I brought my Subaru Forester 2010 to a garage because it's idle was really rough and the guy tested the egr valve (connecting and disconnecting it) while the key was on RUN. When he tried to restart the engine, the ECM was not working anymore. Is it possible that the test would have burned the ECM by having the EGR valve sending a sudden spike to the ECM?
I did the vacuum test on my Mitsubishi Eclipse GS and it holds the vacuum but when I apply vacuum the throttle body opens up. So when I do the test with the engine running at idle it actually revs up instead of stalling or wanting to stop. Is that a sign of a bad EGR valve?
Is the ohms testing the same for the terminals on a 2008 Suzuki Grand Vitara 2.7 gas engine? The terminals look exactly the same and the valve itself is very similar looking. I'm getting no resistance at all (complete continuity) between the same terminals shown in this video.
Is it always supposed to hold vacuum across the board on all vehicles and models? I just bought a new egr for a ford econoline and it doesnt hold vacuum fresh out of the box. When I have it installed and idling the car and I apply vacuum with the pump it does want to stall out but it doesnt hold vacuum.
Im getting P0402 Exhaust Gas Excessive Flow. Took out my EGR valve and cleaned it out, put it back in, same code. I also remover the modulator and cleaned it along with the EGR. Decided to get a new EGR and installed it. Same code. Found out my Cats guts were in my muffler and was essentially gone so I just replaced that today. If the code comes back does anyone have any idea what I can do. Its a 1997 Toyota Tacoma 2wd 2.4
The old-style EGR valves used vacuum to operate the valve via a diaphragm (the vacuum was used to provide movement of the diaphragm which then moved the valve - like a power brake booster). An electronic EGR valve uses a solenoid to open or close the valve.
May I ask a question? Does an 09 Honda have the same values as the 03 Honda you tested? I did a tune up on an 09 Honda Fit, including replacing the ignition coils since I was in there and it ran beautifully for about three weeks then performance dropped dramatically out of nowhere. The diagnostic came up a bad EGR valve. Some people claim a dirty valve can do this but unless the build up is enough to keep the valve in one position, I don't see how cleaning it really would solve anything. I think the way mine failed, the solenoid had to go bad. It's not being driven open because the engine runs great initially but as I drive and the engine heats up, that's when I can notice loss of performance. Are the pin values the same???
Hey all, If I connect a gauge and hose to the EGR should the needle be reading anything specifically? I replaced my EGR and tested it and it stayed at 0 even at op. temp. It's a 1979 F250 and the EGR is attached to the spacer plate at the carb. Let me know! Thanks
good day CarsNToys , on the Honda part, I have a 2000 Honda Accord ex 4cyc 2.3L I CHECK 1and 2 pin getting 1.395 and 1 and 3 getting 1. or it jumps around different numbers, is it good or bad EGR can you HELP PLEASE....
Hi! Thank you for this video. I have a Ford Mondeo from 2005. A 2,0 gasoline engine with 107kW. I got the DTC P0403. I have a electric typ of EGR-valve. I did check the EGR-valve with a multimeter just like in the video. I have approx 14ohm on all the terminals. You mention in the video that you should have 22-24 ohms but I have approx 14 ohm on all my terminals. Is this OK or is my EGR-valve broken? Thank you!
To return exhaust gas back into the engine to help cool the burning of fuel to lower toxic emissions. If burning too hot, it comes out as toxic nitrogen oxide
The egr is exhaust gas recirculation so when it’s engaged, it’s feeding exhaust gas back to the engine. When done manually on a cold motor like in the vid, it causes the engine to run rough. Normally It’s suppose to engage when the car is running warmer to help cool the burning of fuel and lower emissions.
Totally useless test for electronic EGR. Just measuring continuity of stepper motor windings. Don't know if valve is stuck open, closed, or is leaking.
If i unplug the egr electrical connection while running, and the engine idle doesn't change while in park. Does that mean its bad? Please answer man, my car is hurting.

what about harness ?
Can the EGR valve make the car randomly shut off while driving or idle? If not do you know what it can be?
Yes bad egr will make your car run rough and stall

Why does the vehicle runs rough when he applied the vacuum? Doesn't the engine do that when its running?

Thank you
Vacuum is vacuum, just enough to test it but no to much to break the diaphragm
thank you so much for your help :)
Glad to help.
How do u know if it's the connector piece that is attached to the car
Jago08 Visual inspection.
So 198 ohms that moves around then goes to OL is bad. 👍🏻
Shouldn't it stall when vacuum applied??
Or is just running poorly good enough?
Thanks for the Honda info. Of 100000 ohms 👍
What if the vacuum holds (egr membrane is good) but the car does not stall/does not stop?
If it does not stall when u apply vacuum to the egr with the engine running than egr is bad. If it does hesitate & wanting to stall than egr is good
Can you check the egr off the car this way
Typically, yes.
What If it dont read at all
