  • How to kill moles. If you're watching, then you know how frustrating it can be to have moles ruin your yard. I started using this method about 6 years ago after trying spike traps, poison worms, and other methods with very little success. If you want to get rid of the moles in your lawn, then you need an effective method that gives you proof of dead moles. The scissor trap is the most effective mole removal method available today. So simple that anyone can use it.
To get rid of moles in your lawn, you need to do two things. Start with a scissor trap and then find an active travel run. A travel run is one that generally travels in a straight(ish) line going from point A to point B. This is not going to be a cluster of tunnels with mounds in it. Those are foraging locations and they aren't likely to return to the same exact spot. The travel corridors can be flattened out by foot and then checked on for return activity.
In this video, the travel run had been flattened out by my garden tractor tires less than an hour earlier. The mole had already traveled through again. This is a perfect location to place a mole trap. Flatten it out again and set your trap.
Buy scissor traps online at Amazon and have them shipped to your house! There's several good choices to help you remove moles from your yard!

The scissor traps (I have 4) have been awesome, I have caught at least 30 or more moles over the last 8 years with them. You made a very good video with only one difference to how I do it. When compressing the trap down to level, I rock the trap back and forth across the tunnel with my foot still on the compressed trap lightly. This way the blades have no obstruction and a clear shot. I have had only two failed empty traps, no credit to me for that knowledge, the Man who sold it to me explained that to me.

Great advice. Worked perfectly for me. I ordered one trap, set it around 4pm and it nailed a mole by 7pm. Amazing or just beginners luck. Either way, I followed the advice in this video exactly and it worked.

Great video, I wish I was as fortunate as you to get rid of my mole. Right after watching your video I bought two of these from Amazon which came same day and was ready for some Urban Hunting to get the little devil. My friend has had great success using these so he can vouche for them. I followed all the “instructions” from the top rated reviewer (don’t touch with bare hand to keep scent off trap, ect., ect), and after 3 days the little jerk was still having a party. So I watched another video about learning their active times and to just use a shovel. Next morning I put on my face paint and got savage! I caught him that very morning and spiked him on the ground like I caught the game winning TD!

I agree the scissor traps are the most effective but with one exception. The Victor Plunger # 0645 works better where straight objects like a raised bed planter attract moles that burrow tunnels around it. The Victor Plunger trap can sit right next to the flat surface and accurately target the tunnel that runs parallel to the flat side. The scissor trap doesn't work in this case. Other than the exception above, I agree, scissor traps are the most reliable method to catch them. I've used scissor traps for over ten years. They work and what better evidence than a dead body to know you killed the pest?

I've caught two in just 21 days. There's a knack to using it. It's not as easy as a mouse trap! You need to observe the tunnel activity. I loosened the bolts 1/2 turn for more sensitivity. It took 8 days for the first mole, 2 days for the second mole. Both were caught after a heavy rain when earthworms are more active.

This year the local population of moles has gone completely out of control! Tried all the usual baits, worms, MoleMax & foggers back in May, but our yard was still quickly becoming a war zone. Neighbor even resorted to these friggin annoying sonic spikes (grr, that high pitched sound every 30 seconds really ticked me off so I gutted the one she set closest to my house). Bought 2 of these traps in June. It is now September, & despite the fact our yard is tiny & in the middle of the city where it really should only support 1-2 moles, we've already caught/killed 11 of these pests with our traps. Thinking of buying some to give out as Christmas presents to the neoghbors.

Just a follow up. Went with the poison after having new lawn nearly ruined by moles and wasting weeks with the trap. While there may be some environmental issues the pesky moles were GONE in two days. Zero activity now for about 10 days. Placed the poison which looked like fake grubs in the holes and in 48 hrs no more moles! I even looked and I could see some of the poison was taken from the where I had placed it.

  • @Redneck_Ed
    @Redneck_Ed 3 года назад +3

The devil is in the details. You're right, a straight run is essential. You also need to look for a spot where it looks like the mole is tunneling closer to the surface so that you can be sure the jaws will catch them when they come by. I personally do not tamp the tunnels down around the trap though. I've done this before and it can discourage the moles from re-using that route and possibly cause them to tunnel around or make an entirely new tunnel.

I Just bought the same trap! Got it at Tractor Supply for $29.00
I had bought a different trap and the first time I set it the welds broke on it, so I exchanged it and paid $5 more for the easy scissor mole trap.
I tried tried those stakes that making noise and vibrate, I tried the worm poison, poison pellets and none od them worked!!
So, I decided to start whacking a mole!! Or should I say scissor a mole?! 😂
The only thing I'm worried about is that, like your mole, trap may not kill it (but have it trapped) and I have to finish it off.

I've had about 4 of these for years now, they work awesome. Keep them oiled as they can corrode over time and stick open. I sharpened mine more like a scissors, as much as I hate moles, I don't like making anything suffer more than needed (just a carry over from my hunting.) I'm not a p.e.t.a. freak, just wanted a "cleaner" kill. I was getting several still alive. With the sharpening, some actual cut in half, the others either die instantly or bleed out. Just make sure to sharpen the outside edges so the blades are still tight against each other.

I did not find any thing helpful to get rid of moles, however, after so
many trials with traps, poison without success, I had found a way to
kill moles by using mouse trap (the one with spring, 2x4 inch wood
board, available at Home Depot). All we need is to use a small piece of
earth worm as bait then put the trap in front of the hole, make sure
clearance for the trap mechanism to snap then use a carton box to cover
the trap & the hole. Guarantee you will find a dead mole the next
day. I have been so frustrated with this animal for quite some time and I
can breath a sigh of relief now knowing how to handle this destructing
    animal.

Hi, don't place at the mounds, but look for long, sort of straight paths. These paths could still weave around, but they aren't a big cluster of bumpy lawn. They are like a travel corridor going from point A to point B and are reused frequently. Flatten down and see if they pop back up and you'll know you're in a good area.

I had over 50 holes because they just kept coming after nothing worked,, THIS WORKS,,, everything else dissipates or requires constant monitoring,, do this,, it has a lingering effect and fertilizes your yard,, works for voles, moles, gophers,, all tunneling critters,, HOLY SH!T,, LOL,, it's been two weeks and no new mounds,,

So, what about if the runs are deeper? I have several moles but they are a lot deeper.

Great video, everyone has had issues with moles.
For some reason around here they do not have surface tunnels as
you show. The tunnels are deeper and will make mounds as they
excavate. Its a little trickier to find main runs. I use the
Victor Out of Sight Traps. The same scissor type but you have to
    dig a hole for them.

@Joe you can still get them if you are persistent and set your traps when they are in use

That's how my moles are too, they dig deeper tunnels and lots of mounds.

@@ocrun6765 when you excavate your mounds and don't find a tunnel running through the mound (in and out in a straight line) your set will only have a 50% chance of success (tunnels at right angles or only one tunnel leading in. But if it's fresh it's still worth a set. The key is to keep on the fresh mounds and you can control them. 1 mole can ruin your yard, OR you can do what my Mom did (may you rest in peace ma) She had very rocky soil and collected the dirt from the mounds to plant her flowers and such and told me that the moles had a job to do too and appreciated all the fresh dirt...

Watched your Video yesterday and got my first mole today!
Can I reset the trap on the same run?

Check to see if the run is still active or not. More than one mole will use the run, but tamp it down and see if it pops back up. Just always put them on active runs.

Hey I been able to use to the trap once to catch a mole, now for some reason my trap will not set in place again it keeps popping out of place. Do you know why this is?

I set the trap, I came out the next morning and it was sprung. When I pulled the trap up, I kinda just forced it up and didn't really dig it up or anything. Is it possible for that to dislodge the mole from the trap and leave it underground?

The ONLY thing that has ever worked for me has been scissor traps. I put a bucket upside down on top of the trap to keep the dog from messing with it. I also have to put a large rock on top of the upside down bucket so if a dog is playing and bumps it the bucket stays in place
