Thank you so much I was doing tig on aluminum for 7 years but tig on stainless steel is harder for me this has helped me under stand it a lot more! Because I just started this new job 😅
My dude. Thank you so much for not speeding up your footage. It's so hard to figure out how fast I'm supposed to be welding if every instructional video is sped up.
I like seeing this guy, with a little work on his presentation skills he could be a RUclips star. He's already got the personality and face for it, just needs concise articulation.
Ya, what frozen paint said lol I'm rooting for you man cub! You have come a LONG way in past few years. Go Cub! Soon you'll talk as smooth as jody or Mr Tig! Haha
I wish I could weld stainless like that ! Nice "toe"/leg distribution. The "face"/crown profile you've laid in there makes for a flawless fillet. Slow enough travel to keep the puddle fluid, yet fast enough so as not to damage the metal. You are a gifted welder Man-Cub :) Welding DCEN is almost like alien technology.Smooth, quiet... when the arc is struck, you can see the lightning roll out the laminations from the Tungsten rod. It enables the welder to pinpoint the fire at tight tolerances. I practice often, but I'm not nearly as solid as you are dude. Nice, sharp point too. Maybe you could share some sharpening techniques/grinder safety pointers with us?
About remnants at a scrap yard... beware that not all yards will sell. I went to one hoping to score some SS coupons for half price and they told me they only buy. Best I can do is get the most out of the coupons I have. I did my best, #8 cups at about 6 liters per minute, and my weld looks just like the too small cup weld that you showed. So I really need giant cups and LOTS of gas (which I can't have, I got a small bottle to work with because I got to carry it up 5 flights of stairs) to get good results? I've managed to cut down on the gas consumption by reducing the pressure a LOT, the pressure set on the stock regulator was too high. Manufacturer of my welder recommends 15psi. I guess I'll just weld like this and electropolish later.
Do you have any tips on a man who is 36 and I did tip for 4 years when I was 18 to 21....now I've been just mig and smaw for since idk when...now I got a torch set up and it's like I lost it...I can still do like open root on pipe but I dont got the Dab skills it's all just dark gray and deformed....help a brother out
Nice one, thanks for your help.. I'm struggling with keeping the puddle moving and according to your advice I'm keeping the tungsten too far from the plate 👍
We have a problem with the stainless at work and no one knows why it happens. After welding and cool down the peices began to emit a black oily substance. Do whyand how to make it stop?
Leon Hough when your filler wire and torch angle are greater than 90° your filler will ball up before getting to the puddle. Keep the angle right at 90° and you’ll be all set.
Are there any books that you recomend to help me learn metallurgy. Unfortunately on my metallurgy class was a joke in college and the teacher ended up getting sued by the the school for his pis poor teaching. Therefore my knowledge in metallurgy is not what it should be. For example I didn't know until this video what the sugaring from stingless actually was so thank you for that information as well.
Metallurgy for the non-metallurgist covers a wide range of topics. See if you can find it in your university library, Springer should have it or find it used. I am a metallurgist, if you have any specific questions don't hesitate to ask, I used to teach Community College. My main focus is process metallurgy (post cold forming heat treatment) but my ferrous welding metallurgy chops are still solid.
@@otm646 Thank you very much I have a million questions to be perfectly honest when it comes to metallurgy, Like a said my college Sued my metallurgy instructor for the lack of teaching he did. my instructor was only there to recruit people to come work at the business he worked at because he would get a kick back from it. To give a little background I graduated about a year ago And I actually only have a applied science degree and in welding, all my Certifications have expired, And I'm not necessarily working A high end welding job. Im working and pretty low end welding job Mostly due to the location of where I live and it was a first place to give me a job fresh out of college not a great excuse but moving is not an option yet, But I am most definitely exploring all options. I've even explored going to get my CWI I don't honestly know the right track being I'm only 23 years old. Truthfully I wanted to get into mobile repair welding but I don't have the financial means to get started in such business. I have ordered the book that was recommended to me and I've also gone to the University closest to me to get one of their metallurgy books as well. Thank you very much all they great feed back.
Years ago before the internet I had to figure these things out myself or listen to advice I was never sure was right or wrong. There is so many tutorials so there should be no excuses for poor welding . Just practice and experiment with scraps and you'll soon be welding like a pro ....hopefully
Gidday mate,...Love your vids im a fan , i got a question about separate gases can i use co2 gas or oxygen or argon gas in separate bottles and mix them together in same line to my liking
GMAW (MiG) is up to 25% CO2, 75% or more Argon. GTAW is 100% argon for 95% of cases. if you are doing aluminum with not-enough-amps to get a smooth pool (you're right on the lower edge of viable amperage) you can add up to 25% helium. if you do more than that, it'll be hard to start an arc, even with HF. Oxygen is only used with Acetylene with gas welding. it is not to be used in any metal with arc welding because oxygen is the primary contaminant that makes oxides (sapphire for aluminum, rust for steel and sugar for stainless steel (oxidized SS looks like black sugar, like you were trying to make caramel or candy and WAY overheated it)
Personally I wouldn't go pass 1/8 stick rod. Same with tig. If you go bigger rods probably get lack of fusion and penetration. Machine wont do aluminum. There is no ac what I could see. I would pick up some 3/32 and 1/8 rods and experiment.
Wow that part on the frosting turned my world upside down. I took a class for a company I worked for to do boiler tube repair and the three that taught the class had like 90 years total and they taught us the only way to get rid of ss frosting was to run a purge gas inside the tube. So maybe that applies to other grades of stainless but my welds looked over cooked now looking back
@@GodslilRedneck23 Whattttt. That's first I heard were brother from another mother. I thought we were rea brothers.I'm gonna tell uncle bob your picking on me.. that your lying..Haha 🤣 I
Tig welding stainless steel, ideally you want a chrome color, also typically the hotter the material got the darker the colors. Blues and blacks hottest chrome, gold and light purple coolest.
I like you getting your own videos at last. Just try to be a little bit less nervous. Your welding is great, and you’re not live, so you can correct a verbal error.
So a company sends you coupons to weld on and you show them as you tell people to go grab subpar metal from a scrap yard? That's pretty shitty, fellas.

He should start his own pipe welding channel.

What gas cfh should I use with a number 8 cup on a tig running at 100 amps

Any tips for 1" sch10s ss pipe? I have issues with that size. 2" and up not as much.
What gauge metal was this
What settings did you use and what thickness was the plate/remnants?

Brian Durham check out metals and how to weld them. It does a great job on covering metallurgy. It’s a pretty dry read but the content is good.

They use mix argon with co2 and oxygen for mig welding but tig needs an inert gas like argon or helium

vids so cool very helpful
I just bought a Vulcan 165 from Harbor Fr't 1st day of yr 2020. Hoping to learn quick. has 165 A at 30% I hope it can weld 3/16 sheet to 1/8 (304)

Good looking weld. No walking the cup anymore?
Alley cat thanks. I love walking the cup

How do I mig weld 409ss exhaust tubing?
With a mig welder, ss wire and the correct gas.
Mr Man Cub how old are you sir
Nice but frankly a horizontal is really easy to do.How about showing us a vertical weld and how you defy gravity.
It's really simple.... Use. The. Force!!! 😂

Nice welding - running to the garage and try it too, but you should use welding helmet, or stop smoking weed -cuz your eyes 😀
