Excellent video Lucas!!
This is perfect, a completely comprehensive tone demo of both pickups. Thanks Lucas!
i loved this video. helped me decide what to get thanks!
Tosin Bridge Voice 2 is king. Just sounds huge and doesnt have that typical Fluence honk.
The Merrow neck is basically a Classic. Its too bad they are not making the merrow set any longer. I think he has been using lundgrens lately. All of his sig Schecters are discontinued now as will I think... waiting to see the MkIV.
Yeah I saw that.
No they still make his Schecter guitars. In fact he just got a new custom.
I bought a KM-7 III Artist yesterday...just waiting for it to arrive and thought I'd check out what kind of tones I'll be able to get. I noticed that the Mk III Artist models have recently been discontinued and replaced with a 'Legacy' model that has Lundgren M6/M7 pickups. The Lundgrens do seem like great pickups but the versatility of the Fishman set is one of the main draws of the KM-7 Artist for me. 3 voices per pickup, whereas the Legacy model doesn't even have coil split which is surprising for Schecter. I think they want it to have the vibe of the original KM-7 though...just a straightforward metal machine.
There's a few other things I prefer about the Artist model too. Swamp ash body which I love on my Reaper-6. The blue crimson finish looks awesome. Plus the back of the neck looks beautiful. Will be interesting to see how that open pore wenge feels on the back of the neck though, hope it's not something I don't like the feel of. It appears as if the neck is a little slimmer on the Legacy...the usual 19 - 20mm that is Schecter's ultra-slim C. That's another thing I love on my Reaper-6 but the KM-7 Artist is only that tiny bit thicker and still described as ultra-thin so I'm sure I'll like the neck shape.
Interesting that the other Fishman-loaded Merrow signatures are not discontinued. The Hybrid and USA models are still there. I always wondered about the Fishmans in the Hybrid models. They don't have the voice changing which makes sense to differentiate a lower range model, but it would be interesting to know whether the pickups themselves are the same as all the other Merrow sets but just don't have controls wired up for the voice change. I've never seen any Fishman Merrow set available for purchase separately though so maybe they do have 1 and 3 voice variants.
It's a shame that a great pickup set will no longer be available once the remaining Merrow guitars are discontinued. It seemed like the perfect combination of Fluence sounds; high output passive, PAF and single coil voices. I like the versatility from that rather than the narrower scope of the Moderns (that still sound great though). That's one thing I like about Dimarzio, they still sell signature pickups made for artists that no longer endorse them so all of the effort that went into creating a good product doesn't go to waste.
Wow, this is amazing. Thank you for this. Do you have some DI Tracks for us?
I just have subscribed to you!
Thanks for the Sub! I dont have DIs of this session unfortunately.
\m/ awesome Lucas 👍
Between the two, I want to favor the Merrow set.
Dude. You have to A/B the pups back to back on the same riff same position, 1 isolated channel no processing (clean and driven, one at a time). Otherwise is difficult to follow and properly compare apples to apples.
I do that in the demo. Did you watch it? I cut the mix at points and it's just the guitar. And in the amp section I cut off the the little bit of EQ that I did.
@@LucasLeCompteMusic I mean play the same riff on the same settings for each pickup one immediately before the other, before passing to another setting/pup position/riff. Example: Merrow bridge voice 1, then Abasi bridge position 1, Merrow neck position 1, Abasi neck position 1... and so on. SO we can compare right away w/o skipping through the video.
