I TIG weld vintage SS auto trim, and at .011" thin, back purging is a must! I also weld in Aerospace which I back purge almost everything there...can't get by any certified tests without it!
Brad, you have so much knowledge. I recently stumbled across your channel a few months ago, because im taking my welding to the next level. I was wondering why you stopped making videos? Did you start a new channel? The welding community could very much benefit from your experience
Well Done I like how you explain out fit up & purge I work in the food industry & are Stainless welds whether 304 or 316 have to be perfect so I 100% agree that everything has to be as close to perfect as can be . I see from your shop you must do a lot of Turbo conversions that sure would be fun in my books . I like your V band connector your systems must be first class & beautiful to look at would love to see some under hood shots of cars you have done & what the system looks like after the Turbo. Wow really nice !
what amperage are you running at? cup size? and purge cfh with them slick plugs you got. and cfh for the torch? good looking welds, looks like all your parts sitting behind you have all the same type of craftmanship in them too
Very informative video! I just ordered the set of purge plugs by tig astetics on Amazon. My question is what size purge hose do I need in order to fit the fittings for the plugs? Any help would be great appreciated! Thank you
Hello Brad, I've learn in this video that argon is heavier than air. Could you make a video about the safety things on how to avoid inhale argon or fumes in our shop or garage...
Excellent video, Brad! As usual with your videos, I appreciate the quality of the video and the accuracy of the information outlined in the video. It’s nice to hear standard terms for things like carbide precipitation, and pointing out that “sugaring” is more or less the slang equivalent. It makes it easier to know exactly what you mean.
Thanks Brad ! , very much appreciated that you're making these videos. I'm tremendously grateful for the time you're putting into the explanations for various aspects of different processes. Im Andrew from NYC.
Hey Andrew! Thank you, I appreciate you for watching and thanks for commenting! Absolutely, I enjoy trying to explain things and I’m more than happy to help anywhere I can! Have a great day.
One of the better vids I've seen on back purge an I cant wait till I get too use my purge plugs I no they work well I've jus not used them yet ....good video love learning anything about tig welding
Love the video man! Lots of great tips. I’m curious as to what you control the purge with turning it on and off. Do you have a regulator or do you just open your bottle and close it when done?
can you do a video were you show how to hold in place different shaped stainless steel parts for welding and how to weld those different shaped parts please.
love watching the videos Brad, keep up the great work. hopefully we see more weekends away with brad, really enjoy the behind the scenes feel and getting to know the fabricators I follow on social media
Thanks so much for the kind words man! Yeah, probably not in the form of weekend away but definitely shop tours! I’ll be headed out to Joel’s next weekend to do some videos!
brilliant video very helpful, have just purchased plugs from tig aesthetics. one question though, where did you get your gloves from? they're awesome! cheers! - J
Hey Brad!!! Good to see you again, keep the education coming brother.... Btw, still waiting on my hourglass custom torch holder, shop isnt right with out it 😎
Hey Matthew! Good to see you in the comments. I will keep shoveling it out as fast frequent as I can. If you ordered a torch holder from this last batch, I’ll be shipping them Monday hopefully! Thanks so much and have a great weekend!
Thanks Adam! I run 65 amps on the machine and typically use 80-85% of the pedal.. I have the extra amperage there to utilize really penetrating on restarts and widening the toe width quickly to get going again and avoiding unnecessary concentrated heat input by hanging around too long. 👊🏻
Heeey Brad, I really love your work and your products. I really hope you can ship overseas to Holland. Over here we don't have any company that has such awesome stuff! 🦾🦾🦾🦾
9:40 I do not suggest using any tape, whether it's masking tape or PET tape because all of them leave some kind of glue residue, and when a pipe is tacked together it's impossible to remove all of the tape residue without getting some of that inside the joint, between the two metals.
Whether it is Tube or pipe.. Powder coating tape leaves no residue.. that’s why I use it... I appreciate your input and I can promise you my recommendation works and works well. I have welded plenty of aerospace parts using this method that have very strict requirements and I have also used this same method to weld many many titanium and stainless tube assemblies. Have a great weekend!
@@hourglassingenuity103 Just did a check as to what powder coating tape means for you, but it's the same PET tape of what I thought it was. I believe in your experience, if you say that it leaves no residue. I hadn't yet done any weld job that needed X-ray but I would imagine that it would have left residue (I am extremely meticulous about cleanliness). I really like that you read and answer all relevant comments, you're a cool guy.
YszapHun I try and read and answer every comment if I can! I really appreciate your opinion on the topic and I enjoy reading your comments because you seem very educated. I have never had any trouble with residue but I have had massive amounts of trouble with using scotch brite on a tacked joint and introducing fibers into the joint and have contamination issues that way. Either way, so many ways to do something! Thank you for your time and engagement. 🙌🏻
I have seen it used but my background is in automotive fab and Aerospace and I would never be in the situation to absolutely have to use that method. Great alternative in a pinch though. 👍🏻
Why is having a diffuser on the purge so important? Argon is heavier than oxygen. Just like the water example, filling up a glass is going to be the same if the water is diffused or not. It's still going to remove the air exactly the same as it fills up from the bottom.
You would be appalled if you saw some of the shit that people do in the building trades. "Back purge? Nah, that takes to long besides it's not really necessary for what we're doing." I hear that all the time, and we're a skilled trade.
Basically junk? Very harsh judgement when not stating for which application it is considered junk part. 99% post turbo exhaust parts are not purged and I have made many exhausts with or without purge. Not a single cracking after years of use. When in contact with liquid, intake, or very high temperatures all 100% purged when using austenitic steel and high nickel alloys.
Not harsh at all. Anything that isn’t purged is low quality. Sorry. 🤷🏻♂️. I don’t know who this 99% of post turbo exhaust parts that isn’t being purged is.. but that’s False info. I literally don’t know anyone who doesn’t purge exhaust parts in this industry.. and I know a lot of people in it. Sorry to hurt your feelings.. have a good day.
Running a water line in a beverage facility now, this video answered my question perfectly!
That’s fantastic!
I'm stunned at the quality in these videos both the knowledge and the teaching ability.

I’ve been curious about these TIG aesthetics purge plugs. I’ve got zero purging experience and have been wanting to try it. Awesome video Brad 👊🏻
Thank you very much! I highly recommend them. They work fantastic! If you ever need any help send me a message on Instagram. Have a great weekend!
Great video! I do have a quick question though, where can I find the scotch brite for the bench grinder?
3M sells them.

No we considered my purge would blow out the shielding gas. Thanks!

YszapHun don’t know if PET tape is the same as kapton tape. But kapton tape has been the go to for many. And as brad said, it doesn’t leave residue.
