I fish around a lot of pads/stems. Therefore use braid more than anything. Curious how this setup would work using 30 40# braid?

I have caught a HUGE amount of bass last 4 years on chatterbaits Colors that work absolute best for me are First fishing in March when water temp hits 40* is black/blue with sparkles and a fire craw color trailer Once water temp hits 50* on more bright than cloudy days and stays thier more often than not its white/chartreuse with a white ice trailer tip of tail diped in chartreuse die belly colored with a stripe of orange If more dark cloudy days its a bluegill color with a bluegill colored trailer same chartreuse and orange colors added or my black/blue chatterbait with a bluegill colored trailer again with chartreuse and orange colors added Late last year gave a new color a try that showed great promise called "spot remover" I will use more this year Yep thats it and I catch bass, pike and even waleye from March 1st till deer season starts October 1st

I see people Ice fishing in N.E. Ohio catching bass shallow, Myth busted. Another Myth I don't buy is changing colors when night fishing? Baitfish, bluegills and perch in the daytime are the same color at night. I believe a lot of these "Myths" are to catch more fishermen vs fish?

thats true but you usually have to cover more water and the fish are not as big, especially Guntersville bass. There's always a ton of 2 to heavy 2s up shallow. But the good meat and concentration of bigs are gonna be deeper on most days. i was out there last week and you could do no wrong with a jerkbait in the shallows where dying floaters were being pushed in by the wind.

Thanx Tyler. The only rod lenght change I've made in a long time is I throw 7'6"mh/f for open water chatterbaits. I used mod fast action 7ish chatterbait rods but that 7'6" covers more water and has the perfect bend. I never loose bass on it and they take it good. If you have one laying around, just try it.

6’6” in my kayak for accuracy casting around specific targets, longer rod (8’) for top water to cover more water. 7’4” for cranks/chatterbaits

The Ark Cobb series has been my most impressive bang for buck rods so far. I'm really impressed with those. I'd like to check out Cashion at some point but i don't know how good their lower priced rods are.

I mostly wade narrow creeks in Middle TN, my go to rod is a 5'6 UL

I really want like a 9.5 ft light fast to absolutely launch spinner baits into the middle of the lake.

I have a 7'5" deep cranking rod and launch lures that far lol. It's because I have a quality reel and the lures are much heavier than normal crank baits. I also feel a shorter rod loads and sets the hook faster than a long rod that has more tip in them like long cranking rods lol smh.

I bank fish almost exclusively... I'm very interested in a couple longer rods, my thinking being that if I could get another 35-40 feet , I'd be getting to water out of reach of the other anglers.

Daiwa Tatula is what my son and I use for reels. Various different Tatula reels and they leave nothing to be desired. Just got him a 2024 Tatula 100 for $115 on amazon ($200 most places). Paired it with the Tatula XT rod. $225 all in and it performs well above its price point. Some would say that's not budget but relatively speaking, its not expensive. Not for the smoothness and sensitivity it provides.

I’m 5’8” and my favorite rods are 7’2” and 7’5”. It’s all personal preference.

6'6" is my shortest. 7' medium heavey, and a 7'3" heavy.

100% I'm only 5'9" the shortest rod I have is a 6'6" but it's a moderate, medium and has really nice flex to it.

7’-7’3” is my “go to “ rod length . I don’t have any shorter than 7’ . Got a few over 7’9” for bigger baits and flipping.

Ugly Stik spl1100, not the garbage gx2 they make today, 6'6 to 7'0 for me......have a 7 footer that is over 40 years old and works fine for me........if i see a spl1100 in any store i buy them......when downrigging for salmon, rods and reels are a total different game......

I have rod and reel combinations of all different lengths and actions. I am 5’8” tall. The best “feeling and casting” rods I have are 6’ 10” to 7” in length. I have never understood the anglers thinking behind requiring giant long bombing casts over 40 yards (120 foot). Maybe a long cast for a deep crank bait or carolina rig is needed. I bet most all my casts for spinner baits, jigs and square bills are way less than 25 yards per cast.
