Just finished the next-to-the-last clip/appearance above.
I've watched many Letterman appearances on RUclips (love the Teri Garr ones) and have NEVER been this angry before. He is so stinkin' rude to Bonnie with his constant interrupting and interjections that he thinks prove how quick and witty he is .... I now understand why Cher thought he'd been described as an anus by previous guests.
It was so bad you could see Bonnie's anger and temperature rising to dangerous levels, like she was seriously contemplating walking out on him.
I don't enjoy criticizing Letterman like this as I've watched hundreds of hours of his shows over the years. But Bonnie Hunt deserved far better treatment than this, she is so funny and talented ....
There! I just had to get that off my chest.

Seems to me that Bonnie Hunt should have become a bigger "star". Supremely talented, easy on the eyes, but maybe ahead of her time. She straddled the line between stand-up and sketch comedy in an era when neither was really booming, and they never found her quite the right sitcom to best showcase her, let alone make her a household name. Comedy people know her, at least back then they did, but I fear she's largely forgotten now, especially among the younger folk.

Question: Almost every segment as Bonnie walks on the set, Letterman meets her, bends over the back of her head and talks to her for maybe 3 or 4 seconds before seating her at her chair and then sitting in his own seat.
All this while the audience applauds and cheers.
Then later, when it's time to take a commercial break, he does the same thing all over again; only this time they remain seated as the camera pulls back and then rolls into the commercial.
So my question is, why does he do this every time, and what is he saying to Bonnie? He also did this when Teri Garr made her appearances on the show.
What does he say to them? Inquiring minds want to know ...

I would like to add that I added my comment early on, at the first clip of them together, and just now saw where he had her stand up next to him and declare that they would make such a handsome couple! I saw it first! Also, she's calling her husband John now, later on in this video - what happened to Murph?!

Someone explain to me, please, the joke at 11:05 where she says "that's how it was written in the script." Everyone seems to get that line but me...

This only confirms the belief I have always had that Lettermen was the ultimate interviewer while Leno could do the best stand up.

The late Christopher Hitchens said that with rare exceptions women aren't funny. I know it sounds terribly sexist and his comments caused a big uproar, but he had an interesting point about them not needing to be funny; it was the guy's job to develop a sense of humour in order to woo a beautiful woman. Anyway, Bonnie Hunt is an exception. She's laugh-out-loud funny and sort of reminds me of Amy Sedaris. It sounds like Bonnie grew up in a family environment similar to Amy. Another great find, Don Giller. Thank you.

Hitchens could be an idiot at times. This was one of them.

@@dongiller Maybe true that. When you come to think of it, there aren't many men who are funny. But to your point, identifying funny people is subjective.
