Dave's "fondness" for this precious woman was, and continues to be, shared by millions of people.
So glad to see Ms. Garr's passing is being marked by heartfelt condolences by people who knew and worked with her. Hope her family is comforted by all these acknowledgments.
I don't usually get this upset when someone I don't know personally passes away. But losing Teri hit me differently. She was genuinely beautiful inside and out, and her humor filled with her quirky remarks always made her so endearing. Every time I saw her on a talk show or in a movie, I found myself falling in love with her charm all over again. She was truly adorable. It's comforting to know she's in a better place now. Teri, I hope I get to meet you on the other side someday!
impossible to not love this woman!! These shows were great!! RIP Teri!!
Agreed
Teri Garr is SO charming, intelligent, fun, wonderfully goofy, unpredictable, has no agenda & it seems nothing impresses her! She defines the term ditzy blonde! It's no wonder she made countless appearances on Letterman! Teri's always been a treasure & exceptionally gifted comic performer. And a very good chance you've seen one of her films as well!
She brought home the bacon in Mr. Mom. Still maintained funny and sweet and strong.
Garr & Letterman of the best "unknown" comedy teams of all time!!! Truly!
Adorably quirky, witty and lovely. Her banter with Dave is captivating.
Not to forget, Scott, Teri's a hot boxa rocks. And what's with her character rip-off wannabe by Anniston on the 'way short of the mark' attempted SEINFELD copy called "Friends"?
Teri has a free-spirited way and a brightness in her that few of us are able to show
RIP to Teri Garr, absolutely beautiful and humble woman and a great actress! You will be missed!
Not great on the level of Meryl Streep but Teri could play bitch, sweet very good.
she did not complain about t he MS, she was stoic about that and grateful. What a good person.
Truly one of the most beautiful smiles. Anytime I saw her on tv I paused and watched
I loved every one of her guest spots. She was beautiful and charming and will be missed.
Terri Garr has always been a very special actress. Just lovable.
One of my top ten favorite human beings on the planet....been crushing on her since the 70's. God Bless her.
Incredible job putting these clips together. Your decision to keep those title cards was inspired. The charm of the NBC show is captured in those little moments AND the band is so much better than I remember. God, I miss rock and roll.
Is Terri still alive?
@@tedremak8164 Yes she is. She's 76 with advanced MS.
So genuine. A beautiful person.
Thank you for this beautiful compilation!
Teri Garr is so wonderful. Can you imagine what it would have been like to be her friend? It would have been so much fun.
I believe Teri Garr was friends with Carrie Fisher and introduced her to her husband. Obviously, Carrie liked Teri a lot.
Tough as hell to be a gentleman, but a hell of a lot of fun!
I've subscribed before, and want to say a huge thank you to you , Don. What an amazing compilation! They are so fun together. Kudos.
Teri is so amazing.I would have lost my mind if I ever met her.
Teri was the best quest ever on a talk show!!! !! Wow!!!
bigbigjoel, no, that would be Patty Duke..
Extremely difficult to watch Teri back then and see her pain and suffering now. Such an injustice. I wish her well
What happened to her?
@@scottobrienadventure she has MS
@@randalltaylor3700 That's a shame.
she is absolutely adorable
These two together was always special.
R.I.P. Terri Thanks the memories we will miss you!
The September 14th, 1988 is my favorite part. Loved her in Mr. Mom and Young Frankenstein.
Teri had that voice. Totally unique
The night after the first interview with Terri was the very first time I saw an episode of Late Night w David Letterman. The Michael J Fox show. I was 7 years old. I was sick and was not going to school the next day. Up late with my parents watching Carson whom I had never seen. I loved Back to the Future and it was announced he was on on Late Night next. I begged the parents to let me watch it. Then and there, I became fixated with this odd show hosted by this funny, witty and odd man. For the next 28 years I barely missed a show. When I did I watched it the next day because I had taped it. I begged my family to get me my own tv set so I could watch it in my room. I adopted an old small abandoned set from my grandfather. The rest is history. Attended the show many times. Last time on my birthday. January 2015. Dave's last year. On Dave's last show, I left work early, took the subway down to the Ed Sullivan Theater and hung out outside for hours. I knew a huge part of my life was ending.
Thanks for sharing. So thankful for the opportunity to be able to relive, and sometimes see for the first time these great moments. My relationship with Dave is not as deep as yours but I loved the show. For me it was staying up late during summer vacation and watching that hooked me.
OMG. 7. I was 17. I was never allowed to stay up that late. I was sick. Stay in bed.
Soo so cool story! Thnx. 👌🏼.
Yeah, but now you have the Masked Singer..
Funny,witty,odd yep that's Dave in a nutshell
58:13 what an interesting moment. It's so obvious he really meant it. Not used to seeing moments like that.
Absolutely. And it's TRUE, she really could do anything and was always so natural in the way she could convince you she WAS that character. Truly a pleasure and not like so many of the phonies in typical Hollywood.

Watching through these in order, I have to say that the banter and chemistry between Teri and Dave just got better and better as time went on, and Teri got more and more irresistibly charming and beautiful. Teri & Dave remind me of the cute girl flirting with the nerdy guy in high school. 🙂
I saw a few of these interviews when they originally aired, but it's such a treat to see them again (and back to back) after all these years.
Long over due, love Teri Garr, thank you Don! 👍🏻
I first saw her on MASH a short part, but the delivery of her words with her personality caught my attention instantly.
She was on Star Trek in 1968. That's probably the earliest I saw her. And one of the first roles she had a named character.
The one from ‘88 where Dave says “Oh, like you don’t know what it’s like to have handcuffs on!” has been saved in my Favorites forever.
Poor Dave...and also, Poor all the rest of us men!. She was such a "real" fantasy woman! I bet David was bleeding internally, when she once said to him " I do not care what your fantasies are..." I once had a gal tell me bluntly to "keep your fantasies to yourself!", after I had simply told her she looked good. That was nearly 50 years ago now--but I obviously was hurt forever by such a cutting remark.
Thank you Don you are a dear as is she.
I'm a sensitive person, I can't be breaking the sound barrier.
She was so pretty and had a great personality.
"DON"T TOUCH ME", damn, she was so funny.
She was my celebrity crush for sure, so classy and beautiful and look no tattoos!
Tattoos are the most unattractive look on everyone
You hit the nail on the head about the tattoo issue. When I see women in video clips from the 1960s, 70s, and 80s, they seem so much more beautiful than young women today. I think that tattoos are a major reason.
No botox or implants either
I hate tattoos on a woman. They look like hell nowadays, especially the ones with freaky piercings all over their faces and mouths.
👍 She's beautiful, hilarious, intelligent & just adorable!
You know, and I think that I can speak for everyone, Teri Garr is the most beautiful and adorable woman of the 1980's. I'm not afraid to admit it... I'm in love with her.
53:14 I had to come back to this part, because I was reading an interview Teri Garr did with Roger Ebert shortly after this appearance where she talked about what she said here (in this clip It's cut, I'm guessing this didn't make it to TV?).
I recommend looking up that interview, It's interesting! Basically she said the musicians in the room next to her were smoking mad MJ, but I guess it vented into her room and filled it with smoke, so she was high off of second-hand smoke when she did this one -- and they were actually kind of upset at her for putting the other group of musicians on blast I guess.
Anyways, I'm guessing the musicians were the ones who performed right after Teri's segment, Al Chez, Bruce Keppler, and Toni Childs.
I was at the April 8 show...Teri Garr was delightful! It was fun! However, I remember being disappointed that Michael J. Fox was going to be on the next night and I would not be able to attend the next day's taping. RIP Teri.
I keep coming back to watch these. I don;t know....
I've watched the whole collection about six times now. Weird.
@@scottbinns318 maybe we'll figure it out. I guess Dave already did. Ha
Gifted, gifted , gifted woman.
Absolutely adorable.
"Now is the time in the interview where I ask the guest 'is everything alright at home?' " :)
Check out 30:25. Could this be one of the original uses of “I know!” as a punchline?
It appeared on “Friends” all the time.
Teri Garr is so adorable.
Just love her!!! So funny and so talented as an actress, dancer. It's so sad what MS has done to her. 😞
They are like Cybil Shepherd and Bruce
Willis in Moonlighting. The tension!
Thanks Don
I've never seen Burns and Gracie but I've seen Letterman and Garr.
Burns and Allen
Now that Terri is not in the best health and Dave is retired, I wonder if they stay in touch?
I never noticed how many times he walked over and helped her to the chair...
Right?
she was just exquisite in the simplest sort of way.
Paul's choice of exit song is always sweet.
America's sweetheart.
She's like the original Lisa Kudrow.
But Teri had a certain connection or chemistry with her co-stars. In block busters, it was that passive supportive wife. But in movies that didn’t so well, she had great chemistry like with Gene Hackman and Richard Dreyfuss.
good call- very similar
Teri and Lisa, "cousins" to Diane Keaton. Teri was a terrific dancer in 60's movies; quite stunning.
Love her attitude. That sweet Mom-Face and mom body in her prime. What a woman!
Totally Lisa Kudrow in „The Comeback“ and „Friends“!
I'm reading Teri's book, Speedbumps. I recommend.
Oh wow, thanks for the tip-I’d love to. Off to the library…
She was great on this show. So beautiful, and it was obvious that Letterman had a huge crush on her.
He once blurted out, as he was introducing her--"I would marry this woman, if she would only have me!"
She is so charming. Thanks. I wish Dave was a little nicer but that’s the way it was.
RIP Beautiful lady. 😢
Did anyone else catch Willard Scott's piece on the teleprompter during Dave's little flower stealing bit? Comedy genius.
Oh O.K. I was wondering who's hair it was. 😆
She was an absolute doll! God I miss her so, so much!
Never realized, until I watched this for a few minutes, how much Teri and Lisa Kudrow remind me of one another. A lot. Looks wise and the sound of their voice.
eric register Teri was funnier.
She played Phoebe's(Lisa's) Mum in Friends. The resemblance in uncanny!
@@DavidBerlinguette and far more attractive.
I don’t know why I keep smiling when she shows up.
Because Lions have big hearts.
What a wonderful woman.
He adored her. I mean which actress today no matter how much they- try to look sexy- is as sexy as TG.
1:14:12 The most authentic reaction i’ve ever seen. Teri was very concerned that Dave was about to break the 4th wall. The best sexual tension on TV. and it’s no Kayfab like Julia Roberts.
Nothing to watch look up David and Terri ,the undeniable chemistry, their own show !
I LOVE TERI GARR!!
Take note, Gen x's and Y'x and Z's for that matter, for THIS IS a GROWNUP WOMAN WITH CLASS. Boy, I miss the good 'ol days.
Ohhhh okay I figured out the attraction I think . I mean other than the obvious usual Hollywood looks . She plays ditsy for fun but is clearly intelligent and sharp .
You'd be amazed at how many really smart women do that.
Dave was sweet on her
Yeah he was
Did they ever go out. They act like they a 14 year olds flirty with each other in school.
I Fall In Love everytime I see her.
"Oh, yeah, like you don't know what it's like to have handcuffs on." One of the greatest Letterman comebacks ever.
"I've got a lot of personal problems." Hilarious
"We'll look for that on an airplane." Classic.
No one funnier than Late Night Dave.
Conan was just as funny, but a different style.
Hi Don. This is priceless. Was curious about the edit at 53:24 from her Sept 18, 1988 appearance. Do you know any of the story behind this? I'm assuming someone from the band was smoking pot next to her dressing room. At least she seemed to imply it.
No idea, sorry.
Some serious editing was done to protect the innocent.
I've got a hunch it was Toni Childs.
Banter at its best….
Oh my God Terry Garr is the most beautiful actress I’ve ever known
She Was nominated for A Best Supporting Oscar for Tootsie,In 1983
The best female guest for Letterman.
Just hilarious!
Thanks for all your hard work, Don! At 23:43, when Teri refers to what Dave had written on the other side of that paper--and he quickly changes the subject--could this be the famous "I hate myself" note that he supposedly scrawled during a commercial break (alluded to in "The Late Shift" movie, which changed the guest to Sandra Bernhard, as well as in Jason Zinoman's book)? It would make sense given the context.
A lot to unpack here. First, thanks! Second, possibly (the timing of the passed note). But, and I just checked, Jason doesn't refer to either the note or the purported message. And third -- and here I'm going by memory but will have to search for the source -- the note never said that, or it was taken completely out of context. I think it was first reported in a Spy magazine article, but the accuracy (or context) got garbled. From there it took on mythical status, but that may be what it was from the start -- a myth.
Again, I'll have to find out where I learned about that, so don't take my word at face value. But from what I recall, what he actually wrote wasn't what's since spread as fact.
Also, I just checked -- this was the show where Viewer Mail went off the rails due to the first week of the NABET strike, uploaded here: ruclips.net/video/ZcJNYjt2994/видео.html
You'll see that Dave was pretty frustrated with all of the screwups, and that may have played a part in the note.
I just came back to this comment because Dave talks about this in a Tom Snyder interview (ruclips.net/video/Elve8iilD_c/видео.htmlsi=SAF_4JwZEFqeLwTY). He said he wrote, "I wish I was dead," as a way of expressing that he felt like a horse's ass for using cheap innuendo for a laugh.
It's at 1:23:40 of the video.
A woman with the type of wonderful personality that any man would fall in love with.
Those are the dangerous ones.
Such a babe. Once I saw Young Frankenstein, she’s been my absolute favorite.
They broke the sound barrier and there was nothing I could do about it.
I loved her in Young Frankenstein, I thought it was from the eighties (1974
Lovely ❤️
Gotta be a 'Chuck' Grodin collection coming up in 2020
Gotta stop asking for requests right after I’ve spent so much time preparing this 8 1/2-hour compilation.
Teri Garr is a national treasure.
Do you have to go somewhere? Yes. Where? I Dunno.
R.I.P. 😢 TERI GARR
I feel fortunate that i can go to RUclips and see ALL of the Garr Letterman flirtfests. She is special. Genuinely special.
Man. I forgot how special she was.
She's still alive. But is in end stages of MS. Don't try to find pictures. I saw one unwillingly and it is very sad.
@@melaniewood3506 Well...she made it to 79, even though she was having to fight that horrible disease since she was diagnosed, in her late 30s. My sister, now 70, was diagnosed at 35...for the last five years or so...she is rather zombie-like, needs a lot of care, cannot walk anymore, etc. Teri seemed pretty with it, mentally, until she died a few months ago. People are affected differently, as time goes by.
@curbozerboomer1773 She needed constant care for the last few years. So incorrect. I am very sorry about your sister. I can't imagine how that is for you. My heart goes out to you. 💖✝️☮️
One fabulous babe?????? My good Dave so pleased you matured and gave that wonderful woman the respect she deserves.
Dave's right, Garr is ONE FABULOUS BABE!!🥰
A sweet, lovely lady! Gorgeous!
I can see why they put Teri Garr on Friends as Phoebe's mother. Casting genius. Both are super quirky and super cute.
11:26 - Good one, Dave! :)
April 8, 1987, I was in the audience. To think I was disappointed because Michael J. Fox was the guest the next day.
" One Fabulous Babe"
Teri Garr was on Star Trek , with Mister Gary Seven, and Captain Kirk and Mister Spock, in New York City, Season 3
