Very cool review! I think I‘ll try them in my flying V . Thanks for all the details and the nice riffing stuff.🎉
This is dope. Sounds beautiful. Sweet riffing as always
Heavy metal chainsaw - thanks so much. I was trying to riff like Keith as best I could. I wrote this right after namm and have been holding on to it for this demo
This is by far my favorite product demo video of yours in terms of riffs. I catch myself headbanging to the sweet jams instead of focusing on the product. 🤘
Kyle Garcia I'm glad you liked it so much. Been holding on to these riffs for months. Amazing what some better production tools and a better camera can do \m/
You're the first person other than keith to do a demo video of these pickups. well done.
Could you please show a diagram or a picture of the way you wired these pickups into the guitar? I am currently looking at wiring a Solar with these pickups and as you stated...they indeed do not have a good 5 way switch wire diagram. If you could, i would greatly appreciate it!!!
Also- can you put these at an angle like a soapbar style pickup on a multiscale guitar, or do the magnets have to line up with he strings?
as far as I know, yeah the magnets do lineup with the strings
now i just want these pickups but with a cover available
How would you compare these to the stock Duncan Solars? I also have a Washburn Solar ETC 7 string , and I'm not really digging the pickups. Looking for something with a more direct feel, punchier upper mids, and less dark voicing - just overall more aggressive. I've been strongly considering the Merrow set.
That's funny I just put a set in my solar guitar. They have a really low mid punch, and upper mid cut. Clear top end too, and you get a way better split coil, and the paf voicing is super good for cleans. I feel like the Duncan solars are middle of the road.
Can these get a polyphia, plini, intervals, ptv sound from them??? Thanks
Wonder what mode come on his frs models
Very nice video, thanks for sharing that ! I have Fishman KSE , they are very noisy on tube amp, did you notice any difference in output level with others fishman pickups ? Looking for smthg with less noise , it seems that KM set have less output power .
weird, fishman are known for being very low noise. perhaps that is more of a wiring issue. I never noticed any more or less noise with the kse, keith merrow, moderns, classics, willie adler, or devin townsend sets Ive owned. it is worth noting the keith set is more medium output and the kse are definitely high gain, at least on voice 1.
@@MetalHeadProductions I mailed fishman support and they told me everything was fine, wiring double checked. They are very highoutput, it looks like they have double output level.
than EMG85
@@Freestyler913 hmm, I wouldn't say double. the moderns are about what you would get output wise with an 85 or an sd blackout and the moderns have more output than the kse set. weird. Im not sure what would be causing that.
God damn, I cannot wait for these to be available in Europe.
So which do you like better? Keith’s set or devs set? I am so torn on which set to get I have moderns and they’re cool but I really want that single coil sound as well. How do they compare?
The dev set is higher output for sure so they saturate more. the keith set have more upper mid cut, and a low mid grunt that allows the pickups to feel chunky, and for chugs to feel big without having to have the muddy or flubby low end. Both coil splits are fantastic and I wouldn't say one is better than the other. The dev set can have an extra switch put in to switch on a kind of bluesy classic rock crunch, which is comparable to the brown sound you get out of the keith merrow voice 2, but I prefer the keith set for that, and with the dev set that extra voice isn't as easily utilized.
I love both, but prefer the keith set. I feel it's more versatile and I prefer the bridge sound a bit more, but that sound is a medium output pickup, not high.
Metal Head Productions thanks! I like my emg81 for most part minus the cleans...I’ve had bkp ragnaroks & aftermath’s which were dry and dull to my ears...the Fishman moderns are good but I preferred the 81 for high gain maybe from the excessive hi mids & compression...I play in drop A# post rock and metalcore with lots of ambient cleans...which you set (merrow or dev) would be better in an esp horizon? Also considered emg 57/66? Thanks!
Hey man I'm kinda confused and I'm hoping you'd help me out. I wired my set up to where voice 3 is activated from a push pull pot on the bridge tone knob and voice 2 is activated from the neck push pull. Idk if I wired it up wrong but the voice 2, although being described as low output on the website, sounds louder and more full than voice 1. Both sound great but I feel like voice one is more like how voice 2 is described. Is this the same with yours set? I feel like voice one is more vintage sounding. Great vid btw. Helped me make my decision to get rid of my nazgul and sentient set in my guitar.
Yeah that confused me too, haha, but I realized I mixed that up in the video and how I wired it. Voice 1 is the paf low output and voice 2 is Keith's sound, oddly enough
Metalhead Productions thank god im not alone on this. I think fishman has it wrong on their website too. Or the wiring diagram they put up is wrong
@@gilbertduenas6031 I think it's the wiring diagram that tripped us up. They do lost the voicings correctly now, I believe on the site, but still use the old diagram. It's wired like that in my km mkIII as well.
Metalhead Productions hmm strange the voice 3 switching works just fine though so I wonder how that works I'm probably just going to wire it up so that the voice 2 wires are on the opposite prongs on the push pull. Thanks man for your input on this
SO THE KM WERE LOW NOISE ON VOICE 3? ARE THEY ALL LIKE THAT ON VOICE 3? I THOUGHT THEY WOULD BE FREE FROM 60 CYCLE HUM
Not totally free of it, just much lower noise than a standard coil split
Have you tried any other Fishman models to compare the Keith model to?
yeah, I have a video comparing these to the standard fishman fluence modern
ruclips.net/video/xhrPafOKP8U/видео.html
I also own the devin townsend and willie adler sets.
Sick🤘🤘
I wish someone would do a direct comparison of these to the Classics. I really need to hear it, lol
killer work and playing bro, what amp were you using for those punishing riffs?? metal on
Im using a profile of my Randall Satan on my Kemper profiler \m/
Metal Head Productions wow!! thats a killer tone. inknow im bugging but couldbyoubshare thise settings? that amps so punchy and chuggy
The original settings on the satan I profiled were roughly Gain 3 o'clock, Bass 10:30, Mid 12, Treble 1:30 and the OD is setup to misha's preferred settings on the precision drive.
Hey man great review great song and great commentary which is rare (on utube) love the illuminaty stuff :) yeap and no DI for these would u mind please?
I'll have to see about putting up some DIs for people that want them
Metalhead Productions im in a process of selecting and got some di from ola and fluff but they are modern, kse, dt, this KM would be so great to compare as i love passive pups over actives.
@@marcsee4072 I would have to record some DIs. I'll try to find some time to do that to help you out if I can
Does the set come with all the hardware like pots etc?
Yeah, all the fishman sets come with everything, although the Keith set is now discontinued.
@@MetalHeadProductions American Musical Supply is still selling what they have left.
This pickups are passive ? but with battery?
The way Keith likes to put it is they are powered. The pickups are passive with powered voice switching.
Yo bro do you know it if you can use these with a five way switch??
Yeah that's how I had I the merrow set setup in my solar 7 string.
Metalhead Productions fuck yeah bro. Ima buy em, your tone convinced me. And get it set up the same way
Metalhead Productions Hey bro ever since you told me it’s possible to do it a five way switch I bought a set to use in my Vader but what diagram did you use I’m going insane trying to find the right one!
@@sebastiansampson6543 I used the tosin abasi sig set diagram cause that has a 5 way.
Metalhead Productions very much appreciated good sir thank you!!!
The illuminatti are fishman not reptilian and Merrows hair and all the other comments are absolutely hilarious after the Bob Ross Savage Drive I didn't think you could get any better thanks for the laughs and awsome jamming bro 👊
Full Alex Jones 😂😂😂 nice review sir!
Hopefully you read this and maybe can at least guide me in a direction. I dont understand the voicing. My knobbs arent push pull and my switch is only 3 way. I have a 81 and I'm just not happy when the sound I'm getting.
So the voicings are a fishman fluence thing. These don't function like standard active or passive pickups, none of the fluence do. They have stack, think cut coils instead of copper wire wrap. This gives them more precise control over the pick frequencies and output. It also allows these to have more than one sound and output. The push-pull and switches for the different voicings come with these pickups.
An 81 just has the one sound, and can't be split. Only certain EMGs can be coil split.
If you're not happy with the 81 I can't recommend fishman fluence enough. Personally, the Keith merrow set is my all time favorite pickup set, because they are on the higher end of mid output, and pair great with a OD as a boost. Now if you're looking for a more active sound with options that is more open and dynamic than the 81 the fluence moderns are the way to go
@@MetalHeadProductions I'm looking for a pickup that has a good mix of open when playing individual notes but chords are tight. I good groove metal pick up. I have 81s that sound great in a couple guitars but just dont work in 1 and I want a solid replacement that is versatile while in drop b tuning.
@@timothyrussell2971 the fluence moderns active voicing is real tight, lots of output, and it's passive voicing is still fairly hot, less compressed and fatter.
The merrows have a less output than the moderns, the second voicing being more of a paf means they have way less output on that setting. I use the merrows in my 7 string in b and drop A, but I also use and OD as a boost to tighten everything up.
Just depends on your setup
A comparison video is much needed! 😅
I have one planned to compare these to the fishman modern pickups.
my man!
No, compare these to the Nazgul/Sentient set.
Would be great you review of Tosin fishman pickups.
