios. I personally use Dynamic LOD as this eliminates all stutters on the ground and gives me 0.40 LOD when above a certain altitude. I also use 2K with 150% upscale to 4K. I get no less than a smooth stutter free 40 FPS in every scenario. I’m running a 3080 10GB with a Ryzen 3900X.
I noticed when I disabled AF in game the quality went down drastically. Despite "popular opinion" I now use "use app setting" in the driver and use 16x in game. Doing it your way the end of the runway is fuzzy.
You have to do what works best for you and your system . Everyone's systems reacts differently to settings. I have the best graphics when I enable the driver antialiasing .
@@2020fsers Absolutely. All I can say is the religious fervor this setting induced in the youtube world is the most scary part. "This is the ways its done" said all the high priests of MSFS settings, lol. In 100s of settings vids I watched I never saw any disclaimers on this setting until very recently. What an excellent change for me.
Yes, everything I go over here should be okay. But please keep in mind that everyone in system is different. So if you do experience some adverse effects, all you need to do is restore the settings in the Invidia control Panel then you can go through each setting individually testing until you get to the setting that was causing you an issue..
My performance seems smoother, especially at cruise altitude. However, I am getting a lot of ground texture popping. As I pan around, high res ground textures pop in and out. Any ideas which setting I can change back to eliminate this? Thanks
ground texture popping is the new issue from su14 lots of people are having the issue . if you turn off photogrammetry the popping stops . I think its server related.
I did everything you did in the video and it seems to have a positive effect on stutters. However, I'm getting short white flashes now from time to time. Any idea what could be the reason for that?
That's a new one .. I would 1st start with the basics to rule out everything but msfs. So in your nvidia panel hit restore and restore to defaults. Remove everything from the community folder. Open msfs and test... are you using the fsr mod ? If so remove it. Are you using dlss ? If so turn it off and back to taa . Delete your rolling cache. Then retest msfs if you still get the flashes it's the sim and not you or hardware . If it doesn't and works fine now you are on a witch hunt to determine what of those things is the culprit.
Have you overclocked your processor? Do you recommend it to improve game performance? Ive got a Ryzen 5 5600x and im bot sure how healthy that is for my system in the long run!? Thanks mate and love the vids, super helpful 🙏
I feel yes overclocking will help performance in most cases. As for long term that all depends on how you overclock . I'm not doing any vids on the topic but there are lots to watch. I have my system overclocked and is just fine. Thanks for the comment
Another very helpful update!!! It looked like you are using a 3090Ti card as you walked through the Control Panel. Just out of curiosity, can I ask what your GPU temp range/average looks like with MSFS running at these settings? With my 4090OC, it's averaging 55°C and 93 FPS with pretty much everything "maxed" out and using FSLTL, FSRealistic, FS2Crew PMDG SOP1, & Navigraph. Thanks again!!
Roger & thanks! I'm using Afterburner with a custom curve too. after two PMDG 737 flights, 56°C was my peak and at times into the mid 30°'s. Really like these latest tweaks!! Also eliminated the random night cockpit flicker I had previously!
Glad to! I've followed your recommendations with excellent success for over a year now. I've been using MSFS since 1982; it's come a long way! @@2020fsers

Just wondering, do you get different Restored Global settings, if in Nvidia Image settings preview you have preference emphasizing set to Quality or Performance? even if it isn't selected?
The image preview setting doesn't matter as long as you have the used managed settings like I show and then after that use the restore on the nvidia panel will set everything to default.
Thanks for the video. I Followed your video step by step but it crashed my msfs every time I start it. I have to restore nvadia 3d setting to default to make it not crash. Don’t know which specific settings in there caused the crash.
Even though his videos are always very interesting and have many good setting ideas I have found that for me they very rarely work. Right now my sim is running excellent so I'm not touching a thing
Thanks for the comment . Yes restore your Settings and then go through each one individually and test them to see which setting was giving you the problem. The other thing is, I'm not using the frame generation mod. That a lot of other people are using that can cause issues..

How do you delete this ISLC from the computer, I have undone the settings as you have shown but there is no way to uninstall? The message close the folder or file keeps popping up when trying to delete the program? Please help.
If you auto started the app open the task manager and right click the icon and close it then delete the file folder on your desktop for the islc. This app is not directly installed on your pc it's stand alone so there is no uninstall just delete the folder.
Are you talking about dsr? If so just uncheck the DSR resolutions, select OK and then go back into your resolution. Tab in the Invidia control panel and reselect your native resolution and refresh..
Yes, these settings should work for most people but again. Everybody has different systems and different programs running on their systems. So if you find that You have some adverse effects with any of the settings in the nvidia Control panel. All you need to do is hit the restore button and it will restore all of the settings to factory. And then you can go in there and adjust 1 or 2 things at a time until you figure out what's causing you an issue..

Just saw this entry in one of the discords, would be a good suggestion for a video 😃 have you tested this? …. I'm getting about 25fps with my Pimax Crystal over JFK what should I expect to get..Ive been on just about every setting and every RUclips video on how to adjust this. Your settings did help me more than anyone else as I was getting sometimes less than 15FPS and tons of stuttering,, Man with such a high end rig I thought it would help me get rid of the stuttering.. My LOD in MSFS and Terrain detail are set at 150 if that will help you, most settings in vr are on high except smoothing and i know shadow details etc are lower.. This is frustrating as all you know what.. I just would like it to look good and run smooth!! I have now subscribed hoping you can keep me updated .. Thanks
Hey thanks for the comment and sub. The dsr option won't do you any good for vr anyway . I would say with your setup barring the resolution that you have it set to you should have over 30fps on the verge of 40 I would say . Do you use the openxrtoolkit? If so reduce your resolution to 3500 I have a 3080ti and mine is set to 3000. Also ffr can boost you 3 or 4 fps also.
OK update Im getting constant 45fps in Vr most all settings on ULTRA thanks to your video!! I have one other question if you could help. I am getting black spots in the distance on and off in the scenery and i have also noticed it more when flying over water. They seem to go on and off randomly. While its not a dealbreaker it is distracting. When I look at my screen and not through vr I still can see them { asus pg42uq 4k monitor with HDR enabled}. While flying the caribbean Ive noticed they form a line in the water and are random in the fauna/ scenery out past the plane in other areas..Is there a setting to look for to adjust or fix this? Otherwise when not in VR i am getting around 75fps.... AWESOME... Thanks so much for the help.
too me it almost looks like bad pixels on a tv that go on and off. I know its not my monitor or it wouldn't also show in vr. Any idea on the MSFS settings to look at ?@@2020fsers
It's should be fine . But if you have an issue just hit restore and try and only make small changes until you have a issue so you will be able to identify what setting was not good
Just a question I don't know if you have any solution for this but sometimes I have ONE long freeze even up to 30 seconds and this is only on descent and it's quite a new issue that usually occur around 12000-5000 feet and is really annoying especially when your flying vatsim. After the freeze the game seems to run normally and stutter free. My specs: i5-9400f Gtx 1650 16gb ram
Thanks a lot, quite close to my current configs with 3080 and 3x 2K mon. The one thing you didn't mention is your NVIDIA driver version. I still run the older but very stable 526.98. Latest ASOBO advice was 531.29. What is safe to use?
I'm not sure what settings you used because I go over a lot of things even stuff I don't use That's why I go over thing so you can decide on what may be good for your system. Everyone's system is different, so my results will probably be different than yours.. I would suggest to restore your settings and only make a couple changes and test microsoft flights emulator until you get to what is causing your issueI would suggest to restore your settings and only make a couple changes and test Microsoft flight sim until you get to what is causing your issue.
@@2020fsers i got it fixed. I got tired of the lagging before and went and bought another pc 😂 I’m running a r 9 5900x with a 3080 founders addition. And it it played awesome so i decided to mess with game filters with GeForce experience and my sim started playing like crap again so i came to realize GeForce experience is the problem this entire time 😂
Yeah GeForce is bad for msfs for performance I did a debloat video to show how to remove all the crap from the driver and it really adds performance . The video is in the msfs fixes playlist . Performance hack video .
Just a little bit of info about ISLC. Timer resolution does not work on windows 10 no matter what you do. Windows 10 changed this by giving timer resolution to per app. It is not global like it should be. Windows 11 and Windows server 2022 added this global timer resolution(meaning it works on only those 2 versions of windows). About the standby list. This is probably the worst thing you can do for your memory. For one, unused RAM is wasted RAM. Clearing the standby list will only make things slower because as soon as it gets forcefully cleared. It gets instantly re allocated back. Apps automatically take from this if they need(to speed things up), hence CACHE. Not only will this slow things down because of re allocation, it will also use unnecessary disk usage, causing more stutters. ISLC was made for one specific game that had actual memory leaks. At that time, this app did work very well for that one game. MFS does not have those old types of memory leaks.
I use ilsc all the time and works very well . I have probably hundreds of users that also stated the same and greatly helps with stutters and crashes especially with people that have 16gb of ram. Also my islc timer resolution works perfectly fine and is set at .5 on windows 10. I also verified it with process lasso and it also confirms I am using .5 timer resolution .msfs also did have a very big issue with memory leaks . That's why the nd fix for the registry was used to mitigate that many youtubers including myself have posted on this issue and the fix. Msfs is designed on the fsx platform and because of that has all the inherent problems of older coded games. This sim is not like a newly created aaa game title maybe 2024 will be but time will tell.
If you want better frames stop doing stupid things through nvidia control panel , windows settings, only download the FSR MOD made for rtx 20/30 series cards and you’ll get about 50% mores frames guarantee.
Fsr mod works for some and others will put up with the issues that come with it but I don't recommend it as it can cause issues in msfs as things get updated and possibly the mod conflict until its updated . But it can be good especially on lower end systems.
Happy New Year! Thanks for a great video on the control panel settings and your detailed explanations. Always top notch. I was looking at you list of links to prior guides and this one: -ruclips.net/video/pQldXZMZqmA/видео.html su14 Graphics AND performance guide use the updated nvidia settings in the updated 2024 points to a settings guide you did about 5 months ago. Is this the latest one that takes into account SU14? Thanks, Steve
Happy new year 🎉 . Thanks for the comment yeah the su12 video should still be good for su14 but the latest nvidia video should be used for the nvidia panel . Everything else should be good unless someone says something but I haven't heard anything.
Great comment. I am currently facing what you experienced, albeit with a 3060 laptop.
Can anyone help me I set up same as you but when my wheels touch the runway my game stop about 3 seconds

I changed my screens resolution with DSR and now my GPU usage is much higher and more consistent then before. It was sitting around 20-30%, but now it's between 60-80%. Performance has been nice with this change. I had a bottleneck with my pc and it helped me.
Awesome 👌 thanks for posting your results .
Thanks so much for the comment 👍 yes test everything you never know what will work for yourself.
That is such great news thanks for posting your results and thanks for the comment 👍 😀

Thanks for the comment .. what is a ngx updater ? I don't use that .
Why yhe CUDA system fallback policy in global seting have to be defauld and in the program seting you can change it? If i put it in global seting on fall back like in program seting was going to happening?

Great info as always! But have a question in the NVIDA control panel MSFS setting you don't have Max Frame Rate set to anything. Do we leave it off now and not capped at 30 or so??
I have never capped my fps to 30 in the panel some people do . I say do what works for you. Because everybody's system is different and some people get great results doing that. For me.
Dsr only affects monitor not vr and is very effective if you need more load on your gpu.

I have i7 12700F and RTX 3070ti
I have done all the tweaking and have pretty good results: 30-50 FPS in most situations, very rarely under 30.
However, the mainthread is always bottlenecked by CPU which runs twice higher than GPU.
My question is: would uppgrading the processor alone change this relation and would it help to raise performance? Especially in relation to the coming of FS2024.
P.S. thanks for this fantastic tutorial :-)
Thanks for the comment if your CPU latency is higher than your GPU latency then yes upgrading your CPU will fix that
Which setting in the NCP was the correct one to change (and to what) if you got shimmering in fine detailed parts of the plane?
You always want to check your load in the simulator with the in Sim FPS tool that will tell you your latency on both CPU and GPU that is what you want to go by if you need to increase GPU load then yes you can use DSR factors
Are you using frame generation? If so what is your thoughts about?! Can you make a video explaining? Thanks!

Is there a way to move the world updates to the MSFS Addon Linker? I want to download a few of them but have no more space on my main drive
I don't think you can do that but in msfs in the marketplace you don't need to download them only the ones you want . In your content manager you can delete what you don't want .
Great video as always. When you have time, would you put together a video on your recommended settings when using the latest version of the nVidia Clean Install app?

If I remember correctly the RGB colour setting and native resolution in PC requires a HDMI 2.1 cable, is this correct and do you recommend it?

Hello and thank you for the explanation about the Nvidia panel. You have mencioned that your gpu load was about 80% in MSFS. Mine is always at 99%. Is there anything I can do to reduce it? I have a RTX 3080.
Thanks for the comment. The only thing you can do to reduce your gpu load is cap your fps, or turn down texture resolution and all other options like clouds and buildings . All of those affect gpu load . But capping your fps or using vsync to cap your frames is probably the 1st thing I would do .

If you're not getting 60 FPS in Flight Simulator, Vsync doesn't work. I will never go back to a fixed refresh rate monitor after I got a G-SYNC compatible monitor. All my problems with screen tearing and V-sync were solved with that move.

Ok for a TV you must select one of the options a ove the pc section . If it's a 4k TV select 4k and the resolution of the TV. What I showed here specifically used for monitors.. I should have said that in the video I just don't realize how many people are using TV's now instead of monitors..

Thank you for your reply.
@@2020fsers is there much difference with the Valve Index?
And how much is it - Huge/Large drive?
Thank you so much
Your welcome.
I have a 3090FE graphics and 5600x amd cpu. Should I use DSR factors?
I just went through this pain. Go into nvidia control panel and restore setting to default and set them up again. Fixed all my stuttering.
Glad you got it sorted
Question; should we do this if we use an old gforce gtx 1080 ti? I am using the latest nvidia drivers.
Thanks. I had no popping textures before I made the tweaks outlined in this video. I'll play with some settings and see what happens.
@acbent11 you could hit restore and see what you get in the sim
@@2020fsers thanks for the reply
Another very helpful update!!! It looked like you are using a 3090Ti card as you walked through the Control Panel. Just out of curiosity, can I ask what your GPU temp range/average looks like with MSFS running at these settings? With my 4090OC, it's averaging 55°C and 93 FPS with pretty much everything "maxed" out and using FSLTL, FSRealistic, FS2Crew PMDG SOP1, & Navigraph. Thanks again!!
Hey thanks for the comment 👍 I'm using a 3080ti I also have my gpu undervolted and overclocked with custom fan curves . I'm around 60 give or take .
Also I just saw you joined the captain club welcome . If you need anything let me know . I really appreciate the support.

Hi, and for two days the rendering latency has gone crazy 300, 400, could it be Navigraph causing problems?

Can I use these settings for fs2024?
Yes . I do
@ I use oculus quest 3, I would like to try these settings for VR
When I disable ISLC tool and use the "To revert Back enter these 3 commands", after the reboot my system is lagging like crazy. I don't know what to do. Please help!
You don't necessarily need to revert back if you don't want to use the islc tool. I would use the first 3 again and just don't use the islc tool.
@@2020fsers that worked. Still, why does reverting to previous settings cause my Windows 10 (10900k@5GHz, 2080Ti) to lag terribly?
It's hard to say I'm not sure but that is the process.
I don't know if it changes anything, but it is sysMEM Fallback, not sysTEM fallback🧐😅👍

Are you talking about dsr? Try and restore your nvidia panel and reboot the pc.
Will these settings work for most systems and nvidia graphic cards?
Yes, these settings should work for most people but again. Everybody has different systems and different programs running on their systems. So if you find that You have some adverse effects with any of the settings in the nvidia Control panel. All you need to do is hit the restore button and it will restore all of the settings to factory. And then you can go in there and adjust 1 or 2 things at a time until you figure out what's causing you an issue..
Hello! I can´t turn off Nvidia Reflex low latency in MSFS options (it is grayed, but it is on, so it I can´t change it). Any ideas on how to solve this issue?
Just saw this entry in one of the discords, would be a good suggestion for a video 😃 have you tested this?
…. Have been trying a couple of different settings for the last hours, thanks to you (13900K, 4090). I NEVER thought I would give DLSS a chance! But DLSS Quality with resolution 4700 x XXXX, looks so much better than TAA 3500 x XXXX. I like to crank up sharpness and I always got this kind of heat blur-effect on trees and object in the distance with TAA. This looks much better with DLSS and higher resolution (and of course also the cockpit) Still using CAS 100% i OpenXR. Im down…
Are you referring to vr and probably the crystal? If so yes I have tried dlss and crank up the resolution. And I can't get it high enough for my glass screens to look sharp. I only have a 3080ti and a 4090 probably has the power to do it but I can't test that .
I must say, I like it better than TAA, and locking the frames to half (90:2, i.e. 45fps in oxrtk) gives me ultra smooth flying!
@TBMPilot736 yeah I can't even get 45 fps even for a second lol I'm around 30 to high 30s. But im waiting for the new 4080super to come out on the 31st if I can snag 1 I'll be able to try dlss . And dlaa that seems good also but drops my frames in the 20s.

Hi, Thankyou for your reply, I'll have a look for the Msfs fixes... I tried dlss on quality but it wasn't as clear as TAA, although TAA is still a bit blurry. I think I'll try setting everything to default then look through all your related videos...really not a big enough difference at the moment between my reverb g2 which I was going to sell but it might be the Aero that goes.
@Hal_Bundy that's a strange bug I haven't heard that 1 yet . It has to be msfs settings wouldn't cause that I wouldn't think .

@Hal_Bundy I don't think it's a setting issue .
Would this apply to a 1080ti?
Not well.
Your numbers are way off here: 64gb is NOT 32000mb. 64gb is 64000mb.
I am well aware of that. You do not want to input the amount of Ram you Have you want to set half that amount.
At 24:21 I say you want to set half of your ram spec.
