Thanks Tyler....I just started using the drop shot at the end of last season and looking forward to using it this upcoming fishing season. This was super helpful!
That's some great stuff Tyler. I have just recently added a permanent drop shot set-up to my arsenal and can't imagine not having one every time I go out. However, I'm definitely guilty of your first topic. I cast out and twitch that bait all the way back to the boat. I have had pretty good success with that....but what if smoothing that bait back to boat gets me more? I will definitely be trying that out the next time I'm on the water. Thanks! And also, thanks for jumping right into your topics. As someone who watches a lot of RUclips fishing videos, it drives me crazy when people spend the first 5 minutes of a 10 minute video telling people to subscribe and hit the like button, yadda, yadda, yadda. So I appreciate it when others jump right in like you're doing.
Drop shotting hair jigs for smallies is an underrated technique. You can also replace the dropshot weight with a finesse jig.
What hair jigs? Please

Great point!!
I fish a Ned Rig below my drop shot….that set up produces!!
I've caught nice catfish on a dropshot I used bluegill chunks for bait.
I remember I was using a Ned rig instead of a drop shot weight, I missed one on the drop shot bait then next cast I caught him on the Ned rig below it
Thanks for the information. A few illustrations of the tackle you are describing would be helpful for some of us newbie’s.
Thanks for the tips and techniques. Thanks for taking time making the videos!
Dude,
You hit this on 100% everything you touched on is key to being efficient at drop shot fishing. I do seminars on this and these are key points that I feature, especially for beginners. I learned from Aaron before he left us, Ike and Shaw. Great info Sir👍
Thanks Tyler! Most of the fishing I do is in shallow water so I go weightless because I love a very slow fall but in deeper water adding a split shot or 2 for a drop shot is a must. I only give a soft pop to get it off the bottom to slow fall again.
Great video I have been on the page as you are . I fish Lake Erie alot always seems to work me . I like the Robo worm 4 in morning dawn
I learned a lot.Thank you for the video
Thanks for all your great information 👍 you are always on top .
Great tips, thank you very much !
Hi Tyler...I drop shot Roboworm MM the majority of the time and dead sticking it. It gets bit all the time. Great show
Excellent video (Again). Took 12 place a while back on the wolf River up north. All of my fish were caught on a drop shot robo worm. I am curious, what size hook do you use with your robo worms?
I am new in finesse fishing and drop shot that would be fantastic if you could show how you actually rig these up thanks
Thx great tip. I know I’m way too restless when drop shot fishing. Need some therapy for sure before I nail this art of fishing 😂
Good info as always. I’m definitely guilty of over working it
😂😂 I didn't stop until somebody said that lure looks like it's having an epileptic attack
Do you recommend a shorter or longer leader from bait to weight in the Winter to keep the bait closer to the bottom? Talking 40 degree water. Thanks
Tyler info it would be helpful if you showed the baits . Thanks for sharing
Good tips Tyler, last Thursday I caught a 4.7 lb. largemouth on a 4" MMIII Roboworm. Like you, I stick with Roboworms and also use the Berkeley Flatworm quite a bit.
nice one buddy
Love it when you refer to Lake Champlain. That’s because I live right on its New York shoreline.
Thank you. Keep them coming.
Awesome information thank you
On pressured waters, last year I experimented with drop shotting home made flies. Worked well!
I started using a drop shot when I just started out fishing from shore for smallies. Man you are right. Being patient with and just letting sit there feeling the bottom is the only way to fish it. BYW Berkeley max scent minnow is the best by far drop shot ever. Best place to find em is at Walmart.
Great info in the shorter videos style! 👌👍
Thanks for the tips! I'm guilty of all 3 of those...
So was i
For me I've found that a 3/16oz cylindrical weight on 6lb test fluoro works best with most baits
I’m a big fan of 1/4 3/16 takes a long time to get into the target zone unless fishing shallow
@@josephtrozera6964lol think 1/16th is going to speed you up that quick bub?
Depends where you are and if tgere is current
I used a drop shot many times camping but can’t seem to figure out when to use them around my home lakes.
Great tips thank you
Man this so true. I fished Champlain with my dad for the first time ever and I was using 1/8 oz tear shape tungsten drop shot weight fishing shallow rocky banks and it was to light so I switched to a 3/16 oz weight because we were fishing shallow but is was a pretty calm day just little bit of wind and boy did they start biting.
The Drop Shot is one of my favorites, the heaviest weight I use is 1/4 oz.
Drop shot with heavier weight can be advantageous when fish are aggressive and you want to get the bait down faster. Don’t remember the pro’s name but he was talking on the Smallmouth Crush podcast about how his power fishing with a drop shot worked and how he wanted to slam that bait to the bottom to trigger reaction bites, and he would only leave it there for a few seconds before retrieving and repeating. Most bites were on the initial drop. Anyway the point is there are exceptions to these “rules”
Great advice!!!
Dude, you’re cranking out content like a madman! 👊
Nothin like good old regurgitated, basic, common, industry norm info.
"I see a lot of guys..." "I get a Lotta questions about"... no. No you don't. You watch a lot of RUclips videos and repeat what you hear. Even telling stories that other guys have told and re branding them as your own.
Love putting a 2.5" STH tube on a drop shot. Not sure what made me think to do it, but damn does it work.
Great video thank you for this.
When I started dropshotting was when I marked fish in 35'+. I didn't want a heavy weight to crash to the bottom, so I used...3/16. And I use 3/16 for everything from 10' to 40'. It can take 30-40 seconds to reach bottom so it wouldn't work in current.
If you ever come up to fish LSC this year, hit me up! If you have room on your boat I’ll go with ya.
Thanx Tyler. You didn't get on the flat worm ban wagon? They sure seem to like it. Any experience with other straight tail worms. The Zoom finesse has put a few bass inthe boat and the trick worm has caught some largemouth and big smallies.
That was an April fools joke man!
On the highland east Tennessee reservoirs where I live, no matter how light I go, I stay hung up.
Been using the roboworms for about a year and the margarita mutilator is by far the best one ive caught bass, bluegill and even catfish off it
6:43 in relation to the roboworm color reference the MW3 is a phenomenal color up north here in idaho, also I really like the PB&j
Love PB&J Zman Ned rig
Great video dude really enjoyed it
The largemouth bass in my neighborhood ponds love drop shot flukes
2nd time drop shotting today. And what do I do? Yep lots of action and no bites. The first time was in 2016 and I thought screw it. Going to keep trying your way. Thanks
Just started drop shotting. Wish I had started sooner. Margarita mutilator is 🔥🔥🔥
I keep a drop shot tied up all year round. Dedicated dobyns fury med light finesse rod always has a drop shot tied on. I agree 100% that too much action is a no-no. I usually throw it right up near grass lines or near cover where fish are being picky and let it sit. Once I learned to be patient and barely move that thing at all, I changed my dropshot game. Robo worms, some tini jackal plastics, etc.. work so so well.
Get a better rod and you'll love it. I bought a Xtacy 752 for d/s.... The sensitivity is insane
I remember a day fishing with one of my buddies fairly early spring it wasn't a drop shot but a shaky head. All I was doing was sitting in the back of the boat feet up on the motor holding the pole literally dragging it with no action. I'm sure I out fished him that day 5 to 1.
Solid tip and awesome vid
Purple is my best soft plastic color for any style fishing
The fall rate sometimes has to do with getting bit when it's tough.
I never go above 1/4oz for drop shot and use 2.5" minnow baits or 4-5" straight worms.
So, if you're fishing in the Winter when the bass want less action on a bait, would it be better to use a heavier weight? You said a heavier weight will limit the baits action. Thanks
Could be, if you are also not imparting much movement. If you are moving/dragging the bait a lot, that’s going to deter winter fish more than micro movements permitted by lighter weight.
freaking love dropshot.... wont go anywhere without them
Dropshot is definitely my go to #1 confidence technique.
i always fish a roboworm on my drop shots but i notice as it gets colder and i wanna dead stick it, the action isn’t great it just kind of hangs. do you let it sink to the bottom on slack line? or is this not a problem?
Yes I let it sink on a slack line
I know you're taking about bass bud. I dropshot for walleye. I always catch them on the jigging drop.
Was co-angling a tournament this last weekend and my boater smokkkked me in the morning when we were both throwing similar baits on our dropshots. I started paying attention to what he was doing different and noticed he would just let it sit way longer than I ever would and he'd get bit during those long pauses over and over again. As soon as I slowed down I filled my bag and started culling. Honestly this is probably the same across a lot of techniques.
Try a wacky rigged ribbed blue 4 " french fry. Thank you Tyler!
We only use 7 gram ones in uk never seen anyone use heavy weights to drop shots, its a finesse technique supposed to be lightweight and tactical
Tyler if you want a seriously killer dropshot bait and I mean better than anything I've seen from any major bait co. You need to check out paul krews custom baits, specifically his 3.5 deopshot minnow absolutely killer hand pour
M.M.III roboworm is 🔥with a 3/16oz. Teardrop weight
My fave drop shot bait was Jackall’s Cross Tail Shad. I noticed that Sail wasn’t carrying it this year in Canada … anyone know if they’ve been discontinued? It’s a shame if so, because it would be like crack to smallies!
Cross tail shad is a great little bait. I don’t think the discontinued them
@@TylerBergerFishing I’ll check bass pro!
My biggest smallmouth is also 6lbs also from St Clair on a drop shot.
Great video
Definitely a technique I need to just tie on and leave everything else at home and dial it in and get some confidence.
I did this last year and ended up almost never skunking because of it. Seriously the Margarita Mutilator robo worm is awesome, followed by the June bug chartreuse for me. Also caught some of my biggest fish on it.
the professor has spoken...we take notes.
Just learning plastics/ drop shot.. would help as there are so many brands, stiles etc….. SUGGESTING… when you speak of a plastic, have one close by to show while speaking.. I can see and hear, better what you talking about… or guess insert a picture of the product thank you
Roboworm
the drop shot is the most versatile presentation
I've never thrown a drop shot. I have the hooks, weights and plastic for it. I just haven't tried it yet.
Witch hook you use for a 5 inch worm?
Roboworm rebarb hook. Medium wire
Size
Another thing is , don’t set the hook hard if not at all ! Sometimes just reeling it in sets it good enough! Plus tie a palomar knot . The new fancy not that makes the hook stick straight out is one of the weakest knots in fishing!
That’s no joke that knot gargles balls
The bait looks like it’s getting electric shock treatment 😂
Don't sleep on using a heavy dropshot weight... on purpose.
Number of times he said drop shot? More than anyone has ever said in this amount of time lol good stuff man ill try lessening the action to see how it goes.
There is a time and a place for a heavier drop shot weight.
I am a dropshot addict. Straight tail 4.5” and 6.0” Roboworms are the juice. Top three are Aaron’s Pro Shad, SXE Shad, Margarita Mutilator. My other is a Z-man Long Shotz Goby Bryant.
I use the ZMan Trick Shotz in that color.
Do you use these for largemouth or smallmouth…? Thanks
@@pgm1970 anything that will bite but mostly spots and largemouth. Most of the places I fish don’t have many smallmouth or nine at all.
Roboworms for sure.
That margarita roboworm is 🔥🔥🔥
Yessir
1/4 is the key size. In cali that isn't even a question🤙
I sure don't feel like I have saved a lot on tackle this last month or two with all the sales ha ha
Ditto-I just keep telling the wife, “honey, I don’t wanna lose money on this!” She rolls her eyes lol
Right?! Just imagine if he had bought it all with NO sale!@@jerodjmoore
I don’t move my DS idk why people put action. No need let the current do the work for you.
Not have one on the deck. Lol
Ike says about the same, but a very wise old guy showed me that small mouth love pink.
I have caught many 5 to 8 pound bass on a drop shot. One year I caught a 5 pounder every day out with a drop shot.
Love to drop shot me sniper worms. They quit making them but I still got quite a few.
If I'm gonna be watching something on drop shotting, it's gonna be Aaron Martens
100%
#1 - Guilty.
I throw a dropshot over most techniques because I have a ridiculous amount of confidence in it.
Do you think drop shotting will work on Walleye?
Yes it does
Big time works on em
Caught about 30 walleye on a drop shot at lake Oneida
I’d rather go to the DMV then use a drop shot.😂
And why was that important for us to know??
....and you feel you needed to tell us that, why????
@@jamesfabianski4923 dont be so insecure. because i can, so too bad.
@@jamesfabianski4923 because I can.
@@jamesfabianski4923 are you gonna be ok?
👍
Your bait links aren't working.
Stop hating on the drop shot it catches Bass when other lures aren’t working
How am I hating?
@@TylerBergerFishing Sorry not u these other dorks
The worst thing you can do with a drop shot, 1 fish a drop shot, 2 see number 1. I hate it !!!!
Hahahaha some people definitely feel that way but it’s such a good bait
Tyler, I just don't have the patience, to much ADHD, but love a jig and yer videos...@@TylerBergerFishing
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
In this video, I use clickbait / ragebait title to get stupid people to watch it.
Sooo long winded.. Sheesh 😮😅
Bro, give us something to look at. Instead of just talking….
I second this. thank you for the valuable input,.however the most of us are technical learners and need visual aids to retain the knowledge.
Lose some of the sales pitch. You would make a better video
