Been fishing 50 years, 56 now... so I'm considered "Old School" This has worked great the last few years. Fish fast moving baits Always watching sidescan If no bites or sidescaned fish.... move after 15 minutes. Return to an area if fish are caught fast... then fish medium/slow. Rotate through the better areas because bite windows do exist. I use to fish local/regional derbys 25 years ago. Just fun fish today.... but fish like I'm practicing. Map study and Google Earth Pro is my Winter past time. Always enjoy your vids, thanks for your time.
Tyler, one thing I’m trying to do is force myself to give a spot/lure/presentation a chance before scrapping it. We all struggle with the whole “when to stay and when to go” thing…so I’m setting a timer on my phone..if I think this is a good area, I’m going to give it a solid hour-and I may say I’m going to fish a crankbait for the first 30 minutes, and a Texas rig the next 30. My problem is I get too fixed on fishing my favorite lures, really to fault. I need to be more versatile.
Great follow up to ffs and you charts break down of finding fish. I bielieve navionics charts (now own by Garmin) is my best investment to break down a lake to fish worth every penny. Not only for navigation but to find fish before going. For me it beats the investment in ffs but am sure they would work well together. Because i can only afford one charts is my choice to put me on fish. Can always get back to my hot spots on all my lakes.Yes live discussion would be very cool.
We fish 3 different clubs in our area, team format. We generally prefish to find a pattern in an area of a body of water, but try to have "the spot on the spot" to start our tourney day. However some of our tourneys have come from patterns that have developed due to conditions changing that are completely different from what we have found during prefish.
At age 70 there is no fast fishing anymore, it’s all for fun. That said I’ve always fished to my strengths. Cranking rock then going back with a shaky head.
Love the topic, listened to every word. Have the same wonders. I can give you a couple of different experiences I've had in my club tournaments. Our regular season is 3 hour evening tournaments. I often practice the week of and try to find where I'm getting the bites. I've found that I try to do the same thing you mention when practicing...find areas. The tournaments I have done best in, I've picked certain areas apart. Like through a couple hundred yard stretch go back and do it again and repeat until the time runs out. That said I've had polarizing opposites in the last two end of the year two day tournaments. Which leads me to wonder and hind site the heck out of them. In both tournaments I spent 3 days practicing. The first year, practice wasn't great. Did figure out a pattern but was not on big fish by any means. Day one of that tournament I find a couple decent size fish in an area. Picking that area apart and I find "the cast" which has me in first place going into day two. First thing in the morning, head back to the cast and clean up again. This time within an hour of launching. I fish the rest of the 8 hour day looking for one big bite and never catch another fish. I expanded that cast through the whole area and never caught another fish. Took second in the tourney. This last years big end of the year tournament was quite the opposite. I had found several areas with big tournament sized fish. Each practice day catching a four lber. That's a big fish for Michigan. Had all of these areas marked and had thought for sure the tournament was a lock. Although, I missed a ton of opportunities and there were fish on my spots, day one was horrible with around 9lbs weighed in. Now I'm rambling, I guess in the first one I should have had a backup area or pattern in case. In the second one I had plenty of backup areas and plans and none of them worked. What's the answer? Keep putting out the content I love the videos. If you read all of this, check out my "classic" videos and let me know what you would have done different.
I think this is the most discussed topic with both tournament guys and meat hounds. I like hearing opinions on this. Feels like I am talking to my buddies.
Don't think there is a right or wrong answer but my outcome has become more consistent after I fish a area and catch 2+ fish later on go back and fish spot again I'm a big believer in fish setting back up at different times of the day as always appreciate the tips and the rambling 🤣 merry Christmas
This is a great topic. I had so many tournaments that at the end I told to myself that I should have stayed at that area for the rest of the day. At the same time I had a lot of tournaments that I fished as a rider and my boater caught a lot of fish staying in just 100 yards of shore going back and forth
I would love if you did a live video. I watch Monsterbass live and its always fun. You have a great following and you do a great job explaining things. I think a live would have a great turn out
Would like a live, would be very interesting. I am not a tournament angler, that being said, after an area gives up something, i milk it using varying strategies. Slow or fast methods, but decide when it's time to move on rather quickly if that makes sense. Take what I've learned from that area to the next.
I fish a small lake/big pond, and Its a little more work coming back but I fish the cattails while the wind blows me down the bank. I probably fish a stretch about 500ft long, then Fish the other side coming back. I call it run and gun fishing probably doesn't work in larger lakes though
Depends on time of year and the bite. Spring and fall im looking for schools until I run into them. Literally every single day of fishing is different. That’s what makes it so amazing and frustrating. I have never done the same exact thing from one day to the next. I definitely have noticed a need to slow down with how much pressure there is now days. Technology and everyone having the same lures has really changed fishing everywhere. It’s not like it used to be. That’s for sure
OK, this is kinda how I look at it. I agree with everything you’re saying, but speaking in terms of tournaments in Ohio well it kind of sucks so I think covering water is always better, but unfortunately, our lakes are so small as you know …that if you cover water it won’t be long and you will be into “used” water so normally if I can’t one cover water I’ll at least slow down a little to milk that spot. It might only be your fresh water you have all day. I also did the same in Florida when I lived there for four years down there there is a ton of dead water and everything looks the same but if you catch one, you better slow down and flip that area. Just my take on it ! Thanks for awesome videos your doing great!!
Thanx Tyler. I have all the answers for you. THERES NO HARD RULES. Your brain is like a computer and has input data thrown at it while fishing. Stuff like is there bait fish around, are bass busting, is there wind blowing in, is there still shade, is it a definded area (point, drop off hard bottom, current), past experience of the area, seasonally appropriate. Take in all the input and spit out a answer. It's called educated guess. If that doesn't work for you, reach into your left pocket, pull out a quarter and flip it. Good luck buddy!

There’s a lot to this thought. Be a great discussion topic

The only fast fishing I ever did was trying to get into the next hole ahead of my cousin when we used to walk the creek.

Thanks Tyler great info 👍🏻
oh heck yeah! do a live! maybe check with darren wendell or aggressively Average Anglers maybe they could give ya some tips on a live

Always good info. It would be helpful if you would use maps.
If it is a 2 day tourney I avoid picking an area apart on day 1 if I feel it holds more potential. But will do it on day 2.
loved this video. it's not always about structures. this one is my favorite. realistic and humane.
i have a question Tyler. Is your mbti, ENFP?
I would love if you did a live video. I watch Monsterbass live and its always fun. You have a great following and you do a great job explaining things. I think a live would have a great turn out

I'm in a kayak so I can't really do "fast" fishing. I'm forced to pick apart an area because I can't run down the lake and hit several spots.
trolling motor jon boat. I relate.
Same here my problem is I don’t change my lure often enough. I’ve tried to get out of that habit late this year tho.
I fish a small lake/big pond, and Its a little more work coming back but I fish the cattails while the wind blows me down the bank. I probably fish a stretch about 500ft long, then Fish the other side coming back. I call it run and gun fishing probably doesn't work in larger lakes though
Even harder for me since I fish from a float tube.
changing lures has helped me tie knots faster. Also made me buy a few more rods and reels lol small boat owner

My best fishing days have always come from fishing super slow.
Take us out on the water and show us how it’s done.

The age old question! Should I stay or should I go?
Been fishing for 15 years and still struggle with this! 😂
I think the difference is the time spent. They fish way more than us. Time management
Google maps pro is a fisherman's best friend
