Do Smoke Grenades Have A Place In THE FINALS?

- I haven't seen many people talk about the smoke grenades in THE FINALS. So I decided to change that with this video essay. I had some fun in this one trying to look for my style. If you like the 3D animated blocky look, let me know. I think its a little unfortunate that The Finals doesn't really have many high effort content creators that talk about balance. But I think there's a space for high effort, low quantity content about the finals. Let me know if you agree down below.
The Lit Class loadout I show off later in the video is nuts btw. The LH1 shuts down people that are standing still and can't see cause of the smoke grenade. I doubt I'm gonna be starting any subclass names that people actually use. But it would be nice to see the lit class shine, even if it doesn't keep that title.

This loadout is now a little outdated, instead of having the proximity mines, the light class has access to the sonar grenade and the tracking dart in the new season. Doesn't change a whole lot, just different recon utility to see through smokes.
How would you change this class for the new season?
I'm personally going to be swapping out the proximity sensor for the sonar grenade. The tracking dart may be viable if used with the thermal vision, but you'd have to sacrifice the pyro grenade. @@Flipendo64
@@gallantryharder I tried thermal vision and I don't like how there seems to be a range it stops working at. If I'm using a gadget slot just to see then I feel like I should be able to see people that are miles away
yeah its not my favorite, alot of people here seem to love it though, more power to them.@@Flipendo64

You can actually defend gas from fire by throwing smoke on the gas.
A good way to counter something like the flamethrower when defending.
I've seen that a bunch since posting the video and I'm a little sad I didn't talk about its defensive capabilities more. On top of protecting gas, you can also protect goo from being lit on fire.

5:31 well this segment aged well. Really great video, a smoke strat I’ve seen is to run sniper smoke and thermal vision so they can smoke in a corner and use thermal to aggressively snipe in places that usually wouldn’t be safe to snipe in
So far my favorite Finals content creator.
An interesting detail about smokes is that it stops the name and health bar of you (and enemies!) from popping up, which can make target acquisition harder for your enemies (and you!)

I also learned the other day that goo grenade plus smoke is AWESOME because when people put my goo on fire I can save my goo with smokes 😂 people are reccomending to do the same with Smoke and poison idk why I haven't thought of that but it's so obvious

Any video about tactical smoke catches my eye and this was a fun watch. Still not tried The Finals but looks dope AF! Thrown smokes are fun for cover game but personal preference is to use a smoke grenade launcher for actual kills. 😂 Direct hit Smoke kills were second to none for the SMoKe Lord! I never play light, but the few times I do it’s always using the LH1 so this build I’m disappointed I didn’t think of, pretty base, useful for both yourself and allies. So I’ll do my best to INTENTIONALLY play light and try this build out
My fav subclass is Medium with shield, zip, bounce and def. Really makes you feel like Batman

i play light and i main smoke grenades with thermal vision. It takes some time to setup, but being able to see enemies through thick smoke with them having no clue where i am can be ridiculously op, it makes even 3v1s possible. It is so powerful im surprised to say that ive only ever seen one other person run it. Its also absolutely game changing in terms of stealing cashouts.

You can also use smoke to protect gas on your cash out.
Smoke, Gas, and fire work like rock paper scissors
As a smoke main, I use theme as a nice positional tool or even as a revive tool. It’s rare for me to ever die in the smoke due to placement
The first season I used thermal vision smoke and stun gun, it’s so damn fun, just hard to tell where gas is unless your right next to it or in it
Lol, this was a good vid. When I was playing, I randomly wanted to try a different loadout because I had just been trying a little bit of everything at that point. So i went for silenced pistol, smokes and thermal. Which I ended up using for probably half of my playtime so far, I wanna try new weapons and stuff but I'm so stubborn about switch off

Also if you throw a smoke grenade in a gas cloud you can't clear the gas with fire until the smoke is gone

I think embarks wanted to make the fact that pyro gas and smoke cancel eachother out like rock paper scissors. However there’s no reason to pack them as grenades when u can just fine canisters or use the variety of shields and movement abilities

The problem with the smoke for me is that it tends to just be completely see-through most of the time, not really doing much of anything. If they could fix that to be more consistent I could see it being more viable but I just don't see it at the moment. Good video though, keep it up!

Quick Tip: For the dagger, you can quick melee after backstabbing a heavy and it'll kill em outright, no need to wait for the backstab animation to finish.

This is good to know but imma stick to grabbing the canisters. Nades aren’t redundant but you can just find everyone of them on the map with the downside being you’re vulnerable. I’m definitely picking up the smoke canister more now doe!
Now with more recon abilities on the light class i might try this one out
Best actual smoke loadout is Camo+Lh1+THERMAL VISION+smokes and the other one was the motion sensor but it got moved

Smoke grenades are definitely still useful for blocking sight lines in THE FINALS except you have to think a little outside the box with them.
A lot of Light's weaponry excels in close range combat. Smokes allow you to break up lines of sight in open spaces to feel a little more cramped. In tight spaces, you can still use smokes to make the room feel even smaller - just think of all the times smoke has been dropped in the middle of the room, making it hard for anyone to do anything. Smokes are also extremely good for disengaging by placing the smoke between you/your allies and enemies since the concealment allows you to sprint pretty much in the open to get away.
Smoking off choke points seems like it's not a prevalent use-case, but it's more useful than you might think. Sure, there is no vision penalty for pushing through a smoke like in CS and the TTK isn't fast enough to make pushing into the unknown a big problem, but it's plenty useful for isolating attackers as they push in. On the same vein as smoking to disengage, smokes between enemies can allow you to make it difficult for opponents to assist each other in a fight. Valorant and CSGO don't see this being too useful because mini-map refrag makes it possible to trade out your friend, but THE FINALS lacks a mini-map.
Smokes are also good for blocking power positions as you advance, giving them some offensive properties as well. They can also be effective mitigation versus a flame thrower, preventing bonus tick damage!
Also keep an eye out for smoke canisters around the map. Lets get litty!

i used to never use smokes bc of the exact reason you mentioned; gas is just "better" but the new Smoking Guns event kinda forced me to try them out (using both gas and fire nades is kinda redundant, and glitch nades im not good at hitting) and so so many times it helped me steal a cashout it's not even funny at this point. Most underrated utility
Also combining it with gas creates unclearable gas, since smoke prevents fires from forming and you can only really clear gas with fire

Thermal optics with smoke is pretty good. The problem is that it's hard to tell where/when the smoke ends.

I've been running dash/dagger/breach/smoke/goo.
Breach pairs with throwables, breaks stairs for defence. Smoke + goo is disorienting then suddenly they cant see where they are when they hit a wall that wasn't there before, and extra coverage for stealing cashout.

thermal vision is better than motion as you can just smoke yourself and open thermal vision and that makes it so that you can see and shoot the enemies but they cant see you
