Dropshot walleyes when you NEED to get bit

  • Dropshots aren't just for bass 👀 they're a simple and efficient way to keep your bait right in front of a walleye's face and know it's fishing in the strike zone the whole time. 🎯
    They work all year round, but I don't think there's a better way to catch finicky, late-summer walleyes (on outside weed-edges and the tops of hard-bottom humps) that may be turning down other presentations....
    Bonus points: If you’re fishing with your kids or someone who’s maybe not as experienced, this is the PERFECT way to help them catch a walleye without trolling. Few reasons being 1) the fish will basically set the hook on itself if they just start reeling, 2) don’t need to be a master at jigging cadences, and 3) the bait is always near bottom, but up off of it and in the strike zone.

    I upgraded my boat batteries to lithium this season and could NOT be more happy!
    I went with Amped Outdoors' 36V 100Ah trolling motor lithium battery system (which is two 36V 50Ah LiFePO4 batteries in parallel). I was able to shave off roughly 140 pounds 😳 by running those 2 lithiums vs 3 lead batteries, and of course get some amazing run times:
    ampedoutdoors.com/products/36...
    Which also freed up an extra battery slot in my boat, so I was able to plug in this 100Ah beast (only weighs about 24-ish lbs) to exclusively run all of my electronics - fer dayzzzz 🔋 - instead of running them off of my cranking battery:

      Either of you guys have go-to plastics for drop shotting walleye? Caught a few here and there fishing for smallmouth but I'd like to target them with plastics to try to weed out some of the smaller fish.

    You talk about "mid depth" as 10-20 feet. But for us here on Lake Roosevelt, the depths are down to 150 feet. Will dropshoting work on that? Typically, we need about 1 ounce to hit bottom or the current just wipes it away.

    Brett , what’s your favorite crawfish imitation for drop shot ?

    • @TargetWalleye
      @TargetWalleye  2 месяца назад

      Here’s the different craw baits that I seem to use the most when dropshotting…
      The first is the 3.5” Craw D’oeuvere by PowerTeam Lures. To be completely honest I have no idea why it works so well because IMO it does not look real and it has hardly any action at all besides a very slow/subtle glide (especially when you nose-hook it). But they eat it, so I keep on using it haha!
      www.powerteamlures.com/3-5-craw-doeuvre-1/
      The second one that I haven’t ever mentioned in public (but you took the time to reach out, so I might as well drop another nugget!) is called the Tackle HD Hi Def Craw…most commonly the smaller 3” size tho I will play around with that BIG 3.75” from time to time. They are pretty dang expensive, but the most realistic craw profile I have ever seen for super clear water and picky fish. I usually save them for tournaments lol.
      www.tacklewarehouse.com/Tackle_HD_Hi_Def_Craw/descpage-THDC.html
      Few other options I use regularly on a dropshot…
      Berkley PowerBait MaxScent Lil Trooper Crawfish Soft Bait:
      alnk.to/aANsxSz
      Z-Man TRD CrawZ:
      alnk.to/eOLE5sP
      Savage Gear 4D Craw:

      I hope this helps!

    Use removable 1/4 oz. split shot weights. They work good. They are CHEAP, pull off easily when they get snagged, which is VERY seldom. They are quick to replace. Using Expensive weights ? Why ???

    • @TargetWalleye
      @TargetWalleye  10 месяцев назад +9

      I truly feel that I have even better "feel" of what's going on down there with tungsten thx to it being roughly 1.7x more dense than lead. It's also more compact so it gets down that much faster. And if you tie them on, you just don't ever lose any of them unless you're fishing around lots of rocks, which if it's really snaggy I'll switch to lead. There are times in big wind where I'm using up to a 3/4-oz weight...that's a lot of split-shots lol. Do you NEED tungsten to catch fish? Absolutely not! But it's super fish-sexxy works extremely well.

  • @TheRick2130
    @TheRick2130 10 месяцев назад

    I always have one tied, its a modified drop shot.. instead of weight on the bottom, ive use jig instead... its a 1 - 2 punch, either they like eating from the bottom or 1-2ft up.. the down side is when you get stuck, you loose half of the rig

    • @TargetWalleye

      @@jasonguest1441 I always fill my spools up with enough junky "backing" line to only put 100 yards or so of braid on top. But also the Tatulas have the option to get a shallow spool or a deep spool, I have the shallow one.
