      Well in all fairness there's many more times mig welding aluminized tubing is required than stainless tig welding is. Tig is just fancy gas welding that we did in shop class when we were 13 years old so being a hateful tig queen probably isn't necessary. Stick and mig are really what builds the world so just settle down and go do your secret club belly rubs to each other while military welders mig aluminum attack ships together big guy. Oh and I haven't given it a thumbs up or down yet.

    You make very valid point about prep. When I have employees prep parts to be welded I usually have to have them clean it up a second time, I tell them that "welding is doing surgery on metal". They often laugh at that but its too true.

    I’ve been in the engineering game for 16 years now (all my working life) and I’ve always loved to Tig weld and fab all sorts of stuff. A change of job roles the last 2 years means I’m 99% hands off the tools now so I’ve decided to set up a little workshop on my garage and get back to my roots! I’m loving your content at the moment though mate, making me very excited to get my new Tig plant at home and get my hands dirty again!

    Brad, Awesome Video as usual. I have to say this was one of the most in depth Videos on Stainless Tig that I have seen EVER! I mean there is a wealth of information here for the Beginner, and Intermediate Tig Welder, and there are sweet little Tricks in here for even Veterans. I loved that little Propane Torch Trick for getting rid of any leftover Lint or Frbris from your Rag/Paper Towel when wiping down with Acetone. I've never seen that before, and will be implementing that into my Weld Prep Rituals. I've been Fabricating, Welding, Mechanicing, etc for a long time, and I still always learn some new Tip or Trick everytime I watch one of your Videos.

    I dont think everyone is cut out for TIG welding. I can Stick, MIG pretty good but my TIG Sucks, specially when I'm trying to build a 304 stainless exhaust system. My welds are embarrassing to look at but get the job done. I think you need to do TIG 40 hrs a week or just be extremely consistent, persistent and have alot of concentration to master stainless tube welding. Kudos in trying to teach us dummies out here.:)

      You probably just can't see the puddle. I find that when I do stick and mig that the orange puddle is easy to see with green shades. My eyes can't see shit with tig and green tints. Once I got my optrel crystal 2.0 I could see the puddle. Some other true color hamlets are almost the same. I thought I sucked at first.

    Awesome video! My only question is you said you use the same belt to sharpen tungsten for carbon and ss. I was taught never ever cross contaminate anything from ss to carbon. Because the ss can rust if contaminated with anything from carbon steel. Ive also seen 1st hand proof of this. Cut some ss pipe with a blade used for carbon and it got wet, few days later it had surface rust.

    • @hourglassingenuity103
      @hourglassingenuity103  4 года назад +1

      Everything is ground on a 6” wide belt. Left is for Steel, right side is for Stainless steel. A completely dedicated belt for aluminum.. besides, this is automotive fabrication man. I appreciate your precision but cutting SS and mild steel on one blade and leaving deposits is completely different than sharpening tungsten on the same belt. I do pay attention to where I sharpen my tungsten in the belt .. BUT I’ve welded a decent amount of stainless from automotive fabrication, aerospace and sanitary grade tubing and have never had an issue with imbedding or contaminating my part. In my defense, I don’t typically dip tungsten bad. I might just barely touch off on the tip if I’m holding a tight arc but as for absolutely burying my tungsten, I don’t anymore and I can see that being a problem. With that said, I’ve never had any SS rust due to improper technique. Thank you for the very good question! Weld on 🤘🏻

    When dabbing the filler , is it when you move and pause or move and pause and dipping before the puddle fills out completely. Without filler (flat plate) , I see a shine edge before it fills, and when it does fill out , I move. I'm guessing when your dipping the filler faster it's the puddle filling in faster.

    • @hourglassingenuity103
      @hourglassingenuity103  4 года назад

      Yeah. Dip your filler.. move forward, let the puddle stabilize (wet out and relax) and then dip it again.. if you have any weird wandering going on it’s typically due to material prep or poor quality material.

    • @mordantly
      @mordantly 4 года назад

      or not enough amps or too large filler freezing to fast. You want a freeze line every time you move the torch as a guide for proper amps . So it will be tons of very tight dimes not the wide gnarly aluminum spacing (stainless or mild.) )))) vs ) ) ) )

      I don’t use paper towels because they leave behind a ton of particles on any rough surfaces.. also, you can weld 304 with 316 but I typically weld 304 with 308. You can google it and see why and where you would use 316l and they have a lot of good explanations.

    Who about the dimentions can be change and the Heat also determines the changes , like in a precision pieces...
    Just a question, I usually work on Mexico with a peaces with a 2 decimas of tolerances on which they had to be rectified to pass tolerances

    I’m trying to tig weld 16ga exhaust tubing and I’m having a helluva time getting it to work. Is it prep? Maybe, is it the anperage is too high maybe. My machine doesn’t tell you the amperage. It has a-j settings. Any suggestions? I’m completely lost and totally disgusted.

    do you grind different application tungsten all on the same sharpener. IE stainless, aluminum on the same sharpener. i like the hand held being capable to perform mobile processes of welding

      Hey Pat, in this video I talk about how I use 2 separate belts on a belt sander to grind my tungsten.. I use a belt for reactive alloys and I use a belt for aluminum. I try my best to make sure everything has a dedicated alloy whether it’s a belt to grind or prep a part or it’s a belt to sharpen tungsten. 👊🏻

    Hey man I had a quick question, what filler and prep up would you suggest for when welding schedule 40 304L pipe (Turbo manifold piping) and would i need to put a gap or would it be butt welded? Thanks!

    • @hourglassingenuity103
      @hourglassingenuity103  4 года назад +2

      Hey man. Prep is all the same. On schedule 40 pipe I’d knife edge bevel all the joints and just tack them without a gap, you can still easily get full penetration as long as you have your parts beveled correctly and your using adequate amperage. I use 1/16 filler rod and on manifolds and I’ll try and single pass sometimes and sometimes I’ll even run 2 passes.. everyone is different but I’ve only built a few manifolds before and that’s the way I would do it. Have a great weekend!

    And does back purging let you know if you have leaks or bad welds ?

    • @hourglassingenuity103
      @hourglassingenuity103  4 года назад

      Back purging protects the inside of your part from atmosphere while you get a full penetration weld. It is absolutely necessary for a quality part.
