I was doing battle with moles. Tried poison, tried the old-fashioned trap with the spikes, tried home remedies. NOTHING WORKED. Then I found out what the local MoleMan was using to catch moles and charge $60 per mole! He has a truckload of these traps he sets in the afternoon, pulls out the moles in the morning and gets paid! Buy your own and stop them dead!

    Matt,
The Out-of-sight Mole traps work also. Similar design to the more expensive EZ-Set Traps. The Out-of-sight Mole trap is just harder to set. The first one I put out worked over-night. I bought 4, so the moles here haven't got a chance.

If the moles are a different type, like the star nosed mole which makes mounds of dirt because their tunnels are much deeper, then you have to set a different trap or more easily just dig a hole in the middle of a tunnel run and place a bucket of water in it below the hole. Cover the hole with a board and when they make that run again, they'll fall in the bucket.

First, I use a 7/16" dia., 32 inch long wooden dowel rod, with a sharpened point on one end, to probe the "New Mole Runs" for exact location and run direction. Then I insert the trap into the run accordingly. Sometimes I use my hand to set the trap. Sometimes I step on the trap with my foot per the instructions. Either way works. Results: I get the Mole every time. I cut my grass today and spotted a new run. I used the above method and caught the Mole in one hour. Using the above method, I am a Mole's worst nightmare! :)

If you can see their tunnel system, you'll notice that they have a couple main runs with dead end branches off them. You simply collapse a spot on the main run and when they're doing their morning walk around the block, they'll try to push the dirt back up in that spot in order to maintain the run. When they push up, they'll get trapped. Setting the trap on a branch run is not as effective because they don't always use the branches. Easiest to see if the grass is cut and covered with dew.

I use this one and it works well. It's important to find a fresh tunnel and to compress it with your heel and then set the trap straight down. Also, if you have rocky soil, you must clear any rocks out of the way or they will impede the trapping action. Happy hunting!

Nice, I can see the similarity and it looks like that victor model might have a stronger spring. Is the trap coated with some anti-rust coating? One thing that I found with all my other traps is that they rust very quickly while the EZ set is coated or hot dipped galvanized and hasn't shown any rust.

how do u know where to put the traps. Right where they stop moving the earth or do u have to ambush them some how. I'm fortunate to not have this problem but i'm thinking of getting into the extermination part of problem animals and that's one critter I have no idea in the world of how to get them

  • @MattKnowsThat

I think they're most active in the springtime, and I know for a fact that they're active super early in the morning, around sunrise. Best luck is to find their trails in the evening and set the traps. In the morning you'll have moles before you're done with your first coffee.

Since you mentioned this was taken at about 17:00, is there a specific season or month when they are most active?

Do you have any experience with the Nash mole choker trap? I believe Iowa State tested several types and of the 75 moles they caught, 70 were caught with the Nash traps.

totally reusable, just loosen the jaws to remove the mole and set it again.

I have tried this trap.It does not work.I have placed it on directly over the run,and the moles ignore it and move around it.We have tried everything from juicyfruit gum to gummies to poision gummies from Tomcat. Nothing works.

I have alot of moles in my yard. Yes it is annoying when i walk in my backyard but now i just decided to let them be they are only doing what a mole is suppose to do. I try not to kill a animal unless it is in my immediate space such as mice but since they are in the backyard i am gonna give them a pass and let them live.

Only works when you have mole tunnels. I don't have visible tunnels, just holes. How would this work:?

    • @MattKnowsThat
      @MattKnowsThat  7 лет назад +1

Are there mounds too? If there are mounds but no tunnels, that's a Star Nosed Mole. If there are just holes, that might be voles or shrews. For a star nosed mole you need to dig a hole and put a bucket in the pathway of a tunnel and cover it with a board so no daylight shines in. Then when they go along the tunnel, they'll fall into the bucket. For a vole or shrew you need to use a trapline type of trap or sometimes just a couple mousetraps around hole. Voles and shrews come up and run along the ground sometimes. Good luck.

You might have gophers and not moles if you see mounds.

Wow. That's a flawed understanding of moles. You're just moving a pest to somebody else's property. These moles dig up patios, foundations of homes and destroy lawns and gardens. If it's destroying your property, the only solution is to kill. I don't expect you to understand that, but that's just the way it is.
