2. Thanos did what he did due to what he believed was right for the world, not out of spite, not out of being a one-sided, moustache wielding villain, just out of his own personal views. Maybe if you payed attention to his backstory in Infinity War for at least 0.1 seconds instead of writing up a comment with a spelling mistake per each grain of sand, then you wouldn't have to be lectured this much.
To me, THIS is the scene in which the avengers truly were forced to accept they lost. Not during the snap, this scene. Thanos won, and there was nothing they could do about it. Killing thanos gained them absolutely nothing at this point. This scene was so powerful
yea cause before this scene they still thought they could get the stones and reverse it, but once they realized the stones were destroyed, they lost all hope. but then ant man came and was like hey guys we can still time travel :)

For Thanos, nothing was more important than his work. Now that his work was complete, he’s going back and realizing all of the things he failed to cherish, including his treatment of Nebula.
And yet it’s way too little, too late.
Regardless what happened. THAT Thanos went to his grave knowing he’d won. Which he did. Something the Avengers were unable to take away from him.

This scene is so powerful. Thanos won. He died knowing he won. And Thor broke. He lost so much that all that is left for him is depression. Which movie played out perfectly later.

Thanos used the Infinity Stones one last time to make it so that they could never be used again, hence the "reduced to atoms" line. But doing such an action nearly killed him, which was his intention all along. He didn't care anymore if he lived or died. His mission was accomplished.

Yes I’m not the only one who found this death a little harsh in a way 😭😭😭. He was simply sat there in peace tryna eat his food and then gets raided. Gets his arm cut off and then gets his head chopped off. But at the same time. After the murdering he did. And wiping out all those people. They had to try something if there is a chance. You could see the pain in thors face when he realised what’s done has been done and after losing so many of his people due to thanos he just wanted to kill him.
Its because we see thanos lose those body parts that it looks brutal. He did murder trillions but they just evaporated so it had less of a impact than seeing body parts get removed

The way that Thor sounds when he said "I went for the head." You can tell in his voice that he sounds like he's going to break. In that reality, Thanos had already won and nobody could take that away. Thor, realizing that he lost everything and I mean everything, finally gave up after seeing what happened as irreversible. This scene really plays a marvelous job at conveying the emotions that needed to through very minimal lines, and I believe that's the mark of good writing.
Man I kinda wanted Thanos to survive. Was just chillin making soup :((

Especially when Thor walks down the steps, it can be seen as a descent into depression, he fades from colourful to a silhouette, into darkness, and the screen blurs, foreshadowing his days will be blurred together with drinking, and eating. The music hits hard too. Hard days, descent into darkness, days blurred together by alcohol and food. Marvel literally took a god and made him human with feelings

He killed much more than half his people. He annihilated most of the surviving Asgardians BEFORE the snap, which removed 50% of those that remained. I'd be shocked if 5% of the Asgardians survived Ragnarok and Thanos.

The fact that Thor's response to the question is only understood by him and the audience.
One of the reasons this scene is so memorable is the fact that Marvel movies for the most part stray from violent and gruesome deaths. They went out of their way to show just how far Thor has fallen. He just let his rage take him and then they show a villain having their arm cut off followed by literally being decapitated then watching his head fly through the air spraying blood everywhere. Thor just didn't care anymore. He was never going to walk away a second time without "winning" the next "fight"
I love how the shot at 0:31 makes it look like Thanos is using the Infinity Gauntlet to raise up a part of the ground, but it's actually just Bruce digging into his hut

this scene is actually pretty brutal for a MCU movie
nah. they had quite a few brutal scenes before. Yondu killing his crew with his Arrow. Thanos breaking Lokis Neck, Hela´s Killingspree on Asgard, Ultron cutting Klaues Arm. Pietro getting Shot. Crossbones burned Body+ He dies in a burning explosion.

The way he says it, you can tell it's not meant to be taken as a joke. A lot of people laughed in the theater when he said it, but there's genuine pain in his voice when he says it as if he's really trying to say, "What I should've done the first time..."

Disney did a LOT of dumb stuff with the MCU, but in this particular case, the comics were worse. Every thing a character did that they didn't like, every dead character they wanted to bring back, it was all explained with those magic words at one point or another during that storyline: "he/she was actually a skrull."

Thor has still some people left…Je should get his shit together, and help them. It’s his duty. (Also if I were Thor, I would keep in mind that Thanos had all infinity stones when Thor attacked. What’s to say Thanos didn’t use them to make sure that Thor didn’t “go for the head” ? It’s a thing to keep in mind and tell yourself, until you believe it. That way you can get over it and at least help what’s left of Asgard)
You can see the depression start to set into Thor, his spirit is broken knowing all the deaths are irreversible and his people are all gone.
And as shown when he reunited with Bruce and Rocket, it only got worse within the following five years. Thor had officially lost EVERYTHING. He had watched his entire family all die right in front of him, over half of his people that survived Ragnarok were now gone, Jane had already left him even before then, and what was left of the Avengers never really spoke to Thor after Thanos' death. Thor isolated himself within New Asgard where he continuously blamed himself for his own failures and slowly fell apart for the first few years, then what was left of him afterwards simply drowned the mixture of depression and loneliness with alcohol up until Bruce and Rocket came to him, since the only friends he had left at that point were a rock man and an alien grub that can't even speak his language.

@@UltimateMMAhighlights well I'm sure thanos wasn't thinking of the celestials, but basically celestials prepare planets to give birth to new celestials but the population of that planet has to reach a certain amount in order for the birth to happen I believe. And so they are either saying that because he killed half the universe, it stopped many celestials from destroying worlds but I believe he didn't do it for that because he would have said so imo. So like I guess he indirectly saved earth in a way.
i really love the "my father is a lot of things... a liar isn't one of them". it makes sense, he raised his daughters to not lie because he himself doesn't lie. gamora is bad at lying about the soul stone, and nebula is bad at keeping her mouth shut so as not to anger peter quill.

We literally know this because Thanos himself shows it; if you bothered to pay attention to the movies, you would see that Thanos is incredibly honest and rarely goes back on his word. When he offered Earth to Loki, he meant it. When he tells Stark that he hopes Earth remembers Stark, there's no reason to think he's insincere. And of course, when he gets his hands on universal power itself, he only does what he said he would do - destroy half of all life - and doesn't use the Infinity Stones to kill needlessly after that or to conquer anything. In the comics, they're used by a physically zombified individual with no movement at all. All that is needed is thought. The snap is performative, it's a trigger in Thanos' own mind only. Had he merely concentrated, he could have done ANYTHING with them. He's just not very smart.

In fact, it's confirmed that the comics and movies literally occur in two completely different universes in the canon multiverse (no different than how Peter Parker's 616 universe and Miles Morales' 1610 universe are two separate universes in one multiverse). And here, it is _NEVER_ shown that you can use the Gauntlet without a physical trigger.
And yeah, Thanos obviously is very smart; outsmarting Tony Stark (a canon supergenius above anyone in real-life), effectively led _several_ different interstellar armies at the same time besides just the Chitauri, was able to efficiently train Gamora and Nebula into two of the most dangerous female warriors in the galaxy on the same tier as some of the Avengers' best martial artists (his abusive parenting aside), and ultimately prevailed in his plan to erase half of all life against the greatest superhumans of Earth. So yeah, definitely big-brained. Pay attention next time.

The last scene with Thor walking away is so heartbreaking. He is broken, defeated. He has truly lost everything.
His parents.
His friends.
His home.
His brother.
And after all that he even loses out on the satisfaction from killing Thanos because it’s too late. His death is meaningless and won’t bring back anyone Thor lost. Can you blame him for falling into depression? He had every right to.
After my first gf broke up with me I sort of fell into a similar depression and defeat (I didn't gain 50 lbs and eat cheese whiz non stop, but I def spent long periods being withdrawn and not carrying about my appearance as much). WHen I eventually spoke to her months later in person for closure (and to request re-payment/return of some items) and to ask her if she'd still be in my life as a friend/training partner she turned me down. I went home with that same feeling of defeat and cried until 2am ET. Afterwards spent 4 years between gf.
But like Thor I eventually rose out of it. Took alot of support and rebuilding of my own self confidence but I got there. So lots of life lessons to learn from the Avengers.

This shows how Bruce was done with hulk completely
He got so mad that he made me think his blood was getting filled with adrenaline
And also no one blamed Bruce for pushing Thanos either because he was channeling the anger and horror they all felt in what Thanos did by murdering trillions with the snap.
I never realized how well made this scene was. They let him do it for 2 reasons. First and foremost, they knew that he couldn't control it and that he deserved to. Second, none of them could stop him anyway.

I love how this scene recreated the same feeling of despair at the end of Infinity War. IW leaves you after seeing all your favorite hero’s die and Thanos achieving his goal. In Endgame, you realize along with the Avengers that they’re dead and they aren’t coming back. That feeling of despair is so powerful It’s like you’re standing in the hut with them.

Thanos is the epitome of a hero misunderstood as a villain. In the end, the avengers became the villains because they created split realities through time travel, something that actually breaks the rules of the universe.

Thor felt like he failed at Wakanda and came here to right his wrong. Once he learned that the stones were destroyed and nothing can bring back the dead, he had nothing left but to kill Thanos. Even then it didn’t bring any satisfaction because Thanos already won

I think, from the end of _Infinity War_ right up until this scene, Thor barely held together. He suffered quietly, but he still had hope. Thanos revealing that he destroyed the stones, something no one expected him to do, removed that slimmer of hope.
