Love my laser bore sighter...I have a Wheeler Engineering magnetic sighter that sits on the muzzle of any caliber. Caldwell lead sleds and shooting bags are the best!
T/C has all ways had good rifles, from their Muzzle Loaders, rifle cal. single shot pistols and rifles. IMO cannot be beat for the price. Have a blessed day.
@@Krobear A Bushnell that was $30 something I believe. It has the adjustable plastic tips that center it in the barrel. It's always worked pretty well for me.
That's a nice rifle. I've never shot a 300 Win Mag. I built a 7mm Rem Mag on a Mauser action and that's about as close as I've got to a magnum rifle. I am a T/C fan, but all of mine are Contender pistols and one Encore Pro hunter.
This is going to be a fun video. I bought the T/C Compass (original not the compass II) in .308 and used it for whitetail this year and harvested a nice broken 10 point using cheap 150gr PPU soft points.
300winmag is awesome. I have a remington in .300winmag. Im saving up to get a weatherby weathermark in either 300 weatherby mag or 340 weatherby mag next 😊
With bolt actions to start sighting it in, put it in your lead sled take the bolt out at about 25 yards distance look through the barrel and have target dead center. Do not move gun now look through scope as to where it is aiming. Now adjust scope while looking through the scope to where target in barrel view in centered. Now go to 100 yards and shoot 1 shot holding the scope dead center of target. If it is not where bullet hit, put cross hairs center again and now adjust scope over to where the last bullet hit. So not when you shoot it should be center and you saved a ton in ammo. Thanks for your videos
I love the TC Compass with th threaded barrel, 5r rifling, and a smooth bolt. A $20 MCarbo trigger kit and if you feel froggy a boyds stock...excellent stuff
One minute you’re ready to toss the gun. Then you love it! Amazing what a couple of good rounds and fixing a loose scope will do! Nice video. Glad it was an easy (if expensive) fix
300 WM is one of the most versatile cartridges ever for the handloader. I've loaded everything from 100 grain HP bullets designed for the 30 Carbine with a whiff of powder that recoiled like a 22 LR, up to 210 grain high-BC needles that reached out to the next zip code accurately, but whacked the shoulder pretty hard. My all-around is a quality 180 grain boattail bullet near book max. Great for game big or small, and carries out to any reasonable range (1000 yards is within reason).
You did a great job getting It cited in. I had the same thing happen to me with my browning 300 win mag with the same scope. Can't wait for your next video
I've got to give it to you. I love the fact that you are "real'. You show your mistakes, your screw ups. your missed shots, I don't believe that you are cutting any of that out. That's why I really enjoy your videos. It's as though that's what any of us would be doing. When are you going to show us the mile target shooting? You put it out there, we want to see you shooting one mile with the TC 300 WM. Don't change anything!
Hey man. Enjoy your videos. Would like to save you some money sighting in. First always locktite your base ,don't rely on the factory install. Second , once you fire that first bore sighted shot. Then put your crosshairs right on the bullseye and adjust your crosshairs to the bullet hole you just fired. As long as you can hold the rifle still while adjusting ,the next shot should be on target. Of course the rifle has to like the ammo ,or you will be chasing bullet strikes. Best to do 3 shot groups after first adjustment. I have shot alot of ammo in my 70yrs. Keep up the great work. My best to you and your family.
300 win mag is a favorite of mine for long range. I shoot the 208gr amax, it has a really good BC and shoots under 1" groups in mine. Around 69gr of IMR 4831 gets me almost 2900 fps
I have a Compass in .243. Believe it or not, very accurate! Tried it out because I am familiar with the S&W/Thompson Center thing. I knew S&W acquired TC for their barrel making expertise and my Contender and 3 barrels from the 1980s are tack frickin drivers!!! 400 yard 12” steel is routinely boring. But my scope is a VX1 LR Duplex (2 hold over dots). So I’ll stay to 500 or less. Pencil thin barrel requires a little rest after 5 rounds but still!
You need to do a 177 air rifle challenge. Shoot tomatoes. It is cheap and very much fun with the different pellets you can get. Your son would love to do it with you
Another way to bore sight is remove the bolt from your rifle and center the bore on the bullseye, then move your scope adjustments accordingly to center your scope on the bullseye making sure your rifle does not move and is steadily rested in your sled. That is an old timer's method and I have used it and it works.
Blue Loctite my friend. I use it on most threaded fasteners. Unless you like frustration and wasting money. Heck, even joe biden approves of screws not coming loose! He does not approve of you owning a firearm or steps to board a jet.
I have the same rifle with a simple Nikon buckmaster 4x12BDC. I also put a nice brake on it. It hates expensive ammo. I found that it loves federal non typical whitetail 180gr. 1 MOA all day long as long as I shoot that ammo…
Glad you found the problem.and got it sighted in. I had the same thing happen to me last fall with a scope mount screw that had worked its way loose. Definitely aggravating for sure.
I never used Blue Loctite in the past but I do now. When I zero, I just start at 25y & see where I'm at on a big piece of paper & start working backwards. Those led sleds are like cheating lol. Good cheap rifle also. I'm definitely getting one but my 16" Ghost 300bo loves 110g A-Max. It drives nails at 100y to 150y.
You can shoot 50 bmg for less than 3.60 a round!! Love the vids!! I had issues with my ruger mark iv rail staying on even after loctiting. Use a bit of teflon tape for consistent snugness
I’m glad your here to shoot normal caliber guns, for one we can’t afford to shoot so it’s good to watch you, and second a lot of the bigger channels just shoot stuff with 50 caliber guns. The 50 don’t impress me it’s a useless gun, cool yes but still it has no practical use.
I’ll give you a little bit of cheap and helpful advice. From now on ALWAYS use a Inch pound torque wrench and BLUE LOCKTITE on ALL Bases & Rings EVERYTIME. This will save you lots of Money, time & Headaches. I learned that the hard way. If you get a Rifle with premounted bases, take them and use the Torque wrench and Blue LOCKTITE to mount it yourself. You’ll be glad you did.
If you are shooting to that distance, you shoot reloads with a nice slow powder. I love RL26 for that job and Berger bullets, check out the 180 to 200 area
TC claims MOA to sub MOA out of box and mine in .223/5.56 holds to that even with surplus 5.56. BTW WTW, don’t feel bad on that scope. Same thing happened to me when a friend offered his Springfield 30.06 he had put a scope on for a hunt. I’d used it with iron sites and knew it could be acc. Took to range and half a box later was still all over the place except the bull. Took in to bench site and found it was only screwed in at front mount the rear bounced at every shot. At least it only coast me 10 rounds.
I understand completely I've ran 150 rounds of 17hmr thru my savage and I'm still not sighted in at 100yrs the first time I couldn't spot my hit's so I said screw and went and bought a thousand dollar scope for it the second time out it was blowing 25mph waist of a trip and ammo the third time I ran out of the 17grain stuff I wanted it sighted in with.
Love your never give up attitude! I'm upset you got it sighted in though, as I would have been waiting in the trash bin for it to land on my lap!🤣🤣🤣 Catch you next vid!!!

There's a method for site in a rifle with a scope you use two or three bullets to do it Larry potterfield from Midway USA has a video on how to do it I think that the video is on RUclips
I just did this same thing with my ruger american 6.5 CM. I burned through 2 boxes of expensive rounds trying to sight in and found out my scope mounts loosened up! Got two more boxes of ammo and some new rings! Ready for round 2 $150 later!! 🙄
I put my TC Compass 300WM in a Boyd's Pro Varmint stock. Best I could do was 3 inch groups with handloads from a Lead Sled. Factory ammo was worse. Decided I would glass bed it to see if it would help. When I took the barrel and action out yesterday, I immediately saw a crack behind the recoil lug and the recoil lug is loose! They come pressed and glued-in tight from the Boyd's factory! The recoil has broken the cross section behind the recoil lug which explains why the magazine was so hard to remove as well. Boyd's only has a 90 day warranty so this stock is garbage! Broke after 40 rounds and 4 months. Will try the factory stock some more but my first shots with it were not good. That's why I got froggy and tried the Boyd's. Really disappointed with Boyd's stocks and tentative about the Compass.
Brother I've been there... don't let it put a bad taste in your mouth for T/C compass. I have the same one in 300 win mag and it's a great shooter. I put a boyd's stock and a muzzle break on it and love it.
Hi, WTW. Sorry you had so much trouble. On that 3rd shot you moved the screw on the led sled. That is why the 3rd shot went low. If you are shooting a group, don't move anything. Check a couple of things. Get a carpenter's level and make sure the table is level. Get some shims so that the rifle can't tilt right or left at the butt holder. If possible, for when you can't use the butt shims, attach a bubble level to the scope, and get in the habit of holding the rifle so the bubble is level. I could see a little stress in you this time, so the video wasn't so fun. But you are getting better at all that stuff, so be patient. When you are getting ready to try 1,000 yards, set up some intermediate shots. Remember, a 300 Winmag will drop over 384 inches at 1,000 yards. Holy Cow. So try a shot where you can see the hits at 300, 500, and 750 yards to get a handle on how well your gun and ammo is functioning at longer ranges. If you are serious, get the scope zeroed at 300 yards on a range where you can see the hits. You could make a 4x8 foot plywood target to help you get visible shots at larger distances. I am rooting for you! Thanks for sharing! Stay healthy!
your gonna have to start reloading to get the groups you want .factory loads will not shoot all the same in different rifles. keep giving all the zooms!
Anytime I’m setting a rifle I shoot a big piece of square cardboard at 100yds and adjust my scope to the POI and shoot again. That should put you close or dead on with a vice like that as long as you don’t move the rifle before you get it adjusted. Then another shot to confirm zero. It doesn’t matter if you’re even close on the first shot as long as you hit the cardboard and you know where your hitting. 3 rounds is all it takes, especially with ammo being the way it is now
I am curious about the elevation limit on your first day (with the scope). I had the exact situation with a Winchester Model 70 chambered in 300win-mag, with a 20moa rail mounting a Leupold VX6-HD CDL (blah blah blah)....I tried to bore site at 20 yards and hit my lowest elevation about 2” above my aiming point. That translated to completely missing the target at 100 yards. I was SO frustrated, Leupold didn’t send operating instructions with the scope. Like any dude, I hate asking for directions, but after many trips to the range and dumping a lot of money down range, I contacted Leupold. The CDS stands for custom dial system and I could use a provided Allen key to rotate my elevation to allow a further adjustment downward, to compensate for that 20moa rail. FINALLY I am at a dead zero at 100 yards...but I was also ready to throw that Model 70 in the trash!!!
Take bolt out look down barrel adjust to bullseye 20yds then dont move gun dial crosshairs to barrel view center have bore sighter doesnt work as well as this. Saves ammo.
Prices of ammo here in west virginia arent any better when you can find any at all. The wife and I have combed all of wv and southern ohio for ammo and have had zero luck. Same with reloading supplies.
I have one of those bore sights it worked amazing for a long time but after a while you have to adjust it with those tiny Allen screws but mine is probably 10 years old at this point but definitely worth the money I wouldn't ever have to shoot any rounds it would always be dead on
Why are you continually changing the BASE adjustments? It's the same as changing the scope adjustments to the rifle. You'd get better results faster, and with less ammo if you'd leave them alone after bore sighting to the target.
Buddy, I have said this many times. Take a shot after laser sighted. Wherever you hit, set the sight on where you aimed and adjust the elevation and windage to where the bullet hit the target. That should get you sighted. I would come out to you with my long guns to show you what I mean. I live in North Carolina.
Hey Nikon spot on app is free and you input the Nikon scope and caliber information and you can get the ballistics including a ballistic table so you can see where to sight the bore site laser at close range and then be on paper at 100yd and where you will be at different distances out to 2500yd ...drop and windage. My bore sighter works at 50yds so using that as point of reference I look where I should be to be on paper at my Zero distance. 👍
The only thing I don’t like about those rifles are the bolt handle and the front of the stock. Had one in .243 took a hog out with it. For a budget hunting rifle all I can say it’s pretty good.
Great choice my man. What happened to the other 300win you had thought u had that custom Remington. 🤔 as 300 win mag for 1 mile do able. Look into some good handloads with match bullets. That meat eater from Federal premium use some other match primers in very close powder charges vs their cheap line. Plus load with barns ttsx or lrx I think ? For a mile the 50bmg or 338 Lapa whode be my go to
I shouldn't complain when I just bought a few boxes of Herters 308 for $23/box $CAD at Bass Pro. That and some Power Shok last week for $25/box. Less shooters up here. I'm buying now so I can weather a potential price increase due to US exports. I prefer to buy American ammo.
On any given topic that I watch on RUclips. I may watch 7 or 8 channels. And Who Tee Who is one of the Top ones I recommend for firearms. The only thing I find misspoken by our fine Southern Gentleman host. Is the use of the word "cheap." Some things in life may be less expensive than others. But the hobby of firearms. Is certainly not cheap! I have 3 grandkids. In recent years, I have bought some firearms to teach them the fine art and science of firearms. I typically buy a box of ammo per gun, per grandchild. And then my daughter and son-in-law expect to be included too! At current prices. A full day at Disneyland. Is less expensive, than a few hours at the range! So the use of the word cheap. Could be construed as some variation of sarcasm?

I am rooting for you! Thanks for sharing! Stay healthy!
Great video.Im looking forward to the one mile video. Its damn time for the price of ammo to come down.Enough is enough.
I always shoot Remington Core Loct Reduced Recoil out of my Mossberg 4x4! It’s pretty accurate.
Nice
Thanks brother I also like the budget guns great video Be Safe and God Bless 👍🎅
Thanks for watching Frank
Try putting 1 or 2 25lbs bags of shot on the tray of the lead sled it will help hold the sled still . I use mine that way , it works great .
Thanks Mike
Absolutely nothing wrong with budget guns. Love the Ruger American Ranch rifles
Me too!
I got the same rifle. Only cambered in 6.5 Creedmoor.
Nice rifle man, good video!
Thanks for watching!
your gonna have to start reloading to get the groups you want .factory loads will not shoot all the same in different rifles. keep giving all the zooms!
Hi man. Really interesting test, waiting for second part on 1000 yards. Thank you from Moscow (Russia).
What scope mount is that and/or what should I get to mount a Vortex crossfire II 4-12 x something on me Compass 30-06?
Thanks in advance.
Shewee
Congrats on 170k subs
Thanks Chris!
I have one of those bore sights it worked amazing for a long time but after a while you have to adjust it with those tiny Allen screws but mine is probably 10 years old at this point but definitely worth the money I wouldn't ever have to shoot any rounds it would always be dead on
Im digging the TC compass.
Me too
Why are you continually changing the BASE adjustments? It's the same as changing the scope adjustments to the rifle. You'd get better results faster, and with less ammo if you'd leave them alone after bore sighting to the target.
Nice group with just four shots
👍
Yup that app is pretty cool
Knew you would figure it out. Awesome shooting WTW, once you figured it out
Thanks Jason
For the more expensive calibers, you should invest in a laser boresiter
Literally just saw the part where you have one
😝😝😝
Like your no bullshit approach. Just some off the shelf ammo and go have fun.
Appreciate you watching Freddy
The only thing I don’t like about those rifles are the bolt handle and the front of the stock. Had one in .243 took a hog out with it. For a budget hunting rifle all I can say it’s pretty good.
I like it especially for the money
Yep can’t beat it for the money.
mine seems to like 180 grain hornaday sst
Looks good! Have a great day!!!
Thanks for watching Timothy!
For a mile the 50bmg or 338 Lapa whode be my go to
Anybody can shoot a mile with 50 or 338. Too easy
Awesome
How far below did you keep the laser at ten yards? Getting ready to bore sight mine in and don’t want to waste ammo! Thanks in advance
2 inches off
@@WHOTEEWHO thank you!
Looks good, I think that rifle is gonna suprise you
I like it
Great gun for the money. I have a TC Venture in .308. Sub moa with Trophy Copper which I can’t buy anywhere right now...bummer
I agree.
Is it free floating barrel
Appreciate you watching
Same issue on my 30.06
