I have tried almost everything ....this stupid truck is a pulling/ hauling truck. It pulls horse trailers ect...... .But here lately I. Loosing power. I was going up the Mountain after work today, and it lost power. It made it but at 15 mph all the way over. Then last week we had a friend that needed some stuff hauled to Landfill. It was only about 100 extra lbs, and once again lost power... help !! Thanks

I love Scotty, how you go regularly beyond the prevalent 'find the faulty part and replace it' mentality. I believe that you provide a great service with these unOrtodox instructional videos for those, to whom car is not a luxury toy, but rather an essential tool of transportation, which has to be maintained in a pinch. Knowing how the average age of vehicles are rising the last few decades, we maybe in the majority too.

Thank you a lot Scotty. My Pontiac Torrent 06 got this kind of EGR valve and it used to got the same problem. The thief in the dealership wanted to change all the valve setup and charge me $600 (pieces + labor) for replace it. I almost snapped a tooth when he told me that.

It seemed to fix the problem quite well and the light hasnt been on since. Even if rusted out, get some WD40 and spray it and run the vehicle a couple of times, on your last run, spray the bolts with cold water when the engine is still hot and then try to remove the bolt, if you have an impact gun it will come off easy. I did this to a 2003 Honda Pilot that I thought for sure that it would break off because of the way it looked (almost melted).

Thats some good advice - i’m gonna try this. My Impala 2002 keeps throwing this code(p0401) dealership said they cleaned it, but the code came back. So i’m thinking i need to get in there and really clean it/maybe lube it like you did there. Its also got an evap code now, unsure where it’s coming from. The car is only at 36K, but it has likely sat a while, and i got it from cali (hot weather) and i live in wi. I’m still trying to untangle all the issues with it.

you could have a problem with the EVAP vent system, see that a lot with such a problem. when near E, there is a lot of empty space so the pump can push out fuel better with less resistance as a full or half full tank would have.

I love your channel, I love all your videos, all that I've seen there are still a lot that I wanna see from you. You're absolutely right in this video and perfect sense. BTW, when you blew on the EGR with your mouth I felt like it was a little too close for comfort. I hope there weren't any carbon that stuck to your lips.
Don't be disappointed though, bec., I went on to do an EGR delete. Blocked the in & out of that sucker completely. From the in section & it's out section of my 4runner turbo diesel. Not legal in some places. If your DMV is very thorough. I just wanna share the other things I do for my vehicle some of your followers might agree or like it & some might not, just make sure you use top grade but low viscous 100%synth oil like pennzoil or valvoline are my faves, next in line are castrol, motul, or mobil1 0w-30, zic is good too & also liqui moly, I've used it. synth all the way. 0w-30. Add more grounding cables and don't neglect to put in some fresh top grade glow plugs if you can get an slightly uprated aftermarket glow plug, get it. Don't go bonkers with it. Just the next step up. Not two or definitely note 3 or more steps up. Use aftermarket air filters like K&N.

Mr. Scotty, great minds think alike! I used the same technique 3 months ago to unplug the EGR tube on my 91 LS400. Apparently "the book" suggests removing the transmission to due there not being enough clearance to remove the bolts at the bottom of the tube. Ridiculous! I went a step further and disconnected the cats to prevent debris from plugging them up. An "8hr" job was reduced to 1 hr including one well deserved cold one at the end of the job.

I replaced the throttle body, cleaned the EGR system, and had the "Throttle Pedal Actuator" (Gas Pedal) reset. Should i buy a new TPA? VW had to think outside the box and use an electric signal instead of fly-by-wire. any suggestions? Oh and it's a 5-speed.

  • @sjs2657g
    @sjs2657g 11 лет назад +1

No, not necessarily. Exhaust Gas Recirculation Valve would get carbon buildup from unburned fuel. There are numerous ways that this could happen. Bad spark plug, bad O2 sensor, bad vacuum line, blow-by, almost anything. Carbon build up inside the engine is usually blow-by, that has reacted to your oil. All cars have some blow-by, so it's by an individual case-by-case basis. You no longer see black soot [Carbon buildup] on tailpipes because of Catalytic Convertors.

may have just bent the dust shield on the brakes, pull the wheels and see if that's rubbing now. Pray it's that easy.

Thanks for your answer. This particular model has a mechanic fan, so you think it will be better to change the radiator? How can i check if the fan clutch is still working? I was thinking to replace it with an electric fan triggered by a thermoswitch or something.

that you for the response between 1999 - 2001 Isuzu used the same engine on the trooper and the vehicross. They are notorious for pcv valve sticking open and burning oil in the cylinders. Believe it or not this is a racing engine designed by Isuzu and built by GM and the rest of the drive

either the fan cooling the radiator isn't working right, OR the radiator is old and can't dissipate the extra head AC causes and needs replacing now

okay thanks but i don't know if i should buy it considering that im pretty sure visible smoke coming from the exhaust or engine will fail inspection right?

under the glove box should be an open two terminal connector. You jump those terminals together using a jumper wire. then the code flashes as in this video

Good video as always. Only suggestion I could give is a better way to fix an Isuzu...which is cliff, brick, gas pedal.

Do you need to spray Carburetor cleaner and WD-40 inside if it is a new EGR Valve? Also maybe it is better to spray inside PB Blast Penetrate or Fluid Film (for Rust and Corrosion protection)? I installed a new EGR, but it didn't fix the light (code P0446, but sometimes also P0401: Exhaust Gas Recirculation Flow insufficient Detected). I didn't clean the holes (neither feeding nor Intake manifold ones), I didn't know about that part of the work. Thank you for a great film.

Thanks for this vid and tips.....
What vehicle(s) are easier to extract a speedometer cable, to upcycle into a roto-rooter !?
I was at my fave recycler, but ran out of time.
Maybe pop back tomorrow, if not a snowstorm early pm nor too chilly ;-)
    Thanks

Had this code on my Camry for over a year now. Replaced the EGR modulator and VSV as well as cleaned out the Valve. Still no good, I think I have a vacuum leak now!!

this gm liner egr valve it can be bolted on backwards if it happens the vacuum from the engine will lift the valve off its seat and cause a vacuum leak and trip a pintle code

tons of things wear out in old trucks, my advice, see a good front end man for a free analysis and estimate on what's really worn. replace the most worn parts first.

Reminds me of the days I used to own VWs, and spend time once a month cleaning out PCV valves.

Scotty, when you reamed out the EGR's intake passage (smaller opening) with the piano wire is there a danger of those carbon dirt chunks being sucked into the combustion chamber and messing up the engine? Similar to like when a car is run without an air filter.

generally carbs need overhauling, they are pretty cheap little things that clog easily.

Scotty, long hair looks good on you. You look like John Lennon; my favorite. After fixing Hummer, you need to tune up the Stingray that appears in the intro as well. Its exhaust blows like a factory chimney from 1960s.

you lose the egr valve function, which can make the catalytic converter run hotter and create more NOX gas.

I have the same problem with my 2017 Prius. Unfortunately, the valve is very hard to get to and involves taking the whole damn thing apart, including the battery inverter. Expensive job. :(

excellent video one of the best I've seen on cleaning that type of EGR valve. But I'm not sure what to think about the blowing part😃
