I fish, primarily from a kayak. I spend most of my time sitting directly on the water surface. Short rods for me are key. 7’-7’4” is all I have. Mostly fishing shallow. Flipping an 8’ foot rod is not very practical. Mostly shorter casts for me, as I can put myself in just about any position I need to be. Accuracy and stealth presentation is my goal. Great video, thank you.
Thanx Tyler. The only rod lenght change I've made in a long time is I throw 7'6"mh/f for open water chatterbaits. I used mod fast action 7ish chatterbait rods but that 7'6" covers more water and has the perfect bend. I never loose bass on it and they take it good. If you have one laying around, just try it.
Nice info Tyler! I'm mainly using 6'6" due floating around in a kayak. My 7'2" with 12lb fluorocarbon does work great with jigs in grass at East Harbor
@MrFishingOhio Only lures I can get them to bite is Blue Rock custom tackle 1099XL black and blue jigs and Yamamoto senko black and neon blue tail wacky. I know other anglers do good with KVD 1.5 square bill red by the rocks. Saw a bank angler nailed a 4lber with swimbaits due the bass was busting shads on top. I don't know, I just love it up there
@MrFishingOhio Thank you for the pointers. I suck with spinnerbaits ,but I know they catch fish. I caught probably one decent bass on them....and that was a small private pond 😆 threw a spinnerbait because it was windy.
I bank fish almost exclusively... I'm very interested in a couple longer rods, my thinking being that if I could get another 35-40 feet , I'd be getting to water out of reach of the other anglers.
Great video Tyler 💯. So weird I was and been debating on this particular subject because I been looking to get a new lineup of rods for this upcoming season. Pulled the trigger today and went with all 7’ rods besides my jerkbait rod ,In all actions and different power rods. I fish rivers a lot from a kayak/waders/bank fits me and I have multiple other longer and shorter but just feel 7’ fits me well. I will definitely use longer or shorter rods but for the most part 7’ is my sweet spot. Keep the videos coming bud 🤙🏽🎣
I have rod and reel combinations of all different lengths and actions. I am 5’8” tall. The best “feeling and casting” rods I have are 6’ 10” to 7” in length. I have never understood the anglers thinking behind requiring giant long bombing casts over 40 yards (120 foot). Maybe a long cast for a deep crank bait or carolina rig is needed. I bet most all my casts for spinner baits, jigs and square bills are way less than 25 yards per cast.
I have a 7'5" deep cranking rod and launch lures that far lol. It's because I have a quality reel and the lures are much heavier than normal crank baits. I also feel a shorter rod loads and sets the hook faster than a long rod that has more tip in them like long cranking rods lol smh.
Ugly Stik spl1100, not the garbage gx2 they make today, 6'6 to 7'0 for me......have a 7 footer that is over 40 years old and works fine for me........if i see a spl1100 in any store i buy them......when downrigging for salmon, rods and reels are a total different game......

I’ve never used anything over 7’ definitely going to try 7.3 for deep cranking I’m only 5.4”

6’6” in my kayak for accuracy casting around specific targets, longer rod (8’) for top water to cover more water. 7’4” for cranks/chatterbaits

7”2 is deadly at the harbors: about all I use there

@@lowlifeanglera green spinnerbait works from April until summer, then I switch to a shad color the rest of the year.

This is the video I’ve been needing for years. 10/10
Ironic this video was shot in a bedroom😂
Hotel room probably at a sponsor meeting or something
Awesome video!! Very useful information. Thanks for sharing!!! 🤠👍🏻
I started fishing with a 5’6”” pistol grip back in the 70s😅
I still have that rod.lol😅
I had a few of the short pistol grip shimano rods. then when I finally went to a 6’ rod i thought it was going to be the longest one I would ever buy.
I bank fish almost exclusively... I'm very interested in a couple longer rods, my thinking being that if I could get another 35-40 feet , I'd be getting to water out of reach of the other anglers.

I plan running shorter rods this year. I was impressed how 610-4c dobyns rod worked for my height. I’m 6’ tall. Perfect for skipping.

Why not fast far with a Crankbait or spinner bait or any moving bait like that, the farther the better in open water
@ I do cast as far as possible on ledges with my big deep diving cranks, but most my casting is short range and target oriented in dingy water.
Same.💯
I wish I had known this earlier today. I'd have used my 7 footer to bomb out far and deep. Thanks for the info!
I’m like you bro! Every time I make a cast,,it’s like whatever!!!! lol thanks for the tips.
I dont want to talk about rod length with your bed unmade. LOL
I'm 6'2 and bank fish..6'6 mh I love.
100% I'm only 5'9" the shortest rod I have is a 6'6" but it's a moderate, medium and has really nice flex to it.
I mostly wade narrow creeks in Middle TN, my go to rod is a 5'6 UL
I'm 5'7 and I absolutely hate casting a 7ft rod, I think 6'6 is the max I can feel comfortable with.
I really want like a 9.5 ft light fast to absolutely launch spinner baits into the middle of the lake.
I have two I use 72 medium heavy and I also have two 7 ft medium heavy rods
I’m 5’8” and my favorite rods are 7’2” and 7’5”. It’s all personal preference.
I have a 7'5" deep cranking rod and launch lures that far lol. It's because I have a quality reel and the lures are much heavier than normal crank baits.

6'6" is my shortest. 7' medium heavey, and a 7'3" heavy.
Hey Tyler will you have your new shorts there at the expo??
Are we really doin rod length from the bedroom? , you a bad man Tyler...
I’m under 7” all Day if I can. Thanks for the video.
The most impressive thing about this video is you kept a straight face the whole time!
🤣
This is the info we need! Has anyone tried the Abu Garcia max pro combo from bass pro? It has good reviews. Tactical bassin likes the max pro reel
All my rods are 6'6"

How about that you have the bests length of rod in the thumbnail!
Must be cold in Ohio… your shooting in your bed room 😂😂😂
