Sweet man gonna be fun to follow. I had an issue with a base being too long on my 300WM. The front of the overhang was hitting the bell of my scope. So I cut off the overhang with a cutting wheel. Colored the silver black with a sharpie and it worked perfectly. Where you have extra space in the front and back I would get out the hacksaw and trim it up. More clearance
I had to do the same thing on my 6.5 and 308 Compasses. The only downside I see that SOME may have is the 1:12 twist. Fine for 168, but gets sketchy with the heavier pills. I don't load heavier than 168 in 308 so it is fine with me. The 6.5 has an ideal 1:8. The trigger was the only issue, it is super clean but a tad heavy after the recall. I did a little trigger job on both of mine, they are awesome!! Tack drivers much like Johnny's Reloading Bench.
I did take my Dremel and trim the back of the base a little. It was just a little to close for comfort. I think it should be okay now. I'll just have to keep an eye on it.
I have to say I love my Thompson compass .223, 308 rifles they are tack drivers and I can’t believe how well they shoot for the money. I’m sure you will enjoy it brother. Can’t wait to see the results at the range.
Great video. I like the flashlight trick. Have to see if I can find out how that’s done. I enjoy watching budget builds. Shows that with a little time and effort with the correct handload these inexpensive rifles can go long almost as good as a $5k rifle.
Great video as always. Got a Compass in 243 and gonna see how the Sierra 90gr gamechangers are going to do..if the 243 works out....I may grab a 308 before sale ends at Kentucky gun. Look forward to how she shoots
After I finish my axis heavy barrel 6.5 series, I'm going to do a series on this rifle in 22-250. That's a smokin' deal from KGC. With a 1-12 twist I'm thinking somewhere in the 60-65gr projectiles will work best. Looking forward to watching yours.
I like your homemade barrel level. After watching Johnny's 6.5 creed videos in the compass, I went and bought one in 7mm-08. Unfortunately I was only able to get about 1- 1/2" groups with it. Hope yours turns out to be a tack driver. Good luck with your new rifle look forward to watching your future videos with it.
Just got a TC Compass .223 about a month ago. So far I really like it. Put an old Weaver 4x scope on it and so far I'm happy with it. What's funny is I kinda bought it as a reload platform. Seems to like 62 gr Hornadys and CFE223
Cool project Josh, the series on the muzzle devices by JRB has made me a believer. I doubt I'll buy another rifle without being threaded. Looking forward to it man. Nathan
The thing about most muzzle devices are, the more expensive one's you are paying for R&D. Most cheaper ones are just copies of proven designs and you are just paying for the machining of the product.
I had a buddy's Remington 22-250 for a while, forget the model, not a 700 but came from WalMart 7?? something. I really liked it. It had the trigger like an accutrigger. Cheap rifle and was as shooter with factory ammo.
I cant wait to see just what you get out of that rifle. I'm going down to sportsmans tomorrow to go look at one after you told me about the one at Kentuckygunco and it'll end up being just shy of 225 after rebate so basically the same price lol
@@243Outdoors I was thinking about getting a 308 since I'm planning on casting for 300bo soon so it would be nice to keep the bullet kinda the same for a couple rifles and plus after seeing eagle eye shoot 500 yards with a 300bo got me all excited to get the pistol I'm building finished lol
I know you did your own trigger job but do yourself a favor and buy an M*carbo trigger kit it comes with all three Springs plus a bench rest spring. I have the hunting spring in my .243 Compass right now and it is smooth as butter and passes the drop test with flying colors. I know you like to shoot long range this trigger will definitely help🔘👊😎🇺🇸
Correct me if im wrong, I've never seen the torch method before, even though the rifle is dead level, how can you tell by eye that the retical is perfectly straight? Could it be your eye is off and the level is right? Hope the new gun perfoms well, enjoyed the 6.5 predator vids. I have one in 223 and it does a good job. Just dropped it into a boyds pro varmint, needed a little cnc work on the stock to make it fit.
Hey, I’m a new subscriber and I’m really liking your videos. I love the flashlight trick. Can you do a video on your muzzle rifle level, that looks like a great way to go!
I watched with great interest your scope leveling method. It seems to me the action must be leveled first and then begin the scope leveling process. How do you insure your action is level? What are your steps? Thanks for your time and I await your reply.
Now if this thing shoots . You should try some cast bullets. The .308 tends to shoot cast very well. I have shot the smallest groups of my life with a .308 with 168 nos comp. I have shot many sub moa with cast also. Good luck have fun and be safe.
A good brake in is a good thing for cast and a vary clean bore. zero copper. There are a lot of thing that go into cast. Lead mix and dia .001 to .002 over bore dia just a few thoughts.
I personally would have cut the ends off of that base... I did it on my BA stealth 338 it had the big cantilever scope base I guess for night vision?? other reviews had them come lose possible because of extra weight ?? ..with a Steiner sitting on it nobody cares LOL
Why not get one in 6.5 to compare to your Ruger predator??? I've seen plenty of these guns struggle to do much better than 1 MOA even with HAND LOADS with 6.5 which is an inherently more precise round than .308 is even at 100 yards.
@@txsharpshooter85 For starters, 6.5mm is 0.04 cal smaller and is smaller in overall group size just by difference in BULLET size if you're trying to split hairs with me... On top of THAT even in LIGHT wind at 100 yards it drifts much less than 308 making the groups even smaller...

@Sweet Tea. Yeah I would of prefered a 10 twist but this 12 will do.

I've got quite a bit of time off toward the end of the month and plan on putting the rounds down range with it.
My compass in 65 is awesome... the Mcarbo trigger is a great upgrade if you want a better trigger
My new favorite channel. Can’t wait to see how she shoots.
I just subbed a couple weeks ago found him through watching another guy that posts on the reloading network ....pretty good info
Forget the 22-250 and get a 243. Better bullet all around. Thanks a lot friend. SC. Navy vet
I bought some Atlas development group brass for my 308 and 338 made in Elizabethtown KY 100 pieces of each working on fire forming. Stuff looks great

This video has a little more detail on the flashlight trick. You are just using a plumb bob to align it. ruclips.net/video/VDnkrNsiUz0/видео.htmlm41s

I thought that was interesting too👍👍🇺🇸🤓

I would suggest putting on a Surefire ProComp 762 muzzle break. Seems to help with barrel harmonics.

Send it back. 1 MOA guarantee. I have been reading a few reviews where they replaced it.
@@243Outdoors I considered sending it back but sold it instead.
Awesome trick with leveling the scope brother! Ive been using a laser level but at a fixed 16x that doesn't work to well haha. Thanks for the tip!
I'm anxious to get this 20x out and give it a try. Just looking through the windows, It seems good to me.

My tikka223rem is shooting good with cfe 223 and 52gr eld's
That’s really cool I’m looking forward to see how far your going to shoot it
I hope to get it out tomorrow.
Nice new rifle and setup Josh. Congrats👍🏻🇺🇸
Thanks GB44. We shall see if I can make this rifle dance.
Looking forward to it. My hunting pal loves his T/C.
I think a lot of people will be adding a T/C to their collection this year.

Killer video! Nice little rifle!
Might have a new caliber in my future. Thanks Josh!
Awesome, they have just about every caliber for the same price. You don't see that everyday.
If you get a 22-250 id recommend a model 700 adl varmit, mine will shoot a 1/4 moa and they are budget friendly

Learn stuff all the time on this channel like the flashlight hack...who knew! From all the vids I have seen on the T/C Compass, it looks legit!
I also learn a ton on RUclips. I hate to think about how many hours a week I watch.

As far as leveling the action, I just go by the rail. It "should" be level with the action. In my case it's good enough.
Thanks for the education on mounting a scope. You'll be hitting 1 mile targets in no time👍
It can be done with a 308, and maybe someday, I'll give it a try. I'll need more than the 20 MOA base to do it.
Following this series as i have the same rifle also purchased from kygunco.
