Yes. I think it's easy (especially for a man) to confuse kindness or even sympathy as a signal of interest. Not so much consciously, but on a subconscious level. People tend to resort to a default mode. However, it's inexcusable to act on it, because that is a decision you make.
This is why our ancestors developed customs and rituals for mate selection. All that is gone now, so we are left with our instincts as guides, so we can very easily err.
I love the caption for this video. It’s so true. That is a fundamental rule in the alternative culture! I wish regular, or the vanilla world, could and would implement all of the practices the alternative relationships culture embodies. Everyone would be happier and safer. Being that it ended up a one on one hike and you were so friendly he might had gotten the wrong idea. It is true that most women will shut down a conversation fast if she has no interest. If you would have had other people with you he would seen that it was just your nature to be nice to everybody. Just my opinion. 🤷
