This is only a fusion weld, the reason for not doing this in most pipe applications is because you loose pipe thickness at the weld. Using a filler wire and welding to at least flush will always be stronger.

Did this for years. Works well welding at the top using a turning mechanism. Start at the bottom where everything is stationary. Won't work. You should get out of the workshop and start welding in place. It won't work. The root will fall out at the bottom. I'll bet you on that one! 😃 10:15

We know that amps vs travel speed can equal a great root weld on sch 10 & sch 5 but tell the viewers how you “visually” knew you were getting perfect penetration while making the weld. Yes, there needs to be a cap on the weld because you’ve used the 1/2 removed bevel internally but nominal wall needs to be maintained. For a root but it will not equal the amount of wall removed! My company has fusion welded sch 10 & sch 5 SS since before 1967!!! New to you but not to all!

I think the only value is the excellent coverage of the weld pool.

Am I a dumbass or did this video showed two pipes FUSED together without using a welding rod? Don't think they were selling a welding technique for high pressure (even tho I'm sure it could handle a fair amount of pressure) pipe joinery. But joining two pipes together by simply melting (fusing) them together is pretty special in my book, I've never seen this done before. Also to the bozo that was harping on there was only being one side beveled is because the non-beveled side provided the metal for the weld. I can see where maybe in a pinch you could get the pipe back on line until you acquired more rods.
p.s. there is "always" an abundance of little know-it-alls hungering for more attention because they no longer live at the end of momma's coattails and their wives don't brag on them seven twenty fours.
