  • Professional walleye fishing guide, Brad Hawthorne explains how Minn Kota Drift Mode has revolutionized walleye fishing by providing precise boat control while drifting walleye hot spots. Traditional drifting methods relied heavily on wind conditions or current, leaving anglers at the will of Mother Nature. However, with Drift Mode, anglers can effortlessly stay in the strike zone longer by dialing in their drift direction, exact speed over water, and much more at the push of a button.

    after you drift through the fish/reef do you pull up and repeat that same drift or can you reverse your drift back thru the same path?

    How’s it work for vertical jigging in a river and matching current?

      It works pretty good on the Columbia. River runs pretty fast where I am at. Matching the current for say Steelhead drifting is pretty nice. I prefer to run a little slower than the river, and it does that ok, although the boat follows where the boat follows. I was able to do it with the other versions, but this is easier. Where I like it the most is in back trolling, while using it and the kicker. Before I had to manually control the electric motor, now I can do it mostly hands off. Until traffic makes me change anyway. I use the Ulterra and the kicker with a TR1 together all the time.

    I just purchase a Minn Kota Ulterra in 2023. Can I download this drift mode to use it with my Ultra?

      Don't quote me on this, but I thought the Quest is the ulterra with Advanced GPS built in. Mine is a 2019 ish model, and I upgraded to the Advanced GPS for 500ish.

    I have a 2020 MK Ulterra with i-Pilot Link & HB Helix MDI G3 on bow & HB Helix MSI G2 at the helm. Can I download & use Drift Mode from my iPhone or graphs?

      No, you would need to install an advanced GPS head.

    • @falsedragon33
      @falsedragon33 14 дней назад +1

      Its 300ish with the head replacement, and 500ish with the remote.

      @Dmnazdaq haven't tried it. You would have to be recording an itrack (think that's the term) then go into drift mode, end the track at the end of your intended drift, then select the track and start at end point. Theoretically should work. Could also just record the track driving the boat without drift mode then go back and forth using the track with controlled speeds. Still new to it but I've done a fair amount of research. Keep watching videos.

    Could i use this feature to slow down the drift in a bigger river?

    • @falsedragon33
      @falsedragon33 14 дней назад

      I use it in the Columbia. Runs 4 or 5mph where I am at. I use it combination with the kicker motor for salmon fishing. I also use it for Steelhead fishing when I want to drift the bank at river speed or slightly slower. It takes a bit of adjustment, but is pretty handy. I could do it all with the previous versions, but this makes it a bit easier.

  • @tzerbs

    You can do this with any trolling motor and just a little manual effort.

      That is true, but things get busy in certain situations. On the Columbia I use a kicker to back troll and the ulterra to control my orientation. I have done it for years without it, but its a lot nicer with it. Especially when you have a Salmon on.

      Hi Brain, Thank you for contacting Minn Kota. The Drift Mode Feature is available on all of our new motors that have Advanced GPS capabilities. It is not available on models that were manufactured prior to 2023 (I-Pilot/I-Pilot Link). Thank you.
