Hunter will inevitably fuck up. No exceptions. Even if it's something as minor as breaking a string.

I think its a great idea for a new series. Personally I look forward to mods that you are working on, especially if you get your hands on a High Intregrity guitar and turn it into something worthwhile. The last mod is still my favorite video that you ever released. The Hello Kitty mod is a very close second!

BROTIP: Schaller sells 2.2mm wood screws, which negate the need for drilling out pickups.
The existing hole in the guitar needs to be filled with toothpicks and superglue, but at least you don't ruin the pickups.

I've said many times that one of the things I love about my Solar is that I don't have to spend any extra money modding it, because the stock pickups sound great. They sound flat out brutal for heavy riffing but are also quite versatile. This video has just reinforced that opinion in my mind.
For as much hype as I've heard about the Fishman Fluence pickups I was a little surprised at the results here. As far as I'm concerned you just spent a lot of time and money making that guitar sound worse.
This is just my opinion of course and if you're happy with the results then that's great! I'm not trying to be a troll here. I actually really enjoy your content. However I can see from other comments that I'm not alone here.

I have to disagree. I think the KM set is a far better set than the Duncan Solar set. They are tighter, more responsive, more versatile, and more consistent. I know I can buy 5 different KM sets, and still get the same tones, not similar tones with the Duncan Solar pick ups. The KM pick ups also handle more mid range heavy tones better. I was a long time Duncan player until I decided to check out the Fluence stuff, but I made the switch, and won't go back. I've had my KM pick ups in the 7 string version for several months, and they are better than any wire wound pick ups I've owned. That said you don't truly get to see how good they sound until you are playing them yourself through your own rig, and settings. Cheers.
Honestly if you heard the difference in person you'd pay for the fishman replacement. Maybe not merrows but...

Well, I for once DID email the fishman support for when I was wiring up my guitar with Fishman Classics and I had a VEEERY weird wiring in mind back then. And Derek from Fishman was just SOO damn helpful! I might have mailed him like 5 times and he was alway friendly and told me the things I needed... soo...

This was a superb comparison! Did you notice that the “metal” (=distorted) tones also distorted your view of the pickups? I did. Your CLEAN tone test showed extraordinarily clear differences between the options. My opinion: always check your pickup mods with cleans.
As for what axe for a follow up, perhaps stick to the Epiphones and Harleys, to work budget side first?

I have the same guitar in black, really surprised that you say it keeps its tuning so well. Not sure if I have a badly set up one but mine is awful and goes out of tune all the time. Any suggestions on how I can stop that?

I think I actually preferred the stock pickups but to each his own. It might also be that I'm starting to get tired of hearing Fishman Fluence pickups cause my god, they're on everything nowadays.
Man, totally agree. The duncans were much warmer and their dirty tones were nicer. There's something about the fishmans being too clear that I don't quite enjoy.
Yes. I was an active pickup guy. I loved EMGs and thought they were all I wanted. But after some eye opening from a musician friend,I think both DiMarzio and Duncan pickups sound great and are better for harmonics.
I'm just not sold on Fishman Fluence pickups at all. They've taken over EMGs when it comes to distribution on new guitars but....I just don't think they sound that much better than EMGs,so I'm not a fan
I actually prefer EMGs over FF. It's not for everyone but at least they don't sound like "you can/should only play 'modern metal' on these." Fishmans kinda sound like djent whatever you do with them.

I think this is the most awesome video I seen rn cause solar guitars is my most favorite but when you put fishman fluence in a solar guitar I’ll definitely be like screaming so loud that this pickups are my favorite fishman is coming towards me already a huge fluence fan and I’m sure some people are getting tired of hearing it but idc fishman makes awesome pickups✌🏻😂👏🏼👏🏼

The Duncan Solar are based on the custom 5?! Man, now I can't even blame the pick-ups for not getting one of those Single Cuts. LOVE the custom 5!
There is just so much more definition in the Fishmans. That’s incredible. Really like the new sound. Oh and oiling the fretboard really made it pop. Much love from Tulsa. Love the new series and keep it going.

Oooo merrow fishmans in a solar. Surprisingly there are next to no videos for those. Ive been torn for a few months between the moderns and merrows for my hellraiser. This really helped that choice.

Taking a cookie break makes pots smaller? How did you solve that problem? I know you can get metric CTS pots to match import sizes but they don't come with the fluence gubbins
Actually great idea for a series as most guitarist have a honey moon phase and would tend to overlook the flaws of some guitars.

Enjoyed this video and format. Under high gain the merrow set definitely sounds better. For the cleans I feel the duncan solars sounded better. Especially in the neck. I also forgot how badass your single cut with the will adler set sounded.
Have you tried the Bare Knuckle Ragnarok pickups yet? I've had a Ragnarok fitted in the bridge position if my Jackson, and Fernandez sustainer in the neck, it sound massive!
Man if you're getting that wiring right you're actually pretty good at soldering. I was so relieved when I got my esquire wiring done right on my hb tele. Without using new wires lol.

Duncan solar sounds great with fresh strings
Question from a guy who had a tech install fishman moderns - if I want to change one fishman to another, can I do that without soldering? Is it just as simple as unplugging the wires from the back of the pup and plugging in the new one?
Yep! Once you have the wiring all set up, they're solderless plug and play, just like EMGs :)

I removed the bungs on my fluence set so i could direct mount. I think fishman put a lot of thought into this design so I think they are supposed to be removable.
Came on here to check out the KM pups and this guy is playing heavy sotw 😭😵💫😂
I emailed fishman and they sent me all the diagrams with no question for installing the Will Adler set. But in the future the Merrows use the open core wiring guides.
