You’re the man! You don’t make people feel stupid about having a “cheap rifle” cuz we can’t afford $2,000 rifles and go on safari hunts for zebra. Good ole country boy right here! You’re a good man! I love our tc compass
I rather have a cheap rifle that hits where I an aiming, then an expensive one that only does the same thing.
5 cheap rifles for 1 expensive rifle.
My buddy dragged his $1,000 rifle out when I shot my 308 compass and he didn't have much to say because I placed 5 shots inside a nickel at 100 yards and he was filling up pie plates , awesome guns , can't complain.
The Compass, more specifically the second generation Compass II, is a very underrated and under appreciated rifle. I recently picked up a lightly used one in 6.5cm with a scope for very little money. It’s no beauty queen but it’s accurate and it has features that I really appreciate, especially for a budget rifle. It has a 3-position safety and a rotary magazine (which presents the cartridge for better/more reliable feeding), plus a threaded muzzle. I also appreciate the fact that T/C actually took the time to use thread locker on their scope base screws and that they’re torx head, not allen or slotted. The action screws were actually tight too. I’ve purchased Ruger Americans that had loose screws (I always take new rifles apart and rebuild using appropriate torque specs). This seems to be a problem on budget rifles, but T/C got it right from factory so this would have been one I could’ve skipped all that.
I love my 6.5 compass 2. I put a 20moa base and a Bushnell elite tactical 4-25 scope. With a bipod attached its a heavy pig but it shoots so smooth.
30-06 is such a versatile cartridge, my favorite! 180gr seems to fly the best in my budget, highly accurate bolt guns. Barnes Vortex 180gr make a budget gun into a precision tack driver.
🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲
I have a 308 and I notice that after about 3 shots the barrel has heated up enough to move the barrel. letting it cool puts it right back where it was. It is a great rifle and I use it often.
👍👍
Good video. Love this channel. I think the Thompson is the best of the "entry" or "budget" rifles. I got the Compass in 308 with the Vortex scope for $289. The bolt is smooth and the accuracy is excellent.
Nice. It is a good one. Thanks for watching Keith!
I got one in 308 and accuracy is horrible.
I start by levelling the reticle, then bore or laser sight at 100 yds... I'm dialled in by 3 rounds, sir
👍👍
Will share a trick I saw someone else mention, and works great. Basically a 1-shot zero process. Aim @ bullseye, take the 1st shot, then line up scope to your original bullseye Point of Aim again, and without moving the gun (if possible), adjust the turrets so that the reticle is now on your 1st Point of Impact. This moves your point of aim to be exactly where your point of impact was. Your next shot should be a point of aim and point of impact on the bullseye (or at least really close). No "walking it in". Saves money on ammo, which we can all use these days.
WTW you might know this but if it is 1/4" for 1 click at 100 yards so it takes 2 clicks at 50 yards for 1/4" and 4 clicks at 25 yards for 1/4 maybe this will help you if not may help someone else. Have fun shooting, Sighting in is my favorite thing about shooting !
So 1 click at 200 yards would be 1/2" 🎯
Yup
My T/C dimension and my compass both have a recall on them. Check on yours. SC Navy vet.
The .06 I use is a Remington Woodsman model 740, with a Weaver 4x scope. They both date to the 1950's. I have heard most of my life that the pair are junk. The scope is prone to "fogging", and the rifle is prone to jamming. I take care of them both and they have put a couple of tons of mule deer venison in my freezer. I'm going for more on Oct. 9. I let you know how we do.
Nice!
I picked up a Compass a while back in .308. I like it.
I like this one
Can't beat it for the money 💰
I just ordered one cannot wait to check it out
Does it accept extended 10 rounder mags ?
@@shanehall5659 5 round mag
I use a Bushnell scope sighting kit. Its right in the money. Sometime you fine tune ut for the ammo you use. Most of the shots placed are in the center, or close enough to make minimal adjustments.
Love sighting in and shooting my deer rifles. Just did mine last weekend. Federal fusion has proven to be the best load for my 270 and 308. Performs outstanding as well
🦌🦌🦌
My Compass in .270 shoots 130 grain Remington Core Lokt the best, followed by Federal Fusion 130 grain. Thanks for sharing. Doesn't shoot Winchester ammo well at all.
Was so impressed with the first one. Bought all the grands a 6.5 and they are all sub MOA with Federal Premium ammo! Great gun for the price!
Awesome! I agree
The marines sight in at 25 yards , It's good out to 300 yards . I still use that on all my rifles .
Ooh rah! I’ve done the same thing for over 20 years now! Semper Fi
@@michaellane1661 Semper Fi !!!
It works with the 270 win. for hunting purposes 👍
@@jimmybare3026 I wished he would make a video using that method and move out 25 yards at a time to 300 yards with 270,006,300 win mag.
OOOOOOORAH, Semper Fi 1000 inch ... 300 yard BZO.. good starting point... bold DOPE changes... sight alignment sight picture...
I remember seeing some shooters tapping on the turrets after adjustment but before shooting to make sure it moved.
I still do it to make sure it does what it's suppose to do regardless of scope brand. Never done me wrong.
I enjoy your videos and have watched you sight in several rifles. This is something I learned that has saved me a lot of ammo. If your scope is 1/4 moa you need to move scope 4 clicks per inch. But at 50 yes you will need to move 8 clicks per inch at 25 yes 16 clicked per inch. It works.
Yup. Why i moved the scope 16 clicks for the 2nd 100 yard shot
I bought a brand new one for about 600 bucks a few years ago, I love it! Super excited to see you review it!
I dig it
@@WHOTEEWHO wow, you actually replied. I find I do better myself with the 150 gr extreme points with it. But my scope is pretty cheap too so IDK if that matters lol
@@spikedwk I reply to every comment! Appreciate you watching bigtime
@@WHOTEEWHO I appreciate your videos, keep on keeping on man.

I am currently siting a 30/06 Browning. It shows the same problem. So i will check my bases and more than likely all screws. Good vid. good shooting.
Thanks for watching Wade
@ 08:25 mins of the video. There's a piece of grass stuck between the stock and the barrel. That is enough to mess up the barrel harmonics and throw the shots off, I have the exact same rifle and the barrel is free floated for accuracy.
Thanks for your review and sighting in of the T/C Compass. This is one of the best values in bolt action rifles, imho. Mine is a 6.5 Creedmoor.
I agree. Thanks for watching Rich
ay man absolutely loved this video, love seeing people sighting in and reviewing its cool to see people’s process while sighting guns in. anyways those carbon steel barrels on the compass are very thin, so you lost a lot of accuracy shooting more than 3 rounds in a 2 min time window. not all of these stray rounds are shooter error.
I have one that belongs to a friend of mine. It exploded *broke bolt, blew the magazine and attaching hardware out of the stock. This happened with a new Remington 22-250 round right out of the box. Rifle was sent back to T./C for warranty. They denied the claim said it was caused by defective ammo, however on examining the case it appears to have had very excessive headspace or a partial out of battery firing. If you own one of these please be careful and check out frequently. Needless to say we do not have any good things to say about T/C 's warranty or the firearm !
Yikes
I enjoy your channel.Everytime i see you shoot a different gun,i go buy one like it.
Always appreciate you watching Michael!!!
Much easier to move the reticles to where the actual hit is. Holding the rifle in the same place it was when you shot. Use the adjustment knobs for micro adjustments.
That's best done with a bench rest. You can do it just with a bipod, but it's a lot harder as you have to stay very still as you move the turrets. But yeah that's how I zero my rifles as well. It saves on ammo and more importantly it keeps the barrel from heating up too much which causes the groups to shift a bit (and sometimes open up).
Greatday whoteewho you have come along ways in just four years lol you were pretty green here still lol i love it..
Thanks for watching
Remember 1/4 MOA per click is 2 clicks per half inch and 100 yards. Multiply that by 4 at 25 yards. I would multiply that by 2 again for 10 yards. That would be between 12-16 clicks to move an inch at 10 yards. I love my Spot On app and BDC that came with my Prostaff.
That rifle is very accurate for a light hunting rifle. and you shoot very good , good video
I like it!
Got one in .270 with a Vortex 6-18. It shoots under MOA with Core Lokt and Fusion ammo. Every gun likes different ammo so your experience may not be the same.
Nice
Which grain does your 270 compass like?
@@liprippinbass1630 I have just shot 130 grain for groups. I also added a muzzle break and about a pound of plumber's putty in a bag in the butt of the stock to reduce recoil.
that last shot was super satisfying, great job man
🙏🙏🙏 thanks for watching!

Got that rifle for my sons a few years ago; I was overly pleased. Thanks for the confirmation!
I would love to get one as a gift!
Good review. I have the T/C Compass in 6.5 Creedmoor and have been very pleased.
Been good to me
I've been jonesing to whitetail hunt bigtime. Can't wait until the season get rollin. I'll be packing my 6.5 Grendel 18" AR for my first trip, and break out my .308 700 for the others. Good luck to you and your buddy this season. That T/C should treat him right.
Me too 🦌🦌🦌
All my rifles, I always sight them in two inches high at a hundred.
👍👍
I like the way you think Steven. I do pretty much the same thing.
You only need to do that if you have a reticle that doesn't give you additional holding points.
So do I. Good from 25-350
Even the .22s?
You should test out the 2506!!! Love the vids!!!
Just bought a 2506. On the way!
I got one in 6.5 creedmor and I love it!
Awesome
I’ve got a couple TC rifles n they all shoot great with most ammo !!
Same
I've been using a Compass in 22-250 for coyotes. I've had it 3 seasons now. It shoots all ammo well, just some better. I put in an M CARBO trigger kit and it puts three almost in the same hole now. Never an issue with this thing.
Thanks for sharing and keep em coming!!👍👍
Nice! Thanks for watching Randy
I done the same trigger spring kit from them. It was a world of difference after. I can punch all 3 holes touching now at 100 yards with my compass in 6.5
I broke my TC 6.5CM in just like I benchrest rifles. I did nothing to it. It will shoot 5 shots in a nickel at 100 yds all day long. At 200 yds it jumps to a quarter. Half-dollar at 300 yds. LOVE IT!
Looking good WHO-TEE-WHO.
Hey Joe!
Nice to have space between the scope and the bolt action..
Hey Raptor
I picked up this same rifle in march i put on a Nikon buckmaster sighted it in last week shoots great 100 yards hitting 5 inch target
Awesome
Smith n Wesson put all of the Thompson center stuff in mothballs and up for sale, I know of at least one huge warehouse in Missouri stuffed full of new guns a sad thing !!!
I have 3 of them; 5.56, .308, and .300WM :D They run pretty damn good. They could used a thicker barrel for a better shoulder and barrel threading, but they work OK for the $$$. Very accurate too.
💥💥💥👍👍
Would love to hear your thoughts on this rifle in .270. Seems they are hard to find.
Have the same rifle in 6.5 Creedmoor. Same scope too. Its a nice rifle, accurate for sure.
Awesome
Awesome video. What Nikon scope was that?
Great reviews of these firearms, very detailed, right down to the trigger pull and the keychain!!!
Nice rifle so would love to see the TC performance 308 precision how about it!
That bolt sounds like a thing of beauty. Especially next to those Remington 770s you occasionally use!
😆😆😆
Love these videos, keep it up
Thanks for watching Lego!
@@WHOTEEWHO Np
Great video, I like that rifle!!!
I think I got a lemon, is the barrel supposed to be flush at the end of the stock ? Mine has a 1/4" gap
Not supposed to be flush. Stock should not touch barrel
@@WHOTEEWHO thank you for the reply bud I had called Smith and Wesson and they told me it wasn't normal 🙃 this is my first free floating barrel so I had to ask
I got a Nikon Monarch 3 4/16 X 50 on my 243. It's a really awesome scope!
🖖🏻🇫🇷😎🇫🇷😎🇫🇷🖖🏻
Well now that was a interesting video I really like that Thompson compass and of course you can't go wrong with a 30-06. I wouldn't mind having that exact same setup I know for sure that would be a good deer getter.
🦌🦌🦌
The safety is the same thing as my Ruger Mark II all weather. I like that kind of safety on my rifle 🤔
Really dig Thompson Center rifles. Great video !
Hearing Remington getting chopped up yesterday really bums me out. A piece of my youth dies with Remington. Your thoughts Who Tee Who ?
Oh i don't get caught up in brand names. If it shoots bullets good with me. I also don't watch the news 😆😆😆
The forestock looks very ergonomic, similar to my Supersport shotgun.
I like it
I am a sucker for pawn shop guns, I am always finding good deals. A local one had a TC Compass .300 win Mag that I almost bought but I let it go. I used to never would stray away from Ruger Americans or the Savage Axis but after rescuing a Mossberg Patriot Predator from a pawn shop and liking it, I am gonna give a TC Compass a try, if I see another one for sale.
I enjoy the intricacy of sighting in the weapon thanks for the video WTW
Hey A Velez!
Good shooting WHO_TEE_WHO. You can't beat the T/C (Smith & Wesson) rifles. I recently got the new Compass II in a 308. Academy had them on sale for $229.00, Smith and Wesson had a $50 rebate, and I had a $50 Academy Gift card so my net cost was $129.00.
The Compass II has the upgraded trigger which has a crisp break at about 3.5 lbs and they improved the forend on the stock to ensure the barrel remains in a free-floating position. It took 3 rounds to zero it in with Winchester hunting ammo and shot sub-MOA group without Match Grade ammo. Throw in the threaded barrel and a lifetime warranty by Smith and Wesson and a Sub-MOA Guarantee it's hard to find any rifle budget or otherwise with the value and performance of a T/C rifle. Sure there are better looking, fitting, design, and features, in much higher priced rifles but unless you are looking for a long-range precision shooting rifle most any rifle that shoots sub-moa at 100 yards is precise enough for most all ethical hunting needs. Thanks again, for the Videos Whotee. Today is "A Cold day in South Texas; A day the Good Lord hath made, Let's be glad and Rejoice in it." God Bless you and your family. .
Thompson center make some good guns I have a 50 Cal muzzleloader renegade made by Thompson center and it’s a really good gun
👍👍
Nice shooting! Yeet!
Yeet!
Awesome video. 👏👏👏 nice rifle who tee who
Thanks Rocha. I like the compass
Ive got 4 deer a 6 hogs with mines so far with mines it do exactly what it supposed to
I got a T/C Compass 6.5 Creedmoor last year for $300 if I remember right. Great rifle for the money. It's a tack driver. Tell your buddy if he wants to make the trigger better look at a MCARBO spring kit for it. Makes it a 2-3 pound crisp trigger with no slack or creep. Feels like a $1000 rifle.
👍👍
Good shooting!!

Nice shootin. Man if i was close by i could have my rifles sighted by Who-tee-who and Mr.Paul. It would be cool. Id just be like ya its sighted in look at the videos. Who-tee-who

Try sighting in at 25 yards then shoot at 100,200,300 yards . At 300 you have to hold a little high .
👍👍 rather know exactly where it is going to hit than guess and be a bit off
@@WHOTEEWHO Marines don't miss , a rifle sighted at 25 yards will hit anything out to 300 yards . It's always worked for me . No guessing to it .
Not all calibers fly the same
@@WHOTEEWHO That's correct they make 25 yard targets for different calibers .
How can one tell the difference between the gen 1 VS the gen 2 models? Are their variations in model numbers to distinguish between the two? Or do you actually only know by testing the trigger pull?
I have no idea
I can keep 5 shot groups within a nickel at 100 yards with mine.
100 yards , not 200
What kind of scope would I use?I got a Axeon 4-12x40 on it now.the one I got on it good enough?
Good walk brother. Used to live drilling tacs with my rem 700 308. Need to sight my 30-30 BL in again.
Thanks for watching!
Damn accurate... Does the stock feel as cheap as a Savage axis stock does?
I have never held a savage axis, but this one felt good
It is hollow, and loosely filled with bits of foam. If you pack it with a dense foam, it feels good.
Sadly the Compass is no longer available unless it's a used gun. I wanted to get one. But missed the opportunity. So. Now I own a Savage Axis-II, in 6.5 Creedmore.
Nice shooting as usual 🎯
Hey Rob!
Nice shooting.
👍👍💥💥💥
What would you recommend more the TC Compass or the CVA Cascade and why? I’m looking to get a new deer rifle. Thanks!
CVA Cascade is an upgrade from the Compass for sure, but not really a fair comparison. The CVA costs twice as much as the Compass.
WHO_TEE_WHO I gotcha! How would the Cascade compare to the Ruger American Predator?
Same thing. Ruger American is a base model and cheap. CVA Cascade costs a bit more than the Ruger, but the CVA is a better rifle.
Does it say Smith and Wesson on the side in front of the chamber?
Yup
Both of mine do (.243W .308W) and they both shoot moa
That's a nice gun. It depends on what kind of reticle my scope has that determines what I zero it for. If I'm sighting in a gun with a BDC reticle I zero it at 100yds, but if it is a duplex reticle I have it about 2 1/2" high at 100yds.
👍👍
Nice WTW. Can't get on the live vids this week, I'm on holidays with the family! Better be a good boy!!! When using a vice or such and you know it was definitely a good pull, I just put the crosshairs back on that hole then adjust your scope to centre or wherever you want to set it and go again. You should be bang on if you're confident you're got it right. I know your making a vid so you just get it happening. I take my time if you want it dead on. Nice looking rifle. Cheers.👍
Cheers!
Should I go with a 350 legand or 450 bushmaster for whitetails
450bm
Judging by your groups at 10 yd., it seems likely that your first shot was going to be 10 in. left at 100 yd. I like to bring the scope into bore alignment first with the naked eye, looking through the barrel at a distant point and adjust the scope accordingly. Even if done first at 10 yd., it can save even more time to bring u on target at 100 yd.
👍👍
Such a sweet rig, thanks 👍🏻🙏👍🏻🙏
Hey Brian
Do you know how to dial the cross hairs to the POI? I zero in 3 shots most of the time.
Yup
Is it fluted?
Smith &Wesson is the parent company. My one advice would be to change the rings and bases. Use either the NIKON or WARNE, steel rings... I would probably change the bases while you are at it. Use the WARNE steel bases. Or another really good solid base and ring setup. Use DMZ GAME REAPER, or of course the reliable Dual Dovetail Leupold base and ring set. All of which are very soiled and will not shift, or break under recoil like what is on it now. Especially if you at some point use a heavy grain round in that caliber.
Nah. I have $10 walmart rings on a lot of my 1,000 yard rifles. Not kidding. I like warne, but can't afford em on everything
Hey if they work for you...lol.. until they fail... about the time that trophy buck of a lifetime walks in... and you think to yourself...ummm... they are a very well made little rifle. By next season a splurge to a Boyd's stock and bedding job will result in a great improvement for a very affordable price overall. You will also find that Browning is now the parent company for Winchester and producing a beautiful product. My understanding is Nikon has gotten out of the scope business aswell. Keep up the good work.
Don't need a $2,000 rifle to have something good. If a budget rifle shoots good, right on.
Way I did it, during end of Johnson administration, got 03-A3 barrelled action, got Fajan stock, had to replace follower, for just under $200, got something just as good as any factory rifle. Hooked on .30-06 from M1Garand in the Army.
I like to do 3 shot group before doing sight adjustment.
TRAIL Boss/110 grain carbine bullets, plinking and introducing shooter new to centerfire rifle (reduced recoil). 220 grain softs, any Alaska dangerous game. If it were still legal in Africa, 220 grain solids, brain shot on elephants. If Isla Sorna were real, same load on T rex. This is one versatile cartridge. Your budget rifle good for anything in North America.
I picked one up in 300 win. mag., last year. I put 4 in the freezer, with it. This is a very nice shooting gun. The only thing I didn't like about it, is the stock is loosely filled with thin foam cut outs shaped like the butt of the stock. I cut some thick foam and packed it, so that is wouldn't crack so easily, if it's dropped.
Awesome
Great video nice work
Thanks for watching Michael!
Love those Targets. You should design some just like that but a Shoot-n-See material and call them WTW Sight-In Targets.
😆😆😆👍👍
Awsome rifel . Looks like groups are pretty good from a warm barrel. Must hunting shot fired from a cold boar shot.
Nice one Who Tee ...
Hey Rich!
I zero mine at 700 yards but then again I am shooting in the desert and at 1300 yard ranges
That scope blows, I know having to use inexpensive equipment, I have done so. Now I use more mid grade equipment when it comes to glass. I spend 400 to 500 on glass.
